4.3 0-60 in 1950? Damn, that's even impressive by today's standards!
Thats faster than a corvette C5
Yes thats insane
I am on my 6th car and never had one that did 0-60 in under 10 seconds. Okay, fair enough, family and stuff. I may get a faster one when I retire. Unless I die before then.
would have been much faster with more grip
as fast as the current bmw m340i xdrive

Actually, yes. Cars are cooler than music in my opinion.
Rocco Siffredi has
Dinuka Wimalagunasekara he still does. And he probably gets paid a lot more now which makes it even better.
2:47 "Michael Schumacher is dead"
Well that didnt age well
thought he said gay
Not dead, just a vegetable
Renatus i thought he died. Thanks
He said "michael scumacher is gay"
He's gay
It's strange he did this and then bought a biturbo in the grand tour 😂
I think is kind look different when he bought grand tour show
But this is a Biturbo, that was a Biturbo S. Makes all the difference.

@@pitqx a lot less set up that m than top gear? You high bro?
@@fermitupoupon1754 but im still pretty confident he wouldn't hate it now no matter which version.
I remember watching this when it aired, I was saving up to buy my first car and I almost cried when he crushed the bi turbo.
Doctor Dollars What ended up being your first car?
2001 Volkswagen Jetta. I had it for a whole two and a half weeks until I stalled it at a traffic light that had just turned green and I got rear ended by some lady who was texting
+Doctor Dollars
What a shame. I REALLY wish that the cell phone companies shut down all text based services completely, i.e SMS, IM, e-mail on mobile devices! In California about 50% of the drivers that i see on the road have their eyes looking down between their legs where they hide their phones while texting and driving, instead of looking on the road and therefore the way those people drive - looks like they are drunk!!! And not a single CHP officer around to pull those dangerous drivers over!
Тольяттинец I live in Alaska and it's actually a $10,000 fine and 1 year in prison for texting and driving and a felony if you injure someone. I don't know if she was actually charged with that because the police dismissed me soon after the report was filed but I had crazy whiplash later that night. She was going like 15 mph in a 1995 Ford Explorer
+Doctor Dollars We need more dashcams mate.
The MC12 to me is what the Enzo shouldve looked like. Put Ferrari badges on it, redesign the rear wing, paint it red, and you have a proper successor to the F50
F60 then
But we got LaFerrari for that
Now that you mention it, after all these years I can actually see the F50 lineage in the MC12.
Nah the Enzo looks how it should imo.
Lol it looks shit next to the enzo. Its quick but it aint a beauti
You know what you're actually right, I see the common design language now, the MC12 does look like someone evolved an F50 and the process went wrong somehow.
The edited adult film reference actually came from a solo talk show that Clarkson did back in the 1990s, where he describes his stay in a 2-star hotel and what came up on television in such hotels.
This one: ruclips.net/video/hRbkAezmW78/видео.html
"its like making a hardcore adult film then editing it to play it in british hotels" xDD
That was funny and I'm a woman.
epistte what does that have to do with anything
I hope everyone here knows the video he was referring to.

Nobody on earth should be mourning the Biturbo, a car that has to be disassembled to change the oil is an affront to god.
They what!?
They engineered an oil pan without a plug?
No way.
Finally, someone who isint a boomer
I almost bought one of those once, fortunately it caught fire on the test drive.
That’s painfully stupid engineering

I still prefer the MC12 over the current cars that Maserati makes nowadays. I don't care about other people's opinions who think it's ugly. I think it's a work of art.
+FastCarsNoRules220 Not sure why you've posted if you don't care about other people's opinions?
It is a work of art!
I prefer my works of art with a rear window that can help with my pararrel parking and a reasonable price and reliability.
The MC12 is probably my favorite car
@@greekieshion4501 exactly. Either full road car or full race car. Not an abomination that is none of them

Wow, that 250F was one of the most amazing-sounding machines it's ever been my privilege to hear. Damn.
Exactly what I was thinking. It was an absolute blessing to hear. Made me hard all the way through the rev range...
Biturbo? More like *BYE-TURBO*
That 60s Maserati Ghibli I is a true gem. One of the greatest exotic classic GT cars of that era, in my opinion.
Why didn't upload BBC/Topgear in 1080p HD?
Because it was an old episode
@@2cv693 with their budget they probably could. Wouldn't be surprised if the source footage is in 1080p
They didn’t have the technology back then to have HD, even video games were only 30 FPS
@Essentialist yes doon also ran in 4k if i remember correctly.
@ArduinoBen its more about how it's filmed, TV Shows generally were recorded to tape, whereas movies use film, you can upscale film to 4k+ (Hence the Wham 'last christmas' 4k remaster) but tape cant be upscaled like film can.
Its amazing how the fastest cars since this video was made, could only go round the track in 1.18.4, compared today's modern cars which can make it round in 1.15.1.
God the sound of those old 6 cylinders is insane
I wish I had one of those old-timey F1 cars. They look amazing
There's a Biturbo for sale near me! Should I save up for- oh.
Sam Kaplan i hope you did not buy it you will go bankrupt and good luck finding spare parts
it´s possibly the worst thing to spend money on. Like the utterly worst.
Park it in heated garage, and put a big TV on the hood. The seats are nice for home theater.
@Chuck Taylor Sacrilege,- you low life brute!
I'd I where you, I would buy this car. I live in Brazil and here, per exemplar, are 34 Saab 9000 CD Biturbo and I want to buy it.
Holy shit that F1 straight six sounds GODLY!

Seems like the 250 is the great grandfather of the Ariel Atom in terms of design and speed. Look how it warps Clarkson's face
I love his analogy to the hardcore adult film.
I have seen every single episode of TopGear at least 3 times. I still laugh my ass off every time. Whoever writes this stuff is a genius. Amazing show is all I can say.
the 250f makes one of the most beautiful noises ive ever heard.
FYI , there is only 50 unit of MC12 across the world. I personally seen one in selling in Malaysia and one in Australia owned by a private collector
My favourite Too Gear episode ever because of the coupe challenge and this interview.
I loved watching Topgear back then.
Many older cars were problematic because of the materials used. The Citroen SM and Maserati Biturbo for instance needed timing belts replaced at 50,000 km because the belt tended to wear and tear at this mileage. Failure to do so would result in irreversible engine damage. These days running a Citroen SM or Maserati Biturbo, with modern components, is "easy". Like I said, my brother has replaced several components in his Biturbo with modern replacements. Car is solid and fun to drive.
Finally, TG got the sound right on youtube
That 250F is truly a gorgeous piece of machinery
Just to inform all of you ,italian haters, Biturbo was the first car in the history with double turbocharging, so if it had some possible problems, it was quite normal. Also ,after some experimental cars (racing, shamal, karif) ,Maserati ended up in Ghibli II (the most powerful 2.0 L coupe for maaaany years, and possibly still today) and Quattroporte IV (making the family supercar project famous maaaany years before Mitsubishi Evo. And more powerful than many Evo's)
The handling matters more to an Evo than the power. And it's much better than most saloons
Evo would destory any TrashTurbo
I thought Lancia made the first biturbo...
The Biturbo will NEVER be faster than a Mitsubishi Evo it will and has NEVER make anything famous or successful and just because it had two turbos doesn't mean that the car was good
The MC12 to me is one of the most beautiful cars ever made...
My brother has one. Replaced all the original electrics and some engine components. Runs like a dream and has never let him down since. Over 170,000 km on last time I visited him. It's the best-looking Maserati to me, but I prefer the Shamal or Ghibli II.
They were playing The Mars VOLTA! 🤘
I came here to comment this

He´s driving a piece of history. Like a boss.

I think the mc12 has turned into a future classic. To me it’s like the Lamborghini countach, It only works as poster on your wall as a kid. (I personally like the look of it)
The best thing for me about these old cars is always how they sound, they just sound alive and soo much better than modern cars
That Schumacher joke hurts.
He said is gay, not dead...
@@alohaboa He said dead. Not that it matters since Schumacher isnt dead
The 250 f is dam gorgeous! Its such an amazing piece of art!
3:57 is that the Mars Volta’s Cassandra Gemini I hear there?
do you know the tune before that?
I think the 250f was more meant for Hammond, course he would have crashed it in the third corner.
I love how they make gorgeous extremely expensive cars appear flawed, every single one of them.
He out here borderline drifting masiratis
That 250F looks, goes and sounds amazing. It's my all time favourite F1 car. I was gutted when he crushed the Bi Turbo. It may not have been one of the most reliable cars ever made, but, it's still a cool, interesting and stylish car.
The same as my imagination of it. This was the first time I saw this guy, so there was no Clarkson Island in my mind before, but after there was, and it looks like living there really sucks - you know alcatraz?
I really wanted to see the part where Jeremy is 'trying' to get in the 250-f!
One of the best top gear videos there is.
I have to know the song at 1:03 to the part where he waves at us, I must hear this song to just imagine Jeremy driving any car where his face looks like that :D
Far too big, Far too ugly?
That's a fantastically beautifully attractive car and it's one of my favourite cars ever and it's Italian!!!
I love Maseratis, Ferraris and absolutely Alfa Romeos with Lambos to the mix!!!
The clock in the Biturbo is what you would use to time the tow truck to when he arrives to pick you up. 😀
Completely died at 6:05
AHAHAHAHA
I would like a re-shoot of the biturbo with clarson still in it when the bin drops.
thing about the biturbo, is that the company was cash strapped in the day. so they went from supercar and super gt territory to Porsche level sport/gt/saloons. but what they did was stick a really good engine behind not so good electronics and chassis but an amazing interior. the biturbo was a car you would point and shoot not something you would carry speed in the corners with. but early cars with all of the reliability issues was really as good as it could have been in those days. maserati was building cars in the traditional way in the early 80's and the 3rd gen quattroporte was still hand built. the biturbo was the first mass produced car the company ever produced and really was as good as it could been because of that. however by the late 80's the car vastly improved in all aspects and was actually a decent car, and in the 90's it became the car it should have been. biturbo owners love their cars because they aren't actually bad cars. problem is that they get handed down, then someone does a fix on a fix and no one knows what to actually do to fix a problem and the car ends up with a bad reputation. in the day the company was also tiny and its not like there were dealers around in every city to fix a car and the design was so complex for the time mechanics really didn't have a clue. same thing happened to jag in the 50's and 60's. in order to get the biturbo to run well and not cause problems would be to always run and use the car. never let it sit because thats how you get problems with any car, you also need to let a car like the biturbo warm up, owners in the day were these posh people who didn't know a thing about cars (those that did were not buying biturbos). they just drove cars like these from point a to point b, where as a car like this needs a stretch of the legs or else it will treat you in the same way, take care of the car and it will take care of you.
+Adam Othman Problem is, that it was a turbocharged non fuel injected engine for the first five or so years. The mixture was always off so it used tons of fuel and ran poorly. Adjust it for cruising and it leans out under load
Jo TUWE yeah but once they figured it out it was actually a pretty good car.... the problems were worked out and then it was doomed to it reputation
+Adam Othman dude the engine sucks its unreliable doesn't even make 200hp and if you wanted to do an aftermarket ecu good luck because its odd fire
Markos Simopoulos dude it was the 80's unless you had a rarri or a car of that type they'd be lucky to make 200 hp. unreliable at first but they worked it out..... its also a maserati so i dont see why it has to be reliable in the first place (ferraris dont) and why would you even try to ecu this car? im pretty sure these things came out before you could even do that....
my volvo of the same year made slightly less power and can be very easily modified to make much more and those engines run for ever. I'm just saying having worked on 3 biturbo engines all 3 had less than 20k on them they are junk they have nothing to offer. you have to adjust the valves every 10k miles and let me tell you how much of a bitch that is and you better not take off the timing belt off because there are no timing marks. also the timing belts are known to break, the alternator puts out less power than the electrical system draws. and it runs like crap because twin turbos and carbs don't belong together. yes efi existed back then. IMO you would be much better of swaping a honda v6 in and call it a day.
As collector of cars that MC 12 cost more than 3 millions now compare to Ferrari Enzo Arround 2.7 millions at current market. So it was good investment.

I like the mix of releasing both new and old clips. Keep up the good work Top Gear
it did it in 1:18.9 - Maserati MC12, 14th fastest car around the track as of me writing this.
6:45 I thought "oh no no, dooon't let a piano or whatever fall on it"
"Racing cars which have been converted for road use never really work. It's like making a hardcore adult film and then editing it so that it can be shown in british hotels. You just end up with a half hour close up of some bloke's sweaty face."
"Oh no! im spinning in a million pounds"
haahha clarkson
I've never learned so much about one my favorite car companies, thanx 🏁
Man,maserati's are awesome fun
Years laters in Gran Tour, he wanted to keep it even broken as it was in the episode.
Having been in the entertainment business, I understand a dramatic entrance but crushing that Bi Turbo was just wrong - what a british ass! I loved the Bi Turbo, in the 80's when my friends & rivals purchased BMW 320i - I set the high water mark when I rolled up with my Bi Turbo. I casually explain Neptune's tridents (mythology) were not crowns - that was 80's cool baby.... Pretty good for a kid from Harlem U.S.A.
I have to say about Maserati,...and I've a bud who has a Citroen SM (which have a Maserati powerplant)... They know how to make an engine sound AMAZING. That exhaust note is like a thousand tongues being rubbed on your fuzzy bits all at once.
In the end he says the MC12 didn't win his heart "just like the biturbo". Not going to drop a piano on it though, are you? 😛
Come on!! I was waiting for The Stig to drive!!
Over 100hp per litre in the 50s?! Jesus, chrysler can't even manage that today.
The Hellcat does it at 700 HP from a 6.2L.
@@bmstylee yeah and only got 400bhp from the 8 litre viper. 2 years later Mistubishi got the same BHP from the 2 litre Evo
destroying this maserati zagato is a sacrilege!!!....this wasn't necessary at all!!!!
See the amount of rust found on the bodywork 3:27 indicates the car was destined to be scraped. I'm sure Clarkson is a car lover but to maintain the whole car is simply illogical.

@@mellegerda They could easily save a lot of parts, anyway.
Yes, yes it was absolutely necessary.
@@s.sestric9929 I believe evey Biturbo should be crushed and then melted into molten metal and used to make the next Daewoo Matiz.
Even better, kill everybody who loves the Biturbo and everybody who owns one and gather all this cars haters so we can remove any knowledge about the Biturbo from books to videos.
And we will keep some Biturbo's to ourselves as stress toys and by that I mean piss, shit, ejaculate, smash, pour acid on and just spoil the remaining Biturbo's left (we will also be doing this with every Alfa Romeo Arna and Lancia Thema 8.32 ever made)
The 250 F looks like a high speed go-kart and I love it.
Michael Schumacher isn't dead. But he might as well be.
It still makes me sad to this day. :(
LMAO! I just imagined the guy who sold Jeremy that little car watching Top Gear and seeing his car beeing destroyed. xD
Imagine that the guy loved his car and was a bit sad about selling it, but thought that it would be no problem when he sold it to a professional guy like Jeremy...
Then he turns his TV on to see the newest Top Gear episode...xD
The parts of that biturbo are today worth in excess £10,000. The clock replacement is £600....
Wish I had this guy's job
Jeremy has lost it.The mc12 looks far better than an enzo
I think it looks suspiciously like an F50...
the racer is good but not the road car
Hot Dog Lost Fog it actually was a better car than the Enzo, but Ferrari didn’t accept it and they had to change it.
Clarkson always takes on the appearance of a St Bernard when he gets the wind in his face.
Love that 250F :)
this is one of the most outrageous cars in the world :)
someone below (MrMadpenguin) asked who want a maserati - i'd love to have the Gran Turismo S, the Quattroporte GTS and the MC12 at home.
Yes the MC12 really is highly unpractical, but i'd just park it in my garage, look at it everyday, and use it maybe once a year, which make u look special :)
Ah! The real topgear is back!
Dear God, Clarkson Island changes how I hear and see Clarkson speak.
this is the only video where I have heard the word "recalcitrant"
I had to search that up lol
it does look fenomenal!
im from america and i love this show
So can anybody tell me what's wrong with the Biturbo besides its looks the ugly eighties looks which I actually like
The interior is hideous and it was a RUST BUCKET. I did like it but I chose a 300zx turbo over the money pit Maserati.
+Stig Cruise There isn't enough room here, nor time, to devote to the shortcomings of this car.
+Stig Cruise they were very unreliable ... the engines and turbo's.
+Marijn Claesen Turbocharging a carbureted engine is just asking for trouble
3:27 look at the rust!
Well, good for your brother. Nice for him to have that car up and running. I simply just don´t like it at all, or how else could you explain Clarkson dropping that container on top of it? It wasn´t because he liked the car, now is it?
The legend continues, what top gear always should have been. And was with the trio, absolutely love it. Thank you. Excellent. ☺😎❤👍
Older Ferraris like the 250 GTO you mentioned ain't exactly cheap to run and maintain. Spare parts are expensive and they can be difficult to service in that the whole engine has to be removed in order to service the transmission for example. Things like that.. I'm not saying the Biturbo is perfect, but in the hands of a dedicated enthusiast who replaces the prone-to-cause-trouble-parts, the car can be a joy. I've driven his Biturbo on a few occasions and it's a joy. It's a car with character.
Now it's just another FIx It Again Tony.
Driving these Windshield and roofless cars seams absolutely terrifying.
Imagine what maserati could do with what they have now, they can bring back the biturbo name and make an entry level maserati
I'll always be a Top Gear fan, but Jeremy destroying a Maserati? That gets a thumbs down from me, every time.
+justsomeguytoyou If you look at the stills @3:28 this car has terminal rust, although it's possible to restore anything, the used value of a Bi Turbo doesn't make it economically viable so it was no great loss.
@@slacko1971 thanks for the info
Have you driven one? That thing, when it was new, was unreliable as fuck. Let alone an old one
BiTurbos suck
1:26 is amazing. "The face bending..."
Did he just call the MC 12 ugly? WTF?
very ugly
It's not ugly
Any old car can be problematic. A true car enthusiast doesn't worry about such trivial issues, especially if they're financially capable and willing to put money into restoring or keeping an older car running. The only costs my brother runs up with his Biturbo are fuel, oil and the occasional service costs. It's now quite reliable and a joy to drive. I myself want to own a Citroen SM sometime in the future. If people have no passion for cars then they should buy an appliance: a Toytota Corolla.
The Corolla didn't always used to be an appliance though, eg. the AE86 generation that at least was popular in the drifting scene for a while.
