Hi Matthew! The tulips and daffodils are beautiful. It was nice that your Dad was able to visit during the eclipse and help with the projects needing cement. We couldn't see the eclipse here, so enjoyed seeing what you saw. The rose trellis will be so beautiful with the roses you choose. I always enjoy listening to your thoughts. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you Matthew. Your garden is coming along very nicely. I just turned 70 years old and I’m starting a new garden bed, I don’t know if that was a very wise decision on my part do to ALL of the extremely hard and heavy work that I need to do or if I’ll ever be able to see it somewhat mature, but I keep plugging along. One day at a time, Lord willing I will be able to at least get it to a point where I can fully enjoy it before I meet my maker 🤞🏻. 🪻🌷💚🙃
It is lovely to see so many plants prospering when really you've had so little gardening time since you moved there. Your eyes are just lighting up more and more each time you show us what is happening. Thank you for sharing.
My Daffodils are done. Not 100% sure something didn't eat them. I love hearing when your Dad comes to visit and the projects that you two accomplish. Making good memories.
Beautiful spring blooms! As much as I want to play in the garden, I know this is dangerous since we’ve had frost as late as May 17. I’m fixing fencing, decking, garden paths, and filling pots with soil that were empty all winter. Thank you for taking us along! 😊
Please consider pool maintenance when planting. The previous owners of our home planted Crepe Myrtle trees on each corner of the pool. When the trees bloomed, the pool skimmer basket was constantly full. Even if you have a Polaris, many plants are not worth it around the pool. 🙂
There is a Haskap Berry family farm beside our backyard fence. I enjoy them fresh and frozen. They are a bit more sour than blueberries. Okanagan, B.C.
Matthew, could you show us the view from the deck every month or so - I want to imagine sitting there with my morning coffee; and I think you need to go more to the left with your new garden "hose" edging as it goes towards the front door... also, where did you get your rose trellis?.. thanks for another great video...
Ok! There's not much to show right now, but it may be fun to see the transformation as the hydrangea hedge goes in. The rose trellis was made by a local artisan - the same man who installed the fence around the home decades ago. I try to find unique, one of a kind items as often as I can.
Love the rose trellis! I’m so loving the spring colors. Not loving all the mulching that’s needed around here but it looks so nice when done. Looks like you are going to be very busy this year.
💕💗💕Matthew, you have already added so much beauty to your home, in such a short time. The rose trellis is spectacular!!! You really have an eye for landscaping! I can’t wait to see your garden beds, as the growing season progresses.🌱🌱🌱
Hi Mathew, I saw the eclipse on tv, as I'm over in the Southern hemisphere. It was an amazing experience for those seeing it for real as you did. Love your blueberry shrubs. They look very productive and are growing well in the position you have planted them. The white tulips are delightful, and grouping of daffodils look very natural. That rose is going to have a much better start having some breathing space between the wall and trellis. You have done a lot of the basics in preparation for a busy spring/ summer. Taking it all in your stride and enjoying it in the process. Enjoying seeing so much new growth since the last video.😊
Hello Matthew, Always look forward to another video to see what beautiful things you are up to. The Roses are going to e gorgeous on that trellis! Where did you find such a treasure? I am looking for something close to this for my 10 Clematis that are coming the end of this month. Thank you so much for sharing of your knowledge and your wonderful property.
Yum! If we moved, we'd take our haskaps (pronounced 'has- caps', 😉) with us too! Love the idea of an automatic watering system for the dogs - I had never heard of that!
Thanks for your videos! I actually had a question about your old home. Do you remember how far apart you spaced the arborvitae trees for your hydrangea hedge? I’m thinking about doing a similar design in my backyard and was curious what spacing you used. Thanks!
I live in the path of totality and it was so cloudy, the only thing I saw was that it got very dark momentarily. We couldn't see anything happening in the sky. We were disappointed.
For your pool garden- idk if you will be doing your own maintenance but you *might* want to wait a season to see how you use the pool/where you sit the most, where you need or want shade the most and where you need space and need to backflush etc before putting in gardens or structures. In particular making sure there is enough space around the pool to easily maneuver the long pole for the skimmer/net. Avoiding anything that sheds or sends out runners also. This is coming from someone who has a lot of pool landscaping regrets.
We had almost 2 entire months with the pool last year. I don't intend on planting many things directly around the pool as we don't want to deal with any foliage getting into the pool - most likely it will be annuals for now. This year is mostly going to be about finding good furniture and improving the looks of the space as it currently is. Maybe more to come next year. The current issue is the sidewalks are skinny so grass tends to get into the pool when being trimmed, which is something I want to resolve sooner with hardscape. Thank you for the tips!
Those roses should make a beautiful show on your house as you pull into the driveway. A bright pop of color on a home that is set back is a nice welcoming sight when pulling in the drive. I've decided I'm going to call you "The Hydrangea King", in honor all of them you are planting!! 😊
My 75 Topsy Turvy daffs had none with the apricot color. Laura from Garden Answer reviewed hers yesterday, and no apricot there either. I don’t know what could have affected the coloring.
Interesting! These were bulbs I picked up from a local clearance outlet. I don't know the exact blend, but I believe I still have the bags tucked somewhere that I was going to pull the names from. Most of the bulbs were originally from Brecks, so it could have likely been the Butterfly Daffodil Mixture.
It was hand designed by a local man who does fencing and other steel structures. Interestingly enough, it's the same man who installed the fence around the home decades ago.
Hi, Mathew . Nice garden tour for the month of April. U still have so much space to plant … ever consider planting some native plants… Thanks for the lovely videos.
I'll probably adjust it more in the future. There is already A LOT of space to fill, so I'm trying to manage being able to fill it up this year with plants without having a lot of empty space. It's a very big bed space.
Exactly. I'm trying to maintain yard space within the fence as well, and there is already an upper deck, so it's going to be a delicate balance in that area.

The trellis looks great! So fun to see everything waking up - thanks for taking us along!
Once the trellis has blooms up it will be nice to have that color in that area

It looks absolutely stunning Mathew 🪴🌷🪴

I love the trellis, just beautiful, can’t wait to see the orange roses 🌹

It’s going to be fun to watch you develop your wonderful new property over the next few years! So inspiring!
Thank you for sharing your design thought process 💚🌱
Love the driveway art, so sweet😉
The trellis beautiful. So glad your dad was able to help with all the concrete projects, much better with two people
It was very helpful to tackle the heavy projects with someone else. So thankful!

I like the rose trellis and I know it will be so lovely as the roses climb. It is interesting to hear your plans and see them come to fruition.
Thanks for the video and so glad you spent time with family. And also got some projects done. Win win. Happy Gardening.
Love to see the sidewalk chalk art.

I’m in the Okanagan as well, haskaps are so yummy! 😋
OMG looking beautiful Eclipse was way more than I could have ever imagined thx
Your trellis looks great! Good proportion to the house. I am just amazed at all the work you do!
Thanks for sharing!
Mathew already looking so much better the garden. Hardly can wait to see all. 🎉🎉🎉

@@TheSouthernersNorthernGarden it is definitely unique and one-of-a-kind!..
I do love the rose trellis, it’s gorgeous and it fits perfectly in that area, I can’t wait to see it full of roses. 🪻🌷💚🙃
Your gardens are looking so pretty! I love the trellis you installed!

I over wintered my ferns too. I kept them in a frost cloth bag most of the winter I still have green leaves on all three. I hope yours survive.
Your garden looks so nice. Good job .😊
Mathew,
Have you been to Burns Garden Center.
Its just off I-75 at the Middletown exit. It's a
Very nice garden center.
Love your videos❤
So lovely to watch this garden emerge!

I found the trellis from a local metal artisan who makes custom items. Very nice find!

Please share where you got that rosé arbor!! I love it!

Anybody else notice the birds disappeared during the eclipse😎

Where did you purchase your rose trellis from? Thanks

That's a kick-ass trellis! I like how well it is centered in that area.
It’s looking great, Matthew. Thanks for bringing us along!
Blessings!
I use a waterhose as well, Matthew. The garden is looking beautiful already. Only going to get better.
That rose trellis is gorgeous!!!
Hi, Mathew . Nice garden tour for the month of April. U still have so much space to plant … ever consider planting some native plants… Thanks for the lovely videos.
I will add some. This entire garden is brand new.
I’m
Anxious to see you start planting your annuals and perennials 🌸🌷
i think you need to make that first curve bigger before expanding the front bed so you can eliminate that straight section
I'll probably adjust it more in the future. There is already A LOT of space to fill, so I'm trying to manage being able to fill it up this year with plants without having a lot of empty space. It's a very big bed space.

One suggestion. Make your pool decking bigger. With chairs and people, the deck around can never be big enough.
Exactly. I'm trying to maintain yard space within the fence as well, and there is already an upper deck, so it's going to be a delicate balance in that area.
