I love watching new gardens come alive. I've watched Garden Answer since the start of her RUclips channel and the progress they have made is absolutely amazing. I know yours will be also.
Thank you! It’s a process, but I’m definitely going to try to keep it manageable to just myself. :) It’ll still be a lot of work, but I enjoy the process.
No need to apologize, Matthew! As a seasoned gardener, I understand how important it is to have the infrastructure right before moving to the next step. You accomplished a lot in one weekend! The garden will be great!
That was a lot of work!! Wow! The garden will be beautiful!
You have a beautiful sense of design and style. Your landscape is going to be phenomenal. 🤗👏👏
Real life gardening ... ONLY WAY for anyone to "learn". It NEVER is pretty to begin with BUT usually spectacular when completed. How exciting. 🎉
I giggled a little bit, when you said ,“ I don’t know if I’ll be able to move tomorrow” 😁. Gardening is hard work…That happened to me and that’s why I have a heating pad by my bedside. But it’s so satisfying when you see what you accomplished!
Hi Matthew! You really got a lot done. The front bed and the bed by the fence are looking good. I like the new plants you bought. The rose trellis by the house is so pretty, ad the posts for the roses look good. Thank you so much for sharing!
Can’t wait to see your flower beds come to fruition. Take care.😊
Hi, great job, Matthew. Even when you have to make things look worse before they are better, you know you are moving in the right direction 😊😊😊
Wow it's looking great. I know it's hard work, especially when you're doing it yourself, but you've done an amazing job. Yea for Mantis - I love mine. Oh, that rose trellis against the house is just gorgeous. Can't wait for the roses to claim it as their own. Take care, Matthew!
You’re making so much progress!
Wow you have made a lot of progress Matthew 💚💚
It’s so exciting, make me run out to my garden and start a project ❤
Love the Crabapples!
So much work! It's looking great and I love your vision. You've inspired me to stop procrastinating on my tasks 😅
Hey Matthew - just wanted to say your videos gave me a lot of inspiration when I was doing a lot of planting a few years ago. Since then I've been consuming less "gardening youtube" since everything is in the ground and growing. But the algorithm sent me your way, so I just wanted to say thanks and I hope you are doing well!
Another great video, I so enjoy watching all your projects!
OMG! This is so crazy all the progress you are making. This property will be gorgeous.
that was a lot of work getting those beds ready, thanks for sharing it all. i cant wait to see the hydrangeas go in
Establishing new gardens takes an incredible amount of work, as you demonstrated. Because I’m much older, I have to do sections each spring and fall. Then too life trumps garden planning. We had to make an emergency medical trip because a family member was in the ICU. Fortunately he is recovering, but some new plants are not, and I can’t find replacements. Developing a zen tranquility is hard though I’m trying.
Lots of progress, Matthew!
I’m the same Mathew 😂 panic stations rushing around all my garden centres 😅 absolutely stunning selection all my favourites 🥰
yay! What a massive amount of prep work you have done! As you say, it will be well worth it to have your fence free and clear into the future. 💜💙💚💫 Redbud is looking gorgeous. The roses will look fabulous on your arbour. The curves on your extended bed are so pleasing! So exciting for us all to be seeing you establish your new garden. Thanks for bringing us along. Love and Blessings.
The hydrangea hedge is going to be glorious!
Actually, wow! You got a LOT done. The new place is looking so good. Love your channel.
OMG the gooseneck loosestrife - at my old townhouse I bought a small $2 container of that, it was worse than planting aggressive mint. I spent HOURS digging it out of several beds. will NEVER buy that again lol. Watching the "it gets ugly before it looks good" is what I need.. I have 1/2 an acre with NOTHING but 3 mature spruce trees and half of the land is clay/rocks and weeds and I am discouraged. I will be doing the no dig method and try to get some beds going to feel like I am making SOME progress. Thank you for your videos
All that digging around that fence is a testiment to your youth! I'm aching just thinking about it!😂 Do you have a way to keep the grass from growing back under the fence line?
The other side is also going to be a flower bed of mixed shrubs and trees. So that won’t be a problem. :) I’ll start that process after I get all my other items planted in May.
😊New subscriber here. Can't wait til the growing season gets going completely so I can see everything come together
Welcome!
It's going to be beautiful 🤩! Blessings 💞🙏🏻
Beautiful 💐
Thinking about your Crimson Queen Acer you might like the Crimson King also gorgeous 🥰
Hello! Just found you. Thanks for the Great Garden Plants information. I have a shrub bay, but unfortunately, mine is called The Sick Bay, 😂
Matthew, since you like berries in floral arrangements, check out the Floralberry series of St. John's Wort (if you haven't already).
I had three of those at the last home. Interestingly, I’ve not seen them anywhere since I purchased them a couple years ago. I’ll have to keep my eye out.
I wonder if a box blade attachment would help you with your fence project a bit better than using the bucket. Love following along!
Amazing Matthew, what an undertaking. Your effort will pay off. I just hope you get the plants you have in the ground before you order or purchase more.😂❤😂
It’s a problem! 😂
Matthew, it is always encouraging to watch your videos. Just seeing all the projects you are doing, the new plants you are sharing, and your garden designing are so inspiring to me. Happy Gardening!
You must have energy for days, incredible job so far! Its already a beautiful property, just imagine it in a few years! 🎉❤
Wow. You have started what I just started here in Virginia. I love great looking grass but it's way overrated.....I love zones to show off perennial favorites......My son just laid forty stepping stones through the side yard.....now to plant in nearby areas....I just found your site and I am so happy to find you. Great ideas you offer..
H8!! What was the tree behind you at the start of the video????? Those flowers ❤❤❤❤❤
A crabapple
@@TheSouthernersNorthernGarden thank you. I want one!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
So busy. Such hard work prepping. Going to look fantastic no doubts!! 💕💕🎶🎶
The beds came out great! Cant wait to see when they are all planted!
Beautiful variegated dogwood.
I like the new curve at the front entrance. It draws you into the property nicely.
I always learn something from your channel as you are one of the only gardeners who research things before doing anything.
Since your property gets alot of wind, it might be worth planting a windbreaker hedge where needed.
Baby steps....
😊Jo

💙👍🏻💙
I love the arbor. Is going to look amazing. Do you have a source?
It was handmade locally.
What kind of fertilizer do you use on your boxwoods?
I’ve not been in a habit of fertilizing with any specific fertilizer. I’ve previously used HollyTone as I can find it cheaply around here and it naturally brings down the pH of our higher alkaline soil. But I’ve also sprayed them with a foliar fertilizer in the past too.
You have such an amazing vision. It’s all going to be beautiful. Do you have Japanese Beetles on your roses. I’m in KY and I’ve just given up on roses because of them. I don’t want to use harsh chemical because of the wildlife, Bees, etc.
I completely understand! I’m not sure what it’ll be like on this new property. At my last property I had a really bad case of them my first year gardening. Everyone locally did. Then I didn’t have any issues afterwards. We will see.
Any concern about planting the holly in alkaline soil? Thinking about purchasing a castle spire but the ph has me worried.
I haven't checked the soil yet at this new home for pH yet. It's on my very long to do list. But, I'll also probably heavily amend the soil with pine bark as well. Hopefully both will be happy.
🥀🌹🌷💐🦋🍄🤗💓💕💞
where do u get your contract paper for under mulch
Home Depot or Lowe’s
Thank you Matthew, your garden is looking great, you’ve gotten a lot of hard work done, congratulations! 🪻🌷💚🙃
What zone are you in ?
2 yrs ago Our boxwood had a huge area that died out. Way worse than yours. Dead areas looked just like yours and today they have recovered almost 100%.
I think that you got a lot done ! ! ! I hand dug edging today on a flower bed that hasn’t been edged before . Not too bad for a 70 year old. Of course I have several more spots that need edging but as you said baby steps. 🪻🌷💚🙃
What progress! Your hard work is paying off!
In regards to the Mantis tillers, I agree with your assessment of them. I have one that is probably 25 years old!
Goodness sakes! You have made a lot of progress! You have an exponentially bigger garden than you had at your previous house. Keep plugging away and you will complete project areas. What fun would gardening be if there was nothing to get done? It will be interesting to see how your new spaces fill in.
Oh my gosh what a lot of work that is! You need a hot tub for sore muscles ♥️ It will look spectacular when the hydrangeas are in and blooming !
You have such vision for your property. A lot of hard work goes into creating that vision as you have just shown. Excited to see your progress!
That’s a beautiful rose trellis . Really enjoy the progress . I garden on a balcony in containers and have a plant bay😄 so relatable.
Matthew, you had a busy and productive weekend!!
You are an inspiration. Thank you!
Love watching your garden come together. You may be sore, but it will be a happy sore knowing you achieved so much.
This will be beautiful when you’re done!! 🎉.. I love to see when you post a video, They are fun videos to watch. Hope your not to sore tomorrow.
