I shoot A LOT of 22LR and I can tell you that the Golden Bullet's even on a bench rest via a rifle have the biggest spread of any 22LR I've tested (and I've formally tested 20), so when you went out to distance it wasn't the pistol - it was your ammo. You actually did better than I was expecting at that distance with that ammo, so that pistol must be very accurate!
Each barrel will be different and love certain ammos more than others - and even a great ammo can vary from lot to lot Search ronmart on rimfirecentral.com to see my ammo findings, but the summary is the top three I tested were Lapua Center-X, RWS R50 and SK Pistol Match Special. However I tested ammos from CCI, Federal, Eley, Auguila and more. CCI is way overrated but it’s affordable and if all you are doing is plinking steel then it’s fine.
I have the standard TX22. Had a mess of FTF malfunctions 1st time out. Disassembled the mags and cleaned them...not a problem since. The trigger is shockingly good. Love it for getting trigger time without breaking the bank.
Same thing happened with "my" Rossi 22 rifle when my girlfriend shot it... 9 out of 10 shots landed in 6 inch groups at 80 yards with iron sights, her dad is a Marine sniper, so it must just be in her blood 😅
Yep.. read and watched a lot of reviews on the Glock 44 (was in disbelief to be honest because I wanted one). Then watched Outlaw's review on the TX22 and went out and bought one. First time at range - loaded it up with cheap Walmart Federal redbox and had fun. Funny thing is - two ladies in the lane beside me where having all kinds of issues - could not get through a mag without a problem... yes it was a new Glock 44. I let them run a mag through the TX and felt bad telling them it was less than half the cost of the 44 (at the time). I did get to try the 44 though.. it was just like my 19 - well except it is unreliable - second round was ftf. New Taurus stuff is not as bad as people think. Ms. Outlaw - my daughter loves your shades!
Almost 80 years old I've been around guns all my life. I've just about seen everything... Taurus can build a semi automatic 22 pistol that actually functions... and evidently Glock can't... SMH. PS thank God Glock can build every other caliber that works... Good stuff thanks for posting...
Sir, I'm 70 yrs old and congrats on getting to 80 yrs old hopefully a lot more years! Please understand, it's not that I don't like Glocks, I do..... I have a couple. What I worry about is 'fire". I'm afraid my Glocks, S&W M&P 2.0 and right down to my Taurus won't work so well after a fire. However, all my 1911's (quite a few) will still work! God Bless America and this young man and his channel!! Y'all take care, Vern
I think we can all appreciate how awesome it is that a 70 and 80 year old are conversing in a RUclips gun page comment section. That is genuinely awesome
The first 40 secs in I started watching this video already thinking to myself. Damm with so many firearms in the USA how can I suck at life this much to still not be able to afford one of my own. Cue Honest Outlaw thanking paterons for the help Honest Outlaw is indeed Honest.
You can do it bubba. Just be continuous to set aside a few bucks a week. Gotta start somewhere. If you can get up to a good 300$ you can get something decent
Watching this a year later, I usually take HO's reviews of "budget" guns with a grain of salt. He has the resources to max out his weapons and select from the best. Having said that, I respect his reviews of the mid to high range of guns on this channel. The really good thing about HO is he is warming up to some of the budget options. A few years ago, not so much. One thing I can count on with HO is the dude can shoot. 100 yards from a .22 pistol - impressive.
This gun is super reliable, super accurate, I shot 2 mini mags with it with 0 failures. I got mine for 399.99 locally, absolutely crazy gun for the price.
I have ten year old twins that unfortunately are long and lanky like their old man. Good for their hoops career but tough for them to control my Walther or HK 9mms. Bought this gun for them almost exact same setup and they are having a total blast. Got them over being trigger shy they acquired trying to control the bigger guns. I'm pretty good at about 25 yards or so, no Honest Outlaw to be sure, but as a dad, this little guy has made a huge improvement in just spending fun time with my boys in the beautiful Idaho outdoors is about as good as it gets. Not a technical analysis but from my perspective, 100% love this gun.
All excellent points on the use of a 22lr pistol for practicing sight alignment and trigger control, especially with the significant cost savings on the ammo. It seems to me that now is the perfect time to purchase a 22lr pistol if you don't already own one, and this seems like an excellent choice.
I switched from CCI quiet 22LR to Blazer 1200+fps and Aguila hollow points and I havent had a malfunction since. That was over a year ago. I havent bought bulk ammo yet but I might if I find federal punch 22lr

I find the Taurus TX 22 quite impressive. I bought a second one just to see if I was lucky with the first gun. Turns out the second one is just as good as the first. Got lucky on an auction and bought two TX 22 competition but I have yet to find some range time due to the rain.😢
My wife and I both keep semiautomatic 9mm pistols in the bedroom for home defense. We also keep an AR in 5.56 for me and a S&W 15-22 for her. I know a 22lr isn't the best thing for home defense but 26 rounds of CCI Stingers out of a 16" barrel is better than nothing. She can handle a regular AR but she's more comfortable with the little 22lr.
I can give you another reason, besides weight, as to why they probably cut back the slide - so when you disassemble it for cleaning, you can remove the barrel from the top, and don't have to remove your optic.
I can not use CCI Mini mags in mine, every 4th, 5th round jams, copper tip 22LR jams. Federal bulk pack & Aguila seem to be the only rounds that I've had some luck with. The mags spring design tends to push the tip of the follower too high. It needs to be level across the bottom of the follower to keep the pressure even. It tends to tilt & the rounds nose hits too high at the chamber, causing jams. I trimmed my follower & solved that issue.
I purchased a Tuarus TX-22 competition this past Saturday. Took it home and ran some Federal bulk auto match and I personally had about 7 failures, a couple stove pipes, and some failures to eject. My son who’s only 10 and never shot a full size semi auto before had a whole lot of failure to ejects where the extractor wouldn’t pick the spent casing up. I put CCI mini mags in and it ran like a top for both of us. I then ran some Winchester Subsonic's which aren’t really subsonic and it ran 100% for me. The bulk of the failures for my son were most likely due to him limp wristing the pistol, and being a new shooter with small hands. I am Going to clean and lube it today then put another few hundred through it this week of more types of .22 I have in storage to see what it does. If it runs 100% with mini mags I’m satisfied since that what I will run steel challenge comps with this summer anyway. It’s always a plus when a .22lr runs Remington Golden bullet, but you can’t really complain much when it doesn’t since that is the norm. Mini mags can be found at time for around $10.00 for 100 rounds so that’s definitely doable for me if I were to run out of the pretty hefty stock I already have.
I've had very good experiences with Aguila super extra copper plated. Excellent accuracy and reliability in my 15-22 and Victory. Of course Mini Mags are also great.
By now, mine has thousands of rounds through it. I prefer it over all my other 22’s. 10”X14” steel plate at 50 yards is no problem, it has a $120.00 Bushnell red dot and lays them right in there. Love it!
Lots of people call those TX22 Competitions jamomatic. I did some work on the magazines and can run any kind of ammo like a sewing machine. With any 22 LR cartridge you will have duds but that is not the guns fault. When it fails to feed its a magazine problem. This gun is the most accurate, fun to shoot, 22 that I have.
Now this was a interesting video and I recently acquired a Taurus TX 22 competition and I'm very happy with the way it functions and shoots. I have had very little problems with ammo but the ammo that I have had trouble with has been the Remington golden bullets and usually it's a failure to feed. I know that I paid too much for mine but I could not find one anywhere so I went ahead and relented and paid a 600 dollar price.
Taurus is selling the slides for those of us with basic TX22s. Got mine a few days after I ordered it. Fits just fine on my early production TX22. Gonna give it a try tomorrow or over the weekend along with a suppressor. Gotta throw a red dot on it and I'll be good to go.
@@brians5290 works great! No issues at all for me More accurate than my stock barrel. Nice to have the rigid, non reciprocating red dot mount. Makes it really easy to shoot. I often pair it up with my .22 silencer. Tons of quiet fun.
@@SEAKPhotog For someone that's getting back into shooting after 20 years away, do you think a standard tx22 would be a good choice, with then room to upgrade to the competition slide/barrel later on down the road if things go well? I've been looking at various 22's and it seems the tx22 is just great value for money and probably one of the more reliable ones out there. Or do you have another recommendation for a 22?
@hrmIwonder Howdy, I honestly have far more experience with 9mm semi autos than I do with .22s. I know the Browning Buckmark or Ruger Mark IV are probably considered the go-to .22 semis and my stepson prefers the Ruger over the my TX22. What I can say is that my TX22 has been pretty great, especially for the money (altho Taurus did have to send a replacement barrel early on - there was an issue with the early production run). If I was to do it over, I honestly don't know. I think I'd see if I could try all 3 and pick what feels, shoots and operates best and what seems the best built. I am impressed with the ergonomics and trigger of the TX22, that's for sure and I enjoy shooting it but I've never put it up against a Browning or Ruger to get a feel for their differences. Sorry I can't be more help than that! Good luck on your .22 hunt!
3 Mags? Mine regular TX22 came with 2 Mags. I bought the third from their Store. But you’re right, the Taurus TX22 is a Beast. As beastly as 22LR can be that is.
The TX22 is one of my favorites and now you can get a conversion kit from Taurus to upgrade to the Competition slide and barrel. As for reliability of 22lr, it is more reliable than a politician.
Cleaned my TX22 last night. Almost 3k through it with only handful of malfunctions, even shot some blazer through it that was made in the 90s. Ran like a top. Ergonomics are amazing. That grip texture is amazing!
I was just in Mr Guns last Saturday looking for a cyan blua and silver TX22 for my daughter. They didnt have it, but it's always fun to stop and look. Ended up odering one from Bud's and found an FFL in Waterloo that will transfer for $20 if you have a carry permit which apparently makes for less paperwork. The FFL is Micheal and Associates. He said he'll order stuff for very little markup, too. Mr. Guns wants $50 for a transfer.
tx22 are nice fun plinkers all around I have not shot this model but the ones I have shot were great good review good to see the wind did not affect those distance shots
Been watching your channel for a while now and can’t believe I haven’t subbed yet! It’s cool to see a fellow Iowan as well. Greetings from the Waterloo/CF area!
Great video, love your target setup! I ordered a TX22 Competition with range bag and three mags from Tombstone Tactical ( my FAVORITE!) for $395 with two day shipping, can’t wait!!!
Always great reviews best out there when it come to gun reviews. I would advise against dryfiring a rim fire it will typically damage the chamber seen it on another 22 pistol that was dry fired have to by a a chamber iron to fix it
Not gonna lie, I think Misses Outlaw stole the show here. That being said, I know this has a similar feel to a VP9 in terms of the TX 22 being a training tool. However, I think it would be nice if Taurus brought the overall design/feel in the hand of TX 22 into a 9mm/10mm/45cal option so this could truly be a training tool for their line of pistols. Now that I think of it, maybe it makes more sense to go the other way and bring the overall function of the TX 22 to feel more like their G line of pistols.
“I didn’t know this either”. Are The 16 round mags hard for you to find? Don’t pass up on the 10 round mags if you can buy them. You can go to Tandemkross or one of the other vendors that are selling the +3/+5/+9 extension kits. The body of the 10 round mags is hollow (same as 16 round mags) - the only difference is the side cut out (which you don’t use after taking the plug out of the follower, the internal spring is replaced with the one you buy in the extension kit and the Internal Limiter (a piece of added black tubing, is removed). You can convert a 10 round mag using the tandemKross +5 round kit to now hold 21 rounds. It works. FYI Thanks for your video!
I agree the rim fire are not as reliable as the center fire however if someone open up on me with a .22, I'm leavin. Great review as always, thanks for sharing.
22 is just fun af to shoot. love my tx22. I want the same set up glad they came out with this gun, it will be great for training and introducing new shooters to the dot. but I want it mostly for myself 😂
Outlaw rimfire steel challenge in IOWA lol really nicer than I expected thou I had tried Winchester white box Remington gold and browning bulk 22lr ammo till now the browning performs the best other than prob CCIs .
I have the regular TX22 w threaded barrel. It’s a lot of fun, especially right now while ammo is high $. Nice shooting as always! Ps Mrs Outlaw could do a collab with Autumn’s Armory with the purple hair!
I own a Sig 1911 22, and even after upgrading the guide rod/spring, buffer and barrel bushing, it still won't run anything reliably under 1235fps...everything 1235 or higher runs great
Outlaw! I'm ready for this panic-buying pandemic to be over so we can get some more Honest Outlaw videos. You never fail to deliver, but it's gotta be difficult to keep pushing out vids by this point. Keep up the good work bud; not to be a fan-boy but your channel became my favorite of all the guntubez. 🍻
If I ever got one I would take off the optics plate, I don’t have Any optics so I think removing the plate as long as it’s not a permanent removal. I think the gun has a awesome aesthetic with the open top slide and the removals the plate would slim things up and have it look somewhat like a M9 in the front and a striker fired pistol in the back.
So in your opinion, is a Beretta M9A3 or 92X (or any 92 series) not a good WROL/SHTF gun? Due to the open slide? It did serve our military for a long time. Maybe Beretta's are an exception when it comes to an open slide design?
The optic plate loosens every 50 rds, even with red loc tite. Cost me a scsa match. Used two part epoxy on the plate and screws. Yeah, I know, but it ain't moving no more.
"It's better than a sharp stick.." Words of wisdom.
I bet a lit sharpened stick a wearing lion cloth would scare them and a big ole Tarzan yell.
WTF I’m not breaking in! I’m dinner!
Honestly I’m pretty impressed with how reliable it was with that ammo.

I use my TX as a trainer for my 9mm, Including using the light at the range to simulate using it on the 9.
The TX22 is one of my favorites and now you can get a conversion kit from Taurus to upgrade to the Competition slide and barrel. As for reliability of 22lr, it is more reliable than a politician.
Taurus guns today are the best one on the market very reliable plus are priced correctly
Cleaned my TX22 last night. Almost 3k through it with only handful of malfunctions, even shot some blazer through it that was made in the 90s. Ran like a top.
Ergonomics are amazing. That grip texture is amazing!
Picked one up new for $ 425,- yesterday at a gun show !
I like her shooting glasses, awesome!
How u hit a target at 50 yards let alone 100 yards... it’s hard to see those tiny targets... amazing
The Mrs. said the red dot was "baller"!! That with her pink hair and baby blue painted nails....she's a character I'm betting.
I plan on getting one as soon as my FFL is able to get one in.
Been watching your channel for a while now and can’t believe I haven’t subbed yet! It’s cool to see a fellow Iowan as well. Greetings from the Waterloo/CF area!
Great video and shooting the Honrst Outlaw way! Love the set up and great commentary by Mrs Outlaw. 🎩♠️☯️
Oh, the review was great too!
Great video, love your target setup! I ordered a TX22 Competition with range bag and three mags from Tombstone Tactical ( my FAVORITE!) for $395 with two day shipping, can’t wait!!!
Been waiting for this review.
“I’ll put a box on your face” 😂😂😂
Love taurus guns!
Do you know why I love your channel, no ads! Oh yeah the content is pretty good as well
Kel-Tec CP33 has a 33 round .22lr quad-stack flush fit magazine, 50 rounds if you use the extendo magazine.
Shoots like John Wick and Got Dance Moves Too. Go Mr. Outlaw! You Rock! My Compliments To Mrs. Outlaw and her cool glasses.
"most reliable politician" I literally laughed out loud. That was funny.
Been waiting on this review can’t wait to get one
It works. FYI
Thanks for your video!
I agree the rim fire are not as reliable as the center fire however if someone open up on me with a .22, I'm leavin. Great review as always, thanks for sharing.
my go to ammo of choice for 22 is Remington thunderbolt
I wonder why they dont mount optics like this for the beretta92x
22 is just fun af to shoot. love my tx22. I want the same set up glad they came out with this gun, it will be great for training and introducing new shooters to the dot.
but I want it mostly for myself 😂
This is one I’ve got to get my hands on!
Outlaw rimfire steel challenge in IOWA lol really nicer than I expected thou I had tried Winchester white box Remington gold and browning bulk 22lr ammo till now the browning performs the best other than prob CCIs .
Him: Check that grip out
Her: *uncontrollable coughing*
Me: My thoughts exactly
I have the regular TX22 w threaded barrel. It’s a lot of fun, especially right now while ammo is high $. Nice shooting as always! Ps Mrs Outlaw could do a collab with Autumn’s Armory with the purple hair!
I own a Sig 1911 22, and even after upgrading the guide rod/spring, buffer and barrel bushing, it still won't run anything reliably under 1235fps...everything 1235 or higher runs great
Can’t wait for your review of the new pair of high capacity micro 9mm. The Ruger Max 9 and the S&W 9 Shield Plus! I value your opinion very highly!
looking for both+
I second this opinion.
😎< Outlaw Emoji
The slide broke on my standard tx22 at about 600 rounds. On the front between the guide rod hole and the barrel hole one side cracked clean through
Great video and Happy Saint Patrick's day. Now stop that whatever you were doing!
Lov’n the fixed barrel and mean look ☠️
Where's your Sig P322 review? Also, what's the best optic and suppressor for the money for the P322? Thank you
Such an awesome channel.... Even some dancing in this one... ;)
Which optic please
Bought a tx 22 competition yesterday (based on THIS video) wow!!! Yinz rock. Thank you
Nice sunglasses Mrs outlaw
Thanks
Man wish I waited, would of, should of could of .... facts of life...
Just bought one new in box for $450 out the door. Im guessing Im going to like it ! Thanks !
Mr Outlaw.....I want your thoughts on the NEW 9 SHIELD PLUS. 💪
Great content! I'll probably be looking into this pistol... side note, killer hair Mrs outlaw!!
Love the shades!
Mrs Outlaw is out there killing it.
I know now what I’m getting with my stimi money
Love the Dance moves at the end!! 😂🤣😂🤣😎
Damnit!!! I've been trying to find one of these.... Now it's going to be impossible lol
I love 22s.
Thanks for the video
