    We love our Taurus TX22! It is my wife's favorite now by a long margin. It is also one of the first 22s to be totally safe to dry fire with its nifty striker. As for the magazine issues people have reported the first bullet in a fully loaded magazine can have difficulty getting stripped. Just load 15 rounds until broken in and problem solved.

    Have a tx22 in all-black. I've only run CCI Mini Mags through it but I'm at about seven hundred rounds. 0 malfunctions so far. The malfunctions can be ammo related but it could also be the cheap plastic mags.

    • @SEAKPhotog
      @SEAKPhotog 5 лет назад +1

      Yeah, the cheap plastic mags do feel cheap and plastic. They don't inspire confidence that's for sure.

    • @nazdhuxhejgshzhjd
      @nazdhuxhejgshzhjd 5 лет назад +5

      Plastic magazines Flex easier which could lead to failures and they're more likely to have failures in production than metal magazines. The tolerances with metal tend to be tighter. Not saying plastic magazine don't work.

    Great review. The TX22 I handled at a local shop felt excellent. 2 things: 1. IF you hold the slide back about 1/16" you can fire the striker, unloading the spring without banging the firing pin (as well all know, a no no one most rimfires). 2. Read the article in Forbes Magazine about how Taurus has changed a lot of their top brass and hired better engineers. As you have mentioned, they really are coming up in the world! Other reviewers have had good luck with this arm. One guy I know has one he really likes and it has been very reliable for him.

    Good first pistol. Son’s old enough and wife wanted to learn to shoot, so this is my first firearm purchase. I shot a LONG time ago in USAR. Really like the TX22 so far. Taurus seems to have upped their game as well.

      My gun shop had a display gun so I got to fondle it for a long time today. The gun feels great in the hand pretty light good sights ...... BUT The trigger is terrible!!!! It’s mushy AF with no wall. It just mushes and the breaks. I’m no trigger snob either. It feels almost exactly like a S&W ve40 or the SD. Now I will still buy one but the triggers terrible. It's our first Semi automatic 22 that would shoot cheap ammo without any issues. We even shot our SR22 Ruger side by side and Taurus out performed 10-1 with reliability and accuracy. Didn't ever think that I would say that "A Taurus" would be a favorite!

    4:45 I had that once last year with another 22 handgun, when I looked at the casing it was cracked almost halfway down, Remington Thunderbolt for those interested. Seems like the quality control at Remington hasn't improved much over the years. Having fired over 1,000 rounds out of my own TX22 I can tell you those failures were all Ammo related and not Gun related. Also that mag stacking is how Taurus was able to make 16 round magazines for there 22 while everybody else is still making 10 rounders. I would also mention that if your ever shooting Golden Bullets in this gun without gloves on, watch out of brass flaking from the round / unspent gun powder burning your hand. I've only experienced this with Golden Bullets, every other 22 round ran fine.

You can order the entire TX22 Competition top end (slide/barrel/sights spring an guide rod) and swap onto the TX 22 converting it to a longer bull barrel, optic ready, Competition version. Its 199.95 on Taurus's website.

    Concerning the odd internal stacking of the rounds in the magazine, if you look at other .22 rimfire pistols you'll see the same pattern - for example the Ruger SR22. The reason they are designed that way is to mitigate "rim lock", which can happen if the rim of the next round in line is situated behind the rim of the round below it. This can catch upon pickup, causing a failure to feed (in various manifestations). Having the round below the "on deck" round skewed to the side alters the rim-to-rim aspect and prevents catching - or is supposed to. Sometimes a combination of forward slant and twisting in the magazine is built in to sway the rounds side to side on their way up and align the rims so that the "on deck" round's rim is always ahead of the rim on the round below - again, this isn't always 100% effective, but I've found after break-in on my SR22 that those failures seemed to go away, to be replaced by the standard dud .22 every 200-300 rounds or so (Winchester White Box - old).

    You Sir are without a doubt an experienced & excellent marksman, how do I know that well I’ve watched a ton of your videos & I’ve seen the amazing improvement over the latest year or two, but I think you may be over running that little TX 22 and as im sure you know rim fired ammunition & knowing how to load the magazines is very important to the overall shoot abilities of the firearm. With all of that said, you may be too good & fast for that little 22, unless you’re 22 Plinkster who has the finesse & the sweet touch for 22 LR, but as far as 9mm goes, you are crazy freaking great no matter the distance or speed, i think you are by far the best self taught hand guns marksman i have ever seen

It has fed CCI, Aquilla, Winchester, etc... with no issues at all. My wife and one of my boys have had several failures to eject or stove pipes, but I help them clear it and shoot myself with no issues, so think it is their grip on the gun causing it.

  • @bobc1911
    @bobc1911 5 лет назад +4

    Mine have been perfectly reliable other than with some ammo that got wet and mildewed - some of that simply won't go off. As long as you pay attention loading the mags and make sure that you you don't get rim over rim lock, everything will be good. That's also why you should not use the loading tabs - compressing the spring and dropping rounds in will almost guarantee overlapped rims. Just thumb the rounds in the old fashioned way. I get Mrs. Outlaws' appreciation on the gun - my sister loved mine so much and shot it so well when I took her shooting that I ended up giving it to her. She just didn't like even mild 9 mm and 16 .22 hollowpoints accurately placed is better than any amount of 9mm misses or badly placed hits. I replaced it with the non safety version.

  • @cyclinggospel5307
    @cyclinggospel5307 3 года назад

    Oh, well since many people says that gun is cheap and accurate and good, I bought this gun and ran into the problem with magazine. I cleaned it up good and I was still having problem. It won't load bullet into chamber. I carefully inspected magazine, and I found that it has MECHANICAL PROBLEM BY DESIGN. At the top of the magazine at rear end is two vertical slit open window where it is angulated to stop the bullet for loading. Bullet twist left and right every other ones when you load them into magazine, since this is rimfire bullet, it has ridge at the bottom of the bullet, This ridge enter into the open slit window when it comes up to the top, and it is also angulated at the top, bullet jammed right there. If the window was about "1mm" smaller or if the angulated spot is rounded up, it wouldn't have caused problem, but since the slit window covers more than 1/2 the diameter of the bullet ridge, and it is angulated, the bullet ridge get jammed in there. The only way to overcome it at this mechanism is that the spot wears out smooth and rounded up, so the ridge doesn't get stuck there. since the angulation was NOT ROUNDED UP, and more than half of the ridge of the bullet enters into the slit window, there will be always a chance that bullet will get jammed in there. This is mechanical design failure. When we pay over $300 dollars, you don't have to fire 1000 bullets to make magazine work. It fires accurate and very good as many people mentioned, but My solution to anybody considering this gun is to perhaps pay a few more dollars and buy another gun, M&P 22 was only a few dollar more expensive I think it doesn't have any mechanical design problem. That is where the reputation of the company comes into place I think. Oh, well. I just am very regretful that I bought this gun since so many people said this gun was good but didn't mention that it has mechanical flaw in design of the magazine. I guess I shouldn't have trusted everything RUclips people said. Obviously, can't trust all things said on the RUclips.

    I bought one of these pistols and was so excited. Took it to the range and it ate everything I fed it. At 250 rounds it started to key hole. The barrel was so caked with lead that when I tried to clean it my cleaning rod got stuck inside and then when I pulled it out the tip remained stuck in the barrel. Sent it back. After a quick search I see that this issue with barrels is common. It ran like a champ and turns out I am the chump.

    I've put several thousand rounds thru mine with only a few hiccups. Most of the jams were from my son using the spring assist thingy on the mag, which causes the rounds to flatten and not want to feed properly. Mine runs great as long as you just load the mag like you would most other mags. This thing runs much better than I expected.

The mags do stack a little funny but they are 16 rounds instead of most 10 round 22LR's out there and this is such a fun gun that I can't think of a reason not to recomend it. I have the same failures with my Kel-Tec PMR30. The mags don’t always stack evenly. It gets worse as the barrel heats up. I think the heat expands the barrel just enough that the spent shells don’t eject properly. I use a cleaning rod to push them out. Fun gun to shoot when it functions properly. Rarely an issue with my Ruger Mk IV target 10 round single stack mags.

    Love my TX 22! I’ve put about 1,000 rds through mine so far and haven’t had one jam/problem. I bought it in Aug 2019. Sportsman’s in Ankeny and online shows a current price of $269.

    Good Video. Just want to let people know. I bought one and the barrel rifling was cut wrong. I contacted Tuarus and they are aware of the problem. They told me a batch of bad barrels got out and it will be at least 3 months before I can get a new one.

    It comes in a model without the manual safety. You want to be careful to make sure the rim of each higher round is in front of the rim or the round below it, else you can experience various feed problems, but that is true for most multi-round .22 lr mags. It's also better to use higher velocity rounds in this gun, but you should at least use the higher velocity rounds for initial break-in. Amazingly good trigger. Just wish it had a cutout for a red-dot sight. Thanks for a great video. I'm impressed with your group at 35 yards in all that wind. Perhaps in your 1000/2000 round review, you can show us how well it can group under benign conditions. It should make a great trainer.

  • @AudioGardenSlave123

    I'm sure he's figured this out now but the mags are designed to cross-lap the rims of the rounds. There's no odd stuff going on in the mag. I think the newer TX22's have better recoil springs but as for the mags it's best to smack them on your palm after loading them so all the rounds seat where they want.

    Good luck getting one with a good barrel. I have been waiting 4 months for replacement barrel. A friend of mine requested a replacement barrel a month after I did. He got his barrel in two months, still waiting for mine. Called customer service, they could care less. Same old Taurus customer service.

    If you take a little more care than you would normally when loading the mags they seem to run really good. I pull the mag spring down to help seat the rounds and give the mag a couple taps at the back end and usually have zero problems. For the money it's a sweet little plinker and I love mine.

    Years ago I was a big fan of golden bullets. Then somewhere along the way they kept getting worse and worse until I just gave up on them. CCI started to give me reliability issues and a lot of velocity variance back during the Great Ammo Shortage, my guess is because they were running the production lines turned up to 11 and I think they let QC slip in order to get orders filled as fast as possible. In the past couple of years as I burned through my stock and replaced it I haven't had any more issues and I'm back to loving CCI. But as everyone knows, each .22 has its own taste in ammo and part of the fun is figuring out which flavor it prefers.

  • @checkyoursixgaming

    I own one of these. Check the barrel after. These had a batch of bad rifling in the barrel. I had it swapped once and it is still bad after the swap. On lead nose ammo the uneven rifling strips the bullet and foul the crown up like crazy. Too much and it starts to chew the end as I had happen on my first barrel.

    I Have a kazillion rounds through mine using four magazines. From trial and error I advise using CCI high velo ammo, any grain weight. I have had zero malfunctions with CCI Stingers, but the TX22 will sometimes balk with standard velo bulk ammo, including Remington Golden. The thumb safety for me is an advantage in teaching.introducing new shooters to the semi-auto, as I it addresses the safety factor for the not unusual tendency of the muzzle discipline bad habits of new shooters until they are sufficiently trained. I have seen a few first time shooters turn their entire torso to look laterally on a range....damn! I want the safety on until the weapon is presented to the target while coordination of trigger finger-eyes to target is learned. Also, being an old timer that shot competitively with the 1911, it is inconsequential for me. My opinion is that the TX22 is a good value as an intro trainer, kit gun, and general walking around the woods gun, but not anywhere near a fighting pistol (although one should be proficient with all styles of weapons, single action and DA revolvers, DA pistols, hammer or striker fired, etc.). Thank you for the review sir.

    My TX 22 is my favorite "go to" when I hit the range. I run only Federal 36 gr hollow point bulk pack through it. Literally thousands of rounds through it, with only an occasional failure to fire, maybe one every few hundred rounds. Ammo issue, not a pistol issue. Never use the assist tabs when loading (why would you?) and never have any feed issues. NEVER! Awesome trigger, awesome gun, awesome fun!

    Mine has been totally jam free with Thunderbolts (Remington's TRULY cheap load). They do need to be correctly staggered in the magazine - use of the Taurus supplied loading tool will help insure this, as it maintains pressure on the stack during loading, unlike other methods which pull down the follower while allowing the stack to rattle around.
