Excellent review, I have a better understanding of what this unit can do now. I know how much time it takes to make a video like this. Well done and appreciate your time. Looking forward to your reaction in a fighter jet 😀
I have the P3 unit since 5 years, mine is actually the one with the regular gearboxes before they introduced the SFU. I plan on upgrading the gear boxes in the near future. I had and still have so much fun each time I use it together with VR, sound transducers and wind simulator ( for open car racing and roller coaster). Regarding the getting in and out of the unit, this can be easily solved if you install a seat slider. I installed a seat slider on my unit even though I have a bucket seat with side mounts, it didn’t only solve the getting in and out issue but also made the unit more adjustable and user friendly. Regarding the complexity of the assembly process, calibration of the motors and balancing of the unit, rest assured that you’ll learn them by heart after doing them a couple of times when you install new hardware and peripherals that they will become a second nature. If you have this unit you have to bear in mind that this is an ever on going process of assembly, disassembly and calibration with each addition of hardware peripherals and this is actually part of the fun. One big plus about this company is their continuous solid support for their products and you can see that clearly if you join dofreality fb group. When I purchased this unit back in 2018 there were limited choices in the market and dofreality was almost the only feasible one budget-wise. Now there are more choices but dofreality continues to upgrade their products to keep up with the competition.
@@redtailpilot If it’s intended for home use and if you’re within the max weight range of the H3 ( 150kg according to their website) then H3 with the SFU gearboxes for the front motors is the way to go.
For anyone looking at motion platforms I do not believe you can go wrong with any of the DOF products. I spent literally months and who knows how many hours researching all of the major motion platforms, reading reviews, watching every youtube review I could find, comparing specs, etc., and I believe the value for the dollars spent on a DOF system cannot be beat. Yes you can easily spend twice or three times (or more) for a "better" motion platform but I do not believe what you are getting is even close to two or three times "better" than the DOF system. I have had my P3 (with the SFU gears) for almost exactly 1 year and I love it (I am actually upgrading mine to the P6). Most of my use is in MSFS 2020 and X-Plane, however I have many many hours in multiple racing sims also. Using my MSFS logbook as a tracker and estimating my racing time I would guess I have put upwards of 450-500 hrs on the platform and have had 0 problems, not one bolt working loose, nothing. My only small issue was with the SRS software and that was solely my fault for wanting to jump right in and fly and not paying much attention to learning the software, which you really should do to get the most of what you want out of the platform, you can customize virtually every setting to make the platform feel like a caddy floating down the freeway or a monster truck jumping cars. To address a few comments I saw here, the range of motion and response time is much more than enough for a very enjoyable experience, in fact I had to add racing seatbelts to my cockpit after my first highspeed roll over wreck nearly threw me out of my seat, and really steep turns in a flight simulator are right at the edge of being able to stay in the seat without belts. I would also recommend an adjustable seat, not only for getting in and out but also for use by multiple size people (Everyone wants to try it). As for the screen not moving with the platform, that is really a non issue in my experience, and everyone that has used mine has not had an issue with that, although I do use 3 - 43" monitors and use head tracking which really helps I think. There are videos of mounting monitors to the platform and while it is "Not Recommended" I firmly believe if the platform is balanced correctly it should not be an issue, I think I would be more concerned with the monitor and mounting system standing up to extreme platform movement in wrecks and such. And Finally the guys at DOF are second to none in my book, I agonized for a long time about spending this much money on something I could not physically look at and "feel", and I emailed Igor multiple times with questions and was amazed at how quickly he would get back to me and I wasn't even a customer yet. There was a small hiccup with shipping that was totally out of DOF control but they were right on top of it and resolved the issue in a timely manner and kept in constant touch with me. I do not believe you can go wrong with any of the DOF products or the customer service.

I'm interested in knowing what device you ordered -- 30 bucks sounds pretty good when compared to a Vive Tracker! Looks like a Wit-Motion device from what he said in DOFs Discord. I asked what software would work best for it but still waiting on OPs response. Hopefully it can pair well with SRS or openXR. Ordered one since my h2 should be coming any day now :)
Great video - I have just ordered an H3 and it would be really useful to know what settings you have used in the SRS software? I know from Steve at VRFlightSimGuy that Motion Smoothing is now available which he reckons solves the issue you were experiencing so look forward to that video too.....
Looks great. In the real world (as opposed to the sim flyers or racers world) this is what this kind of tech/engineering should cost. Not the absurd amounts currently being charged for other platforms. $3500 USD for a 2-dof seat mover being a perfect example. I wish the best for DOF.
I watched it till the end! It was a lot of useful information. Did you noticed sometimes that some movements are ignored by the platform? For example, fast sudden movements in a jet fighter. I fly airliners almost every day and I love to purchase the 3 DOF.
Are you on the sfu version. Curious what type of msfs srs profiles you went with for aerobatic craft or jets. The max teletry values VS Cessna 152 v 172

Would really appreciate if you could do a very easy to follow thorough video on how to install hookup and set up the motion compensation installation and set up, and settings, for us not super technical people. Very slow step by step procedure. Would really appreciate it thank you so much!

You have more videos any channel I subscribed to. It would be nice if I could search out the dof videos when I get mine chip to me. Was looking for emotion compensation one but there are so many I cannot find it. Is there a way to search your videos for certain ones? Thank you for help
i've had the 6DOF unit for awhile...the P6...and it is great. SUPER immersive. The only downside is the Arduino units that supply the interface to the motors on the movements and the fans are not exactly "robust", and have failed multiple times, requiring replacement, and flashing from the guys at SRS. For the money its the best set of units on the market.
Thanks for yours opinions about this platform ,I'm planning myself to get this or another, a couple of things you could mention:.. The price in the website is going to increase when you choose sfu gear around 300 dollars, and that is mandatory otherwise is not going to be a smooth experience, if you want to mount 3 monitor then you have to go with the p3 and tha is another 1000 dollars.. So yess there are another options out there like yaw vr and Sr1 from Sweden and a couple other..
This is like playing MSFS with home cockpit mode off. (99% of player base). If your cockpit turns without you it absorbs the immersion. This is the opposite input, same result. This product is clearly VR only but I am thrilled to see it on the market!
Very cool. Looks like I need to put this on my Santa wish list. Would the Meta Quest 3 with a PC link performed well in this scenario or would it be preferable to have a native PC VR headset?
My concerns is that I noticed while turning, the chair maintains that angle in reality you do not feel the angle of bank as the centrifugal force ( similar to a motorbike) will make you feel upright. Only the eyes will tell you elswise. Otherwise when cloud flying it would be simple to feel you are banking (which it isnt) a good motion simulator takes these forces into account. Fly straight and put in bank which requires stick forward and you will feel bank and tilt. But a balanced turn may feel a little bit of bank initialy then nothing but g load up as you increase the bank. You dont need to be a pilot to expience this. A motorbike or even taking a fast turn on a bicycle will deminstate this.....
Hi, there is an option in SimRacingStudio software used to manage aircraft profiles. You can chose to manage pitch and roll using telemetry in "Angle" or "Rate" mode. When roll is in "Rate" mode and if your turn is well balanced/coordinated, then the chair will slowly move back to level and you will get 1G force in your vertical body axis (even with a banking angle relative to the horizon).
Very interesting video thank you. You mentioned you were new to recording v r. I'd appreciate if you could tell me how to do that. I have tried everything even OBS and I end up with 2 goggle views. I have watched on RUclips but could not seem to find anything showing how to make it one full screen. Thank you for any help.
Hi I've never purchased a racing seat before. And I just ordered the h6. I'm tall like you and want a good comfortable seat that slides back and forward. Can you recommended. Thx Lee
Wonderful video as usual and very detailed , I just ordered my H3 and my question about motion do I need both sim racing software and the tool WT901C ? Thanks a lot
Hi, great video and very informative. Would you mind sharing your tuning specs, please? I have been moving between profiles and trying to find one that works best with helicopters. Your looks like it handles very smoothly with good reactions. Thanks!
I have the H3 and there is a huge cogging on MSFS, slow turns are like thump thump thump thump thump, really annoying, hope they will find a fix. No fix as of January 2024.
Dof reality downside is the international freight cost. Freight to nz doubled the purchase price. Lucky there’s another cheaper option. Diy from Xsimulator. My build cost for diy 2dof was about 300-350usd
I've now bought and built the H3 rig but my seat (Omega XL RS) had a broken rail so I am looking for an alternative seat. Which exact model and side mount did NLR send you? If you know - Having real trouble finding something with the mounting holes in the same position as the DOF H3 rig @overkillsimulations - thanks
Really appreciate you sharing this and I really wonder if you would have missed 'yaw' had you only tried the H2. I'm ready to buy the H2 as the H3 is $1000 more and I am not yet convinced that the yaw is worth that much more. If money wasn't an issue, I would go with the H3/P3 definitely! Thank you OverKill
The thing that's stopping me from getting one of these is the extra costs to get it shipped to Europe. I'd have to pay almost an extra 1000 euro in shipping and import tax to get it delivered..
@@OverkillSimulations Talking about the carpet. I’m dying to get me one (P3) and have a discussion with the wife you would not expect. I want to build it up at the attic where she says it gets to hot in the summer (tend to agree with that) and she wants me to put it in the living room. I’m like….whattttttt? Your kidding me….. Nope, she is dead serious about it but I’m wondering if that is not going to snug up too much space. Could you do me a favor and measure (metric) the absolute minimum footprint this things has? From front to back in lowest and highest motion positions and left to right with utter motion? I will add a couple of extensions onto it though like the Hotas mount, probably on both sides for some extra gadgets. You really would help me out here. Thanks buddy, keep up the great videos🎉
A little mixed up with your terminology? Are you referring to 2axis (roll and pitch) vs 3 axis (roll, pitch and yaw) and not the degree of movement of each axis, which seems greater than 3 degrees?
Exactly, each axis is called degree of freedom ( and hence the name D.O.F )and not movement. Range of movement of each axis ranges between 16 - 40 degrees depending on the model.
I've been using the NLR V3 seat-mover in DCS (in VR only) for a few years now, but thinking about something with more immersion. I've been eyeing DOF and trying to decide if I should go with the H3 or H6. If I do go with one, I'm also thinking of putting my V3 on ebay.😂 Oh and speaking of stalls in the Skyhawk. I scared the crap out of myself the first time my CFI had me do them in the real thing years ago, while working on my PPL. Not sure why I pushed the yoke full forward placing us at 90 degree angle to mother earth! I wasn't laughing & giggling though, I was sweating bullets LOL🤣
Hey Redtail, obviously you've been on my channel but I'll throw my 2 cents in here. I think the H3 is easier to get in and out of, and has better range of motion in the Pitch and Roll areas. BUT I have to tell you, when you launch off the carrier or kick in the Afterburner and get moved back with Surge in the H6, WOW. Also when you have a hard landing the heave lets you know you are on the ground... It's magic. Hope that helps a little.
@@jaco523 I'm working on the best Motion Compensation for my rig and have had it working in a prototype form. Finalizing it now and plan to do a video on it once I work it all out. There are basically 2 forms... you can use the Witmotion or a tracker. I can't get the Witmotion to work well on my H6 so been using the tracker for now. And yes, without it, it does move you through the seat.
@@GYGOtv that would be great, thanks! I've been successful using openxr motion compensation on my h6, as long as I utilize 'enhanced g-forces' in my motion profile. If I turn it off so that I can get true surge and sway(the reason i got the h6), then SRS and oxrmc doesn't seem to handle that well and my view slides forward/backward and side to side.
@@jaco523 Yep that is exactly the issue I'm having too, and using "enhanced g-forces" is something I won't do (I love my Surge and Heave). I went to the Vive Controller Method and tested in OpenVR and it worked great for motion but VERY susceptible to vibration (which is a problem with a Buttkicker). We have been trying to mitigate the vibration both physically and through software settings and got it working pretty good. Now I just need to see if I can get the same result with OpenXR. Stay tuned.
You know I'd really like to consider this but the roll behavior is incorrect and I think for me would be an immersion killer. I've noticed it before but was corroborated by a professional pilot commenting -- in a coordinated turn which is the way most people turn most of the time, you should feel a banking roll to begin with but then should settle back up to upright. You should not feel like you're being pulled to the side during the whole turn. You know this implicitly when you fly in a commercial airliner. When the plane turns, you may feel some additional heaviness into your seat, but you don't feel like you're getting pulled to the left or right. It's incorrect for the seat to roll to one side during the whole turn. That would only be correct if you were banking while flying straight -- like those knife edge acrobatic maneuvers. In a normal turn the seat should mostly be upright, not banked. To me this is enough of an error that I would not want to spend the money on this gear as it would not feel real at all.
The range of movement always struck me as being very limited with the DOF Reality system compared to say the Yaw2, did you find yourself wanting more movement in the cockpit?
Yes, the Yaw 2, with unlimited yaw movement, 70 degrees of pitch and 40 degrees of roll gives you a much more immersive experience, especially when flying helicopters or in driving simulations. However, even with less movement, systems like those offered by DOF provide enough motion to increase the realism of the sim.
I recently got a Yaw2 and honestly I regret my purchase. I thought the motion would enhance the immersion but it really did the opposite for me. I feel like it makes my flights worse, harder to fly, and more tiring. Many reasons for this: 1. The motion is very rough, ratchety 2. The motion can be jerky at times and actually cause PIO 3. The motion feels very fake to me. Feels very video game/arcade like and not real airplane like. I think this is mostly because the center of rotation is right under your but which is not right. I wonder how the DOF Reality compares to the Yaw2 in these issues One Pro I will give the Yaw2 though is it is its own tracker for purposes of Motion Compensation. It publishes the platforms actual position, so OpenXR Motion Compensation just reads it directly. DOF Should do the same.
Does this come with a divorce attorney referral? Because I would need one if I bought this. Lol A very nice looking system for the price at a significantly lower price that the competition.
it's still much cheaper than a new harley davidson. Lead with that, then I'm sure she'll be happy when you tell her you decided to get a motion rig instead of a motorcycle
I didn't see any feedback as far as a rumble seat. I'd really like to see a seat kicker that would be able to transmit the rotor wash, whether it would be main rotor flop or droop or crop also with vibrations through the frame to your seat. Buying a helicopter is totally by the seat of your pants in real life. As a helicopter pilot, military and civilian, it is imperative That you're able to feel what's going on entirely by the seat of your pants. If somebody can learn how to fly helicopter without the ability of the inner ear and vibrations of a helicopter. They would be well ahead of the curve getting into a real one. Of course the sensations would blow their mind, but that is my love of my civilian and military hours. Those in my squadron just cannot believe or try to understand what I'm trying to explain to them. But I can take a Blackhawk Halo and fly it like a mosquito and it just boggles their mind. Not realizing almost 3 k hours in many different helos totally combined hours. I wonder if you have a solution for that. Thank you for your kindness and your tutorial. Can't wait for some feedback for that issue. Ty. God bless 🕊️🕊️🕊️
Nice video! I just wish that you, along with other creators, would not repeat so much information. I think you mention that you would get to the cost at the end of the video about 6 times. Just a bit of overkill and waste of my time.
Sooooo..If you do aerobatics....in it.. Will it make you hurl... and squeal like a two year old. ..(Please mommy please...make it stop!!) I want one....(barf bags included???) 🐦
I personally find I get less sense of motion sickness with the movement from the rig, as after all, the main reason why people feel ill in VR is due to the conflict between the brain being tricked into thinking you are moving, when your body is stationary.
@VRFlightSimGuy I remember my flight Instructor sit me down in a swivel chair and made me close my eyes and he started spinning me around...and around.. after about 30 seconds..( he asked which direction I was going ..I said left) he told me to open my eyes... I was sitting still..... I went to stand up...and fell flat on my behind...and I felt sick to my stomach.. That's called Vertigo...( I kills a lot of low time pilots flying in bad cloudy weather) Thats why you are required to get an instrument rating if you fly in inclement weather..( in the Soup). 🐦
@@larrysouthern5098 Its never made me come close to hurling but it can definatly make you squeal like a little girl.
SRS just recently released motion compensation. Does that mean I do not need some external device now… ?
that’s what I heard.
Hi
I've never purchased a racing seat before.
Not anymore actually! Just the sim racing pro app is my understanding now
Hi, great video and very informative.
Try the F-22 full afterburner flyby on an airport 🔥🔥🔥 great vid
Do you think it is sturdy emough to use a Direct Drive wheel with it?
Yes I do
Can someone comment on how this compares to the Yaw2?
I've now bought and built the H3 rig but my seat (Omega XL RS) had a broken rail so I am looking for an alternative seat. Which exact model and side mount did NLR send you? If you know - Having real trouble finding something with the mounting holes in the same position as the DOF H3 rig @overkillsimulations - thanks
Im thinking in getting the next level racing v3 motion. Do you think it would be worth the immersion upgrade if you mainly fly a320 fenix?
Also not using vr
Really appreciate you sharing this and I really wonder if you would have missed 'yaw' had you only tried the H2. I'm ready to buy the H2 as the H3 is $1000 more and I am not yet convinced that the yaw is worth that much more. If money wasn't an issue, I would go with the H3/P3 definitely! Thank you OverKill
I can tell you VR Simpilot has the H2 and LOVES it if that helps
The thing that's stopping me from getting one of these is the extra costs to get it shipped to Europe. I'd have to pay almost an extra 1000 euro in shipping and import tax to get it delivered..
Any idea how this would work with the Tobii Eye Tracker 5...?
I wonder the same thing, since my Tobii mounts under the monitor. Would it be best to have the monitor move with the rig?
All of that information and no discussion of the make/installation of that beautiful carpet?
Cheapest carpet I could find and I put it in for no other reason than to stop the echo lol
A simmer in the Xbox group for mfs2020 needs help putting one of these together...any ideas?
@@GYGOtv are you using motion compensation with your h6? otherwise the carrier launch would really slide your view in VR backward.
Stay tuned.
OK, DOF Reality... You have my attention.
Do you think a 6'7" 255lbs guy can get in that? 36" inseam might be a problem?
You'd have to move the seat back but yes lol
I would go but Im not dropping money in Texas
It looks like a cool toy. However, for those that do not use VR, It would be a better experience if the monitors moved with the platform. No?
They do sell the monitor stand 😉
Yeap there is a monitor mount too :) that’s what the sim racers are using.
I think the monitor moving with you would be best for those who have problems with VR. That's what my end goal is going to be
What goggles are you using ?
8kx from pimax
For flight simulators you’ll need the 6DOF.
Clearly the helicopter problem was because you didn't put your David Clark's on! HAHAHAHA! Great Vid. Thx.
I knew I forgot something!
I'm sure more would be great.. but having not used anything else, no I don't find the desire for more
It's truly been so much fun
The yaw 2 has more flaws than this one.
@@alexsp7086 It also almost _twice_ the price!
@@alexsp7086Can you elaborate?
I recently got a Yaw2 and honestly I regret my purchase. I thought the motion would enhance the immersion but it really did the opposite for me. I feel like it makes my flights worse, harder to fly, and more tiring. Many reasons for this:
1. The motion is very rough, ratchety
2. The motion can be jerky at times and actually cause PIO
3. The motion feels very fake to me. Feels very video game/arcade like and not real airplane like. I think this is mostly because the center of rotation is right under your but which is not right.
I wonder how the DOF Reality compares to the Yaw2 in these issues
One Pro I will give the Yaw2 though is it is its own tracker for purposes of Motion Compensation. It publishes the platforms actual position, so OpenXR Motion Compensation just reads it directly. DOF Should do the same.
Does this come with a divorce attorney referral? Because I would need one if I bought this. Lol
A very nice looking system for the price at a significantly lower price that the competition.
it's still much cheaper than a new harley davidson.
Between you and VR Flight Sim Guy I'm getting very close to a empty bank account and a divorce, but it is so tempting :)
Ramen noodles are cheap and just think of all the time you'll have to fly :)
( I hope my wife doesn't see this lol )
Nice video! I just wish that you, along with other creators, would not repeat so much information. I think you mention that you would get to the cost at the end of the video about 6 times. Just a bit of overkill and waste of my time.
Sooooo..If you do aerobatics....in it..
Will it make you hurl...
and squeal like a two year old.
..(Please mommy please...make it stop!!)
I want one....(barf bags included???)
🐦
It's come close lol
That's called Vertigo...( I kills a lot of low time pilots flying in bad cloudy weather)
Thats why you are required to get an instrument rating if you fly in inclement weather..( in the Soup).

@@larrysouthern5098 Its never made me come close to hurling but it can definatly make you squeal like a little girl. If you noticed he has an emergency stop button mounted to the left side of his seat, its not just for looks. I have never used The "oh shit" button but both of my grown sons and several of their friends have.
I dont know why ppl keep calling these cheap/inexpensive. Every one of their products is over 2k now...
They used to be inexpensive, but thats no longer the case...
Their competitors are much higher.. for example next level racing I believe is over 5k
Is this a sponsored video? I did not notice a sponsorship announcement.
I honestly do not feel comfortable with your reluctance to name a price at the beginning or competitors.
