    Very nice.. don't pay attention to the trolls. I think this is a great instrument training tool. With the right instructor.. You should be able to get a rating with less than 10 hrs in actual airplane. Why not practice in imc weather.

    • @LeonardBrownArtbyLeonard
      @LeonardBrownArtbyLeonard  2 года назад +1

      @@redtailpilot, I think the H6 motion chair is 35% pretty close to real life. It still takes a lot of fine tuning in the SRS software app to get more realism. I haven’t gotten it to recreate the nose wheel bounce or the swaying on final approach like in a real Cessna 172.
      I’ve heard that the P6 has a few more degrees of movement over the H6. I might upgrade to the P6 motors so that I can get those extra degrees of movement.

      @ Andrew Heyman, Thank you very much! You can start with a decent computer and run triple monitors. I used to have an Nvidia graphics card that supported 3 monitors before I went with this VR headset. You will also need a powerful cpu, at least 16GB of ram, and a graphics card with at least 10-12 GB of memory to run a flight simulator setup well. Mr. Brown, I am in the process of getting the DOF Reality H6 and have several questions regarding your setup. What factors made you go with the H6 rather than the P6, Usage time vs. cost? or some other factor? Also What seat did you go with and does it have a center stick cutout as it appears to have? I am primarily going to use the unit for DCS flight and want to mount both a side stick for fixed wing and center stick for rotary wing. Much appreciate your time to answer a few questions. Very nice setup!

    • @LeonardBrownArtbyLeonard
      @LeonardBrownArtbyLeonard  Год назад +6

      @Sean McNeely, Hello, I went with the H6 because I didn’t really need the heavy duty motors that came with the P6.
      The seat that I use is the RS9 by GT Omega. It’s a really nice seat. The seat rail holes lined up perfectly with the H6 seat rail holes. It doesn’t have a center stick cutout.
      The newer DOF platforms all come with the upgraded motors called SFU gearboxes. These SFU motors provide much smoother motion and have higher degrees of motion.
      On the older style motors that I have, you can feel the gear lash.

    Im fly Xplane and MFS for both fun and to also learn the basics of flying. I use Oculus Vr equipment. I am on the boarder to buying a H3 unit but when watching the video, it doesnt look as if there is much experience in using a simulator seat when flying basic rotations and movements. They are normally subtle. My question is are the DOF units worth the money when it comes to using it for standard flights? With your basic movements in the video, its hard to tell if you are really feeling the experience or if its so subtle its unnoticeable.
    I do know these are great for Iracing as there is a lot more drastic movement. But im more into flying. Money is not an issue, however I do not buy luxuries just to buy them. Have to get an experience out of the investment. Thanks for any info. (Second question could be is the H6 worth paying extra over the H3 based on what ive asked about...once again question if the experience is that great upgrading?) I have no way of trying on which would answer all of this.

    • @LeonardBrownArtbyLeonard
      @LeonardBrownArtbyLeonard  2 года назад +1

      @HVMS, Hello, yes, the DOF units are worth buying, especially the H6 model.
      You don’t need a lot of drastic movements in flight simulators to feel motion. Small movements are enough. However, you can turn the all of the motion axis up more to make the movements more extreme. You use the SimRacingStudio app to adjust the movements.
      You should get the H6 or P6 over the 3 axis units since you’re into flying. Flying involves all 6 degrees of freedom.
      You can watch my other video here which shows the chair moving a lot due to extreme turbulence. At the 20:15 mark is when I start to encounter the turbulence.

    Hi, my question is about the ATC program called pilot edge. Does it interfere with towered airports since you have to make calls like when you are down wind (going on memory from when my father flew his 172)?
    I ask this as they might be expecting you on their radar like in a big airport for example. And if you’re talking to them it might take away their attention.
    Great video and explanation of your system. This is the platform that I want in the future, and the way you present it this video is easily understood and the transcript is invaluable.

      @Stephen Gomes, Thank you very much, I appreciate it.
      With Pilotedge, the controllers are working both VFR and IFR traffic. Just like in real life, they see you and they’re giving you heading instructions if you’re approaching the airport.
      You can also ask for VFR flight following just like in real life.
      Pilotedge is so realistic, I learned how to talk to ATC before I began my flight training. Once I started my flight training, my instructor never had to teach me how to talk to ATC.

      @ Ben S, it’s only jerky because no one was in the chair. It’s pretty smooth when flying, however you can feel slight gear lash from the motors.

But I am waiting answer from the DOFR that is it possible to buy the H2 with the SFU itself, save some money by leaving out the conventional gear drives (otherwise it is 200 extra for each motor, wasting the unused gear drives then....).

Question: what is the motion platform doing? It SHOULD be doing... nothing, since the force vector I'm experiencing is straight down through the floor of the aircraft. I'm on the fence getting one at this point, there was one review in particular who was familiar with many motion simulators and such and he mentioned in his review that there was some slop and a slight bit of lag of response between how responsive it moves compared to what your seeing. I was wondering if you experienced or noticed any lag between the movement and what you are seeing in the VR headset from an honest viewpoint. Considering this other guy is comparing other motion systems, I understand it's fair his analysis is based on comparing apples to apples so given that obviously it would be more critical than others who haven't which is a fair point. I just would like to know if you notice anything and if it bothers you at all.
    Also another note, this guy is testing the limits of the system doing the who racing thing response time is very important vs. flight not so much.

      @Dr. No, I don’t have any lag between the motion chair and my vr headset. This chair is very responsive.
      There is an upgrade kit that smooths out some of the slop. It’s called an SFU upgrade.

      @@LeonardBrownArtbyLeonard that's awesome and good to know thanks for responding, I'll look into the SFU as well.

    Mate.. Do yourself a huge favor and get rid of the cheap Logitech yoke and get a Brunner force feedback yoke. Your setup in this video is like a Ferrari with bicycle wheels.

      @Gobsworn, LOL! Thanks for your critique. I’ve had this yoke for about 2 years now. I’ll replace it when it breaks.😂 I’ll check out the Brunner yoke that you mentioned though. Thanks for watching!

    sorry to point out that you move your head way too much and it's not very realistic

      @hammer string, have you ever flown in the cockpit of a real airplane in vfr conditions? Part of the FAA regulations require you to keep looking out constantly for other traffic.

      They said the same thing about treadmills. "They" being people who could really use a few hours on a treadmill.

      @Cornelia Edgerton, you do know that using a simulator helps a pilot stay proficient.

      You're a jackass. Commercial pilots don't own their airplanes, and guess what they train on...
