Sometimes i pull up these youtube videos thinking "what can someone teach me about the fundamentals that I don't already know?" And here you go, teaching me something new about the trigger press. This makes a lot of sense. I can't wait to try out this method, I bet it will clean up my accuracy at speed.
Hot damn!!!! Thank you so much! I’ve been asking people for so long about my trigger press and everyone talked about my grip. You just explained AND showed me how important my trigger press is. I tried it with my Mantis and I see the difference. Thanks again John.
Thanks John. One of your best foundational training vids. Isolating the right muscles and relaxing everything else are typically keys to speed and consistency. Things I personally need to work more on. Just have never seen it explained this way.
This was AMAZING! A co-mantis-facebook user pointed me to this channel and this video was life-altering! :) Seriously - I really focused on this finger motion and got my first >95% scores EVER! Thank you so very much!!
Severed my FDP tendon just below the DIP joint last February doing yard work. I had surgery to repair it but, I will probably never have full movement in my trigger finger again. It's frustrating, aches a lot after dryfire sessions but, I am determined to improve my trigger finger "skills". I appreciate you getting into the science of the trigger press. A lot of good information in that video. Thanks for sharing John. Be safe! Randy

Oh absolutely. We have to work recoil, and recoil comes from proper grip. But that's a separate lesson and you don't need recoil to work on proper trigger mechanics. In fact it might hinder learning.

How did you train your finger to bend like that? I cant seem to stop the curl.
Using the flashlight. Put the pad of your finger on it. (you can use a tube of chapstick, for that matter) Flatten your finger on it and press.
I’ve been walking around all day practicing that trigger press (with no gun). People probably think I have a tick.
This is a Rener Gracie trigger finger breakdown!
Can you or should you dry fire a shotgun? I keep hearing about whether or not it should be done.
Any modern centerfire firearm can be dry fired.
