  • A short video of exploring the Olympic Peninsula in late January in search of snow. My buddy tagged along for a bit in his 2012 JKUR on 40's. Unfortunately we've had a very mild winter here in the PNW this year, and the snow was sparse. Regardless, it had been a hot minute since I had gone out in the TJ for a drive in the woods, and it was relaxing. The Pacific Northwest stays very green this time of year; it's awesome to have so much color whereas some other parts of the country (the Midwest) looks dead & brown in the winter months. I'm very grateful to live in the upper lefthand corner of the U.S.

I have a 2001 TJ, it’s lifted 5” on 35’s. It’s fun to drive but I’ve had a real axle come out going the interstate, I just slid to a stop on the side of the interstate(I got luck) had that repaired. 2 years later the rear driver side bearing went out. I replace both sides. Now I have it taken down to replace the front hub assemblies. Those 35’s are hell on these Jeeps. Then I see this video, and I think to my self and say I should rip out the 5” lift put a 2” on and run 32” tires all day. I have a winch and recovery tools, my Jeep on 32” tires would probably take me every where I really need to go. Sure would be cheaper then swapping out for chromoly axles and having to regear it as I plan to do. Buddy you have one sharp TJ!

Yup, unless it’s a strictly rock crawling buggy, you don’t need 35’s, 37’s, etc. I daily my TJ, so 33’s are perfect for that and what I do off road. I do need to get sliders, some underbelly protection and especially lockers. I did just put 3” springs in, and I’m finally happy with the stance.

Yeah I agree, here in Alabama it’s mainly red clay mud. My wife would definitely rather pay for 32s over 35s.

    Love the video
be careful pulling the log with the winch like that. the winch is not designed to be used like this. its either pulling or holding a load using the gears.
also I would advise you to change the roof rack mounting in the rear from the chassis to the body. They way its attached now will cause stress to front and rear mounting points as you are attaching the body to the frame and with twists it will cause stress.

Yeah, it was a one time thing. I recently got a new front bumper put on with shackle mounts, so I’ll be using that for tugging in the future.
As for the roof rack, that’s the way it’s designed. It’s a cheap Smittybilt, so I wasn’t expecting much. I would much prefer to get a Gobi rack.
