Hardest position: Bench specialist
trust me bro i know from experience your throat starts to hurt sooo bad from screaming so much
lol I love left bench!
@@estheroffringa2720bruh I’m middle water boy
it's real😂😂😂
@@vortx6159thats so real bro
As an outside hitter, I have to disagree... Setter is the hardest. If I mess up or have a bad day, there are about 4 other attackers on the court. If the setter has a bad day that's it. Also, when I hit, I just need to focus on the opponents. When you set, you need to watch your opponents, your team, and keep the preferences and strengths of your attackers in mind!
shutup kid. outside is harder
Yeah when all the Liberos or setters get hurt in a tournament you’re done
Agree - influencers say things that don’t mean much. Setter is the boss, the playmaker … and requires so much accuracy and techniques.
setting is easy, all backrow players do is make their job easier and if a front row makes a mistake, it's on them not the setter
@@axon844 lol - says no one ever. Clearly you don’t know, haven’t watched or played volleyball.
Well yes, us liberos dont really have as many functions besides defense and serve receive… BUT if we include the mental part of the game, i think liberos and setters are side by side the hardest positions on volleyball! An outside hitter always has the opportunity to redeem a bad pass with a good attack, but libs and setters only get one atribution to show they are good at what they do, and mentally that can break us when we fail even once 😢
christian is a libero (and setter) yk?
i think every position has its own mental challenge, middle can struggle with quite few sets or a good hitter as well
I'd put liberos ahead of middles.
Liberos have to read offenses too.
Because libero is also one of the most competitive positions, they don't have to be tall, a lot of people can compete for that position.
A lot of middle school kids that were good at a lot of positions in middle school can only play libero in high school.
If there are 100 kids that want to play, there may be 20 kids that are tall enough to be Pins or middles so you aren't really choosing from 100 kids, you are choosing from the 20 tall kids.
Even setters get a lot of tactical flexibility if they are taller. You can jumpset bad passes near the net and dump the ball better with height.
At least 50 or 60 or the kids out of that 100 are really only tall enough to play libero so you can demand more skill from your libero, there is simply more competition for that position.
You can thank the clowns in charge of the rules for that limit. They could have just as easily given the libero substitution leniency to the back row specialist position instead of needlessly creating a position. That way you could still overhand pass in the front row and do back row attacks.

@9:16 Trust, the position of Volley"ball" is the hardest... you're just getting tossed and hit for the entire game
Yeah it’s kinda like the position of foot”ball” in football/soccer
This is solid list. I think top 3 is right. Maybe 2 and 1 are interchangeable but I agree with this list and the reasonings.
I haven't had the opportunity to play volleyball until now at 18 because of covid and the place where I live has no opportunities. Honestly, the city's Men's club and my university's team aren't so good either. I probably would have left the sport behind but after watching your videos I've been inspired to give it absolutely everything I have and I haven't been able to stop watching volleyball content and matches. Thanks a lot.
Most valuable to the team, highest to lowest.
1. Setter
2. M.H.
3. Libero. Who serves.
4. O.s.
5. R.s.
6. Ds.
7. Utility player.
8. Serving specialist.
My rational. A setter is like the qb. Great sets, seeing weaknesses and covering along with serving.
MH work the hardest and can dominate with blocking & hit in different areas.
Libero passes and digs always moving to keep the ball a live. A team that can't well won't win many matches. A libero that can serve well is a bonus.
OS usually plays all around. Probably the best overall athlete on the floor especially if they can play all around and serve very well.
RS. need to block the best os hitters & helps the MB. They have to have great hands to help set if needed. Rs don't always get the best sets so they have to make more adjustments.
Ds. A bonus if they are almost as good as the libero.
Utility player can play multiple positions if someone is struggling.
With great passing = setting = hitting.
Defense with blocking and digging keeps the play a live. Teams that eliminate errors also win more matches. Everything starts with the pass, set & hit. Then defense for blocking & digging. Cheers.
Most valuable for the Team, highest to lowest (on higher lvl)
1. Outsite hitter
2. Setter
3. Right side hitter
4. Libero
5. Middle Block
Scoring is the most importent part of Volleyball, that the reason why offence positions (O. & S.) are more importent than defence positions (MB / L). Moreover MB and L dont have as much playtime as the other positions. The better Team with the best outside hitter usually wins. Thats the reasons they get paid the most.
Payment= value for the time. So my ranking is based on average salary in pros. You could switch between R.H. and S. And me personally things that MB just earn more than liberos is because they are rare. Middle Block is the role with the least impact in the game on average.
The libero isnt important fr
I would agree 100% with your ranking if it was the ranking of the most crucial positions in a team.
The most difficult position in my opinion is middle blocker. This is a very demanding position with very few candidates. Alone the height needed is a very restraining element. Then a lot of middle blcokers hate their position because they attack less than the others and get thrashed if they miss a read. You can find a lot of outside hitters but finding a good middle blocker is really next level.
I personally would put Outside at 3, Middle at 2 and Setter at the Hardest.
I am a Middle and what I think is a big point of making it harder is that it is very exhausting!
Youre Jumping the whole rally, all the time!
Yes of course you get your break with the Libero, but if you ever played it you will see how exhausting it really is!
That’s my opinion as well
Setting ain't that hard
@@BigLogeyIf your recievers are good than the skill setting itself is maybo not to hard. But figuring out where the weakest spot there enemys is and outplay them is super hard!
@@BigLogey I’m pretty confident u can’t play volleyball for real
I do play volleyball I’m a Libero and serve receive a lot
I am a middle and I thank u for the understanding of the difficulty of our role
I was a setter in HS D3, I was injured and had to sub in the backup setter… we almost lost against the worst school😭 mind you we won league champs undefeated😭 I got mvp for the whole season bc I DIDNT PLAY THAT GAME and my coach/team seen the worth in me😂
i hate being a middle.
I play libero and one game I played middle ... My knees were hurtin
Middle is especially the hardest position outside of the court. You need so much more physique and stamina- Most people don't even know that middles often needs one entire more day to rest from game days. As for the "reading" ability: It gets good when the middle is allrounded and understands every other position and how it behaves. (often by playing it a while too)
guys i have a lil story: so i am a homeschooler and we are playing in a tournament with public schools this weekend. We are a pretty good team and i think we will do okayish, but i personally want to make the all tournament team just to get a homeschooler up there. the thing is, in order to do that i need to be specifically recognized by other head coaches. i played super well at my game yesterday even though we lost, so i think i can do it. ive been working super hard all week and i am like 100% set on it happening. but now im thinking about it and i see how unlikely my odds are. although i know the lady running the tournament(and a head coach) i wonder if i talk to her just to say hi, do you remember me, she might make a subconscious mental note of me and see how well im playing compared to when she was my coach. sorry for the random rant its just that none of my other friends play vb lol so i got YOU GUYS :D
edit: I didn't make it but considering the amount of girls there it makes sense. half the girls on the team were on the home team so idk but we got in the silver bracket and ended 7th/16 😁
Keep trying man! I'd say try have a little and quick conversation or tell her your goals so that she's conscious of them. I'm sure you can do it.
I'm homeschooled too and I'm playing with the high school varsity team! I'm actually in eighth grade, but I play with varsity because the coach wants me to be their middle (I played MB for club) and I can get up pretty high (the coach says she sees lots of potential in me? eek-). I think its pretty awesome you're putting yourself out there so us homeschoolers can get more recognition! go girl!!
@@pinkkstay AWESOME :DD
may i ask how tall you are? bc that is just a normal question for vb players lol
@@taylorwolfram3871 I'm 5'7 1/2! It's not super tall for a volleyball player but I am only 13 years old hhh
@@taylorwolfram3871 I'm 5'7 1/2 (and 13 years old)
Well if difficulty is classified by whatever position makes the most mistakes the obvious pick is serving specialist
beach volleyball is a great way to access overall volleyball/athletic ability and middles are well represented on the sand. Their overall skills are underutilized often indoor because it's more a "specialist" sport. Responsibilities are spread out over 6 positions but on the beach it's 2. Understand the reasoning for this list but suggesting people don't underestimate the middle's ability. Figure out how to maximize their potential. Have a great season! Cheers
Serve specialist is hardest role. You get rotated in just to net the ball on a jump serve after warming up the bench then get benched again.
My 6’4” daughter plays MB for college team. She also sets the ball, even back sets, plays back row and defends well ,and has a great consistent serve!!!! Hardest position and best player all around ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Dang I so agree with you that volleyball is the hardest ball game.
As a Setter/Middle I go agree Setting is much harder than serve receive or even hitting but middle being my secondary position it’s not that hard reading attacks at time can be when the opponent has a crafty setter but usually blocking is not the hard thing
as someone who has played every position except setter at some point (this is just my personal ranking)
hardest: middle blocker
easiest: right-side hitter
Hey Pme really like ur vids but can u please bring back the day in the life of a volleyball player. I love this vids . But anyways love ur vids and keep going ❤
As a setter I would have to say opposite cause sometimes I forget about them 😅
We’re so used to being the opposite we don’t think about the other one 😂
I have a higher respect for middle. I’m short and I once played middle for a whole season (never been tall btw) hated it. Middles have my respect
I think if we were looking percentile wise all the positions are just as hard as each other, and the reason being, the easier the skill you specialize in, the harder it is to truly stand out and be the top .1% of whatever position that is. Yeah right side might have the “easiest” responsibilities, but that means if you want to stand out to a recruiter, you better be top .1% in hitting, blocking, and defense, but if you want to stand out as an outside you can get away with being the top 1% in all skills (except for setting)
That's why regardless of what position you are, you should always maintain a skillset in the fundamentals, which the two base ones are: serving and forearm passing. You need nothing else to 'play' a game of volleyball. All the advanced skills will fall in place when those two are sound.
Hardest positions from hard to easy:
1. Setter
2. Libero
3. Middle
4. Outside
5. Opposite
Numbers 2 to 4 are up to discussion in my opinion, those are pretty much on the same level of difficulty (and all of them are more leaning towards number 2 than towards number 4. I hope you get what i am trying to say)
Setter ist the hardest, because you have to make the plays to make your attackers look good. Bad receive? Your problem. Attackers constantly shutting off their brains and pounding the ball into the block (but at least with 120 km/h)? You gotta solve that and get your attackers to not have a closed double block in front of them. You are the playmaker and have to make all the parts of your team work together, even if one of them is not performing on the needed level this day.
I hate being middle wish I could just hit outside for once.😭
go right side its not that different and way more fun in attack then left side i think
@@PSE_PSEI had to transition from a middle to a right side and it was horrible, especially running a 6-2 rotation and they are not very similar, however I transitioned to an outside a year ago (back to a middle now) but being an outside was slightly similar especially with the hitting and blocking portion, unless you are good at passing I would just stay a middle if you know the rotation by heart.
@@trump2good Jee in a 6-2 it’s much harder but as a pure Right Side in a 6-1 it’s pretty easy if you can hit. But yea every coach balances his system different ig so
@@PSE_PSE yeah my main skills are hitting and blocking but I mean it’s different for everyone because no position is exactly the same
@@trump2good yeah, I mean I play in Germany and our Right Side is supposed to be a (tall) power hitter and blocker and our outside players are smaller and more skillful and not so important in direct attacks. Our Right side also does not receive etc. We’re not that balanced as well and our left side mainly keeps the ball rolling and plays safe so maybe your coach interprets the role a bit different. It’s nothing wrong with being a tall front row outside. They would help me a bit more in blocking then our outside players do…
On the highest level outside hitter might be more difficult than middle. On lower levels middles take the cake. They have the least amount of time to respond to sets due to their proximity to the setter. You need eyes in your back cause the ball goes around you. And often if the setter can’t set the middle needs to take over cause it’s rare the middle can be set from a bad position. You need to run as fast as ball can fly to block and are part of every block so no breaks during a rally.
(played both middle and outside hitter)
i play lib for victoria in nationals in australia and I would say it is one of the hardest positions
Yeah as a middle I agree. You’re covering our mistakes. Huge respects to you
I would love to see a skill tierlist
As a middle this is one hundred percent true I do play back row tho.
Yo bro your almost at 250k keep it up
I tried trying out for middle blocker and here I am at the path of opposite
This is actually pretty great because for me it's a higher opportunity than middle for me
I played libero 2 years ago and 1 year ago I was a setter and now I can be an opposite in my new highschool team
If you become an opposite, still learn how to hit quicks, especially back ones.
Then your team can run double quicks which can be a nightmare for opposing blocks.
Can you please talk about every single position in separated videos 🐳
keep up the good content 👍
Good takes PME, Good takes👍
Asa libero myself, Personally i think setter is hardest followed by libero and then O.H, Middle etc
Trust me bro ,When the setter or libero Gets injured in a tournament then it's Game over
I’ve never played volleyball before but just finished my second tryout with my school team and with my last tryout coming tomorrow I wanted to thank ishikawa, haikyuu and PME for teaching me everything about volleyball, also got any tips?
tell me if you get in, some tips are when receiving guied the ball with your shoulders keep a steady platform and bend your knees when recieving
Literally the same, I'm having my first social/practice session on Saturday and then first tryout two days after. Ishikawa, haikyuu and PME are lifesavers fr.
@@koldmasala20 nice, my first tryouts arent untill sept 19 and 20
@@YoMegaStar69 yeah I got cut. The coach wanted 12 and I was in the top 20. Honestly though I had really good receives and serves. However as a middle blocker ig my spikes weren’t good enough so I got cut. Unfortunate but I’m pretty happy with how I played

Not trying to be that one person but volleyball may be a hard sport but basketball and football are harder because, in volleyball the opponent is on the other side of the net, you guys don't make contact with each other. Meanwhile in basketball and football they push amd run. They have to make sure the opponent isn't near them and more. (No hate, I love volleyball myself)
9:12 I want to be a volleyball too sometimes 🫡🙏✋🏼😔
I play half setter half libero 🗿
Setter got to be the hardest position
You should make another viewer highlights video
you should do another highlight video because I have 1
I'd still love to know why the powers that be couldn't have just given the defensive specialist the substitution leniency that's given to the libero, which would have made the libero position needless. That position seems to have been created by a committee that should not have been given power over a lemonade stand, let alone volleyball-wide rule changes.
Once upon a time libero wasn't a thing; once you subbed in you could only play that spot in the rotation. But there weren't enough defensive specialists to sub in for weak back row players so the libero was created to make the game more exciting. Now you're asking for a second libero? That seems like a little much.
1:16 wild voice crack
using this to learn each position
I’d say the libero and middle deserve a tie! When you’re up against incredible hitters and servers like Ishikawa and Nishida, it’s a whole different ball game. Trust me, both the MD and libero will be constantly under fire, with the MD trying to block Nishida who has a vertical jump of 1.05m and the libero trying to pick up attacks that 90% escape the block anyway. And don’t forget, being a libero requires a fast mind. Sometimes, u don't think u just do. Imagine a ball coming at about 150km/hr ,u don't even have the time to say "OMG, what should i do, should I backpedal, should I dive, or can I even reach it?
Even though the libero doesn't attack like MD, sometimes the best offense is defense. 😉😂.
to all my other liberos out there, u guys deserve an award for being mentally tough (i once i got hit in the face, in front of my whole school) and being the best passer
DS SHOULD BE TOP 5
Daughter is Outside Hitter and my daughter said Setter for her is the hardest.
I have a question for everyone as a middle are you supposed to do a full arm swing?
i play outside hitter and im in 7th grade rn and i can tell u so many ppl have told me that its so easy but its not😅
Idk, my friends say left bench is the hardest
Nishida is not a serving specialist
We know

Nah dude middle and setter are the 2 hardest positions to play. You have to have more court awareness in these positions than you do as an outside. Also middle is just exhausting with the amount of blocking responsibility.
what about blocking specialist
why do I see comments from months ago and it says the video came out 30 seconds ago
As setter my volleyball team are not too good but we are good and we only have one positions and is Setter that all I am setter and one of high school girl is setter, let me tell you my volleyball team middle school and high school our school is small, and I almost not be setter because I am not doing good, is make me so mad so I work so hard for my team (sorry if my grammar is bad)
