- If there's one thing every RUclipsr has to own, it's the Hummer H2, and I found the perfect example. This 2003 Hummer H2 has almost 300,000 miles, tons of mods, and it's sitting on chrome 20's. It screams Hummer, VERY NICE.

If you spray the belt with brake clean as it's running you can hear the squeal change if it's the belt causing it.
Reason you don't hear belt squeal much anymore is new cars have spring belt tensioners - older cars required bolts to tension the belt, then bolt down the tensioner pulley. Getting it tensioned right was an art, plus bolts loosened from use. I always struggled getting belts properly tensioned before the nice spring tensioners.
When you pivoted to doing some boat videos, I know I said some inflammatory things to you and I apologize. You're literally one of my favorite channels on here and I sincerely apologize for what I said. I will support you in any way possible, and will now be buying from the store as penance for my sins. Please keep doing what you do, regardless of what idiots like me say, or what type of vehicle you choose to work on.
Respect! God bless!
When I get a noisy belt of any type I use a couple drops of Dawn dish soap. Let it run a couple minutes and if still noisy a couple more drops. I've seen u tubers use stick deodorant but I haven't.
I always heard Dove soap works

Dude you been losing sleep over the boat vid wasn't that like r yrs ago on what's his names driveway ... Was like maybe one other boat ep I can think of
You’re fortunate and I couldn’t be happier for you . I am glad it was something simple. After the 1st video, I was thinking it was something really serious. Is it ready to go or more work ahead?
GM vehicles that come stock with ac converters also have high output alternators. The more load on the alternator the harder it is on the belts. If you pull the fuse for some of your electrical auxiliary plugs and put in a new battery the belt will last for a couple of years. On my truck I finally found a fixed tensioner pulley that fit and used a bar to pry the alternator tight against the belt. 2 years and no problems yet.
I think the rattle is the driver side rear lens protector. I noticed it on your last video how it didn't seem secure when you were showing the H2. It might not be the only rattle, but it appeared to be a big one
JR, a solid (and cheap) fix for the intake manifold is to patch it with Shoo Goo. Clean it with brake clean, apply the Shoo Goo and let it cure. It'll be there forever, and it stays flexible. You can 'mold' it with masking tape, which peels off easily after curing.
E6000 shoe glue works good, and I’ve even used super glue in a pinch but it’s not as flexible so be careful putting your repaired intake tube back on.
That’s not a good fix for Jr. It sounds like it requires WAITING for it to cure, something he’s not good at! 🤣
I think a major cause of the rear clunk is the aftermarket tire carrier. It would be a lift, but I’d be tempted to take that off and drive around some.
Glad you had two easy wins lately. Everybody deserves a simpler fix every now and then.
Thank you, as always ~ Chuck
Had the exact color and year H2 and spent so much time chasing a parasitic drain and eventually kicked it down the road. Mine also had a manifold bolt break in the same spot its not hard to get to but its a pain to get anything on it especially a socket because of the firewall.
Fix the exhaust manifold leak correctly. You can usually back the broken stud out with a pair of vice grips and that side of the motor is pretty easy to get to
It gets expensive. Last one I did: I extracted 6 broken bolts, plug wire ends broke off on a few, both manifolds were warped, oil fill tube was so rusted it needed to be replaced.
I personally would try one of those Dorman cheaters first.
Yep, I've got a cheater on one of mine. Works just fine.
I had the same thing on a trailblazer. Just covered in belt dressing and sticky. Brake cleaned it and it was fine after that. Same exact situation lol.
I'm super glad you got this H2!!!! I am testing new tabs on the door panels today. The squeak and crack have me going slightly crazy lol 🤪🤣
303 protectant will stop those belt squeaks with no build up. Works every time and lasts a long time and it wont harm your belt.I have used it for years.
Always the small things that get ya in the end! Happy Tuesday John !
Always is! 😂
My Dart I broke the back manifold bolt on the drivers side just like that, permanent exhaust leak after that. They used special sleeved bolts on the early 340 exhaust manifolds on the passenger side too and for years those were made of unobtainaium and we used to scour swap meets trying to find good ones till someone made exact copies years later. I have a set stashed for my 318 I put those performance manifolds on.
Of subject, but did you sell the tiny resort? That was a cool project, no matter how it concluded. Also, how is the new house coming along? Back to the video, it’s a nice looking Hummer, my last squeal on my Caprice PPV 6.0 was actually a tensioner, but I always figure if you have to spray a belt, it’s probably time to replace it anyways
I have had a rash of loud belts in the last few years. The cheap belts from the parts store can just squeak right out of the box. It's as if the ribs aren't made correct. The last one I had was on a 2005 Suburban and sounded identical.
I use the Gates belts. They seem to have a bunch of extra material in the grooves that make them quiet.
Right on time bedtime video
Funny you are talking about belt tensioners. Mine is just starting to fail at 261k miles. Time to hit up Rockauto...
First upgrade you need to do if you ever plan on wheeling it, is upgraded tie rods.
I repaired both sides of exhaust manifolds bolts on my H2. If you remove the hood it will make life so much easier.
I bought a car with a slipping transmission but it couldn't do it warm. Only when cold. The seller was real quick to want to drive it to me to save my time. I thought they were being nice but really they wanted to warm the car up before i drove it
To fix the exhaust leak you can remove the fender liner and have direct access to the exhaust bolts
They should have offered the H2 with the 6.6 Duramax Diesel as an option. Betting they would have been more successful and would have sold more.
Agreed
Is that a tear or just random food drippage on the back seat headrest? 8:55 I keep wanting to see it get cleaned off. Stuff like that on interior always seems easy to do, yet some people (previous owner) just don't care anymore. I know there is a list a mile long for this vehicle to take care of.
Good Evening John Ross
Hey Douglas! 🍻
Older cars at least in the UK had manually set belt tension.
I used belt dressing once. Never again, made the noise even worse! Maybe it works on a v-belt, but certainly not on a serpentine belt.
You need to look at how deep the grooves on the belt are it might not have any cracks but if the grooves are worn really deep it will squeak
Valve covers leaking?
Guess RUclips didn’t like my joke lol. Either way, love the H2 content lol
As someone who has offroaded their very desirable 08 h2 I can attest to the strength of that skid plate😂
I previously had an awful screeching noise every time I drove my car and once I got divorced it stopped 😅
Had that squeak on my 04 Silverado. It was the belt.
"It's pretty uncommon to find vehicles with bad belt tensioners."......I invite you to come to Ohio. This place is a torture chamber for cars.
Please tell me you are not stripping the Z06?
Surprised it wasn't the harmonic balancer, LS engines love to go through those
Sticky belt. That was actually very interesting.
I always look at these...but I can't justify the gas mileage lol. I'd Cummins swap one for sure though 😆
Another easy fix is coming soon, but what's next after the intake? Exhaust or rattle elimination?
Maybe you should tighten up the loose screw on the alternator?
There is no loose bolt on the alternator, the pinch bolt always sits out like that 🍻
I really wasn't expecting the belt on this
After you troubleshot the equinox and couldn't figure out what it was and it turned out just to be bad fuel I think that's the first thing you should do every time you troubleshoot a vehicle so maybe it's the fuel in the Hummer😂😂
Sorry to see them parting out the Z06.
I had a car that you had to pull an engine mount to change the main belt. It died for other reasons, before the belt gave out.
I "fixed" the intake boot on an AUDI fox I got for 50 bucks years ago with duct tape. Fixed enough to get it home anyways.
Parting out the C5? 😢
IDK, I feel pretty embarrassed having to drive an ICE vehicle at all. Long live the EV revolution!! For some reason I still enjoy watching all of these ICE only problems with cars. I need to replace the gas tank in my Miata and have a replacement ready to go in but I just keep asking my self why I don't just make it an EV.
Also is Eric working for you full time now ??
Eric and I co-own Go Recyclers 🍻
I have a relatively new RUclips channel and I keep thinking of ideas for different projects then I watch your channel and it’s like your always a week ahead of me like you read my mind 🤣. I will say I wanted a yellow or red gas guzzler though lol
This should be a good one!
An easy one but also something I never really cover because it's simple 🍻
why does it sound like it has a ford and chevy chime?
Success!!
Surprised that this thing doesn't have the wiper motor electrical issue yet?
You should remove the interior and tighten all the loose stuff and make it not rattle over bumps
Note to self: order new belts for my 05 Sierra right now.
ah, all that squeaking out on the roads. Those were the days.
You don't change a belt- you carry a spare belt in the car with the correct socket and cheap wrench to change it.
I vote hood hood props as the most annoying and easiest thing to fix.
oh man, please clean all that gunk on the engine.... that's the stuff of nightmares haha
Sounds like a water pump squeeking. The only reason I say that Is because I went through that same thing.
I'm probably wrong but it sounded like the couple I had to do.
Yukon Denali
Video approved, plenty of squealing no gravity, click.
A laser thermometer might tell what bearing is squeaking.
my truck will squeek every belt I put on it except the ones the Continental Elite multi v belt
Are you selling this ?
Yeah, shoot me an email if you want it (watchjrgo at gmail)
@@WatchJRGoI sent you the email did you get it ?
Let Scotty drive 😁
Love to get a house update
Those belts will make noise if the direction is changed
do as thou wilt shall be the whole of the law~ alister crowley
Wish they came with a ladder to fix under the hood
I think the real reason you don't hear those things these days, is everything is electronic. Powersteering- electric
Waterpump - electric
And some cars now don't have tensioners, using stretch fit belts
I love this too... EPS made the world a better place for sure! 💯
I want one now
Dude. You need a topside creeper. Seriously.
hello jr
I’d fix that car up real nice and keep it. Could be a fun car u for.
👍
Hey
🥇 boom!
@@WatchJRGoSweet!!!
A failed belt tensioner killed my Volvo.
It's never the belt and it's never duck, spellcheck.
CLEAN THE BELT AND APPLY DIE ELECTRIC GREASE TO THE BELT
I'm skeptical , squeak back in 5,4,3...
You're naive or lazy. It's not a bad vehicle. Super easy to fix and upgrade. Highly collectible. These will skyrocket in price over the next 5-10 years. Granted '08-'09 are the most desirable because of the better engine, transmission, and interior. BTW, there is an electric fan conversion available. A basic squeak. You're overcomplicating basic maintenance issues. It's a 21+ year old vehicle, dude.
Trade you my 2002 ford F150 supercrew 4.6 triton for that hummer
I thought you were done with all the cheap garbage vehicles?
Whoever is watching this video, I hope this day will be a great day.😇
Oil leaking 💀
😅😅😅
Let's gooooooo
Yeah buddy! 🍻

Hi
🥉 hey Andrew!
You on holiday mate?😢
So once again, you threw parts at a vehicle without properly diagnosing it and wasted money. The guy that talks trash about mechanics doing that.
I literally walked out to the other truck I'm scrapping and grabbed 2 disposable parts for $0 😂😂😂😂
@WatchJRGo you are missing the point. I've heard you talk smack on mechanics for not diagnosing stuff properly before throwing parts at a car and not fixing it, yet here you are doing the same thing with the hummer and the equinox. I'm just asking you to stop talking smack about mechanics especially if you are doing the same thing.
Hey
