It's an incredible machine. An absolute packaging marvel the Volt. How they packaged so much so efficiently and yet it's incredibly light for everything it has... Love the Volt so much.
It's like this channel is trying to figure out it's true self or something. Content is all over the place, I build cars, I'm done with cars, now I'm a chop shop, now I remodel houses, oops sorry I mean rebuild cars. What do you mean? I never parted cars out.................... It's all over the place but here I am watching........
SAME. I've been a fan since back in the day when he did vlogs featuring the R8, and he always had "Amberghini" on the channel. Then he eventually got the biggest and baddest shop on RUclips. Then on to the Mini Resort, and then old old electronics, now this. Regardless, I love John Ross' content. He can made a video about renovation of a house or shop, doing drywall, plumbing flooring, ir electrical. Or if its rebuilding/ flipping a vehicle, fixing an ice cream machine, talking about a 1980's VCR or Camcorder, or simply a vlog of his adventures of going to pick up an auction vehicle. Regardless, I'm a die hard fan, and absolutely HOOKED on his content. Keep up the awesome content John Ross, and we will keep watching and liking the videos. 👍👍
This channel is the best, he posts very regularly and has such a variety of things to share. I am always excited to see a new video show up. Yes cars are at the heart, but fixing things is what drives him.
Always love seeing my (same color/trim/year) car on your show! The last vid about the misfire is fantastic. Mine doesn't get much engine use, so after a while of not running, it will misfire before running smoothly again - sometimes throwing a misfire code. Just be ready for a possible BECM issue if it hasn't happened yet. Fortunately GM extended the BECM warranty for 2017's to 15 years! And I found a "hack" to keep my Volt running on battery, even with a flaky BECM while I waited for GM to get the part - it was by turning ON the headlights while driving! Crazy huh? Turns out that my failing BECM was super sensitive to low 12v rail voltages. Anything below 12.7v and the BECM would glitch out and I'd have to reset by disconnecting the 12v neg battery lead.. What I found was that turning ON the headlights forces the HV->12v charger to operate and would keep the 12v rail up above 13v where the BECM was still happy. Hoping if it ever happens to you that knowing this trick will at least get you home! BTW, I've not heard of a single problem with a replaced BECM. Seemed some originals, especially 2017's were defective and probably had bad solder joints, which would explain why the higher voltage could get past extra resistance in a flaky joint. The replacement process requires dropping the traction battery, so may as well just let a dealer do it under warranty - and don't let the dealership try to make you pay! Get on the Facebook Chevy Volt 2.0 forums and someone will direct you to the TSB and the updated warranty info. Thanks again for all the great vids!!
thanks for the tip! i was litterally removing the negative on the 12v battery every time.... so annoying! i had the becm"updated" and its been fine since......
Will they pre-emptively replace it for you under warranty or does it need to break first? Not particularly worried as I have a lot of time to go on mine but just wondering
This exact same issue happened in my 2007 Mazda 3 Sedan. Turns out that there was some sort of growth inside the washer bottle. My fault, I was always just using straight water and not mixing it with any washer concentrate. Had to completely flush out the washer bottle and needed a new pump too.
Well you got to fix the last things pissing you off, always nice to get that last thing fixed. Had to do it to the PT Cruiser but luckily it was just a broken squirter on the passenger side and I got a set cheap. Unfortunately the hood insulation was soaked but it slowly dried out and the squirters work for my Charger too👍
I do wish people would buy more sedans and even coupes. I have an SUV too, but even your little EV is more interesting to look at than most (not all) SUVs.
I wouldn’t have been surprised by the fuse given the problem description of fluid weakly puddles instead of spraying. Logic: The pump was barely pumping, causing the puddle. The energy that was supposed to be turning it could only escape as heat. Heat, increases resistance, increasing heat, increasing resistance… meaning thermal runaway. That run-away condition results in a high current, blowing the fuse.
I had the same issue. I had a vehicle that I kept so clean I didn’t use the washer fluid for years. Eventually the fluid actually formed a gel layer at the bottom of the tank that was too thick for the pump to move… cleaned out and reinstalled and golden.
Reminds me I need to put a new pump in my 2020 charger, crazy to me that at 4 years old it needs replaced and apparently is fairly common. My 315,000mile 97 f350 is still on its original washer fluid pump.
Yes.. those pumps should never fail... Years ago my colorblind buddy put the wrong rainx fluid in his vibe's reservoir -he put in the green stuff (summer only), instead of the orange (-30f)- They both looked the same to him... When we pulled the old pumps out, the were both split from the inside out. ( Summer fluid froze in the pump)
What's up Gabe? Solid repair, it seems the windshield washer pump always has the tendency to go bad right out of the blue, especially just after you top off the reservoir with expensive washer fluid.😂
good morning here from Denmark since it's almost 7 in the morning here now it's evening you know? :-). have replaced several of the sprinkler engines on many of the cars I've had together over time. so it happens that they get stuck, they leak inside and the engine gets angry and locks up. so even if you were to get it running again it will lock again soon. so change to a new one, they don't cost a lot of money :-)
I just finished watching another video you made about your previous Volt and the failed bearing. I have a 2018 with 84,000 miles and I started hearing that sawing noise when in gas mode and when accelating. It only lasts about 3 or 4 seconds each time. Have you had the issue with your 2017?
That issue is caused by people adding neat screen wash fluid or Dawn dishwashing fluid instead of pre mixing it before pouring it in. Sinks to the bottom and congeals then blocking the pump.
Any follow up on the volt? I literally have to replace my pump. Also having bad misfire issues but my vehicle does have 111k miles so it might need the spark plugs replaced.
what happens if you warm the inserts up? woulld that solve the problem? what bout "soaking and drying it out for fourtyeight hrs and resemble it once again?
cant understand how such a newer car has so many damn problems. i literally have identical volt, same color and everything. randomly my front driver wheel seizes up the brakes for no reason, i turn it off and let it sit an hour and its like nothing ever happened. driving around brakes smelling and literally smoking is very concerning. i know if im on the highway and i feel like rumbling and my psi in the tire starts going up that the brake seized. something that no1 can figure out why. i had a shift to park error and a BECM problem both were covered under warranty. my biggest worry is the EGR valve issue. now that i see what it takes to clean the egr valve out is absolutely ridiculous! but if you dont keep it clean eventually it will destroy the valve, then the valve is nowhere to be found. used ones costs thousands on ebay. this car has become a sick joke and now i know why gm discontinued it. loaded with problems. i would never buy a chevy again after this one... i still love the volt when it drives good but im afraid of anything going wrong with it. someone on reddit posted a bill for 2300 to replace a radiator. smh...
Hey JR, my Infiniti G35 needs a front air dam similar to the one on your Volt. Infiniti wants crazy money $500 for the OEM air dam and the only aftermarket ones look stupid. How does it attach?
Great to see Gabe show up. Now to get Josh come by.
Gabe's still your best humorous companion. His timing is right on the money.
It's an incredible machine. An absolute packaging marvel the Volt. How they packaged so much so efficiently and yet it's incredibly light for everything it has... Love the Volt so much.
So we go from drywall preparation yesterday to washer fluid today. Makes sense to me I'll watch whatever.

Always a pleasure seeing Gabe!
That ehewwww when the snot shot out of that pump had me dying 😂
Always a pleasure to see a cameo by Gabe! Old days!!

I recently finally fixed a washer fluid issue on my truck and man is it nice to finally have that feature back lol
Of course, You'll flush the mung out of the tank before the new pump goes in.
'Sedimentary, my Dear Watson!'
GABE!!! cameo appearance.
YES! I always like seeing the latest goofy shirt Gabe has on!
2016 Volt best car I ever owned. I should have kept it.
That's interesting. I've never had a windshield washer fluid pump go out on me. That's a part you can't go without.
Good diagnosis, thanks for the video. 👍

Family man Gabe! JRs other brother 🤣😂
I thought they were brothers for the longest time!
Fallout is a great series!
Getting close to 400k. Congratulations
Vash the Stampede shirt for the win.

Washer pumps are very necessary here in dusty, dry west Texas.
Try winters in Western New York state. When the slushy roads make you use a gallon on fluid every 2 days.
Wazaaa Gabe nice you see you back.
Man …if you only had a lift in your shop. 😀
The Ninja is awesome for letting you use his walnut blaster again.
I had the same issue. I had a vehicle that I kept so clean I didn’t use the washer fluid for years. Eventually the fluid actually formed a gel layer at the bottom of the tank that was too thick for the pump to move… cleaned out and reinstalled and golden.

Maybe somebody ran water instead of washer fluid.

jr needs to expand shop and also add garage and office space - he has the space
Missed the chance to call it CorVolt at the end :)
Don't the wipers come on when you activate the washer pump?
Dayum, your driveway is like Cars N Coffee!
They do, but with the arms off you can’t tell 🍻
My washer pump seized up. I chucked it up in the air, and after it landed, it started working 😂
Fallout was amazing. Can't wait for the next season.
Hi Gabe, nice Tri-Gun shirt!
gage wearing a vash t-shirt is peak.
Need more Gabe!
I had the Windshield Washer Pump go bad on my 2001 Jeep Wrangler. Low cost to purchase new pump and easy to replace.
Was nice to see Gabe what does have do?

Good Evening John Ross
20 years ago, I had some bad cheap wiper fluid that started to grow something and clogged the lines.
That issue is caused by people adding neat screen wash fluid or Dawn dishwashing fluid instead of pre mixing it before pouring it in. Sinks to the bottom and congeals then blocking the pump.
Typically its the impeller housing. Folks put stuff other than washer fluid in there, which has antifreeze, and it freezes and cracks the housing.
Thank you.
I think your washer pump has an STD! 😂
Always use washer fluid and not straight water in those things.
How did all that crap get into that pump? WOW!
Where in the heck has Gabe been? He is after all your brother from another mother.
The fallout series was good. Are you still doing the parts recycling business?
Hey JR I am considering purchasing a Plug-In Hybrid. I am looking at used Chevrolet Volts. Do you still think it is a great car?
have you ever had the infotainment screen go dark but the radio works for 20-30 minutes at a time?
John have you been using GM Optikleen for washer fluid? That gunk is puzzling.
Any follow up on the volt? I literally have to replace my pump. Also having bad misfire issues but my vehicle does have 111k miles so it might need the spark plugs replaced.
Hi Gabe!
Gabe is here!
Fallout was purty good
what happens if you warm the inserts up? woulld that solve the problem? what bout "soaking and drying it out for fourtyeight hrs and resemble it once again?
Just having a service main battery lol disconnect problem just hoping it's the 12volter but hey we will see
I told you BLInker fluid!!!
I think it's good for a mix up.
Could try ultrasonic cleaning it. but cutting this is more entertaining.🥳

Is this what happens when you put just regular water in the washer rather than fluid? Is that why it rusted?
Overnight soak in some evaporust might have freed it up but it’s so cheap you’re better off replacing it either way.
Wait, the car had problem after you purchased from Carmax? What no warranty?
Hey JR, my Infiniti G35 needs a front air dam similar to the one on your Volt. Infiniti wants crazy money $500 for the OEM air dam and the only aftermarket ones look stupid. How does it attach?
How much washer fluid does that thing hold??
A random cameo appearance by old man Sanchez!
how the h.e.L.L does washer pump get crudded up ??? should be closed system with washer fluid only... unless leave lid off fills with leafs etc...wtf?
You’d be surprised how many washer pumps fail; it’s more common than you think
Vash the Stampede
Lets get knee deep into a 996 next!
Mine went bad in my car and needed to be replaced but it was covered under warranty.
5:41 that's what she said!
NAPA sells OEM parts at times. Depends on the part!
WOW I'm amazed you have time to watch TV......
I had to watch Fallout 💯
Don't forget to check the blinker fluid. You might be out.
8:31 activate safety squint!
Blinker fluid will do the trick?!!!
Boo, washer pump. Yay, Gabe!
I had a washer bottle full of slime goo once was a pain in the arse
GABE LIVES
A running bandsaw in one hand and the part in the other hand - what could go wrong ? 🙄
The parts could fall on the floor... that's literally how you use a portable bandsaw. Unistrut or conduit in one hand and the other running the saw 🍻
with good wipers window should get clean.
A wild Gabe appears...
If the pump is stuck it would make sense that it blows the fuse.
These pumps always go bad! Consider yourself lucky if you didn't have this problem with your cars.
Goes to show how Gen1 was far simpler made than Gen2. No EGR, easier to access spark plugs, etc.
It is it not a he.
Pal.
Haha
Eye protection Jr next time, please.
you only need the sprayer when you don't have the sprayer
just replace pump- kia hyundai have an issue with them cracking - easiy enough to replace
Gabe showed up without a new injury? He’s getting boring!
