I was a Saab service advisor for a couple years. Most owners took very good care of their vehicles. They last forever with proper maintenance. They are VERY quirky!!!
Looks great underneath!! For love of god, please rustroof the rear subframe and front subframe!!! Those rust something bad due to GM cheaping out and it's extremtly hard to find a replacement! This way next owner won't need to replace it
They are really good cars, if you can get by some of their quirks. A friend of mine’s Dad bought one new and then my friend inherited it, still has it to this day with around 250,000km’s on it and he loves it.
The paint flaking off the bump shows it was red underneath the bumper was replaced. I bet it was in a front end accident on the driver side messing up the wheel alignment and cracking the transmission case.
You have the dreaded oil level sender O-ring leak. Not a fun job, but can be done with some dexterity. You can push the connector into the oil pan (retained with wire, of course) and swap the O-ring *inside* the oil pan. Like I said, not fun. Let me know if you want me to mail you one of the O-rings, I have several extras.
JB Weld fixed a rather large hole in a rusty oil pan on my friend's Taurus. She drove it 3 more years without any issue, after running it out of oil from the initial leak. Patch was still holding strong!
I worked for a very large rental car company over 20 years ago. We had these Saab's. Very sporty..but unreliable. Many times we had to rescue customers stranded somewhere in Southern California. Fortunately for my company these Saab's where on a lease/purchase arraignment. So after battling these cars for six months we were able to cancel the lease and gave them back to Saab.
that wobble you describe can also be the engine bay mounted U-joint from the steering assembly, its a 13mm bolt and you can reach it via the driver side front side wheel arch, you do need 2 extentions probably to reach it, tighten that nut up abit then you'll loose that dead feeling it would have if you drive straight
I'm not done with the video BUT. Saab used a fiber optic wiring system that the radio is tied into. Most people don't know how to properly install after market stereos in the 9-3SS. There is tons of information on that system online.
Unfortunately every ng9-3 seems to have its quirk caused by a bad owner, enjoy it though! I wanna see more people doing Saab content! Also, If you want a spicy tune I’ve got some reputable contacts haha
I bought a 1967 Saab when I was in high school, for 25$ and it had a 3 cylinder two cycle engine. Never got it running but definitely was the weirdest car I ever saw.
I know it is still a long way to go, but front bumper lip is from basic model, this is not aero. Aero is supposed to go all around the car with the same sort of lines as the sideskirts and rear bumber. By the look of it was replaced at some point.
You have to buy new tires before the alignment, or else the the alignment will not be correct. Impossible to get a correct alignment with tires that have wearing on the sides.
My wife and I bought an 07 9-3 aero 2.8v6 turbo for 1500 cash no crank no start after I gave him the money I smacked the abs unit and it fired up and drove away. Yes 3rd gear is sick from 80 to 140 was insanely fast. Deer 🦌 took it out at 60 had full coverage but insurance totaled it out we were both sadden to see it go
Swedish cars are really cool….you should pick up a Sonett, or a 1980 900…That is a cool Chevy Malibu…I don’t think it’s Saab if GM owns them…GM bought Saab in 2000.
I work at what I imagine is one of the last surviving primarily Saab shops. GM propped up Saab for years. Interesting cars but management unable to build to a price point.
@@CarlosSantos-ln7xe GM era saabs were not in the same league as pre GM. Starved of investment...priced like a mercedes...but gm quality. It was a sad end to a great company. GM still not doing great either are they

Zip ties and JB Weld. The only thing missing is some flex seal/tape. 😉

Saab people are pathological about maintenance. Even when they get old. I had a nearly 200k 9-3 Aero like this and it got lots of love.

It's as if I've tuned into an episode of Watch Rainman Go...
😂😂
There is a kit for those Saab to prevent death wobble. It secures the steering rack to the firewall
That's for the OG9-3 though, never heard of that being a thing for the NG9-3...

Loving the slightly early video drops!😁
Love love love my ‘02 9-3 SE Convertible!’
high speed death wobble? isn't that what your ford truck was doing?
Are you suggesting it's the nut behind the wheel?
Yeah, the old one, it's always something in the steering 😬
They are really good cars, if you can get by some of their quirks. A friend of mine’s Dad bought one new and then my friend inherited it, still has it to this day with around 250,000km’s on it and he loves it.
I do genuinely love Saabs
Less problems = less content
That JB Weld fix was something
Owned a 2004 9-3 Linear 5 speed and a 9-3 Arc convertible 6 speed. Both 2.0 turbos. Loved them!
The paint flaking off the bump shows it was red underneath the bumper was replaced. I bet it was in a front end accident on the driver side messing up the wheel alignment and cracking the transmission case.

I've done this myself, there's a good guide for this on SaabCentral. It's finicky but WAY WAY easier than dropping the pan.
You're killing me with these early drops, Smalls!😂
I think he tried to adjust for him being in Eastern time but inadvertently adjusted the wrong way. Got me too!
Mac and cheese noise? LOL
I had some Saab 900s and 95s and had similar steering/suspension symptoms. The problem turned out to be lower control arm bushings.

Wouldn't it make more sense to check the fuse panel diagram to find which one is for the radio and DIC?
That trunk wiring looks like a wire fire 🔥 waiting to happen 😂 dat car is sure a fancy sun a bit*h🤣
I wish Saab still made cars.
If some JB Weld works, more JB Weld works better! Clean it off and add more! 😅
JR you're all over the place with these drop times!
Hopefully back to normal with the next one! 💯

@@WatchJRGo they did. I'm thinking of buying a 9-5 aero in the crazy baby poop green spec. I keep seeing one at a local dealer and I have an urge.
If the radio doesn’t turn on and it’s an 06 below it’s the amp 1 under the seat if it gets wet no turn signal chimes either it’s very hit or miss
the steering wrack gear is missing a tooth. Its not the wrack, but from the steering wheel connection to the wrack
Decent car considering the mileage!

Did JR not get Gabes Boomhauer impersonation, or was he just annoyed? LOL
I had a friend with a Saab, until it blew a spark plug out of the head, and there was also a fuse on the back of the radio.

Fiber optic amplifer under the driver seat gets wet and fails and the radio stops. My ex had a 2006 9-3 and that was the issue.
Yep, mine too. I think I still have a dead one in the garage
