- What an event! Gutted to get injured at 40k which meant I could only do the 50k instead of my planned 100k. The first 40k went so well that I really thought I could come in with my sub 11 hour goal I had set. I will take some time to recover and come back stronger next year!

Thank you so much! Appreciate the kind words 🙌
As some others have said - 100k is a totally different beast to a marathon, however fast or slow you run.
I also respectfully disagree with your point that walking the last half would’ve meant you couldn’t say you’d run an ultra.
Very few people run the full 100k. I did my first 100k in May and probably walked slightly more than I ran.
But I’m absolutely telling folk I ran an ultra!
I do think it was wise of you to stop, though, given your injuries. Hope you’re recovering well 👍
Thank you for taking the time to comment, I definitely learnt it wasn’t like a marathon 🙈
I do see where you are coming from and I think that was my naivety thinking I could run the whole thing. Congratulations on your achievement of 100k and absolutely know now in hindsight that i could have said it and was probably a bit hard on myself.
Maintaining 6min/kms having never run further than 27miles? That was only going to end one way. At the 100km plus distance, if you think you've started too slowly, slow down. 😉
Thank you, I definitely learnt the hard way 🙈 but that’s what it’s about learning from
Mistakes and coming back stronger 🤜💥🤛
Absolutely, we've all done it. ☺ On an undulating course that's mostly runnable, rather than trying to stick to a specific pace, I chunk it up and be a bit generous. For example I might say 'every 90 mins- 10km' something like that. That way it gives me a buffer for over/under.
Doesn't always work but I find it's a bit less pressure/expectation.
Thank you, I’ll definitely change things up for my next one.
