  • "They are going to rob you!" are the words I have never heard as much as I did when I entered the Barrio of Rímac in Lima, Peru.
I was told that you can eat cow heart in Lima so that was my goal and no better place to do so than in a local area, away from the tourists.
    Things didn't go as planned.
    Let's Go!

He was the guy who the tuktuk driver was on the phone with earlier. Had he listened to the man's "warnings" and gone back the way he came, he would've been robbed by him and the tuktuk driver. People are saying you can get robbed or killed just like that. I understand about the robbing thing, but killed? Why would they kill you? Life don’t have any value there so some people just kill you like that?
An other question: on the top, there was a woman selling stuff and he bought a beer. Also, all the way, we see people like the old guy blessing him, or the people saying to him to hide the camera. Those people are not in danger? Or are they so used to it they don’t even care anymore?

On the second question, locals feel somehow safer because they have become adapted and risk-conscious. Today I live in a relatively safe district of Lima but I grew up in a not too safe area and it is just the harsh reality of everyday life there.

The reason why they ask for photo is:
They usually wanna take photos with ppl who look like their from top tier country's.
They immediately share the photo anywhere they could to alarm the gangs r robbers to come after u.
They try locating u by ur photo and where the taxi driver is going to drop u.
Don't let others take photos with u next time. Stay safe 🙏!

Ok, I´ve watched the taxi situation again. Frist, before Kurt took it, the taxi driver was already talking by the phone. Second, Kurt took the taxi driver by surprise. He didn´t expect to take a ride. Third, many taxis just stop somewhere so as to rest or pick the car or whatever, I believe that is the ocasion with this taxi, that is why there was a rope in the back, he wasn´t expecting to take anybody at that moment. Fourth. I don´t see any "victim" sign there as people say, but if there was, it doesn´t mean anything. Any kidnapper would write that anywhere, it´s ridiculous. Fifth. While the taxi driver was taking Karl, his phone rang. He didn´t call anybody at first, he was being called because he previously had been talking or trying to talk to somebody. Sixth. About the photo thing and why he put his mask on at that moment, that I can´t explain, but I´ve seen many people with masks in this video, even walking by the street which has no sense. And in another video at a restaurant I could see that people put on and off the masks without sense, or thinking what they were doing. Seventh. I only think that the taxi driver robbed him with the ride and wanted to take him down so as to have another income of money. The stairs person had nothing to do with it, and the taxi driver was just that, a taxi driver. Eighth. No tourists there, he was the only one, so may be that is why he asked for a picture with him. I don´t know.

This German is very lucky, but I need to know: why push it when the locals warned him many times. For views? That’s nuts. I’m afraid if he keeps it up, going to shady neighborhoods and pretty much daring anyone to rob him, or worse kill him for his camera and his money.
