  • You CAN'T miss this from 1987, my friends. Not just the above three geniuses, but also Michael McDonald on keyboards for this masterpiece love/empathy Dire Straits song -- with gorgeous guitar licks from Knopfler, soaring vocals from the Everly Brothers and terrific rhythm from Atkins. It's an experience you'll never forget!

The first time I ever heard this song was at the Brentwood Centre, sung by the Everlys with Albert Lee on lead guitar, it will live with me forever.

You are correct - Mark Knopfler is a genius. My favorite musician of all, with so many different talents.

I was blown away to see a reaction to this version of Mark's song. Like you I stumbled on this a number of years ago and I thought I was one of only a few who knew of it. Also like you it brought tears to my eyes for the same reasons. I've shown it to all my family and friends. Thanks for the affirmation. Cheers

This is so good, Mark was in heaven here, with his guitar hero Chet and his vocal heroes The Everley Brothers. You should listen to Imagine from this same concert, it's beautiful.

The Everly Brothers recorded a studio version of this song. I believe that was prior to this performance and didn't feature Mark Knopfler on guitar. Knopfler is also one of the guitarists on a song called She Means Nothing To Me sung by Cliff Richard and Phil Everly. I once heard a story that they were running out of studio time and Knopfler personally put up the money to ensure the song was completed. Another great version of Why Worry is Knopfler with Emmylou Harris from their Real Live Roadrunning tour.

This is the first reaction to _Why Worry_ I've seen on RUclips. I don't understand why there haven't been more - it's maybe Dire Straits' most beautiful song.
I had not heard this performance before, very nice, although I still prefer the original, which is a bit slower.
But yes, I get wet eyes too hearing this song. It's a song that just reaches inside your chest and grabs your heart...

...just had to watch your video a second time. You're right, different in a great way. When music is that great, the word "better" loses any meaning. I haven't checked out your channel yet, but that's next. I do wonder what you think of Jeff Lynne and ELO, or the Travelling Wilburys? I'd love to see you reacting to some ELO, or even better, Jeff's first group the Idle Race. If you love this song, you'll also love songs like _A Better Life (The Weatherman Knows)_ , _Please No More Sad Songs_ or _The Lady Who Said She Could Fly_ - I've tried to convince others who have done reactions to ELO, to do these songs, but without any luck so far. (I'd also suggest the fantastic performance of George Harrison's _While My Guitar Gently Weeps_ with Prince doing what is perhaps the best solo ever, but as many have done it already, I'd prefer the Idle Race. Especially if you haven't heard them before, because then you are certainly in for a treat! Jeff still has a wonderful voice today, at seventysomething, but the voice of the young Jeff Lynne, singing his earliest songs, is truly special.)

Doesn't get much better than this. I was 17 when I bought the VHS video tape of this whole performance also including Emylou Harris, Paul Yandell( excuse my spelling)and many others. I still have that tape. You can't beat the old days. That's real music and real genuine people. Cheers from Australia. PS. I love Mark Knopfler. He has another solo album coming out next year at 72 yo. God bless him.🎸🎸 Cheers love your reaction and channel.

daX, From the #1 Grace fan (who met Melissa on the street with my Daughter going to see Grace) my wife who is British years ago was flying back from London and saw these guys on the plane with guitar cases. Turned out to be Dire Straits coming to Boston. She chated them up (she was young and pretty, still pretty)and they put us on the guest list for their Boston Orpheum show and we did see the Everly Brothers on that tour on the Boston Commons. Still have the t-shirt but somehow it shrunk!

Great reaction Dax!! -- A number of years ago, I was exploring RUclips for videos of full concerts. I came across Dire Straits last concert in Australia of the Brothers in Arms tour. I knew some of their music but not much. The concert was well over two hours in length. I watched the whole video. (I have since devoured most of what there is to here and learn of Knopfler.) But what struck me the most was how much fun the band was having. Mark Knopfler truly knows the joy of making music. He enjoys writing his songs, producing his songs, and performing his songs. In this video we see Chet Atkins, the Everly Brothers, and Michael McDonald join Mark in a celebration of that joy. What a treat for us mere mortals to be a party to this. -- I don't remember where I heard or read it, but memory says that Mark said he wrote this song specifically with the Everly Brothers in mind. No surprise that he let them sing it on their own.

You know, Neil, every single time I see Mark Knopfler live, he is having fun. I think you are definitely right about his absolute joy in making music and performing music. I love watching him!
Another thing I really like about him is that he seems to be a true gentleman with just the right amount of wild spirit. Unbeatable in that regard. If he wrote that for the Everly Brothers, I love him even more.
That Australia concert sounds like a must for me to react to! As I said in this reaction, I’m about to start doing full albums and full concerts over on my Patreon account, so I won’t get blocked. I hope you’ll join me over there. Hope you’re doing well, my friend. So good to hear from you!

If you’re going to react and review whole albums, you can’t go far wrong with Roots by the Everly brothers, it is a masterpiece.
