For the Good Times (Ray Price) reaction
Ray's gorgeous, silky baritone, the poetry of Kris Kristofferson, and wonderful orchestral production make this one of the most sublime sad songs in music history.

The Impossible Dream (Grace VanderWaal) reaction

Gorgeous song, wonderful orchestra, lovely Grace, but her voice is strained and stretched, taking away some of the impact and emotional effect. Wish I didn't have to say that, but there it is. Please give me YOUR opinion on the performance. Seriously!
It's All I Can Do (Cars) reaction

Benjamin Orr's voice again takes you places, and Ric Ocasek's guitar, lyrics and arrangement give us that splendid quirkiness that defines the cars. Orr's bass on this is terrific too, along with the keyboard funk.
All Mixed Up (Cars) reaction

These guys had such a cool, funky sound that somehow still managed melody and musical impact. This is a fantastic (though a bit cynical) take on the psychodrama of relationships, with Orr's voice carrying us away.
Homeward Bound (Simon & Garfunkel) reaction

There just simply may be no better duo harmony in the history of music. Combine that with exquisite acoustic guitar and a strong drum/bass backing and a bohemian lyrical journey and longing for home, and you get this masterpiece.
The Boxer (Simon & Garfunkel) reaction

How is it possible, my friends, that a majestic masterpiece like this sublime song could ever be created and exquisitely performed to absolute perfection, rocketing the human spirit to places unseen but purely felt? It is an Odyssean journey of lyrical loneliness counterposed by soaring orchestration of defiance and hope. Just wow. 00:00 Setting scene 01:30 Reaction begins
To Sir With Love (Lulu) music reaction

Man, man, man, man, MAN! This adorable and delightful Scottish lady has the pipes and undulating emotional inflections that mesmerize and captivate. This is an exquisite song, with wonderful drum work, guitars and, yes, violins till your heart's content. It was the biggest song in the U.S. in 1967 and rightfully so!
Anyone Who Had a Heart (Cilla Black) reaction

One of the greatest and most emotional voices of all time singing one of the greatest lyrics (Bacharach/David) of all time. This is a goose-bumpy performance by Cilla in 1964. Absolutely mesmerizing. LOVE LOVE LOVE this lady!
Mercy Mercy Me (Marvin Gaye) reaction

The wonderful lyrics are about ecology and what man is doing to the world, but again, Marvin conveys his meaning with such tenderness and emotion that even if you don't completely agree with him, it just doesn't matter because the beauty of his sound is almost unmatched.
What's Going On (Marvin Gaye) reaction

If modern music and rap had even half of this man's brilliance for lyric, meaning and melody, I might listen to it. Marvin is a template for class and transcendent emotion and message all rolled into one amazing man.

Listen to the first part of a verse from a Grace song lyric and see if you know what the rest of the verse is. If you're like me, you'll want to keep listening to each lyric, but alas, prepare yourself quickly for the next verse quiz. Good luck. Giddyup! The Bells of Notre Dame (from 1996 movie) music reaction

Powerful orchestration and choral magnificence with a mellifluous narrative integration about Quasimodo and other characters make this 7-minute intro on the movie "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" a moving experience. Wow! From Patrick Page's channel: ruclips.net/video/qtuUw5jnTns/видео.html
Something in Your Eyes (Tori Holub) reaction

Wow, a Carpenters song I'd never heard of. Turns out it was never performed by Karen because of her tragic demise. It was written by Richard, and Tori has now done her rendition. She does a bang-up, moving performance, but the song, unfortunately (for me), is rather mediocre. I hope you enjoy.

Would love to see your reaction to SilverChair & Daniel Johns ❤

The TEN seconds from 3:53 to 4:03 is sung WITHOUT A BREATH. Listen to it again. From the time he begins to sing the word "Dream..." until he finishes "Long Ago..." is just one continuous run... I get goosebumps every time I hear it...
You missed the joke at 10.04.. Reporter - "I remember the launching of Frank Sinatra, Johnny Ray and Elvis Presley.." Paul - "Great ships.."
I so agree with you 100%
Great reaction to a classic. This song reminds me of my home country Wales. I recently saw Tom in Chepstow and he still sounds unbelievable!
We come and hit his woman anytime. I hit it that way
Hello, do you have french roots, dear author?
@@josephlagrange9531 little bit
Her voice is hauntingly beautiful! Raw, pure, authentic, from the ❤. Perfection!🙏
I heard Jennifer’s performance, voice, video, years ago, and then just now, … could it be Jennifer is one of the greatest artists in modern history ? That’s sounds a bit much but what other performance quality of artistry song writing can I remember equal to this ? Maybe David Gilmore, bochelli, Led Zeppelin at their best, only something on that level can compare, not to mention Jennifer seems to be an Angel, hmm I simply cannot imagine any song performance more magnificent than…. Thank you Jennifer ….j
One of my favoritesongs ever. His voice is so smooth.
I completely agree with you on this. It came across as forced, heavy and overdone, which means it wasn't at all natural for her. Someone can post a list of all of the traits her voice is known for, but a beautiful and unique voice doesn't always mean she's going to elevate a song to something it's not. I think she relies too much on the raspy qualities of her voice. We all love Grace, right, and she's uniquely beautiful and mesmerizing. But this wasn't a stellar performance.
@@Cee-t8r Spot on. “Forced, heavy and overdone” are the perfect adjectives for this uncomfortable performance. There is almost no real joy or ecstasy in this. Grace is the Johnny Depp of music. She is weird and fresh and new. You don’t really know what to expect, except for something extraordinary. At least, that’s how she used to be. I’m surprised, honestly, that any of her fans really like this performance. It seems to me that she really did not want to be here.
It is an exceptional performance, and the high praise she has received for it, as well as it being the most viewed performance from this night of industry legends, seems to back that up. Her interpretation of the song is powerful, and she delivered it with the emotive vulnerability that is a staple of hers. She didn't "force" anything. The performance not fitting your preferences is a different matter.
@@daxmusix Not at all the case. The complete opposite actually. In her red carpet interviews from this event, she seemed to feel unworthy to be there and was tremendously honored at the opportunity, and it has certainly paid dividends.
This medley was done with a guy named Jim Wilkas, who added some of the harmony t racks and played a number of the instruments as well as helping to put the video together. The original video was a split screen with Jim on the left hand side. There was no problem synching the video and voice. I don't know why this version of the video exists along with the other one. Jim and Tori have done a few other collaborations that are worth watching. They are both very talented. Watching Tori only makes you want to hear more.
I was looking for reactions to this song and ran across yours. Very complete and insightful. Looking over your videos, I think I'll be watching more as time permits. I've culled my subscriptions to a lot of my music reaction channels, but your channel may be worth keeping. My compliments to you on this one.

Dax, i could see you and those pretty ladies walking down the street just strutting and laughing, all them kissing you.
Oh goodness goodness GOODNESS! What an image! Thank you. It will live forever in my my mind! :)
Song could have been a little longer? This could have been better.
I use to play the record on the jukebox while cleaning the hotel lounge, for the next crowd of guests.
This song makes me so emotional. It fits how my life has been so much and I feel that I'm running out of time
Love your observant and intelligent reaction! Yes the song is reverential and spiritual and draws one in from the first word.
IMHO this is the best performance of Grace has delivered. Emotional and assured.
One of the greatest groups of the sixties 😮 what a sound
One of the greatest groups of the sixties 😮
His young voice is for me the most beautiful voice that existed. Only Whitney's matches.
What a talent!! Rest in Eternal Peace Michael 💔💔💔
I hear you! Petula Clark + Tony Hatch productions = PRICELESS! I Know A Place is a gem right up there with Downtown.
One of the greatest performances of this song ever is from The Dance 1997 special. It’s so raw and energised- the first time they’d all sung together in years and Stevie goes absolutely berserk on the chorus. Truly magical.
You haven’t liked anything she has done in a long time. That was an incredible performance.
How could you possible missed this song with her before. I just want to scream out loud every time someone think this is a Celine Dion song.

Wonder how many minutes it took Ray to write the lyrics….🤔 Seriously, tho, one of my all time favorite groups, picked up this record when it first came out on their first album. I was 14 or 15 at the time. They lost me from the 70s, tho, when they went over bored for all that theatrical nonsense 😖
One of my very favorites of his 👌
What are you talking about? This song & the group was released in 1962. The girl grip thing began 2 years earlier with The Shirelles & The Marvelettes ✅
I see this was 3 years ago, with no other Lara Nyro videos since. Just curious, did you ever take your discovery of her further in your off video life, or did it stop there?
Do yourself a huge favor by listening to the entire album this song came from, Eli & The 13th. Confession 👌
She was famous, within the limited circle who knew of her at the time, for her unique, previously unheard of time changes within a song.
~ Nearly everyone who covered her songs for a hit copied her arrangements as well, which were part & parcel to her compositions…. and yes, she did all of the singing & arranging of the background vocals as well ✅
Nobody who had hits with her music came close to her original renditions, including this relatively lame cover ❌
I've watched Grace as much as any mega-fan, this performance (and I've analysed it many times, is up there with the highlight of her career so far, absolutely! - If you don't think so, your opinion. But otherwise, get out of my lobby dude, you're off the rails... This is absolutely phenomenal.
Great video, Dax. All my musician friends idolise Ray, and consider the "Ray Price Shuffle" to be the epitome of Country shuffle dance music. He was a singer's singer. One of my faves!
Thanks, Wiley! Never heard of the Ray Price Shuffle. LOL cool. He is INDEED a singer's singer. Such class, control and easy emotional vibe. One of my heroes -- even when I was a kid.
@daxmusix - It's just a groove that he had going in various songs. Nothing better.
Your reaction is spot on. She made it a work of art...beautiliful!!!! And im not leaving out the others. Each had a special spot that only all together was amazing.
I cry everytime I watch this. I was born in 69 so I grew up on them and this is so poignant 😢❤❤
Timeless, He is on another level.
I thought this song couldn't get any better but you adding your 2 cents all through this masterpiece prove me wrong
❤❤❤ I played and played her all the time, I so enjoyed her music
