How many Tudor buildings got Georgian additions? Georgian buildings modernized with Victorian additions? The garden is lovely, and the extension is barely noticeable from outside. It's sleek and unobtrusive and totally deceptive about the size from outside. Inside - it's fricking ginormous!
As a conservation qualified architect I also did a modern roof top extension to a pair of Moderne flat roofed curved wall and windows property. The planners tried to tell me how to design 'in keeping' with a masonry curved wall cement rendered cavity wall supported on a 100mm two storey internal wall. I told them why that was not sensible so they refused planning permission! They said the building was listed, is isn't. They said it was in a conservation area, it isn't. They said it could be seen from a listed park, it cannot. We had to appeal and, of course, won. That is how poor the planning system is in the UK outside cities!
@@RealLifeArchitecture , hang on the planning Inspectorate ar far more realistic than NIMBY LA planning officers whose decisions tend to be made in line with the politicians that run the council :-( Having a planning officer with no design qualifications dictating to me how an architect should design was a bit much!

That extension looked like no more than minor cosmetic work until you showed it in the original condition. Stunning design, work and home.
Thank you
Excellent discussion. Wish I knew of you when I owned a property in Coates Gardens. Now living in Germany, but one day I may.. well who knows.
Glad you found it interesting
Very informative video. Beautiful Project! I love your videos - from a fellow USA Architect!
Thank you!

I’ve got a similar issue with a rural area just now.
