- I review the all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sport 2-Door with the automatic transmission and take it on a 650 mile road trip! Huge thanks to Jeep for providing the Wrangler. What do you think about it?

Matt, instead of letting up the driver seat for rear occupants, try the passenger seat. The passenger seat allows you to pull the top lever so that it flips forward and then slides forward. The driver seat does not function the same and its been this way since previous wranglers.
Agreed it’s how every coupe has functioned since ever.
If you live in a very snowy climate, you will really appreciate these jeeps. Most of the big time reviewers, Don t understand winters in Northern Minn, Wisconsin, where some roads never are not ice free, in till late March. The little tire noise, is nullified, by the peace of mind.
Glad I found your channel! Buying a new '19 tomorrow, can't wait, and enjoyed your great review!
I wonder if you have bought your Jeep yet? How is it? What's the plus and what's the minus?
Getting ready to order my first Wrangler: 2 door, manual shifter, Sport model. It will cost around $33k -- not $40k.
you need more steering wheel play in a all terrain vehicle , the reason is simple, when you are driving along a rough bumpy road the very responsive steering wheel would toss you easily to the side , you wouldn't be able to hold the steering wheel in a precise position due to the constant rocking of the vehicle
Yep, the play in the steering is due to the live axle suspension, not a design choice. This reviewer lacks basic 4x4 knowledge.
I feel the joy fills him by driving the wrangler, it's even a fun car makes you smile too!
I think that issue of getting in the back seat your supposed to access the back from the passenger seat. It tumbles farther without the steering wheel and give you more room to access the back.
Been watching your videos. Thank you. Your very detailed on every model you drive and don’t nit pic like red line reviews. Thank you. Keep it going.
Nice review. The velcro straps on the back of the rear seat go through the square loops to hold the back seat up while driving.
Besides the Mercedes Benz G class ,the Jeep Wrangler has no direct competitor. Its one of a kind. The other thing is that they do not depreciate much either. They keep their value many years down the line.

1985 Honda CR-X Si that comment was made 3 years ago. I agree, I’m actually looking at the bronco right now. I’m just not happy with motor. Not saying jeep don’t have the list of issues. Atm I’m driving a truck that I haven’t used as a truck in years. Now I want something that when winter hits I don’t give af what is on the ground. Yes, bronco is another variable in this. Too new for me I think. Sharp though but reminds me a lot of a Land Rover. Not a bad thing though.
Driving a jeep first hand, wranglers are AWESOME!
Thanks Matt for the video scenery of my old neighborhood. I really appreciate living in S/W Florida, with my Hopped-Up Eco-Stang Convertible, so much more now! If I were you, I would get out of there, while you still can....
Matt... Couple things: Imo the longer term or drive time suits your style VERY well. I like the more real world expectations & critiques. Also like that you are integrating more outside rolling shots. Your channel is getting really good, I think you've truly found your niche.
The limits of 2 door wranglers have always been easily accessible and fun to play with on a backroad.
LOVE how the rear seat head rests fold completely out of the way.
Getting one this weekend so excited!!!!!!
This will probably be my next vehicle purchase, in a few years though...
I drive a Ford Fiesta ST, I can’t ever see myself selling it, but one day I’m going to need a practical car for kids and stuff and I’d like to get into some off-roading adventures. I’ve kinda always had a soft spot for jeeps, I like what they represent and they have a fun and rugged personality.
As long as I can keep my pocket rocket ST next to it in the garage I think it’ll fit in nicely.
I'm suprised the channel does not have over a million subbs by now, It deserves it. This channel is highly under-rated.
EXACTLY!!! I was saying this same thing years ago when I first discover Matt the "SubaruWRXFan" :) When he and "ThatDudeinBlue" were talking about a certain blue BRZ and Mustang ;)
Agreed...unfortunately clickbait and drama get most of the attention these days.
agree
Maverick Mason videos are too long, have to skip through most of it to get to the useful information
I think this is a fairly fair and spot on review. $40K really is a large sum of money especially when the new Ranger is coming, the Taco is proficient off-road, and the Canyon is sorta in between. Then again, you can do things off-road in the base two-door Wrangler that none of the previous vehicles could do. But for me they are just too expensive now.
scottieray I mean, a Tacoma TRD Off Road can hit 40k easy. This Wrangler is damn near maxed out on options.
endocry You would need to step up to Rubicon trim to compete with Tacoma TRD Pro. Two-door Rubicons are listing for over 50k where I live.
scottieray Well I said TRD Off Road, not TRD Pro. The TRD Pros were going for 50k easy. Also, there is no stock 2 door Wrangler that msrp’s for 50k. 47k is top trim, maxed out options. You can get a 2 door Rubicon new in the low 30k range. I like both, but Wrangler is a better value in my opinion.
The 4Runner is right at $42k, and it gets worse gas mileage. Also the Jeep is a convertible. 😎 Both hold their value better than any other vehicle.
You should talk about the speakers in all your reviews. Demo them like you do acceleration
I'd love to have one of these things for winter...and for some off road camping adventures
Matt hasn't seemed this excited in a long time!
Love your reviews! Thank you!
Thanks, great review. I think it is the strongest compact car there is.
i stopped watching you for a while. i notice you're not Subaruwrxfan anymore. Good to see youre still doing your thing man!! much love
The passenger side seat moves for the rear passengers. The driver seat isn’t made for that. And the key goes into the slot with the cup holders.
I think there is a lot of slop in the steering because of the live axle up front! Thanks!
Hey Matt, from the comments I am seeing... Looks like a lot of new Subscribers have found your channel recently? I really do hope so, you deserve all the success that can be had from this! OH and I completely agree with you on this review... I am a "sports" car fan and not so much a SUV/Crossover/Truck fan. However I do like the Grand Cherokee TrailHawk, and will be buying a new one in May when I am home for R&R :)
Thank you! And congrats on the upcoming Grand Cherokee!
Something I'm curious about is if that rear seat can actually come out of the vehicle? Sorry if I missed that information if you said it in the video.
I own a Jeep exactly like this one, except is Turbocharged...Well, Couple of things missing by Matt’s review... That’s not the base Sport model which start 32K now...That’s the Sport 28 ‘S’ model. The rear seat for the JL’s...it has couple of latches from each side to keep it in place once is lifted. Other than that Matt’s review is really good!!!
Great review
After every description, "it's good to have that" 😉
Nice review! One quibble though about the gas mileage. It is very cold operating conditions 14 F in the one shot plus winter fuel. In my experience in both a late model 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder my mileage drops almost exactly 3 mpg under those conditions in the upper Mid Atlantic Region where I live. So that puts it right around the 23 MPG it is rated at.
Thanks Matt great review.
The little slot in the cup holder ( 7:00 ) is for you to keep your key fob in.
Your reviews are thorough and enjoyable! And, I agree, the Jeep is pricey, but something, besides the trucks, needs to turn a profit for FCA. I'd probably never buy one, but I sure do respect their capabilities and off-road prowess.
Did you take it off-road or take the top off? Fold down the windshield or remove the doors? What exactly did you do with it for a week? Not a very comprehensive test.
I’d like to see a similar review of the 2019 Cherokee (Trailhawk)
This new Wrangler looks fantastic. I’m done with sports cars for a while. Getting ready to buy a new Jeep for off-roading and road trips. I’m just a little skeptical of the fuel mileage figures.
Also the 2 door costs more than the 4 door with common options. Very strange.
Would really like if you were able to take some of the off-road vehicles for an off-road review. "Let's turn onto this power line easement here."
I wonder how much the fuel economy has improved now that the current Wrangler has a mild hybrid set up teamed up with the V6.
Thank you for your honest review
Still waiting for mine... not scheduled to begin production until mid March
Nice video, that voice took me by surprise was expecting that high voice.
Good lord! These new Wranglers may as well be Cadillac Moon Buggies compared to my 1999 Carolina Blue 2.5L 4Cyl TJ! Wow!
What a great review!
Slot between the cup holders is for the key fob.
That key was *Huge* 😲😭
$40k is insane for a two door wrangler.
Idiots pay for it
Really isn’t coming from a Jeep dude, it should be more like 38k, but if it’s $40k it must have some upgrades?
Well a year later I’m looking at new ones for $10k off, so $30k now!
Hmmm paid 33 for my 2 Dr 20 wrangler soft top with heated seat steering wheel....not sure where he is on pricing...just like his comment on the wind noise..he is WRONG

What makes them so expensive? How expensive can body on frame, dual live axles, and locking differentials be?
That's a USB Type C port, not micro 😉. Nice to see Jeep forward thinking. Also the back seat thing on the 2door if it's like the JK, you gotta go in through the passenger side because that seat goes all the way up.
Matt has some of the best reviews on RUclips.
Yee.
I use to own a 1997 Jeep Wrangler and I wanted to buy another Jeep Wrangler. However, I had no clue that the cost of a Jeep has gone up so much. Where are the improvements that have caused it to cost so much?
To me, it looks like that they would've put some kind of paddle shifters in the 2018 Wrangler. I don't know why, but I seen the holes behind the steering wheel, and so that's probably what it looked like
Just want unbiased opinions- Is the Wrangler the best off-road SUV in stock form or do you think something else is better off-road in stock form?
Does the sport S come with the LED headlights?
Does the AC shuts off with the stop/start feature ?
Bought a 2016 4 door traded it in within a year. Thankfully a Nissan dealer wanted my business and gave me my original purchase price in trade in and gave a smoking deal on a Rogue. Much happier now. The wrangler is still on the dealer lot 4 months later lol.
supperterofsanity Can I ask why you traded it in?
Mainly we were not expecting the compromises that came with a Wrangler. Total pain in the butt to put groceries, the dog or whatever into the back with the soft top. You gotta open the gate with the tire on it, unzip two zippers and unlatch the plastic window to use the rear cargo area. Yes you can just use the gate by itself but you only have a foot tall space to stick whatever you have into the back. I drove it on a 1500 mile trip and It drove me nuts how loud it was, wind noise etc. Fuel mileage horrendous. No rear defrost. The top leaked but never when the dealer tested it. It is still on the lot we traded it to 5-6 months now. That being said I'd buy one again in a heartbeat if it were purely a pleasure vehicle if I could pay cash, maybe used. It is a blast on trails or just weekend cruising. Kids loved the thing.
@@supporterofsanity A hard top would have suited you better!
There’s Velcro straps you tie onto the metal hooks.
The play in the steering wheel is a problem from the factory, as is the faulty frame welds.. .... FCA trying to fix it, maybe a recall,...Lot of first year production problems,...IDK what FCA will do to correct .....
Nice review. $40,000 is that msrp? I’ve seen similar 2018’s in the low to mid 30’s hardtop must push the price up.
That USB port looks like USB-C, definitely a nice addition.
Great review.
$40k is insane. My dad spent like $42k on a 2016 Silverado 1500 4door with basically every option other than leather seats and that thing was a dream machine.
Matt needs to drive one in the summer with the doors and roof off to get the real experience. Great video as always man!
Will you do any Elantra Sport reviews?
looking forward to your first bronco review
I like this 2 doors though the price really makes it too expensive. Maybe I'll wait for incentives and for it to be out for a few years.
Can you take the rear seats out?
$40,000. WOW!!! However,Wrangled is the only Jeep in the line up I would purchase. But not at that price. I'll keep my 2010 unlimited. Thx
Mark Hoffman really looking to buy a wrangler. Any advice? U said u have the 2010 unlimited?
Nice connection to the '67 Matt! Lol
Thanks man! Hope it's still doing well!
Matt Maran Motoring It sure is! Let me know when you’re in Ohio again and we can have some more fun!
Are the seats removable?
Do the rear seats come out???
the noise in the cabin is very much influenced by the type of tires one is riding on
Roman from The Fast Lane Car got 6.84 seconds on 0-60
Is it reliable? And how about the gas mileage?
I don't agree with moving the marker/turn signal lights to the fender, hopefully Poison Spyder will make some great replacement fenders for the JL.
Thanks for posting :)
Am I the only one who likes road noise? It makes me feel more connected with the car and the road.
Agent. K. It gets very tiresome on a long trip. If you just love road noise you should rent a 20ft UHAUL for an 800 mile drive. Barf. I'll never do that again.
I'm a truck driver and after about 12 13 hours of driving you get really tired of all that noise, turbo whistle, loud engine, wind noise, loud tires...
VanAllen garage. I love the turbo sound.
All I could hear was a fast annoying voice.. the road noise was pleasing compared to the commentary
Ride or die!!
how did a Sport get to 40k?
The two door is the sports car of jeep (GREAT:) Just wish the Diesel was out already!
Oh man a two door! Can we order one now?
is that a Baracuta jacket?
Matt make another awesome intro like the one you had when u had the wrx fan name that really made the channel more exciting hook us up Matt
2009 was the best model for two doors baby
So when are they putting the hellcat engine in it?😂
thats a really bad idea
2019 model year lmao
Jeff K why?
Hahahaha
Thing that makes this even more funny is they did it 2 years ago for easter jeep safari it’s called the TrailCat look it up on RUclips
Can you please try Sahara unlimited?
If you're coming to Michigan, come review my mustang, you'll have a lot of fun in it and love it. Let me know?
Thanks Matt
Great review as usual! For me it would be a no-brainer to take a 4-door over the 2-door and it even looks much better. A 2-door would have to be a Rubicon since the reason to get one is off-roading. The radio bezel is horrendous. All in all FCA did a great job updating the Wrangler
David Schofield you’re an idiot thinking age has anything to do with it. Get over yourself, old man.
how many "smart phones" you got ?
Two solid axles, one in the front and one in the back eh? You don’t say!
I believe you can pick up the wrangler JL sport for 27k stock. Ribicon is 36k i believe. Just like any vehicle the more bells and whistles the more $ you can spend. Ive seen 4 banger mustangs for 40k. Some peple like to cruz mall parking lots, some people like to go off the beaten path. Its all realative. Apples vs oranges..
Still no Hemi??
Did you get a base trim by pissing someone at fiat off?
That's a type c connection. Google helps when reviewing cars
It looks like it’s from 2005. God I love jeeps
I think the play may have to do with the fact...not sure if it is on this model... “electronic steering”❓❓
the new transmission is huge difference
You're supposed to use the passenger seat to get into the back that's why it was so difficult
You are supposed to get in the back from the passenger side that seat goes up more
Damn that’s fast for a Jeep
