Love the vids Campman!, There's millions of Aussie men stuck in their jobs with their wives kids and mortgages just dreaming of doing what you're doing!. You're an inspiration to many!.
Very true. At 54 years old being an office worker my whole life , I became an outback roads Inspector in WA. Currently oddly enough working very near Derby. Best thing I've ever done on my life . I was dying fast in those office jobs.😊
Glad I found this channel. Loving it, You know it’s not only men who are feeling stuck, as a female I love being out in the nowhere as I call it. Just get out as much as you can when you can.

Well shit a brick the yarns he spun 😂😂 funny bugger , here have a beer he says to the old man and here have another, you can’t fly on 1 wing he reckons (bush chooks from the powerless fridge ! 😂) he was also a fighter pilot for Germany back in WW2 and a glazier by trade , he actually helped install the windows in the Derby airport , True character 👍
😂 you’d have to be a half loose…. To live like this haha. I can only imagine the things he would say and do, specially after a tin or 2. And you wouldn’t believe it but I have a fella camped up from me and he also was telling me about home being a fighter pilot in WW2. The man was a Jack of all trades ha. Cheers for sharing this with us mate.
Old Helmut place has really gone down hill the last few years. It's been over 20yrs since iv visited there .RIP helmut .love your Chanel mate a real Aussie.
Yeah after watching It on Malcolm’s episode it definitely has. Would have coped a few floods since Hemuts passing too. I would have love ya seen it 20 years ago. Thanks mate.
Meet old Helmut in the mid 80's on a fishing trip and had a couple of beers with him. Your right about having big balls. He use to wade out and set a net in front of his hut (His hut has seen better days). His only protection was a wooden donger to pacify the crocs and sharks caught in his net. A truck use come from Derby, collect the fish and resupply him. Back then he ran a genset to power the freezer. Me and the mates spend time chatting to him, he was a great character.
Awesome mate, thanks for sharing that with us. I sat there and just imagined what it would have been like in the wet.. and yeah he definitely got a set! Would hav had a story or 2 too tell to I bet. Cheers again mate.
He certainly did, old mate use to fly ME109's in the Spanish civil war and WWII, being Air Force at the time we had a good old chat with him. He certainly was a character that would have rated a good biography.
@@johnclimpson9946 Small world. My old man used to tell me that there was an ex Luftwaffe pilot that ended up somewhere in the Kimberley, I'm guessing it must of been Helmut?
I was up in the kimberley just over 5 years ago. Your videos are giving me the itch to go back. Bloody warm and muggy but beautiful country. Fresh baramundi over the fire just before the Kimberley sun sets.
I was with a couple of mates, our first time in the Kimberley. We camped on the Fitzroy and on our way out we came across Helmut’s residence. We stopped to have a look… he had a lot of dogs, from memory. He came out and said “g’day “ to us and we had a bit of a yarn. We had no idea who he was, but certainly admired his lifestyle. It wasn’t until years later that I found out about him…legend!!.
It’s a beautiful spot we camped there last year and the house is amazing how he built it I think even some of today’s engineers could learn from his work
Just recently visited this top spot. Got to see Helmut's hut also. Amazing he lived out there in the harshest of elements. I'd love to see the video where he met Malcom Douglas. . I couldn't find it anywhere.

great vid mate, these blokes Helmut & malcom were pioneers of this great country and to walk in their footsteps is priceless, u got me on board, cheers
Loved Malcolm Douglas's shows. I have special fondness for the way he would cook in the bush. A pinch of salt and a handful of flour were literal pinches and handfuls. The cooked product he pulled from the coals would always look so much more delicious to me than any 'Michelin Star' restaurant rubbish. Thanks so much for bringing us this footage. Enjoy your travels. 👍
The man nailed everything he did when it come to cooking.. one of my favourites was the dead grass on the oyster rocks.. light it up and they was ready to eat in about 30 seconds ha.
Keep them coming, Dale Old mate. Malcom would be proud. It just simply amazes me how bloody beautiful Australia really is, and what better way to see it, through your videos! I'm hanging to get out one day. Well done bro, and stay safe.
