Spamton is a good mix of a creepy, funny, and downright tragic character. Toby did a great job with chapter 2
sure did.
I hope I we more of them in the next chapter
he’s the best character honestly

He has more depth than jevil
@@user-ko8pu5wu4l Yeah. Jevil will still stay my favorite(right behind Rouxls, NOBODY BEATS HIM) But Spamton is a much more complicated character, in a good way
The fact that the "Exit" option has been replaced with "Escape"
And "Close" was replaced with "Run Away"
No selling too, only BUYMORE!!!
Would’ve been a neat easter egg if you could’ve pressed the escape key to exit automatically

Actually, I just realized it kinda does, since holding the escape key closes your game
One of my favorite details about Spamtom is the fact that every item you buy im his store just a illusion of what they used to be
Really drives the point of how crazy and out of touch with time Spamtom really is, like he himself can't see the time pass no longer and now lives in disillusion thinking he is still a BIG SHOT, but once you come out of his zone, you see the truth behind it
Thats.. actually really sad oh god

When I played this chapter I thought, “it’s so creepy when spamton looks directly at you” but when I watched the video I realized when he looks at the camera his eyes are actually pointed a little bit to the right of the camera; but when I played this chapter I played it on a switch, not on my desktop, and I sat on the side of the couch, so it looked like Spamton was looking directly at me, which somehow made him even creepier. It made me think about his eyes when he faces forward, and how it’s almost like he’s not looking at Kris but past them, the person controlling Kris, the player…
or maybe Toby Fox just didn’t center the pupils for no reason at all and I’m just being paranoid
oooo cool theory
So Toby is bullying console players, lol
You read my mind
Maybe. But it does show his pupils during some dialogue. They’re pointed up not to the right

In undertale, you can find a secret phone call in relation with your fun value, where the person on the line asks if they can talk to someone with the initial G. Looking at how a phone is extremely important to spamtons character in many ways, maybe the person on the line is refering to spamton?
He has a phone on the back of his shop

Is this Spamton having a moment of sanity and realizing things aren’t right? It’s so…uncomfortable to have him go from insane and up-tempo to just a quiet plea for help. It’s really creepy, and it makes me think about how much of Spamton is the illusion of a [Big Shot] persona he has. Is his normal, sane self coming through here, or is it just me?
I personally believe it is him temporarily regaining sanity as well
after the neo fight ends in the regular route and you remove the puppet strings, before he vanishes his speech isnt in upper case and isnt corrupted. just normal like almost any other character in game. maybe the moments of sanity are the real spamton breaking through the control for a moment before being pulled back under by whatever entity controls him
I think it's the character stuck inside of the game's code talking through him, since he's a corrupted program it makes sense to me and it doesn't look like he's completely insane since he knew how to open the gate on the Queen's Mansion(and kinda betrayed us).
@@pros_0143 , I assume you mean the "Unused" text. It IS very similar! :O
Could be. I also wonder if it could be his puppeteer, perhaps Mike. Maybe he stopped calling because he got trapped somewhere. And he's trying to speak through his puppet (Spamton) to find help. o.o
(He definitely does become lucid for a sad moment after being defeated though, as @bean pointed out. At that part it's definitely him. While this scene... could be either possibility!)
I love the joke with “The Big One” promising absolutely absurd damage and literally being a “broken” item.
Although i doubt it would work, can you imagine going to the hammer fixy guy from chapter one in chapter three with “the big one” in your inventory, he fixes it and it becomes actually really good?
@@Paradee477 I think even he can't fix it lol

It's pretty creepy how everything is “glitching out” in the shop. Gaster must have put Spamton through shit if everything is like that.
I’ve heard it’s supposed to be implied that Spamton represents an old thrown out computer that’s festering with viruses or something.

This is the only time we've heard of Mike, right?

Spamton moving so smoothly instead of the normal choppy RPG animation makes him so much more unsettling.
Toby and Temmie are geniuses
What's even more off putting is his sudden appearance when entering the shop instead of a normal transition of normal shopkeepers
I think I’ve spotted a pattern with the secret bosses so far. Both of them are the only characters in the game to have voiced lines in their fight, and both of them have much smoother animations than any of the other characters. I wonder if the third chapter will make this thing a pattern

@@sason190 could be, I always assumed that that was just kris taking control
In the Japanese translation the 'Ow! Stop! Help me! It burns!' dialogue is translated so that it refers to eyes being burned by light instead. But that's actually not the only reference to Spamton's eyes being burned, as in the original English version he also says 'My eyes are burning like DVDs of any movie at half price' earlier than that in his battle, so I think that there's a hidden pattern here.
We know that Shadow Crystals allow you to see into the Light World, and that Spamton had one and could have used it for that. So maybe when Spamton (or other Darkners) see into the Light World, their eyes are burned due to not being used to such overwhelming amounts of light. Because think about it, Light Worlds are MUCH MUCH brighter than Dark Worlds.
Lightner eyes probably have to get used to the darkness of the Dark Worlds as well, as that could be argued to be hinted at by the 'Only eyes blinded by darkness can see the way' dialogue next to the eye puzzle in the ??? area.
love this comment, youre a big shot
also, i just looked at the shadow crystal wiki page and apparently when kris looks throught the glass (light world version of the crystal) they can see through their hand, which could be a gaster connection
A little specil something for you: Right when you first encounter him before the NEO boss fight, when complaining about how this new form wasn't what he was promised, he says "It's still so dark!"
Also "[...] so big we'll stand up tall and see past the dark"
2:52 uh, guys??? Anyone remember the unused dialogue from chapter one?? Doesn’t this seem… familiar?
Genuinely, my heart skipped a beat when I caught this in game. It isn’t 1-1, but it’s definitely close enough. Spamton is a puppet, isn’t he? Don’t people usually… talk through puppets? In any case, unless it’s just Spamton being Spamton, he doesn’t seem to realize he’s said anything(they’re talking to you). I’m looking forwards to figuring this out in the finished game

I feel like this isn’t spamton talking but instead someone else communicating through him.
He used to be a spam email bot meaning someone could very well be sending “spam” messages through him and use him to communicate
Alternatively, that is the REAL Spamton, while the character we see all this time is just him being controlled by someone else.
I see it as his last remaining piece of sanity, trapped inside. Meanwhile the Spamton we see rest of the time is the corrupted, insane Spamton.
@@CodenameBolts same
I think spamton just a normal entities before, then he wanted to be famous with any method.. he found a phone and make a deal with unknown person, that person on phone controlling spamton in order to get famous.. I really cant wait for 2022 release ch 3-5
He does call himself a puppet, doesn’t he?

Does anyone else think that it's weird how Spamton's phone at the back of his store keeps ringing but Spamton isn't bothering to pick it up or even look at it and he just ignores it? Like, the person that helped him could be trying to get in contact with him again or something. Maybe his insanity-takover thing is making him not pick it up.

"... BUT IT SOUNDED LIKE THEY WERE TALKING TO *YOU".*
I think that's Spamton saying what Kris themselves are saying and when Spamton says "... BUT IT SOUNDED LIKE THEY WERE TALKING TO *YOU."* I think they literally mean you. The player.
Kris is talking to the player there.
Definitly either Kris or the Player is who spamton is talking too
Chills ran up my spine when I read that line, goodness
@@LucaTheJackal Welll from the cry for help we can say it's either Spamton being controlled by Gaster, or Kris being controlled by the player, which Gaster allowed us to do.
@@LucaTheJackal
1- It's Kris begging for help becuse they are controlled by the player OR when he rips out its soul, Kris gets controlled by someone else
2- Spamton getting his sanity back for a second and begging for help to Kris or the player (maybe its because deep in his soul, he sees what his insane himself is doing)
Another time he cries for help is in the normal route when you first meet him in the garbage bin and he randomly says “HELP” in between attacks and ACTS.
@@PancakeTheKat that may reforce my theory, also he is a corrupted programm, so he:
1. As i said, he knows what he is doing and his sanity comes backs for a second to cry help
2. Spamton is actually sane, but something corrupted him (ralsei says he is a corrupted programm) and that thing that is corrupting him takes control over him, but the real Spamton is still there
is secret bosses being related with shopkeepers gonna be a theme throughout the chapters? I think so cause:
seam: a friend of jevil
spamton: really self-explanatory
That’s simply cuz shopkeepers are the best way to dump optional exposition dialogue
Spamton literally reveals so much lore. And just like jevil basically being kris locked happiness spamton feels the exact same way.
2:10 so no-one is gonna talk about this dialogue
Oh dang that's scary
That phone...
I wonder who he had a chat with
That phone? it's Ness Dad
I theorize it is Gaster or the Knight or the man behind the tree (if he is not one of the two)
If I’m correct with his lore, he was receiving advice from phone calls on his way to becoming a salesman, but the calls either stopped at some point or only made odd noises (Gaster possibly)
With himself? I mean, unless it was probably a restaurant, another scammer, or something worse...
It’s implied to be Gaster since the voice from the other end, according to one of the salesmen, “was nothing but garbage noise.” The garbage noise is Gaster’s thing pretty much and you can hear it for yourself if you call home in the dark world. Also he’s said to be a knight or some sort of saviour, which is strange isn’t it? It seems that anyone he interacts with goes crazy with the motif for freedom, since Darkners are doomed to be trapped in the dark worlds forever as opposed to lightners. Maybe he’s trying to build up a world where they have more… “freedom”? No idea!
The two short moments when he broke out of his insanity are so creepy
I find it really sad that all the items he sells apart from the keygen are these broken, terrible products while in the shop they look really good. It just shows how broken Spamton is, that he believes all the things he's selling are great.
I just took it as him scamming you into wasting your [SWEET DELICIOUS KROMER] on useless items
I'm not really into the game, but this character to me is more than intriguing, and I will even go on and say that he is my favorite character of all time. His personality is so unique and cleverly executed. Some people see him as creepy or funny, but to me, he is a profoundly sad character. The elements that makes me think of it/him this way is the alternations in personalities, the "static pulsions" and the shop music, and I really do think or at least interpret that this character doesn't just play a role in the story of the game, in fact, and as proved by many, Spamton has been turned into a corrupted state that's somewhat messing with his personality, making him switch between "semi-normal" and corrupted. I see a really sad and tragic story behind this, as it could be interpreted as someone losing themselves along with their freedom, social life and sanity over a job fail(all of the four elements mentioned in Spamton's story). But it is only a personal opinion after all, maybe this wasn't intentional, or it is just me seeing things where there aren't any.

I have been thinking of how spamton talks, let me see how many people can understand what i am trying to say here, with Spamton talk:
I AM [Big Thinkin'] TO THE MAX! THESE SPAMTON [Funnies]? They're [Hyper Hyped], I HAVE [Hilarity Overload] SEEN, but who can resist a little [Spamton Spectacle], right?
He just keeps talking about how he is going to shit himself
I just watched the VOD of the livestream fangamer did of chapter 1, when they revealed chapter 2. Toby referred to the vessel you create as a "workout ready body" just like Spamton does to the NEO body here.
He was giving us hints, it's not a coincidence.
2:12
Kris doesn’t want us to know something about the black Knight 😳
I think that Spamton got worried after he mentioned. Plus, Kris was under our control at the moment, they couldn't have threatened him.
Clown around town!
Hearing a part of Jevil's circus music melody in the background and making that connection drove the tension I had about spamton way up. Absolutely beautiful.
the Mike Dialogue makes so much sense in the context of the spamton neo's music background voice
*Please Mike Answer the Phone
I love how at 2:49 when he trying to tell you what the only thing to fear is..the phone rings and he gets really quiet and upset..MAYBE that was just good timing but..that was too creepy to not say anything, almost like he's scared of who's on the other end before being.."changed"
It was just insane timing.
[[Hyperlink blocked]] is either meaning freedom or being rich, but may be both cause being rich gives you a lot of freedom
"...BUT IT SOUNDED LIKE THEY WERE TALKING TO YOU."
*physically turns around*
I know Spamton NEO's body is supposed to be Mettaton NEO's body, but why do I have the strangest feeling that it was designed by Asriel? I mean, think about it:
-Asriel has on his computer an unfinished game whose final boss is "A creature with giant rainbow wings". Sure, this could be in reference to Undertale, but I feel like Toby's the kind of guy who'd throw this kind of foreshadowing at us through subversive humor.
-At --1:11- Spamton offers "A Ride Around Town"- a concept that Burgerpants talks about doing with Kris when Asriel gets home from college, like back in the old days. He KNEW Kris would react to such an offer of returning to the "Good Times" before Asriel left, and did so to manipulate him.
We see this in action after beating Spamton NEO in the basement: Kris gets deeply upset because (according to this theory) he was reminded of Asriel. Beating Spamton was like letting go of that part of his past, which as evidenced by many of the game's constant mentioning of the "Good Times" before Asriel left, is something Kris does NOT want to do. In fact, it might even be why he's creating Dark Fountains (should we learn more about his motives in the future)- a way of focusing his emotions (Not to mention, coping through Ralsei).
TL;DR: Spamton NEO was designed by Asriel, which is why Kris freaks out at the end of the fight. And even if he wasn't, Spamton likely knew of Kris' relationship with Asriel, and took advantage of Kris' emotional state to trick him into making a deal.
Ok this is actually so gut wrenching and fucked up if it's true. If the whole Gaster turning Spamton insane theory is true as well, then this adds another 50 layers of fucked up. Jesus toby didnt pull any punches with this chapter (Spamton, the roaring, Snowgrave) which is only making me worry about how the rest of the 5 planned chapters are going to play out.
I dont really believe this theory but its pretty darn cool
@@genericanimename6733 by the way,I have thought about that every strange character we met have connections to Gaster, including Kris, so what if we have already contacted with him ?
@@moose200 I definitely agree. The body is clearly Mettaton NEO, but I still wouldn't put it past a spammer to learn everything about their client before meeting them and phrasing their offers to appeal to their insecurities. I mean, even Google does it all the time with adds based on our search data- something we see Queen implement in her 'Rooms' in the castle. I'm convinced Spamton knew at least SOMETHING about Kris' dilemma in the light world with Asriel (perhaps even from his time with Queen, given that she had the search queries), and even if he didn't, then that only makes his coincidental words creepier.
Nope! It was actually by Mettaton albeit indirectly, if you talk to Swatch after beating Spamton Neo there's a new dialogue option for "Basement Robot". Swatch tells us, "That robot was the embodiment of a Lightner's dream." Who dreams of a sleek, flashy and brilliant body? Mettaton!
2:18 Burgerpants from genocide undertale :I can't go to hell. I'm all out of vacation days.
Theory time!
-You are the knight (not Kris, you as the player)
-Mike is either what the knights real name is or the next Spamton/Jevil character (they're probably the knights minions)
-Spamton attempted to gain power so he could overcome the knight and was killed for it (Spamton neo battle)
-Spamton also says in Big Shot "I think he's coming for me" implying that the knight is hunting him down because he tried to take control of the knight
-Spamton very clearly references Jevil when saying he'll "surpass the clown"
-Spamton knows who you are and tried to tell Kris about you, but you shut him up
-Kris knows about you anyways and is already trying to regain control (probably why they removed their soul those times)
I feel like mike will be the next King/Queen character as Jevil mentions Queen
or gaster is the knight, since he is always listening, and shut spamtom up...
But that's just a theory, A GAME THEORY
2:50 it feels like gaster is talking to you.
No that's probably what's left of Spamton's sanity, just like when you defeat him in his secret path. He hangs in the strings and for the second time throughout the whole game he speaks with proper grammar, vocab and punctuation
i like how when spamton tries to say something about the knight hes cut off very quickly claiming hes sorry, which is great foreshadowing about kris
Try to give the broken sword to Malius.
Unfortunately, you cannot. I've tried.
@@GeffyJeffy time to wait and try in chapter 3-
Spamton's shop music is the world revolving and the music that plays when you talk to jevil before finding the keys
The circus
I got to this bit on a Saturday night irl, so him saying [[On A Saturday Night]] actually spooked me.
Spamton calling for someone named "Mike" reminded me of that one time the FNaF fandom found a hidden sprite somewhere in the code that looked like a froggit (it looked like something from undertale) and it was named "Mike"
You forgot the "YOU WERE SO CLOSE" dialogue after you say no to buyog smth + the dialogue you get after bringing Spamton the emptyDisc
0:30
@@MisterJohnDoe oh no
He also has an extra dialouge when you buy the keygen, exit the shop and talk about the deal again before going to the basement
I love him he's such a little unhinged maniac
Havent seen this much atmosphere and character since majoras mask
I can't believe I missed out on so much Spamton in this chapter.
This character is unironically more tragic than the joker
When he talks about mike he talks about tv probably confirming mike is the tv from the end of chapter 2
I love him he's so DAMN cute even with his weird stuff
If I am going to be honest, Spamton is terrifying in the fear dialogue.
After he talks about mike, he says “Dont trust anything you see on TV”. I think mike is the TV in the end
2:25 Who is Mike.
many people don't know that if you select "our deal" again, he will say:
"* WHAT!? GO MYSELF?! KRIS!!!!! NO!!!!!
* THE MEN INSIDE WOULD
* THE MEN INSIDE WOULD"
2:53 we should help him
Nothing happens in your inventory (at least for me), except your armour space expands
"TAKE THIS DEAL AND YOU WILL [Die]"
in retrospect that wasn't exactly a LIE
He seems like a really cool guy
Spamton may seem like a silly and just wacky character. But underneath hides something absolutely terrifying. Like spamton is actually kinda scary. With a bit of a sad and tragic backstory to.
this guy gives me the chills
Spamton is definitely one of the best written characters I have ever seen. He is hilarious, creepy, and kind of a sad character. It's clear that Spamton has a "player" of his own, he is most likely being controlled. He has most likely gone insane because his "player" has been controlling him for so long he couldn't take it anymore, giving him delusions.
It has been quite a while since a character has unsettled me as much as Spamton does
Facts about Spamton:
Spamton wants a human soul to fix his corrupted speach.
After the normal Spamton fight he will talk normal but not in a corrupted way.
Spamton is shorter than his "friends" due to he was suffering in the acid pool.
Spamton says he wants to surpass someone who is the person is he
The person who is he is Mike.
Spamton tries to something about a knight but he couldn't continue and apologized to someone wich is perhaps Mike.
When Spamton says "We don't need Mike" wich he after says "Don't believe anything you see on TV"
After the end of chapter 2, Kris will summon a fountain and you will see Mike on TV.
While Kris summoned the fountain, Mike will be in the same world in the fountain.
Spamton used to be a top 1 sales man in 1997 but now he's not "big" anymore.
When you are gonna turn of the force field in the basement you'll see someone's face wich many believes it's Mike.
After all this may not be actually true but anyways.
I’ve realized that in the song, when the phone rings, the phone in the background actually would ring.
there is a part that sounds like the music of the gaster
Ok i love this dude now
I remember this fondly
2:38 (insert FNAF VHS criminal)
gaster is trying to call them abt his beat boxing
I cant be the only that hear the first notes of dark darker yet darker, might be a reach but i can’t unhear it
TAKE THE DEAL , AND YOU WILL GET ALL THE [dialogues] YOU CAN EAT!!
