- I love Spoon's dedication to Motorsports and the quality parts they make for the FK8 Civic Type R. Chassis mods I think can be misunderstood so today I try my best to explain why they are important and why the Spoon Rigid Collar and Stiff plate should be on your mod list. I also finally get in my rear J's Racing strut tower bar and also install some Runhard Industries grounding wires.

Love that you're building your car for a purpose unlike me who just threw a bunch of parts on it without really understanding it lol.
Phuong Le lol it didn’t start out that way, that’s for sure 😁
Its a neat part but to high in price for a $10 piece of stamped steel nice to see you back again.
Cindy Sue you make a good point. The way I see it, the brand name gives me confidence in the quality and research put into the finished product. And besides, I don’t recall the last time I had access to tools needed to stamp steel 😄
Interesting mod. First heard about this over on HondaPro Jason channel. I'll put this on my upgrade list. Thanks for your great review on this. Made it easy to understand how it works!
Elzear Tennant yeah that was my perspective. I really believe this is a great handling/ride improving mod but it is largely misunderstood
I just got rigid collars, spoon springs and whiteline antilift kit installed. Car feels so tight, I can't wait to get on track again!
Great combo
Great insights Michael 👍🏼 I've been building my Si with the same mindset; fast lap times without losing daily driver ability. All Whiteline suspension components, all Ultra Racing chassis bracing, and Spoon Rigid Collars Front and Rear awaiting install. Lighter wheels and sticky tires, and seat time goes without saying :)
Did the spoon rigid collars fit the si?
Very nice mod. I think every race car has to begin first with those mods, rigid collars and stiff plate to secure the structural rigidity. Brilliant car you have.
TK Thank you 🙏🏽
Awesome video brother 👍, very insightful!!
Thanks for the support 🙌
Well explained Sr. good video
Very informative video thanks again brother
Fast Toyz 👊🏽
Great vid! I think you will eventually reach all your goals for this build, it's just a matter of time. Definitely one of my favs to follow
Syrious Media 👊🏽
OMG, the eyeball disinfectant remark. 🤣🥴
Great video ! Ordered my spoon stiff plate , 3-5 month back order 😢
Yeah wait times are insane now!
SPOON PARTS!!!! hahah thanks for the informative video
suuuii 😂
I love the Sheldon cooper shirt
Diego Prado I hope you’re joking lol
Lol
I will get the Spoon rigid collars eventually. Did you upgrade your front sway bar? I have the Whiteline 22mm sway bar and upgraded both front and rear sway bar end links w Whiteline’s. I haven’t installed the front sway bar cause it involves dropping the sub frame and steering rack.
Ronald Batalla I don’t plan on getting a front sway bar because I want to tune the suspension for more rotation
Greased hole....BAZINGA😂
So did you have any issues down the line with the spoon stiff plate with the Remus front pipe? As for rattle i'm concern because I have the Remus Exhaust as well and soon will be tracking. Thanks
Did not notice any additional rattling from the stiff plate and the front pipe but honestly as stiff as I had that car with solid bushing made so much noise I don’t think it allowed me to hear anything else lol
How much weight can we take of a stock fk8 type r without taking out a/c and stereo? 300 kg? Lightweight wheels, brakes, suspension parts exhaust, seats vs? Is there super light suspension parts(like arms links) available for type r?
06 sb 90 you might be able to save close to 200lbs if you do everything you mentioned plus carbon fiber body panels
@@GridZilla not even 200kgs then. Would taking out airbags, abs / tcs / esp systems make any additional significant difference?
My mechanic said if I install rigid collar, I don't have to install strut and anti roll bar?
One thing has nothing to do with the other. Strut tower bars take it chassis flex, roll bars take out … body roll. Rigid collars take play out of the subframe so the suspension can work better.
Do you know the torque specs for the stiff plate bolts and for the rigid collar bolts? Anyone know if there is a picture from the service manual?
It’s been a while but we went with the torque specs from oem for the subframe bolts
So will any Honda dealership install aftermarket parts? Can I just go to my dealership and ask them to install stuff?
Marc Menasian some places do. Some places don’t but no matter what it won’t be covered by warranty
Yeah, I have a buddy who is the service manager and he usually hooks me up with their best techs.
How do you solve the problem of the stiff plate hitting the exausht??
Nah just lived with a little vibration and it wasn’t even noticeable since i already has everything else on the car so stiff
Doesn’t Cusco make their version of the stiff plate?
Just talked to Cusco rn. They don’t have any brace like the rigid collar. He said the most noticeable bar is the lower front bar for handling performance. About $200
What is the grounding wires for? Why did you do it?
Mainly a reliability mod. Not necessary but just nice to have. Better grounding wires means power to all systems is as efficient as possible which could means more reliable power output as well.
How about just buying a run around that’s decent to take the family out and just use the type r for the track that way you preserve the miles and longevity of this one of kind vehicle that will go down in history for all the right reasons .
corone2018 while I love the prospect of turning into an outright track only monster part of the appeal for me at least is seeing how competitive a road going vehicle can actually be vs track only flat bed garage queens 😁🏎💨😈
Do you happen to know the total weight of the rigid collar set?
Ryan McFarland no but it is insignificant. Even if they added 20 lbs to the car they would be worth the upgrade but I can’t imagine the entire set front and read even weighing a total of 1/2 lb
@@GridZilla Thanks!
Does it possible to build rigid collar from polyurethane to compromise NVH
focal polyglass the Collars aren’t thick enough to use a softer material. Sure you could do it but there would be zero gain in chassis rigid ness
Thanks that's ended my curiosity
You’re definitely a car guy naming your son a Ferrari car model 👍🏼
Ronald Batalla I had to sneak that one past the wife 😂
For crash purposes
I've installed a spoon rigid collar, and I'm planning to install a front subframe bar and a rear subframe brace from Sirimoto, will I enjoy the benefits of this brace? is the new brace subframe mount not needed?
All depends on where you want the balance the car to be
Just crazy expensive...
But so worth it
