I certainly believe the pros outweigh the cons. Being an Insurance Agent, like any job, takes time and consistency. There is a lot of groundwork at play especially if you are newly licensed and building your book. On the lowest days I remind myself of the flexibility I have over prior jobs and to keep pushing on because of residual income. Many Agents that I have met over time all live or have lived great lives by dedicating their careers to growing their book. In my own experience, I can only speak from the Commercial side of P&C Insurance. Best of luck to everyone out there grinding day in and day out!

Freedom of schedule is definitely one of the biggest upsides but I also see it as a double edged sword. It can be difficult to be accountable to a schedule especially if you’ve worked a 9-5 for so many years where your schedule is essentially handed to you.

In my current position, I can educate but can't sway a decision, which I am ok with that! I want to empower people with information so that they can decide what is best for them! Every person and family have different needs; it is essential for me to let them know what their options are so that they can make an educated decision.

I work at an agency as an account manager on the servicing side of things instead of selling. I process the renewal policies (bill them, review them, send them to the customer), I make policy changes, I answer the customers question and help when there are problems like if there’s a claim or a billing issue or their price goes up or they’re policy gets non-renewed or things like that. Sometimes I write new policies if the customer needs another policy or a new customer calls for insurance (but I’m not really soliciting new business). You usually make more money selling (if you’re decent at it that is) but a lot of people don’t like the pressure of selling and not everyone is successful at it.
