The fact that construction work is constantly behind schedule/not finished, is definitely the most realistic thing about the movie.
As a kid that had to catch the bus in the 1990s to go to school, the most realistic part for me is when Keanu is running beside the bus window pounding on the glass and the bus driver doesn't stop to let him on.
What do you mean, it does not take 2 years to repair 200ft of highway?
@@dennismoore2752 It really does sometimes.
.
I was shocked as all hell when I saw construction workers in Japan widen an entire street by 3 feet in a day and a half. That would have been a 6 month job in Baltimore 😂😂
The bus hitting the baby carriage always catches people off guard. Great scene!!!
I saw this in the theater and can confirm the entire audience _lost their minds_ at that moment until we saw the cans and realized we'd been faked out!
@@Roguefem76 same
Cans....there was no baby....I love that line lol.
Very reminiscent of, and I wonder if inspired by, the chase scene in "The French Connection" where Gene Hackman swerves to avoid the baby carriage at the last minute.

Speed was Sandra Bullock's breakout role. Most people had never heard of her, and once this came out, she was HUGE. I also wouldn't call this a "cult classic." It was a huge success, one of the biggest movies of the summer and the year. And it holds up pretty well as a unique action movie. Sure, there are aspects of it that are silly. But it's a barn-burner. I saw it in the theater. A great time.
lol shows how little you know she was in the Wesley snipes & Sylvester Stallon Demolition Man film as a cop if memory serves at least a year before she was part of speed.
yep demolition man was legit @@craighanson-rc1md
@@craighanson-rc1mdyes, but she didn't "break out" with that role, Speed is what shot her to stardom, which is what OP was saying.
@@craighanson-rc1md we need to work on your reading comprehension
Speed was definitely where people started to take notice of Sandra Bullock since it was her first real leading lady role. Then add The Net, While You Were Sleeping, and A Time To Kill right in a row after and those were her first big superstar roles and successes. Demolition Man, while good, wasn't as big a thing for her as Speed. Speed grossed over 10 times its budget at the box office.
During his acting days he was always a wonderful actor. Especially as the main bad guy...

Fun Fact: Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves revealed in an interview that they have always had massive crushes on each other, particularly after they made a film you would adore called "The Lake House".
I love The Lake House.
Yes you two would gush over the Lake house
Awesome movie!
Yes, The Lake House is a perfect movie for Cassie & Carly to react to!
I remember the lake house so well but i can not tell you one ounce of what actually happens. Please someone remind me what happens
Fun fact: Jumping the gap in the freeway was not in the original script. It was written in during filming when they were on location and saw it.
Ended up probably being the most iconic scene of the movie. Can't imagine Speed without it.
Also YES, it would "just go right down". 🤣
Nice
I saw the behind the scenes filming this. In real life, the bus had NO chance of making that jump.
But you were still clawing the armrest of your seat at the theater. Thus, brilliant filmmaking.
@@rhino3784 it's obvious without it
...but Hollywood keeps it up!
Not surprised that Alan Ruck's "oh, darn" line got the biggest laugh from these girls, since that's exactly what Cassie would've said into the phone at that moment too. 🤣
Keanu and Bullock had genuine puppy love in this movie. If only they took the chance.

If you want more Keanu *and* Patrick Swayze in a great summer action movie, then you've got to see *Point Break* - 100% pure adrenaline. But don't watch the relatively recent Point Break remake. Make sure you watch the 1991 original with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze.
Speed was a huge hit. Demolition Man and Speed are the movies that launched Sandra Bullock's career, but Speed was the bigger hit.
+1 Point Break
@@symbiosisai Youngblood.
Great 80s film.
"you haven't seen point break, you haven't seen bad boys 2" can start the Cornetto trilogy after point break as well
Love Demolition Man but it's more of a cult classic, even to this day. And how can you not love Bullock? She's great. I even watch Miss Congeniality for her role in it lol. Also funny that both her and Benjamin Bratt were in both.
Yeh definitely Point Break
Fun fact: Sandra Bullock actually learned to drive a bus for the film, passing her test on her first attempt. Great reaction ladies!👍
It's very easy to drive a bus.. Double stretch bus is another story good luck backing it up
Another fun fact they both had a crush on each other during this movie but never acted on it
Another fun fact: The Mytbbusters proved they could so the really sharp turn, where they all get on the one side.
unlike Annie, who in the opening of the second film is depicted as re-taking her driving test, having lost her license for speeding, and narrowly avoids getting wiped out by a bus "going way too fast".
Driving a bus is easy. That's not a fun fact. That's a boring fact.
I saw Speed in the theaters opening weekend. Theater was absolutely packed. The audience reacted the same exact way you two did at the scenes you showed. It's awesome to see this.
would have been great too see this in the theatres
Saw it too in a theater. When Payne was calling Jack via the pay phone to tell him about the rigged bus, the ringing was at first a subtle, off-to-the-side ringing...I thought an actual phone was ringing somewhere in the theater! I was annoyed, thinking of all times for a stupid, distracting phone to ring...then 2 seconds later...oh! Okay! Lol!
I would have loved to see this in theaters. What a blast that would have been.
Believe it or not, as a kid I saw this in the theater and when I got home I saw the news about a certain White Bronco containing an ex-NFL star in the backseat being chased by the LAPD. That will forever be my memory whenever I see this flick. You two are the best reactors by far.
Wow. That’s gotta be a vivid memory.
Man I loved the 90s best era every
Came out a week before the infamous June 17, 1994 OJ chase.
SAME!!! My then future wife and I were visiting friends in Connecticut and she went shopping and dropped me at the theatre. They picked me back up, we went home and the slow speed chase was on every damn channel!
This is the 1994iest memory ever 😆
Always loved in Seinfeld where George's father was trying to describe the movie "The Net" and he says, "you know, the one with the woman from the bus".
I always call her that because of that line!
Last night I saw a provocative film called the Net with that girl from the bus.
I saw this movie about a bus that had to SPEED around a city, keeping its SPEED over fifty, and if its SPEED dropped, it would explode! I think it was called... “The Bus That Couldn’t Slow Down.”
"Woah, it's like Speed 2, only with a bus instead of a boat"
Nice Simpsons reference
Homer Simpson
😀
The best spoof is the 'Speed 3' episode of Father Ted.
When I saw this in theatre when it was released, you could feel the whole audience hold their breath during the baby carriage scene. I'm thinking "there's no way they can have a baby die". Then the collective sigh of relief after. So memorable.
Popcorn in Bed is a very entertaining channel. I just discovered it a couple days ago and have already watched 6 movie reactions. The editing and commentary are easily the best on You Tube. Thanks for creating great content to keep our minds off the negativity that seems to be everywhere, these days.
“But he looks like such a nice guy” - when you’ve never seen a Dennis Hopper movie.
This was great fun to see in the theater. The bus jump was epic.
They should watch Blue Velvet, lol.
Cassie was also the one that called Norman Bates cute...lol
Dennis Hopper is almost never a nice guy, and certainly not a normal guy.
@@ATWDigital To be fair, casting Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates was a stroke of gehius because he won over the female part of the audience instantaneously when Psycho came out.
Dennis Hopper in True Romance! He really was a nice guy
Years later, both Keanu and Sandra commented separately in interviews that their chemistry in the movie was 100% real. She actually very much wanted to initiate a relationship with him, and he was completely open to the notion, but he didn't pursue her because he's a considerate guy of his coworkers, and she didn't pursue him because she thought he was out of her league.
Changing that is one of the things on my time-travel changes list. I wonder what would change just by having two such prominent (and sincerely good) figures end up together.
You have just created a riff in space time, you Dingus.
Worth it!
She never even implied she wanted to initiate a conversation him. All she said was that they never dated and made a joke about there being something about her he didn't like. You'd adding a whole lot of details to this that simply don't exist.
My sister was so obsessed with this movie that she would rent it every week from the video shop. The owner of the shop gave it to her in the end 🤣 Keanu Reeves is so hot in this 🥰🥰
“I liked Keanu Reeves in Dracula”
I never thought I would live to hear anyone actually say that
I can't even explain the hype back in the day watching this in the theater opening night!
Before the internet hype, social media, spoilers, and endless crappy sequels & reboots it was such a gem.
Right? Watching this with a crowd was a RIDE!
I watched out right out of basic, and the remember the excitement of the theater crowd, it was great. That movie experience is still strong in my mind.
I saw it opening day with my sister and mom who was so hyped for it that she kept us home from school so we could make a day of it. My mom loved action movies and this was one of her favorites.
Well, this one had a crappy sequel. REALLY CRAPPY.
I saw Speed in the theater of 1994. I was 19. This movie was such a big deal that year. Best movie experience I ever had.
Keanu's best friend, River Phoenix, died right before filming started. They were nice enough to delay - but Keanu said that he really got a lot of "therapy" doing this movie. He had a lot of emotion he was able to release into the character.
Interesting. I wonder if that had something to do with why he didn't act on his crush on Bullock.
River didn’t just died, it was reported he killed himself by either overdose or something else since there was no mention of murder (I don’t remember the full story). He has played many roles but I’m familiar with his roles as NIKITA and Young Indiana Jones.
@@ellie_jeann He is most famously known for being in Stand By Me.
@@ellie_jeann Can't forget about Stand By Me and Explorers.
@@ellie_jeann As far as I know he didn't kill himself. He took an overdose accidentally in a club and died, because someone thought it was a good idea to give him adrenaline. At least that was what I heard in a documentary.
If you liked Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock together you should really watch The Lake House if you haven’t seen it. I think you both would love it, it’s a much more slower paced love story but very sweet, highly recommend. It also shows a more softer side of Keanu Reeves that we usually don’t get to see in his other films, beautiful film!
The lake house is one of my four favorite movies of Reeves, besides, this, Constantine, and Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
But I have The Lake House on Blu-ray.
When Hopper’s character, side, head, stabs, that guy, I’m sorry I forget the woman’s name on the right, the friend, but I’ve seen enough of these videos by now to know that she has very humorously sensitive reactions to moments like that, and I knew she would react, I just didn’t know how and when she wasn’t prepared for it I kind of laughed when she covered her eyes. 😄
The Lake House is a movie that was done years later with both Reeves and Bullock that’s more of a slow, growing love story in a time, travel kind of way, but it’s one of four of Reeve’s favorite movies of mine, that I own on Blu-ray, that if you can understand the way, the movie progresses itself, I think you would like it because it’s actually an intimate/love story between them other than the flirting they do in this movie.
Or if you just want Keanu Reeves in a romantic film - I thought A Walk in the Clouds was his most romantic film. Gorgeous movie.
@@wittleMermaid13yeah, i loved that one too❤
The Lake house is another of my all time favourite movies along with Speed!!!! This was a great review.
That chemistry between Sandra and Keanu was real. They both admitted years later that they both had crushes on each other while filming. ❤
A perfect summer movie is a movie that has it all: humor, action, suspense, and romance. That’s why I think “Speed” is the perfect summer movie. It flawlessly blends all these elements due, in part, to casting actors who are skilled at both comedy and drama (e.g., Sandra Bullock, Dennis Hopper, Jeff Daniels). Bullock, in particular, adds so much to the film's humor, suspense, and romance. Her chemistry with Keanu was fantastic. There’s a reason why she became America’s sweetheart after this movie.
not bad for a B movie!
You forgot to mention boobies.

Thank you for reminding me that Speed is actually a really good movie! The bus jump was an immersion breaker but we'll let that one slide :)
The funny part is they actually jumped a real bus to make that scene and they digitally removed the road afterwards, I saw it FOREVER ago on a show called movie magic that would go into behind the scenes details of the special effects of movies, specifically the practical effects like blood squibs, car jumps, gas bombs, miniatures. It was an amazing show that I used to watch as a kid.
You two are the perfect duo, one says something or asks a question and the other immediately answers. "Is he eating right now?!! Carly smiles, "he's probably trying to sober up" hahahaha love the content
A couple of years ago, in separate interviews Sandra and Keanu both admitted that while filming 'Speed' they had developed crushes on each other, but they NEVER did anything about it. They reteamed for a drama called 'The Lake House' in 2006, which is a very romantic film with a weird twist.
Dennis Hopper made a career out of oddball characters like the bomber in this...he was terrifying in the David Lynch film 'Blue Velvet', heartbreaking in 'Hoosiers', and his career goes all the way back to doing two films with James Dean in the 1950s...'Rebel Without A Cause' and 'Giant' with Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor. He was also a director with the classic 'Easy Rider' which co-starred in with Peter Fonda and Jack Nicolson.
Sandra did a sequel film that took place on a cruise ship (Speed 2: Cruise Control)...my advice is IGNORE IT. However, you should watch 'Twister' which is also directed by Jan de Bont (who directed this) and stars Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton.
Don't forget Hopper's role in 'Apocalypse Now' where he was trying to describe Marlon Brando's Col. Kurtz to Martin Sheen. Hopper was an interesting actor.
How much better off they'd have been, perhaps, if they DID act on that crush.
@@chrismaverick9828 He also played King Koopa in Super Mario Bros...I dragged my poor parents to see that one back in the early 90s
Dennis Hopper was the main villian in George Romero's Land of the Dead. He always loved George's zombie movies and asked to be in it.

I thought they went as far as they could with the jump, then I thought the action was over when the bus blew up, and then I could only laugh out loud in the theatre when I realised that they were on *another* runaway vehicle. 🤣
But I had to hand it to movie critic Roger Ebert who gave it a maximum four stars and wrote: "Can a bus jump 50 feet? This is the kind of movie where you don't ask that question."
I've said this before, but Speed is the one movie where *you can't believe you watched it 28 years ago in the theater!!* It's not that it's aged well: It hasn't aged at all. Same with Keanu and Sandra dang near.
I certainly remember regretting ordering a large soda. Got about 30-40 minutes into it at the theater, had to use the restroom, and held it the entire movie cause there was no way I was missing anything. And then I exploded.
I love the few movies that have you locked into a single area like here with the bus with rear window and a few other movies that it solely relays on the actors to make it believable then you Aldo have TV shows that will do it for budget purposes
They really need to do Speed 3 with both of them, since they've aged so well. It could be as big a hit as Maverick.
Cassie's reaction to the head coming off was hysterical and Carly not being able to watch it was classic lol. Great reaction!

What I'm loving about PIB is getting a woman's perspective on some of my favorite movies. For example, I never would have noticed the "low level flirting" that you pointed out. Plus when you mentioned how much pressure was on Annie when Jack slid under the bus at the airport to defuse the bomb. There are many subtle emotional comments you made that I found enlightening!💡

Dennis Hopper (Howard) was in a lot of iconic movies, including Rebel Without a Cause, Giant, The Sons of Katie Elder, Cool Hand Luke, Easy Rider, True Grit (the 1969 version), Apocalypse Now, Blue Velvet, Hoosiers, and True Romance. Of all these, I'd most like to see Cassie and Carly react to Cool Hand Luke.
you gotta love how Cassie is constantly asking Carly questions & of course, Carly always responds with an honest ""i don't know". I love this channel
Even though Sandra Bullock had been appearing in films for a few years it was this film that really put her on the map in terms of being a real "star" and leading lady. It was her big breakthrough. She stole the film, but it also did benefit Keanu in that it gave him credibility as an action hero as opposed to just a pretty boy or goofball type. It opened up more mature roles for him.
Yeah. You can't compare 'Bill and Ted' to 'Speed' or 'Point Break'. Really changed his acting roles.
"but it also did benefit Keanu in that it gave him credibility as an action hero" He did that a few years earlier with "Point Break", I think. PB was a very underrated movie that pulled triple-duty: action movie, bank heist/police (FBI) procedural, and love story.
"Point Break" was fine but it was still more of a Patrick Swayze movie if not a buddy movie. "Speed" gave Reeves a more mature action hero leading man role (though Bullock ended up stealing the film).

Iam pretty sure thats not how gravity works. Or psysics. The still have forward momentum that has to be expended somehow. So its plausible. Depends on how elevated i would be.
@@laigron7884 True, there would be forward momentum. The problem is that the bus starts falling the moment its front tires leave the road, and there's no way a rationally-designed road would have enough of an elevation change over that short of a span to accommodate the resulting fall. The other problem is that the front tires become unsupported long before the rear tires do, so the bus starts to tilt/tumble forward. Bad news all around. Without a ramp or some other introduction of upward momentum, this isn't gonna work.

It is just a pleasure to watch them reacting to various movies, the way they talk and interact with each other... personally I find it refreshing! Just a natural responses from two people.
And if they don't like something, they will definitely let us know about it (judging by their own reaction). But it all seems very natural, no exaggeration there at all (like with some other channels). All in all, I'm glad I found this channel!
@@tannhauser5399 Then you are very lucky, because there is a lot of content you have yet to enjoy! Cassie is awesome, and Carly is a perfect compliment to her😊
I wanna see these two react to "superbad" and "knocked up"
As grisly as it was to watch the scene with Jack and Payne on the top of the subway, I loved the dialogue: Payne: "I'm smarter than you Jack, I'm smarter! I'm smarter!" Then after he goes, Jack's like "Yeah....but I'm taller."
I loved this movie when it came... last year I showed it to my adult daughter. She accused me of giving her at least ten heart attacks :p So fun watching you guys watch this!
"People on Patreon said: You will love it. Have Carly watch it with you. You'll love it. They're usually right."
They're right. Speed is one o' those really great, well-written/cast/performed/executed films, that made a big splash when it released, then kinda just got mysteriously forgotten a few short years later for no good reason, until being kinda introduced to a new generation, mainly through youtuber reactions.
Films that seem to be slightly forgotten? Quick someone recommend The Crow lol
One of my favorites growing up. I love that old movies are getting new love. Brings me joy. ❤
This is one of those classic summer blockbusters. It has it all. Action. Comedy. Keanu. Stupid stunts. Dennis Hopper. Explosions. impossibly clear Los Angeles traffic. Gotta love it.
besides an epic "edge of your seat" action thriller, the music to this movie just makes it 100% adrenaline perfection
Dennis Hopper has played so many iconic villains. A true master of his craft he was
As a kid in the 90's I rented this movie alot. Keanu was always the man.
This was Jan De Bont's directorial debut - he was a cinematographer, I think - and it's a trademark of his style. His second best is "Twister" which, at the time if it's release, boasted some of the best vfx ever produced.
Yes he was the DP for Diehard.
And he was the cinematographer on Die Hard, so his action movie credentials are top notch.
Twister was one of the first films released on DVD. It was also a very good action film.
Twister's effects still hold up.
Love Twister 🌪️
Fun fact, the reason there was some low-key flirting going on, is because Keanu and Sandra actually had an interest in the other. They each didnt find out/reveal this to the public, until years later.
The part where they jump the highway always has me screaming ' everyone, move to the back!'
Just wanted to say, as wonderful as Cassie's reactions are, I love it when Carly is involved.
Same here. I feel like it would be so much fun watching a movie with these ladies.
@@blendezfamily8727 Or a concert. They seem like they'd be the types that enjoy themselves.
Both are cute and down to earth.
Sandra Bullock having a crush on Keanu Reeves, not knowing he had a crush on her - their words. 🤣
Fun fact: Speed is known as "the bomb on the bus" movie, but only about half of its 2 hour running time actually takes place on the bus. Much more time is spent on the first and final acts as well as the end credits than people tend to remember. OH, and you said Dennis Hopper looks like a nice guy. Watch Blue Velvet. You'll never look at him the same again.
"his head came off!" 🤣
it sure did.
🤯 "F*ck Me"
😐 "Oh Darn"
Such a funny scene.
YES ! Cassie got past the FALSE copyright claim 😁👍
Is that what was holding her up?! Did she post about that?
@@chadbailey7038 yes she did. They held it for 2 hours accorrding to the post.
It is bizarre how some channels get claimed constantly, but others can show 2x more content and are left alone. I've seen large channels have livestreams shut down 30 seconds into a video, but others stream hours showing the SAME THING.
@@chadbailey7038 Yeah, if you click on her channel then "Community" tab she wrote a message today about it.
@@clevelandcbi yeah, bigger the channel, the more they get harassed it seems 😒
SOMEHOW, I knew they'd love Alan Ruck with the "Ohhh darn..." line. 🤣😂🤣
I remember my mom renting this at Blockbuster (dating myself but oh well) on a Friday night. It started out with me and her watching it. By the time it ended, everyone in the house was watching and cheering.
Both Sandra and Keanu admitted to having crushes on each other during the making of this film a few decades after this film. Neither of them knew the other had a crush at the time.
I’ve seen both of their interviews talking about it and the shock when they found out the other also had a crush.
The lady who plays poor Helen is a family friend and she’s been in sooooo many movies, big movies! She became really good friends with Sandra and played her Mom in another movie. The lady I’m talking about is Beth Grant and she’s freakin amazing.
She is also in Twister, which someone recommended and I agree you both would enjoy
I adore her! She always stands out, Donnie Darko in particular comes to mind.
@@vly9257 I think I've also seen her in another Sandra Bullock film, _A Time to Kill_ (recognised her from _Speed_ though).
Wasn't she a homeless lady in an episode of Friends?
@@broken927 She was in an episode of friends.
It’s more like what shows wasn’t she in if you look at her IMDb page lol.
That insane entrance where they launch the Caprice is so hilarious.
I just want to say, at least in America, elevators are obscenely safe. Safest part of the building. The few elevator-deaths that occur are almost entirely elevator technicians, and the remainder are basically when people try to exit an elevator that has gotten stuck between floors, instead of just waiting for the elevator to be repaired while they wait safely inside. Simple rule to follow: if an elevator is at a floor, exit. Otherwise, stay inside it.
Everyone in the theater went nuts when the bus jumped the gap. It was one amazing audience.
i would have had another opinion...lol
@RJ It ran over a dead possum.
@RJ the bus has a 40 inch vertical leap
Jeff Daniels filmed this and Dumb and Dumber at the same time.. his character in both is named Harry. Fun fact, they actually jumped a real bus for that scene.. on flat ground with a ramp, but it did actually go over 100 feet. It also had to be filmed twice because the first time the stunt driver missed the ramp and crashed the bus. The crew didn't want to tell the studio so they quickly found a replacement bus and re filmed it two days later (20th Century Studios didn't find out about the wrecked bus until after the movie was in theaters). The second jump went way further than expected and landed on a very expensive camera which was destroyed.. and was also owned by the studio lol.
And the stunt driver almost bit off his tongue landing the bus.
Fun fact. Both Sandra and Keanu had crushes on each other and neither of them knew about it.
Here's a sweet story. Just when Keanu Reeves was about to start working on this film, his best friend, River Phoenix sadly died from a drug overdose, and director Jan de Bont could tell that he was so grief-stricken that he kindly offered to film the more softer scenes as Jack while he dealt with the loss of his friend. After that, Keanu Reeves had the courage to film the more intense scenes.
OH wow. Yea River had just passed away that year. I just rewatched it and struck me how Jack comforted Alan Ruck's character after the bus landing.
Excited for this reaction. One of my favorite action movies of all time.
Mine too, i can't believe she has not seen this.
I like how in the underground explosion, Harry falls right at the foot of the door to the garage when Jack shoots his leg. When the garage explodes a split second later, you see Jack fly back but Harry isn't there
When Jack and Payne are wrestling on top of the subway…
CARLY: I can’t watch.
CASSIE: Oh! Oh! Ew! His head came off!!
I laughed so hard, I had to rewind it and watch it again! You two are hilarious.
Carlie"you watched a movie called Dracula"
Cassie"yeah"
Carlie " I don't even know who you are anymore" 😂😂😂😂
I don't get it
I remember watching speed as a kid thinking it was just some boring movie and then out of nowhere I realized that there's a bomb on the bus and the movie went from 0 to 100 real quick for me....great times
Movies like this can't be made today in Hollywood.
“I feel like they should just give him the money”
NEVER negotiate with terrorists. Give in once and it will just encourage others to attempt similar things.
(5:23) Yes. The L.A.P.D has had a bomb squad since 1950.
(27:04) No, that was not a plane full of people. It said Pacific Courier Freight, meaning that it was a cargo plane. Thankfully the guy driving the tug that was taxiing the plane jumped out and ran away, so he’s okay.
I never got why reactors always wonder if the plane is full of people.
You both need to watch Keanu opposite Patrick Swayze in "Point Break". Another summer classic.
"He looks like a nice guy, what's his deal...?" Haha so innocent.
The 50 foot jump.... we've been giving that scene hell for 25 years lol....
Excellent reactions, ladies! Always fun to see you two together enjoying a movie.
This was a big hit in the summer of 1994 and quickly became a classic! Back then the entertainment press made a lot about how it had been referred to throughout the film industry as “Die Hard On A Bus,” and it may have actually been pitched that way to various studios before 20th Century Fox (the same studio that had made DIE HARD (1988), of course) bought the screenplay and gave the production the green light.
Lots of fun and as you can see, the film still holds up today, almost 30 years later!
Probably also due to Jan DeBont being Director of Photography on Die Hard too.
