Hey Matt i love this style of review, i think it is genius. You honestly touched about almost everything that i am particularly looking for in a laptop. Sometime i would struggle constantly looking for all the youtube videos just to find the 1 demo feature ex: Sound noise. You did a great job showing the sound decibels.. however you didn't record the sound at each stages of workload. Some laptop fans make these highpitch sounds some are quite bearable within the same decibel.
Did you make sure to switch from your dedicated card to the graphics on the APU to extend battery life? With that in mind I've seen battery tests as high as 10 hours
How to make sure which model has switchable graphics? I intend to buy 15-ek0004ne model with intel i7 rtx 2060 and i dont know if it has switchable graphics or not🤔😥
@@shurbagirl I also like to use ThrottleStop and configure my power plan so that my cpu will down clock when on battery power, if you want a guide on how to do this, just email me at damianb32002@gmail.com
@@shurbagirl Personally, I would opt for an AMD model, as they are more power efficient and run at cooler temperatures than Intel chips at the moment, the 8 Core 4800H should also outperform the 6 Core 10750H, which the 10750H if you have it running at max clocks 24/7, will most likely thermal throttle, limiting performance. On paper the 10750H should outperform the Ryzen 7 In terms of gaming, where Single Core clock speeds being more relevant atm than multi core clock speeds, but thermal throttling will let the AMD pull ahead. AMD laptops are also usually cheaper than Intel. I'm still rocking my Mag 15 with a 9750H and 1660Ti, no power or thermal throttling, though it took a lot of tinkering into Throttlestop to fix that, now my CPU runs at the 92nd Percentile (My CPU outperforms all but 8 of the same CPU in different systems) and my GPU at the 98th percentile (outperforms all but 2 of the same card)
I have a couple of questions. Would this be good for taking to class, even with the short battery life? My other question is just how good is the Optane on the SSD?
I found your channel yesterday and I gotta say you cover more than other tech reviewers and a answer questions something I really like thank you for the cool content
If you want a more subtle look (less gamer, good if you’re bringing to school/work) go for this one, but if you want a more gaming look laptop, go for the acer predator. They’re both similar in performance.
@@fritolaid6805 ACER has slightly better build than the Omen 15 but in hall honesty the Omen is overall a better spec'd machine for the price. I think both are the same price or right next to each other. The Omen also runs slightly cooler. I mean the ACER Predator is an older model so overall it's expected to be worse than the Omen.
Aussie Battler how is the fan sound? I watched jarrods tech and he complimented the low temps but said the fans are kinda louder than other AMD laptops
0:56 there is no such thing as a plastic display (unless you mean OLED on a plastic substrate w/ plastic screen, like on foldable phones) all LCD's are glass sandwiches.
Yeah, that seemed way louder than normal. My tuf a15 in balance/performance(mid) mode idles at 2300rpm and then 4800 at full load. Turbo mode can go up to 5500rpm under full load, but I rarely see it go that high. If the hp omen’s fans go to 5800rpm and it’s always idling at a faster rpm, no wonder it stays cooler.
I have the 2020 version and due to reviews like this i bought it and i am super unhappy, the laptops is plagued with issues, like constant bsod crashes, the drivers are not getting updates, bad linux support, before the last bios update the wifi card was always disabled after sleep and you had to restart the computer, also usb c external monitor didn't work, also constant issues with sound. If i could choose i would avoid this brand, they do not give a fuck about regular users, their main business is selling huge quantities to businesses, they do not support customer laptops.
I haven’t had any of those issues, I’ve got the intel i7 10th Gen with the RTX 2060. Haven’t noticed any over heating. If you’re having those issues then maybe some were shipped it with bad chargers 🤷♀️
Cons: subpar battery life and it's default ongoing fan that never shuts off completely, unless you go under ~ 10 % CPU and GPU which you can only do if you for example watch a movie/video in VLC/Media player or watch a RUclips video for a while. But as soon as you start to browse internet, open tons of fans etc the fan comes on automatically which is annoying (even in comfort mode). Also sometimes when I'm not doing anything the fan will start up and go crazy or loud for a few second before shutting down. Fan under heavy load is normal or noisy (IMO). Temperature wise, this machine will stay cool no matter what, but tbh I don't really care for this I just wish it wouldn't be so noisy and be completely silent during light tasks. Specs: AMD, 144 hz, 16 GB RAM, memory speed: 3200. Wifi 6 (wtf even is this? haven't noticed anything special.)
I just realised that the version imported to my country, Malaysia has numpad on the keyboard. However, the variant that is available in my country so far by the time this comment is made is only Intel Core i5 + NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650.
Charlie Correa Ok I hate this. AMD is amazing but people have to remember that Intel is still in the game. People go see reviews and see that AMD has tons of performance and automatically side with AMD (like this comment). But the Intel i7 1065G7 is from 2019 and compared to the AMD Ryzen 7 4700U from this year has, on average 15% more performance. But the Intel’s single core and dual core speed is still faster. So hypothetically some games will run better on the Intel CPU because it only uses a single core (multithreaded games are hard to code). Although the 4700U shreds in multicore applications, it has 4 more cores. FOUR MORE. 15% increase with 4 MORE CORES. Nonetheless this shows that Intel is still capable and that people should do their research.
@@user-qk8rt9yf9v no one is saying Intel is down and out, but they are an extremely anti- competitive company. They artificially lock down "features" to get more money out of you. They haven't put a decent cooler on a chip in ages. In order to keep the "GHz" advantage they crank the power to 100 causing people to need to Delid their chips to cool them down properly. They paid Dell to not use AMD. They definitely hired a Russian company to put a hit piece on AMD saying their stock should he valued at 0 and that they exposed a vulnerability called "ryzenfall" that someone needed admin access to exploit.. They promised 10nm years ago. They market their products and say it is better while using a better video card. Stuff like this is why you shouldn't have pity for intel. Not yet at least. Let AMD and Intel be 50-50 and then we can start feeling sorry for the 10,000 pound gorilla that has stagnated technology to squeeze out more money out of its consumers. It's like people have Stockholm syndrome with Intel and always defend the hand that slaps them.
@@user-qk8rt9yf9v intel still in the game is nonsense. The 1065G7 is a low powered 10nm chipset that cant even outperform a 4 year old 7700hq. Comparing low powered ultrabook chips to make your point? Lets compare the performance chips, 4800h from AMD and the 10875 h from intel, the 4800h rips it apart in almost everything and equals it on single core loads. Intel might still be capable but they have to prove it, as consumers we need these two to compete obviously but right now, intel hasnt offered jack. Oh, and i wont even get into how some of theyre desktop chips are horrendously expensive
Wooosh If Gay 1065g7 is 4c8t, 4700u is 8c8t without SMT. Based on notebookcheck 4700u has 103% perf single core, 169% multicore cinebench r20 compared to 1065g7. Most important: 1065g7 is more expensive than 4700u and 4700u is not the best AMD cpu. 4800u are the strongest 15w cpu up to now.
Nguyen Dinh Of course it has way more performance in multi core applications it has FOUR MORE CORES. cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-1065G7-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-4700U/m888368vsm1105478 it beats the 1065G7 in only quad core and outa core applications cause who guessed it, it has 4 MORE CORES. But the 1065G7 beats it still in dual core and single core applications. And it was released a year ago.
The flex is bad not because it will have a bad effect on the screen, but because it will eventually damage the hinge, by applying downward force on it. In fact, if the screen is flexible and spongy enough, it will be good for the hinge.

I've just pre-ordered HP Omen with R7 4800H + RTX 2060. Stuff will come next september i think (as far as i know, this specs available in southeast asian market)
I just purchased the AMD 16gb version. Using the lastest version of corel painter it takes a 40 x 40 inch 300dpi image with multiple layers painted with max sized brushes before it starts showing any noticable lag. And according to steams VR test its VR ready.
I really like this format. It seems more like a conversation with us, covering our issues. I would buy but there only seems to be one SKU in the UK. Though I recommended it to my friend in Canada who bought it last month.
So, I’m guessing the Omen control center has been updated with more performance modes. I bought the 2019 model, I’m still waiting for it to come in the mail, is the new update available for that model too?
I was thinking about getting the 4800h version, but I found that the brightness can get stuck at max and that the vents could develop a constant high pitch noise, how common are those?
Nice Review, thank you. I especially appreciate you explaining the balance mode as I am in the grey area on whether to go with Intel or AMD. There is currently a great deal on Amazon but with an Intel processor which gave me pause as too high operating CPU temperatures was worrisome to me. Matthew, since you explained the balance mode feature, I know that I can just choose that option and not worry about too high CPU temperatures. Thank you,
Great video! I get the 10300h+RTX2060 144hz model and only question left is thermals. I mean, what would I lose to switch balanced mode? Like 4-5 fps or more? Also, %10 undervolt will give me under 85°? And finally, any chance 10300h-144hz model gets less hot than 10750h variant? Thanks in advance video was super helpful.
Got the AMD ryzen 7 1660ti. Love this laptop. Best out there for the price. Runs games like valorant like butter. COD runs smooth but not at highest settings. Overall great laptop, only complaint so far is I wish the brightness was a little bit brighter, but it’s still very good as it is
i have the i7 rtx 2060 300 hz version. Laptop runs great, every game is over 120 fps. The issue is the temps. They easily go over 90-95+ degrees on the cpu on games like warzone, overwatch, rainbow six siege and then games like LoL hit around 80 or so. They aren't constantly over 90 but stays around there for awhile. To fix this, download throttlestop and disable turboobost, now my temps don't go past 75%
I put a piece of the carboard box of the packaging between the screen and keyboard. It reduces screen flex by a whole bunch and I have much more confidence to put it in a bag. Ofcourse when I turn it on I put it away
Been using my hp omen 15 for 2 years now, the only way to reduce the cpu temps is by undervolting. I used to get 97 degrees and after undervolting i get 89-91 degrees
hi matthew, great review, however i saw in the video the temperature pushes to 97 deg C which is damaging the internal parts of Laptop, but is that the HP has max temp limits above 100 deg c and so we can get best permonance out of it or its better to play at lower temp?

1:26 that's a good point, however don't try playing demanding games with the lid closed. The temps go much higher, much faster with the lid closed. At least in my experience with the i7 & rtx 3070. It gets hot.
5:05 just how cold is your environment to get that temperature :p
I've been looking for a laptop for occasional gaming but will, for the most part, be using it for content creation like Adobe illustrator, photoshop, premiere pro. Would you recommend this laptop for that purpose?
Just got the AMD Ryzen 7 (1660Ti) with the 144hz screen. Its great. In Dave2d's video, he said the screen hinge was loose, but I did not experience that in my model.
Same here. The hinge on my unit was perfect.
@@Josh-pt1yr hey man should I worry about the screen flex?
I personally LOVE this laptop! It's a sexy beast. I upgraded it to 64gigs of ram and 2TB SSD
64 is overkill
That's the style ... Clearing the questions...
Keep this up Matt 😉
Can you switch between integrated and dedicated graphic for better battery life?
Please do a review of the AMD model. Thank you!
I gotta question doe. If this gonna be for my primary gaming. And I’m gonna use a Xbox controller. N I’m mostly gonna be playing COD n FORTNITE. N probably fifa or 2k. Would this be worth it until like next year I get a high end PC..?
Your take on this review is amazing! I like the style that interacts with your audience keep it up!
Is the 300 nits display exclusive to Intel models like the Legion 5i?
I have a couple of questions. Would this be good for taking to class, even with the short battery life? My other question is just how good is the Optane on the SSD?
Which is the better alternative of Omen 15 ?
Please do compare it with the AMD model 🙏🏽
I found your channel yesterday and I gotta say you cover more than other tech reviewers and a answer questions something I really like thank you for the cool content
Awesome! Thank you!
I had a question, could you tell between lenovo legion 5 and hp omen 15, which is better?
This^
Any answer guys?
I also think about that, which one is better I should buy one and I am not sure. please somebody helppp
what is better zephyrus 14 or omen 15???
Would you pick the HP OMEN 15 over the ACER Predator Helios 300 ? I'm having a hard time picking between the two
If you want a more subtle look (less gamer, good if you’re bringing to school/work) go for this one, but if you want a more gaming look laptop, go for the acer predator. They’re both similar in performance.
Which one has a better build? The omen 15 lid was pretty soft
My omen 15 with 16gb ram 1660ti gtx ryzen 7 4800 is great had it for a mth and a half runs like a beast
Aussie Battler how is the fan sound? I watched jarrods tech and he complimented the low temps but said the fans are kinda louder than other AMD laptops
Should I be worried the dust and other stuff getting inside the laptop since it has massive vents?
Not really you can always remove the back plate and clean any dust
Matthew please help me here!
Which of the display outputs are connected to the RTX GPU?
The hdmi out port
0:56 there is no such thing as a plastic display (unless you mean OLED on a plastic substrate w/ plastic screen, like on foldable phones) all LCD's are glass sandwiches.
For the Omen with the 4800H I read that the fan noise is about 34db in idle mode. Your values with the Intel are much higher.
You don't even hear it unless a game is played in performance mode
Yeah, that seemed way louder than normal. My tuf a15 in balance/performance(mid) mode idles at 2300rpm and then 4800 at full load. Turbo mode can go up to 5500rpm under full load, but I rarely see it go that high.
If the hp omen’s fans go to 5800rpm and it’s always idling at a faster rpm, no wonder it stays cooler.
if you are doing 3d modeling and some video editing will you need to place the unit in balance mode as well to prevent the higher temps
If i could choose i would avoid this brand, they do not give a fuck about regular users, their main business is selling huge quantities to businesses, they do not support customer laptops.
thanks for the comment. what would you have bought instead?
@@wa8d4g8i7 I think lenovo legion 5 pro
I guess we all want an AMD version review and comparison
Have you had any problems with the charger overheating?
I haven’t had any of those issues, I’ve got the intel i7 10th Gen with the RTX 2060. Haven’t noticed any over heating. If you’re having those issues then maybe some were shipped it with bad chargers 🤷♀️
Should have gotten the OLED version and check how the coating quality is in comparison to other non touch OLED panels on other laptops.
Please review Dell G5 15 Se (ryzen 5 mod.) Next!!!
Forget the G5 15 Se it gets hot 100 degrees Celsius it is really bad if u want use that for 2 even 1 year
Alireza Temori correct. That’s why I didint get it.
You know you're watching a Mathew Moniz video when the first word of every other sentence is yelled out
Gotta make sure you’re awake!
which one is the best the AMD version or the Intel version
4:01 arrow keys.
I just realised that the version imported to my country, Malaysia has numpad on the keyboard. However, the variant that is available in my country so far by the time this comment is made is only Intel Core i5 + NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650.
Heh, finally a review that tells the TRUTH !
I have no question ,you have cleared it all . But please create an AMD VS INTEL for this laptop either with rtx 2060 // rtx 2070.
ewww intel... where is the AMD Ryzen version. intel is no longer exciting, AMD is actually bringing tons of performance to the table.
Matthew's and Dave's review on this is the best
Loved your video ;first youtuber according to me who took the general quiries of the people and helped them decide to take the right choice ( congrats you have earned one more subscriber)
I have the exact same laptop. Super happy with it. Great laptop for games and just to chill in general.
What a great video format, original and tackles real consumer concerns
Is this laptop with 1650ti/1660ti and 60 hz display good for revit, autocad, vray or other Architecture software ?
Yes, please made a comparison between amd model and intel model.
Just do all your reviews like this. Its so original.
man love the way your interact w us
I like the format. Answers user's questions instead of pointing out flaws that only 0.09% people care about. Please also review the ASUS ZEPHYRUS M15.
The Matt Moniz Q&A, I’m digging it. Keep it up!
Great format. I already ordered mine. Can't wait to for it to arrive.
I bought this laptop after watching this video. Thank you for your effort. HP Omen 15 is great but the fan noice is a novelty to me. This is my first gaming laptop. I hope I can get used to it.
Others said that the battery life able to run for 4.5-6 hours
I've just pre-ordered HP Omen with R7 4800H + RTX 2060. Stuff will come next september i think (as far as i know, this specs available in southeast asian market)
I just purchased the AMD 16gb version. Using the lastest version of corel painter it takes a 40 x 40 inch 300dpi image with multiple layers painted with max sized brushes before it starts showing any noticable lag. And according to steams VR test its VR ready.
The only reviewer to mention the air flow with the deck lid closed when used in clamshell closed mode.
I really like this format. It seems more like a conversation with us, covering our issues. I would buy but there only seems to be one SKU in the UK. Though I recommended it to my friend in Canada who bought it last month.
im thankful for your useful reviews
So, I’m guessing the Omen control center has been updated with more performance modes. I bought the 2019 model, I’m still waiting for it to come in the mail, is the new update available for that model too?
@Adrien Rocchi I know, more reason to have more performance modes since the 2019 model just had a software toggle for turbo boost
we need more videos of this format pls
I was thinking about getting the 4800h version, but I found that the brightness can get stuck at max and that the vents could develop a constant high pitch noise, how common are those?
It's true, the fans are a high pitch noise with normally temperatures (40-45°C).
Just picked one up today for $1000 bucks! So excited
Thank you,
Maybe because of that lid felx, thats why the screen is AMOLED. Since its said that Amoled is a more flexible screen
I got the i7+RTX 2060.The battery drains even when plugged in when I play games(only when I play games). Is this a issue or is it normal.
Hi I want to see the gpu power limits
Got the AMD ryzen 7 1660ti. Love this laptop. Best out there for the price. Runs games like valorant like butter. COD runs smooth but not at highest settings. Overall great laptop, only complaint so far is I wish the brightness was a little bit brighter, but it’s still very good as it is
The always on fan setting can be toggled off in bios. So the fan will kick in when actually required.
This laptop jumped onto my radar just now and I’m really impressed by it. Do want to try it out in person because of the squishy screen though.
i have the i7 rtx 2060 300 hz version.
I got the 144 MHz display. Absolutely Gorgeous and bright.
I put a piece of the carboard box of the packaging between the screen and keyboard. It reduces screen flex by a whole bunch and I have much more confidence to put it in a bag. Ofcourse when I turn it on I put it away

Maybe it helps somebody
Been using my hp omen 15 for 2 years now, the only way to reduce the cpu temps is by undervolting. I used to get 97 degrees and after undervolting i get 89-91 degrees
hi matthew, great review, however i saw in the video the temperature pushes to 97 deg C which is damaging the internal parts of Laptop, but is that the HP has max temp limits above 100 deg c and so we can get best permonance out of it or its better to play at lower temp?
Truly a great review mate. Really loved this concept. To the point review without any nonsense.
Amazing review and video overall! Keep the coming.
this review format is crazy good.... love from India..
