- After Joan of Arc was shot in the chest with an arrow both the English and French assume the worst, that the grievous wound would be her end. After pulling out the arrow herself and passing out a long night of questions are answered when she wakes up at dawn and insights the army to attack using a siege tower. The only problem is she insists on pushing it to the walls.... backwards???? Directed by Luc Besson Staring Milla Jovovich, John Malkovich, Rab Affleck, Dustin Hoffman and Faye Dunaway.

There is not much history films about that era, if you could recommend me something

@@thatoneguy2132 They didn't sneak up because they're way outnumbered and they feel safe behind their walls, the French had nothing to siege the castle that was ready. They felt comfortable due to their superiority in number, to sleep in frot of the castle and you can't see it but I'm sure there is watch duty.
If we payed attention, we would have known that this fortress was thought to be impenetrable. By both sides obviously.
There would be no reason to waste arrows.
She was pushing the siege tower backwards they where probably too confused and shocked by the apparently stupid move until it was too late.
That commander saw what was coming at the 5:37 mark and he knew that while they could keep the French out they could hold but if the French with their numbers got in it would go very badly.

Yea it's a masterpiece IMO. I blame this film for not doing well enough as partly the reason Kingdom of Heaven was edited to the point it was a poor film when the Directors Cut is critically praised.
Medieval films don't sell, which is shame because there's so much rich history - GRR Martin said The Hundred Years and War of Roses were his inspiration.

Jehanne la Pucelle was never hit in the chest area!
She was wearing a steel chest plate like all of the aristocratic knights of the era ! She had the best armor of the time.
We all know that stupid story where a bolt pierced her armor and went in for a good 6 inches and to the lungs !
A Medieval arrow head going in for 6 inches,
you would died in a few minutes !
Joan of Arc received a flesh wound to the side of the neck by an English 1200 grains bodkin pin arrowhead .
She was standing, looking up behind a wooden fence at the bottom of a fortress wall.
A dressing of clay, honey and meat was applied to stop the blood flow and infection !
She then return to the battlefield.

A medieval ring said to have belonged to Joan of Arc, the French heroine who fought the English during the 15th Century, has returned to France after nearly 600 years in England.

Whatever naysayers say the faults of the film are, what is true is that any failings of this film still tower and outshine most others successes. That’s not nothing, not to say this film is bad, I loved it.
The fact they used so many extras and put such effort in that won’t be done much these days, makes this film long lasting.
5:36 Do you know what is up with this? Buck (English captain) is portrayed as having a massive herpes outbreak, but this isn't referenced at all before nor is he shown having it when Charles is informed Orleans is lost. Was this supposed to be meaningful to the plot, or the actor just had an outbreak and they couldn't cover it up or delay the shot?

It was a draw bridge so typically a battering ram wouldn't be able to to get to it so may not have needed or been able to be reinforced like a typical gate
I like this movie, but I come to hate Milla's Joan of Arc, she is so histeric and instead of inspiring she looks religious fanatic not a faithful servant of god.
Just by wearing trousers she made herself a radical. And the difference between a religious fanatic or a faithful servant of god is rather subjective.

Great movie and this scene in particular due to the tragic soundtrack going with it imo. This movie is meant for you to root for the French, so sadly you get all most despicable characters in this scene being English for instance. Yet you still feel for the poor lads crushed by the drawbridge here or begging for mercy there.
The monarchs and nobles in England at that time were also Norman French. French against French.

A hero was needed !
Then, in 1879, the Roman Catholic Church from Paris requested from the Vatican, the sainthood application of the now called ,
Maid of Orléans !
She became after numerous events, a saint only in 1920 !
France had now a hero and a saint !

Ok, it actually shows her punching out an armored English soldier with her bare hand (LOL) and then drawing her sword, although the historical Joan of Arc said she didn't fight at all: during the fourth session of her trial (27 February 1431) she said “during assaults I carried the banner, so as to stay out of any killing; and I have never killed anyone.” The rest of the scene often seems like something out of Monty Python (spiked armor?) and doesn't have much in common with the actual historical events.

Dude my own parents used to cut my hair like this when I was 2-3 years old. I've looked at my pictures made at that time. They used to call that "Prince Valiant haircut". It's hella easy, just put a food bowl of appropriate diameter on the head and cut all the hair bellow the bowl rim. Voila!

The French have historically had a great military with lots of fighting spirit. It was fear of French might that stopped the British from over extending themselves and completely crushing their rebelling colonies.

I did not like this version of Joan of Arc it made her look like a stupid little girl who didn’t understand that war would have atrocities. I find it extremely misogynistic and it doesn’t have the empowerment that a movie about my patron Saint should have! Also, the version with Leelee Sobieski that was made in the 1990s was much better… in that version Joan of Arc is smart and Saint like and always fights on the side of what is right and for her country… she also states she would prefer not to spill blood if it isn’t necessary but is wise enough to know that to free her country that might have to happen and she does lament when a battle is lost but it isn’t anything misogynistic like this where it looks like Joan of Arc was just a little girl playing soldier who didn’t understand that war would be brutal and bloody. Unfortunately, sometimes war has to happen… you think Hitler would have been stopped if it weren’t for the allied forces? I don’t and I don’t appreciate misogyny… especially when it occurs in military matters! Yes, once upon a time warfare required just brute strength which men are biologically blessed with more than most women (most men) but currently it requires more strategical thinking and knowledge of weapons that make women just as effective and capable in military endeavors.
