Great to see this all summarised - your before & after clips show it all so clearly. The other issue I'm worried about is that they will cut frequencies, which - with the network cuts - may make a lot of people use the buses less. Already they have said that they consider a bus every 12 minutes as 'frequent'. I know outside London, many people just dream of 5 buses an hour, but actually - for me - that goes outside the limit of what I'm happy to turn up and wait for: my idea for minimum service level would be 8 per hour (every 7/8 minutes). If these cuts mean you will have to change on to an 'every 12 minutes' bus, that may add quite a chunk of time to your journey. Whether or not these cuts take place, the bus (and tube) network could do with improvement to the interchange points: bigger and better - tube style - way-finding signs; more underpasses, where you have to cross a main road to change bus (e.g. Notting Hill Gate; bigger, better information displays at stops (larger font sizes); maybe bigger flags or other signs to see where a bus stop is from a distance away. @@jmyoucrazy No. That's a bad idea. I live in Lewisham so I need the route between Lewisham and New Cross. We need it because it's very important for our travel. We don't want other routes to be packed. Please don't cut it.
A point I've noticed in the West is just how many routes they're cutting or diverting which replicate tube lines....for example, under these proposals, Hammersmith would no longer have any routes that serve Westminster, Victoria, Paddington, or Baker Street thanks to changes to the 211 and 27, meaning TFL are in for a right nightmare each and every time there is a signal failure, tube strike or the like, and all because of their own ridiculous lack of foresight!
The hillarious thing is that the routes being cut ar restructured are very well used, good luck trying to get on the 16,12,11 during rush hour and funny enough those are the ones to be cut

If savings should be made it should be done at a fair comprise such as route shorts like with the 38 where not all buses reach Clapton pond, this could work really well for under used routes in the Ciry of London during the daytime where frequent routes such as the 35 could see some services end at Monument as opposed to going all the way to shore-ditch, with this less mileage occurs and the passengers on the rest of the route(south of the river) are unaffected.

Great explanation, thanks. 45 years ago when I started working for LT the highest number red standard (non Red Arrow) bus route was 299. Now there’s all sorts of weird and wonderful numbers while some of the truly oldest routes from LGOC days, like the 3, 11, 12 and 24 are either gone or totally misshapen. Can’t be easy for tourists to understand.
Welcome to what the rest of the country has endured for decades. Outside of London there is no integrated transport system / fare structure. Transport is run pretty well on commercial grounds with routes having to make a profit. Many urban areas have bus routes that run hourly or half hourly with nothing in the evening. Bus travel is slow, expensive and unattractive with none of the convenience of regular buses running into the late evening. Sunday travel can be worse with many routes not starting until 9 or 10am with many routes running on a reduced frequency despite the changes in shopping and leisure habits. Some areas have no Sunday buses at all.
@@JayJay-nc7pr As someone who lives in South East London and spent my life in the Elephant/camberwell/Peckham area you're completely right still, I wouldnt be surprised if the 12 is one of the busiest route in London
I think the reason most people are up in arms especially with the 11,12, & 24 is that you're losing the numbers rather than the route. And years ago the 12 and 148 we're essentially the same as 12 ran to Notting Hill Gate. Maybe TFL should keep the numbers and that will make people a bit more happy.
Yup. My dad was a 31 bus driver and he had just switched to a smaller bus now for the sake of his keeping his job (and maybe contract). He was definitely not happy now that he's had to leave his colleagues of many years and to switch to a smaller, older bus.
I think the best thing the public can do right now is fill in proposals as you rightly said, the decline in bus services is definitely not the way forward, really and truly TFL is not wholly at fault, the government need to step in
This will impact the bus route changes be achieved far more annoying TFL to retract 16 in Central London. The number should be lower like 4,11,12,14,16,31,45,72,74,78 or others.
I think we're all glad that most of these cuts are not going ahead, some of these are actually insane! 113 to White City, 388 to Peckham, 135 to Homerton, 214 to Pimlico! And the ones that are happening do kinda make sense. (For the most part...) Alse, you can just tell that TFL were trying to get people salty by deliberately knocking out lower numbers, even when it didn't make sense. (507 instead of 11, 414 instead of 14, 332 instead of 16, 283 instead of 72.) Not to mention considering withdrawal of stalwart Route 24.
Why should the entire country subsidise the London transport network through their taxes? Londoners have no idea the true cost of running trains and buses.
Just to be controversial (and as a non-Londoner at that), I do feel that Oxford Street and Regent Street should be radically pedestrianised (neither buses nor taxis, deliveries between 06.00 and 08.00).
I’d like to see there be a City-Oxford Circus link again. Perhaps they could reroute the 23 via Oxford Street again and send it to Liverpool Street instead of Aldwych. Or they could extend the 8 or 25 back to Oxford Circus. The 53 should also go back to Whitehall. Plumstead to Elephant and Castle is an absolute joke.
The 12 is often busier than the 148 yet they’re axing the 12 and keeping the 148 it’s utterly ridiculous, TfL are out of touch, recently the 180 was changed from Lewisham-Belvedere and now runs North Greenwich-Erith which is a pointless change as it cut people off from Abbey Wood and Thamesmead from Lewisham, and there is already a bus from Thamesmead to North Greenwich that’s the 472, and Erith doesn’t need a link to North Greenwich now that the Liz line is down the road. The 12 should be kept and the 148 should be axed, the 11 should be merged with the 507 and 521, the 24 should be saved as well.
But 159 was cut due to TFL cutting down on the routes that go on Oxford Street. Hence the reason for withdrawals like 10 and cuts. 45 back to KC would be better after all 23 is going back to Aldwych
Such a shame about what has happened. I’ve been many bus routes in and around London and I have no idea why it’s been axed. I know your video isn’t inherently political, but can I just say that this is what “levelling up” will look like under the Tories. There is a lot of envy of London’s infrastructure in other parts of the country, very much understandably so, but instead of a government committed to lifting the rest of the nation up to London’s high level and beyond, we have a PM and cabinet gleeful at every opportunity they have of punishing London, primarily by slowly dragging it down to the level of every other area in England. This way, the conservatives are able to kill two birds with one stone, they can pander to Northern constituencies and rural voters who don’t like the “london elite” and they can also claim that they’re closing the gap between London’s relatively high service levels and the rest of the nation’s pisspoor public transport provision, without actually having to provide any extra funding whatsoever. How convenient… Seriously, we need a change of government asap, these clowns have long outstayed their welcome in my view.
Ridiculous that TfL is short of money. Land values in London are sky high. There would be bags of cash to pay for London's transport if there was a land value tax. London land values are largely sustained by the tubes and buses. Land values shot up in places like Brockley when London Overground opened.
You can have consultations all you like but Kahn doesn’t listen. The ULEZ extension consultation proves that. Great video by the way. Just found your channel. 👍👍
The 12!! The 12!! ...what the hell..they will need to extend some of the existing routes though, I guess if the 148 is extended, then it makes it one of the longest routes I've ever seen. So i guess it would be convenient for me to get to west from Dulwich and that's exciting , However, the 12!!!!! The bloody 12..that's my childhood route..but again its just a number lol , the route master bus will remain the same. So I guess its not that deep, but not seeing "12 " anymore will throw me through a loop for a while lol.
The 148 is getting cut back to Notting Hill Station. Funnily enough the 12 used to run that route before about 2004/05 when the bendy buses came in which cut the route from Notting hill to Oxford circus we used to have a 12A and 12B back then with one going Oxford circus and the other Notting Hill
@@bb-3653 they do and they don't so like certain routes are like a by product of previous routes. For example The 36b basically got turned into the modern day 136. That's why sometimes you would see routes that have the same last 2 digits and follow a similar path. In South London the 53 and 453 (they share the same route from Elephant and castle to Deptford bridge) comes to mind also the 36 and 136 and 436 as well (36 and 436 share the same route from New Cross gate to Vauxhall, used to be Paddington until the 436 got rerouted at Vauxhall, the 36/436/136 share the same route from Peckham to New Cross Gate, the 436/136 then share the same route from New Cross Gate to Lewisham) the old 36 route used to be from Queens Park to Grove Park but over time it got cut back to New Ceoss Gate with the 136 and 436 taking over various parts
@@RANDOMZBOSSMAN1 that makes sense then, perhaps more areas should have that.
This time they did listen because these proposals were cancelled
The 12!! The 12!! ...what the hell..they will need to extend some of the existing routes though, I guess if the 148 is extended, then it makes it one of the longest routes I've ever seen.
@@RANDOMZBOSSMAN1oh wow!! I used to imagine a A and ; bus system. Tfl should likely still employ that method tbf.
The p13 kinda needs more than one bus operating on its similar back routes...or more frequent services for example. 12 or the 148 may need that, as busses like the 176 ,40, and 185 don't go to similar destinations at all. But I had no idea that busses did thar, very interesting.
same lol, the 12 was one of my childhood buses and if the changes go ahead, I will rlly miss the 12
And this is the reason why i dont like change 9 times out of 10…
And this is why people just drive their own cars.
In what way is the London bus network unique?
the wide range of different fleet, love me some variety :--)
@@networknathan Do you have a video covering this variety? Casual searching doesn't bring up anything.
Great video!
they axing 24??? londons oldest unchanged bus route like wtf?
It’s not don’t worry
@@EL11-m2q YAY
I don't like the 205 change. The only bus in Bow/East London to get to Angel, Kings Cross, Euston, Baker Street. If trains are not working then what. Use 2 more buses. No sir.
@zf_shots why? I’m local to the 205 and is well used on this section despite not being the busiest. I’ve seen them literally packed during strike days on the Bow Church to Mile End section. Fear for the worst for 25 otherwise
Don’t want the 12 to go man
I'm very sad to see route C3 axed 😞
Won't happen
271 is getting withdrawn next month
❤♥
Whats also hurting me as we speak and as i work lol is losing the hybrids (B5LHs to be precise - ie the the 52, 6, 98, 135 etc) and everything going electric 😔
None of my routes are effected, odd🤔...
I use the 277 nd d6 to crosshabour no this will be harder
I would personally want the 1 to go to hampstead heath and honour oak and make the 63 removed 2 should go norwood junction 196 should be removed 3 no problems at all 4 just be withdrawn and replace 236 19 263 and 56 and the 5 should be extend to upton park and chase cross 6 should be cut from victoria to edgware road its more better that way 7 no problems at all 8 no problems at all i think the 9 should be withdrawn 23 will cover green park and 52 will go to hammermsith and kensal rise 11 should go to battersea power and hammermith idk why 12 should be withdrawn and 148 should take its place to dulwich libray and shepherds bush 279 should be withdrawn and 259 should go finsbury park and waltham cross 253 will take its place to go to euston but follow 259s path going through caledonian road 254 should be extended to archway and ash grove 349 withdrawn 149 will take its place extending it from dalston junction to ponders end 243 should be extended to oxford circus and 55 should go aldywch 91 should be extended to waterloo since any other buses from aldwych already gi trafalger square 73 should go victoria and 390 will be withdrawn and 214 will go archway and take the byitself 390s place 14 should be withdrawn and 19 should take its place to putney heath and 68 will follow to british musuem parliament square trafalger square victoria and follows the 185 path to camberwell green comment yes if u agree with everythung on this topic of disscution
👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
In total this will be 10 withdrawals
You have no idea how dumb these sound
148 going be Chaos west London into Deep South London.
It's such a shame all of these bus routes are getting axed because 12,78,242 and all of those buses are very busy when I see it so all of the people who takes the bus are going to be upset and when I go on a routemaster I see people coming from the 3rd door and not paying so there are going to regret not paying TFL so they should asked the driver and when they get the money they pay extra money but not for the young people who doesn't have a oyster card or Zip Card even TFL have to raise to fee to get on train and bus!!
Buses:£2.00
Trains:£2.50-£4.30
😢😢
They aren’t getting axed. They were cancelled in November
Nooo not the 113. 😣
Edgware to White City is going to be an insanely long route

@@LX58CAA it’s not useless, you’re only saying that because other people say it’s pointless
They should of reroute the 75 to Victoria to replace the 185 instead of 12,168,271 getting withdrawn, they should withdrawn pointless route like 185, I'm ok with 185 getting withdrawn
How on earth is the 185 pointless? Also, the 75 to Victoria would be ludicrously long by modern traffic standards.
@@LondonTransport466 ignore him, he’s just hating on the route without a valid reason 😂😂
@zf_shots he hates it because it’s GAL. You’ll find a lot of them
If the 259 is being extended why dont the goverment make a bus from manor house to chelsea worlds end via manor house finisbury park holloway caledonian road caledonian road and barnsbury kings cross euston euston square raphael park trafalger square piccadilly circus green park hyde park corner sloane square battersea and chelsea worlds end
And wait it can be routemaster bus srm
Just like the 259😅
Then it can be on the 279
And the bus can be called 82 or 310 or 311 or 342 or 239 but nostly 82 since 82 is basically 13 but 82 is no longer bus route 13 is HOW DARE U 13 bus route 😡😡😡
Basically 279 then 82
our inept mayor ran TFL into the red pre-covid🤦🏾♂️
Not axed just yet
Is this how we fight climate change in the UK then? Make people even more dependent on cars- good idea!
This is not about fighting climate change, the reason the changes are planning to happen is that tfl don't have enough money to run certain routes.
If TfL want more funding, Londoners should pay for it! The rest of the country have a much worse service than this already.
388 to Peckham 💀
elephant and castle was good, Peckham is just nah
@zf_shots 388 is still kinda long in terms of time, their drivers are so slow
2 things: 1: I live in North London so I’m offended that it’s your least favourite area 2: Thankfully I don’t think any of my local bus routes will be affected
they should axe B12 because its pointless
Had the Mayor not held down the tickets prices, TfL may not have been on this position.
Ticket prices were equally an issue though....transport is not attractive if it is expensive, no matter how great it appears to be, but you also can't attract people with cheap prices if your transport is irregular, dilapidated, or unfit for purpose, so it really is about striking a difficult balance between reasonable prices and a productive service
This is all Morgan fault.........!
Huh?
