    You just saved my live stream. My setup was often dropping frames with video overlays and I was sure it had something to do with the GPU (GTX 1660) not rendering fast enough till I realized it was the CPU (Rysen 5 2600) going up to 100% on Win 10 performance stats (OBS only shows the CPU stats regarding the software only) with X264 encoding for streaming and NVENC for recording. The tip about going all NVENC (streaming and recording) even with my budget PC put the CPU between 10% to 50%, when pushing animated lower thirds, and my GPU encoder was only at 30% using Max Quality encoding for both streaming and recording. The dropped frames went down to almost 0 (it looses one or two frames when the overlays are applied which is totally fine). I know it has been almost a year already but I have just found your amazing channel a few days ago. Thanks again and keep it up helping with these awesome recommendations. Blessings...

    Things I learned. and thanks
    1. For Streaming using Single PC set ups keep it at Quality
    2. Instead of VBR use QCP with a range of 14(close to lossless) 18-22(save on storage) 60(really bad)
    3. Keep Audio track 1 @160(this is for streaming) , max the rest
    *> I'm still looking for away to Auto Remux .mkv files to mp4 in SLOBS*

    When recording on a laptop without an NVIDIA GPU but a fast CPU (MacBook Pro with i9) what settings are best? If I can record at 50 Mbits with "veryfast" preset, is this better than choosing "faster" CPU preset and a lower bitrate like 10 Mbits? I've watched all your videos on the topic of bitrate and didn't find an answer what to do with x264 CPU preset for recording specifically and what to prefer higher bitrate or CPU preset.

      Mihai Dragomirescu using two PCs, one for gaming and the other for streaming. That way you don’t have bottlenecks and slowdown on your gaming PC.

    • @Ohem1
      @Ohem1 5 лет назад

      @@bluesmachine1006 That's true but adds a bit more cumbersome setups, separate audio tracks with either hardware or software mixers, either separate keyboards and mice (that takes up further space) to control both PCs or make use of an expensive KVM. There's also remote control software as well (Teamviewer ,VNC, Windows RDP) but if you have sensitive information you don't want to display on stream you can't "unshow" an HDMI Display capture without consciously obscure (yeah yeah scene switch is a thing).
      My point is, for one setup you have to account for other aspects that neither makes a fully streamlined solution. A decent KVM is easiest but costly, especially so with HDMI.

    I swapped to YT for streaming as I haven't started properly, cause I can stream at 1440p 30 and 60 FPS, depending on game, so I use 20 and 30 Mbit for those frame rates, and YT handles it well, and since it's such a high bitrate, it looks good. (and everyone gets quality options)

    • @KesGaming
      @KesGaming 5 лет назад +1

      @Jack Kyle Perhaps I should have clarified. I meant it is a lot easier to grow an initial following, because you can have your live stream promoted to others based on search and recommendations, instead of hoping that someone picks the game you are playing, scrolls all the way down the list, and clicks on your stream.
      In that respect, it is a lot easier.

    I think this video needs to be updated due to the recent changes to AVC. Also I have not seen a CPU bottleneck episode for older rigs. I’m concerned people owning older equipment might take the recommendation of using NVENC and purchase 2060 Super cards just to find that due to CPU bottleneck the super card performs worse than a dual pc configuration. I will have to slap my HD60 Pro into a i5-2400 rig and see if there is a difference between x264 fast and the 1050ti using NVENC. I don’t have a 2060 Super to test from my primary rig that has a i5-7500.

    Apparently I pushed 10,000 KBPS on twitch and didn't lose transcoding. Probably technical glitch or a fluke. I've been on the edge of sacrificing transcoding (as an affiliate) for less pixel boxes on my streams and I simply have a really bad beef with it. If I see those boxes, my streams feel like they're bad to view. And I hold it to a higher standard because I play older games rather the new trend games that come out. Quake and Doom specifically at 900p60 @ 10,000 KBPS. Just can't help it.
    EDIT: However, for some reason when the stream is going, I have only seen 720p60 and lower in the quality options when I did had transcoding in this situation. There was no 900p60 during the stream at all, however, it did show 900p60 in the playback when the stream was over. That was a lot crispy in terms of quality, so I think Twitch is cutting down my quality to something appropriate deliberately. Not sure that's what is really going, but that's what feels like what's going on.

      In your situation, x264 cpu encoding is probably the better idea in a 2 pc setup. If you decide to upgrade the gtx 670 to one of the newer gpus either the gtx 1060 or any of the rtx gpus then use nvenc.

    • @TehBrownie

      Best thing you can do is upgrade your gpu to a 1160 ti and encode on the gpu on the stream pc. If you can not get to x264 med with the cpu. Ya need to look at an upgrade. Cheapest upgrade would be the gpu. Changing a cpu means new ram and motherboard.

    Hey, I love your tutorials and have learned everything I need to know to put together a really slick on line presentation. BUT, I have a problem which you don't seem to address, or at least I can find a reference to it. AUDIO LATENCY. I am a singer song writer and am using Sound Flower with a Multi Output Device to collect all of my media sources. When I use an instrumental playback or well, even when I just talk, there is a latency issue that I cannot resolve which makes live performane of music next to impossible. I have gone into the Advanced Audio setting for the microphone and tried to enter a "Sync off set" of anywhere from 10 ms to 750 ms. I have used an video to try and get a more exact timecode on the latency. I have looked at every other tutorial on line, in addtion to your, that tries to address the issue but can get no functioning solutions. I have not yet streamed live because I can not sing and play to playback.
    Do you have any work arounds for this?
    I use a MacBook Pro running Sierra
    I use iRig HD2 for my instrument and mic input inputs

    I have OBS taking Media Source, Window Capture and all else.

    I would like to use the Nvidia encoder but my poor 960 just isn't strong enough to record with while playing games like Monster Hunter World at Medium-High settings, since it's often at 80-100% usage to begin with. I've been looking up lots of info recently, but I've determined that I just have to use x264 Very Fast for 1080p 60fps recording until I get a better GPU.

    Just my 2 cents from my own experience - never downmix your mic source as mono in OBS... You can't not when your recording and streaming at the same time. You can setup new profiles for recording and streaming and uncheck channel 1. Best thing to do is just delete channel 1 with your editing software. Should not be hard to remove.

Is the 160 the stream audio but when streaming & recording the 320 and 160 blend together improving the recordings audio. And if so does this require all 6 tracks selected or just 1 track selected? • @EposVox
      @EposVox  4 года назад

      160 is the max for Twitch and most streaming sites, and the first track is the only one going to your stream. The multitrack tracks are for your recording, which you want to be a higher quality whenever possible, thus a higher bitrate. Just ditch the stream track and use the higher quality tracks when editing

      It depends. If you want to do console streaming/recording yes. it will allow you to split the video to whatever streaming software you use. In this case OBS. But if you want to strictly do PC streaming/recording, theres no need. Keep in mind though that you can already natively stream to twitch and youtube on ps4. xbox one is only able to stream to mixer. To stream on twitch or youtube on xbox one, you will need a capture card. eposvox has other tutorials with more information should you need help.

    Question. Do you know if the new 1160 ti has the same encoder chip as the 2080 ti? I would like to update to the new encoder just not sure is an 1160 ti will work or if i have to look at a rtx 2060

    • @TehBrownie
      @TehBrownie 5 лет назад

      @Jack Kyle it is did some looking around the rtx and gtx series cars use the same encoder called Turing so an 2080 ti to an 1160 ti will encode the same. It will look like x264 at med. This is huge for streamer looking for mid line gear. Ya can fit in a good priced cpu and drop in a 1160 ti and get easy 100 fps in most games at 1080p. Now if you are pushing 1440p then the gpu will be your bottleneck. But you can not stream over 1080p 60fps at 6000 kbps. So best bang for the buck would be the new ryzen 3600 series card with 16 gb of 3200 mhz ram with a 1160 ti.

    • @TehBrownie
      @TehBrownie 5 лет назад

      @Jack Kyle as a ryzen user if 2600x do not go ryzen and look to stream and game. Ex single pc. It does not work well. Ryzens are best for dual pc setup or if your looking to do rendering or encoding like making youtubr vidoes. Muti tasking like gaming and encoding. They do not handle it well. Best to just jump intp the new 1160 ti and stream over the new gpu encoder.

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  5 лет назад +1

      Just to clarify: yes. I cover this in my NVenc video. 1660/1660ti have the same encoder as 2080/etc. 1650 does not.
