This is my “Master Class” for OBS Studio. I’ve spent basically all of 2017 researching, scripting, revising, shooting, and producing this course, and I’m quite proud of what it’s become. This should be a fantastic all-in-one reference guide with the software, with just minimal updates required for new features.
This course will primarily focus on the Windows version of OBS Studio. I have some minor points that reference differences with macOS and Linux setup, but I cannot currently go in-depth with those versions at this time.
Also, this video is available in a full 4K UHD 60 frames per second format. This will give you not only the best visual quality, but the best clarity for viewing text and settings menus.

Recording bit rate 5:09
thanks
yo thax
these people make our life easier. THX
Thanks dood
thanks A LOT!
Appreciate you dedicating an entire video for this topic that has many misconceptions surrounding it :)
Oh my! This helped so much. It lagged so much and now I'm running a smooth 50 - 60+ FPS! Thanks!
Thanks so much for this video. I had been struggling on laggy performance in OBS. Figured out my recording bitrate was too high thanks to your video.
Everything about is channel is amazing! I like it all. His face, his voice, the knowledge and info he shares, the interior designof the room. EVERYTHING is top notch. Keep doing this dude. You are a legend. Didn't really need the info cause I tested it all myself but wanted to see what is your advice ;)
Haha thanks :)
Found your tuturial right now. Masterfully done, well explained and very useful! Thanks for you job and keep up the good work! ;)
Amazing ! Cleared lots of doubts! Thanks for so many suggestions 🤘🏻
This video is 2 years old and this STILL helps. Thank You soooo much 😁👍🏼
Thanks for the video series, very helpful!
So should I have installed OBS on my basic HD and "recording path" should be my Solid state?
Best explanation ever. And I've watched a number already.
Great breakdown! I've been having trouble with this, testing on various networks and had no idea what I should be doing with the settings, this should help a lot and I'm going to go test it now. Do you have any videos or links to helping with computer CPU lag? I looked and couldn't find anything on it here.
When I run OBS my computer drags like crazy, even though OBS says it's only using 15-18% of the CPU. This is becoming a problem as I'm trying to set up streams via youtube -> patreon, and even trying to copy the video link and set up the post takes 5+ minutes waiting for the pages to load. I'm on a fairly new macbook pro, so I don't think it should be this slow. Any advice is appreciated, I'm getting a lot of good info out of these vids already
I keep hearing your advice to run multiple test sessions and I am hoping this will come in a later video, but, how do we run test streaming sessions without going live to make sure the steam is okay?
Hello thanks for this video so I got my stream to where I’m finally not dropping any frames on OBS and now I’m having a situation where the audio is literally like one second off lag wise what setting do I have to change to fix this issue thanks in advance
I do my videos in 720p because its really the best my computer can handle without skipping i feel like at 30mbs looks alot better than 10 do you think thats overkill should i stick too 10 or somewhere in between? Thanks in advance love the channel
So is each number in the bitrate folder a bit per second, or a kilobit per second?
Like ... my default bitrate was 30,000. Does that mean 30kb/s, or 30,000kb/s?
Thanks for this, just updated to streamlined OBS and this was exactly what I was looking for!
Nice! Wdym "Streamlined OBS"?
Hey man- I love your videos! I'm new to OBS but love it. My issue is something I can't find on your classes. When I am showing a PPT on one of my scenes, with a small image of me in the corner, the PPT flickers at the beginning of the recording. I'm not sure what to do to make this stop. Any help? Thanks!
This is what I was looking for! THNAKS ALOT!
What if when all my audio is set to 320kbps (even though I only really use Desktop audio), it ends up sounding low quality? After I finish recording, I see the raw footage and it sounds a little low quality. This happened out of nowhere, back then my audio was 160kbps and it sounded fine.
Have you ever used a network drive to record to directly? Using a NAS over a gigabit network?
In the Recommended upload encoding settings there are different bit rate values for HDR and SDR, what is the difference between them? How should i know which ones to use?
OHH MODEM Sound! I Love it!!
Hey there! I was just wondering if investing in external hard drives will pay off for me - I'm just making YT videos as a hobby and don't have a huge following.
So, how long will an external drive last me if I plan or recording 1080p videos (at like 30 Mbps) onto it and rendering a whole bunch of stuff?
Also, my laptop does have an SSD. Would it be okay if I recorded videos directly to the internal SSD and then moved it over onto the HDD for storage?
ShadowPlay records at a constant bitrate here at Windows 10 x64, driver version 430.39.
Did Nvidia fixed the vbr issue maybe?
I went to the place where I added the scenes and the other thing and the sound and I mistakenly erased them. How do I add them back?
I'm trying to make sense of the audio part of your instructions, how did you calculate the amount necessary from that of the video quality?
I have 8mbps as my upload speed and I have a wired Ethernet connection, any stream setting recommendations?
I neeeeeed some help im having trouble figuring out why my mic is not loud and enough and not picking up background sound its then too low even with following what you said i may need a plugin for my blue snowball mic maybe im doing somthing wrong
sorry for asking u so late, but what recording bitrate do u suggest for a 2017 windows 10 laptop, 1080p
Thank you again! your videos ALWAYS help!!
:)) Thanks for watching!
so for streaming, if 75% of my upload speed is around 80, do you think 10000 bitrate would be ok
Thank you so much, this was super helpful
this helped me so much i luv u
Nice Vídeo. Very enlightening. I have a question. Recording CBR or VBR? Which one?
I'm getting 30 Mbps upload, 330 download mbps. What should my bitrate be when I stream? I have ryzen 7 2700x GTX 1060 6GB? Getting 10,000 kbps in my area
I have a question, I use 3000bitrate since it is recommended for me but when I look back into the stream it looks pixelated. also I’m streaming with 1920x1080
hey bro can i ask ? if i choose incorrect Bitrate for my 1080p 60 fps, so my video won't smooth ?
i got a question im gonna record at 720p60 so how many kbps do i need thx
The recommended bitrate for youtube 1080p 60fps is maximun 9000. But sometimes my bitrate goes to 12000...10000 even putting 9000 (for my internet is ok because I have 50mb of upload) but I keep receiving youtube's suggestion for me to go down to 4500. My question is, a higher bitrate than the recommendation makes your stream worse? Because I can limit my bitrate in 9000 on the configuration. I haven't seen anyone using this config yet. But thats my doubt because I have internet to set it to 25000 if I want. My intention is live stream bands playing, not for gaming. Thanks a lot and your channel saved my life many times!
If I am recording only Powerpoint presentations, would it matter if I have high bitrate? They are only slides. Will the bitrate affect audio quality?
Nice video I got my answer and some more useful information. Thumbs up
Thanks for watching!
Im using stream labs obs and when i record my game its so blurry other youtuber said you are probably recording in to high bit rate so someone please tell me what bit rate do you reccomend for my pc specs
Amd ryzen 5 36000 gtx 1660 16 gb ram
On stream labs you dont have like 5-50 mbs but its like 5000 6000 2000
Hopefully my comment maked sense
Hey! My Internet speed is pretty good but obs keeps disconnecting and reconnecting.. I stream on youtube! !Can Anyone Help Me
thanks why only show changing the audio and not show what you change in streaming settings?
Hey, Great tutos! your awsome thank you ! I'm having 3-4 seconds delay when streaming to youtube I chose the "ultra low-latency" option, and try lots of different settings - fps, degrading res, x264 and nvidia, bitrates. -
1) How can I get low to 0-1 seconds ?
2) Also what the Max Bitrate that make a difference, what you recommend? and does it influence on the watchers?
thanks!
3 - 4 seconds is nothing and you can't get it lower. if i were you i'd not go over 4000 bitrate as it just doesnt affect much
can u make a good settings for amd users pls i am struggling amd has target bitrate and peak bitrate
Should i lower my Bitrate, cause i have a crappy laptop from 2009? (I mean, from your recommended 8mbps, to about 6 mbps,)
And here I sit with 3 mbps download and 1 mbps upload speeds... :'( Your rates look so good to me right now
Ih ave 93 download and 93upload both Mbps
Same WiFi specs
@@flixzxp7455 how
Damn that must suck i got 450 mbps download
970 Mb/s Downloads and 1015 Mb/s Upload. LS network does a solid job as an upstream provider.
very usefull thanks adam =D
So I have 1000 down and 250 up so I should be able to handle 6000bitrate? my pc is pretty top end too. but on a single pc gaming and streaming set up
Great explanation. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
downloaded obs & it defaulted to 2500 @ 160. while streaming to utube, message came up that my audio stream current bitrate (0) is lower than the recommended bitrate, we recommend... but while streaming, it wouldn't let me open the widget. suggestions please. i saw this message on the utube streaming. my internet speed test shows 16.4 for mbps download & 19.8 for mbps upload. do i need to change 2500 & 160 to something higher?
so if i absolutely cannot get a wired connection should i just not attempt streaming at all?
Hey, question. If my upload is speed Is only 9 and I want to stream fortmite on twitch, I assume I should stream 720p @ 60 fps? But how much bitrate would you recommend?
cool thx
Thanks for watching!
how youadjust this specifically? i have 2500 kbps for streaming and i cannot adjust thge resolution in the gear :c
thank you. it really helped me
AWSOME - Thanks!
bro if we record online class video is there any way to find out by server (owner)that we recorded their video illegaly
i get 4 ping 483.42 download speed 733.68 upload speed but what bitrates should i try if i have that
OMG SUGOIIIII THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH THAT HELPED A ALOT!!!!!!
i record 1080p60 fps and use an 80000 bitrate it looks fine but then when i upload it to youtube it looks so distorted
Question do you mean by mbps like 8 or 8k(like if ur saying 8mbps)
my download mbps is 45,73 and upload is 13,66 what bitrate i use then ?
i use now 3000
big thx or how you calculate it ?
you explained it very nicely!
Thanks for watching!
I've got a whole lot of old home videos from the 80's and 90's to transfer into MP4. You say 8-10 Mbps for 720 and below. Is it worth going anything above 8? They're all in PAL format and most in SP. A few in LP too.
@MyOwnInferno Will the video editor have a default bitrate? They're not in video files. They're still on tape. They're not converted yet.
Hey EposVox Do you live in Louisville? if so I was wondering if it were possible if I could hire you for a set up. if not thanks for taking the time to read my message.
i have 100mbps download and 100mbps upload speed what should i use??
I don't understand your talking about mbps but you need and I have 20 mbps upload speed and put 13k bitrate but its buffering. when i put it lower its smooth but the quality is really bad while youtube says that its hd??
20 mbps = 2.4 MBps = 2400bits So you should keep around 2000bits settings not 13000.
so I have an upload speed of 11.86 what would be a good bitrate for streaming on RUclips?
You find a reasonable bitrate? i have 11.80 and curious
My upload speed on speedtest.net is 14mbps. I have my bitrate at 10000 and I am streaming 720p 30fps, but after 30seconds of streaming my bitrate drops to about 1000?
what audio bitrate should i use?
How could you dislike this video?!
do I use cqp vbr ? or what ?
7:57 Why did you maintain the track 1 @ 160bps? Is this because you use track 1 exclusively for Live Streaming?
Yes. Twitch, at least, has a max audio bitrate of 160.
94.72 Mbps for download and 94.55 for upload and 5 ping. How many bitrate should I use?
I hope that loading screen edit didnt make anyone leave XD
Thank you!
Still can’t fix my stream, pixelation/blocky I’m tryna stream 720p 60fps on Facebook have upload speed of 10mbps I’ve tryed bitrate from 2k to 6k (6k Facebook max) and it doesn’t change. Anyone help?

EposVox No problem, you helped me back when I first started my channel and streaming. Helped me make sense of a lot I had forgotten, and now over a year later I had to redo my whole setup. Once again your videos got me where I needed to be. You do it better than ANY of these other guys do. Not to knock anyones work but the way you break it down is where the difference is. I know you put a lot of work into these videos and I speak on behalf of a lot of folk when I say THANK YOU. ⚡👌👌👌⚡

Wait i did the test and i have 807 mbps download and 397 mbps upload , so that means that i could use around 300 mbps for streaming/recording?
3500 is I believe the max bitrate for non affliates on twitch.

If youtube has no limitations, why do super high rates that produce 1080p on twitch look like 480p25 on youtube life? Ilegit want and need to know

how to set the recording bitrate to say 100mbps ?
So I'm already recording in recommended settings 1080p 40 mbps 60 fps (but I think yt downgrades my fps
If I use my graphics card the frame rate is terrible and if I use x254 its still blurry.
I've got a rx 5700xt and and i7 10k
Any help is appreciated
Change the x264 preset to medium or slow, don't use slowest if your CPU can't handle it.
Fast means crappy quality and slow means better quality.
Personal tip from me: Always record to your SSD, then after the recording is finished you can move it to you HDD.
i have 2 mouses plugged in at once does that make a difference bc of the polling rate for gaming?
No
