As someone who played the Vanilla SMTV and loved it, the Vengeance route is essentially a whole new game. This is not even in the same ballpark as Persona 5 Royal changes. Basically a remake
this maniac versions offer alot more than their base counter parts, just look at smt 3 with dante as guest, or smt 4 with nanashi and dagda. cant wait to recruit my old buddy the demifiend
A remake is a rebuild based on a new engine which is truthful to the original without alternating gameplay or narrative. Example shadow of the colossus on PS4 oder super Mario allstars or crash insane trilogy. This is an enhanced port. Even though the enhancement are severe. It has nothing in common with a remake per definition.
@FelixS. A remake can technically reuse the same engine but no this wouldn't technically count as a remake. Well half of it would but only half, so not really a remake.
@FelixS. Companies are going to reuse Unreal and Unity for years to come so yes, they will start reusing engines. The only acceptions would be if a new version released but all Unreal 6 would be is 5 with more stuff.

The press turn system and filling up the compendium is so addictive, can’t wait to see the new demons in vengeance 🔥
There were mods for SMT V before, that means the modding community will be larger, since its coming to pc now. SMT and persona have always had some mods. Cheats can act like mods as well, just depends how you use them.
I have at least 3 different save files on my switch copy I never finished because hard mode is extremely unbalanced during boss fights, but fun during regular gameplay. Didn’t wanna lower the difficulty because it’s irreversible and too easy on normal. Praying somehow I have a different experience with vengeance Edit: lol can’t believe I’m even editing this, but I’ll never forget how disgustingly punishing this game was when I went against the story boss Shohei and had Alice with a bunch of broken skills + stats, yet ended up doing barely any damage and got wiped down like his dark weakness didn’t matter on hard mode. Had to put the game down immediately after that smfh
SMT V vanilla was my first Megaten game. Played till the end and really like some aspects but the lack of story content, that overall felt emptyness and other flaws didnt motivated me to pay it again. I was done with it and sold it. But with this new enhanced release I'm so hyped and preordered it. Already have the preinstallation on my Switch and excited to play it on friday😁 Have fun🤗
Damn I really want the steelbook but this is going to be amazing on my Portal. Really looking forward to replaying on better hardware. Replayed DQ11S on PS5 after playing the original on switch. It’s like night and day.

Guys, I've never played any shin megami tensei, can I start with this one? Is there any direct game before this one that I should play to understand anything or characters or this is like a whole new story
It has a ton of references but they are mostly just Easter eggs. Both routes are stand alone. SMT is a big multiverse clusterfuck that's more confusing than Kingdom Hearts but unlike Kingdom Hearts you can jump in with any game. The old ones will fuck you up though. If you do play the old games though: MT1: Spam Elemental Stones MT2: Spam Elemental Stones SMT1: Spam Zio and Charm Bullets SMT 2: Spam Bufu and Charm Bullets SMT if...: Spam Charm Bullets (The old ones aren't overly hard or anything but they do not tell you what to do most of the time.)

@@arireview4510 Demi-Fiend is the Protagonist of Nocturne and canonizes one of the endings but only for SMT5's universe. All endings are canon because there's a large focus on the multiverse throughout the series. Nocturne is 3 (technically if... is 3 but If... isn't Numbered)
@arireview4510 also if you've played Persona. Persona is the Same timeline as if... all the games take place after if..., Persona 1 and both versions of 2 even have the female protagonist of If... (male protagonist is the protagonist in all the novel and manga versions of the if... storyline)

You only choose to bring 1 of your compendium demons so basically it all boils down to whether to make a weak, cheap monster with lots of broken skills so you can fuse and be ahead of the curve in vengeance or spend time making 1 demon the strongest it can be with broken attacks and skills so you can steamroll on Vengeance with said demon. Allegedly Devs said there would be other rewards but up until now they haven't disclosed what else if anything is included for owners of the original game beside the demon thingy

as someone that was hugely disappointed with smt 5 im hoping vengeance fixes at least a few of my issues but im not holding my breath 5 was a deeply flawed game

They arent consumed. They have a limit because they're an item, that's all. If you use the item, it just stays in the inventory

I’ve been a Persona fan for ages but never played the OG SMT series. Would this be a good start or should I go back and find the originals?
Every game is its own self contained plot, mechanics are fairly similar between mainline SMT games, I would say this is a fine starting point.
