Completely agree with this comment. The tips about reducing turn count if I hit 2 enemies with weak attacks and 1 gets blocked and the other about being able to change demons out and pass the turn simultaneously to keep the turn going is gold. Thank you
My jaw literally dropped when I found out about the reverse compendium fusion. As someone who likes to try and collect all the demons in these types of games, this is a blessing!
@@Raven22486 basically the reverse compendium fusion looks through both your current demons and the ones you already have registered to use to fuse into the demon you want.
Granted It can be preeeetty expensive, but I’m not far enough to tell if macca becomes a nonissue. I may have to experiment with that magatsushi that greatly increases macca and exp gain
@@m.a.dmatt6689 I felt the same exact way. For all previous games, I'd use fusion charts like the one in the Nocturne guide, then calculate the levels, etc. Reverse compendium fusion is a huge improvement.
A good tip for recruitment if you have no available slots, try and recruit the demon anyway, if you are succesfull it will of course not join, but if you talk to anotherone after you made some space it will auto join. I love that this happens.
Yes, this saves us so much hassle. Same happens when the demon refuses to join you due to level. After your level is high enough they'll auto-join you upon talking.
If you have an almighty damage ability, you don't need to use Spyglasses on the Mitama enemies since almighty damage will deal full damage to them regardless of their weaknesses/resistances.
Wow this actually didn't occur to me and I've played other smt games before. I kept thinking I could only target their weakness. Also afraid of them escaping to try any other ways 😂 thank you!
But its not worth to use almighty dmg since it get reduced dmg even to almighty. Its better use item shard which cost cheap and can be covered by money from battle with mitama alone.
a random tip for fusion, elementals can be used for a special type of fusion you're not told about, that can upgrade or downgrade a demon into another one from the same family. like using a flaemis would turn a "beast" nekomata into a higher level "beast" orthos, where as an aquas would make it into a lower leveled "beast" inugami.
Here is my unofficial number 13. Even if you don’t have the right level requirements or your party is too full to recruit whatever demon you want, still do it. If you do a successful negotiation even if you don’t meet the requirements, the demon is now “reserved”. If you go find any of the same demon after you level up to match it or you open up a spot, that demon will remember and instantly join you.
I wasn't gonna watch anymore SMT5 videos before I play it myself, but your videos are extremely well made, half of this I didn't even know from watching other peoples guides and tips.
Pro tip: Inherit Aramasa (8 light phys attacks) skill from the Aogami type-1 essence you find in a yellow chest early on. It only costs 10 MP and each hit has its own chance of critical hit.
I was so confused when I first saw that in my essence box. I thought that if I fused it it would disappear forever and it would be an important end game item.

*Get those dampener items from the shop* If you feeling scared that a demon would use a powerful wind attack after charging up magatsuhi (you know whom I'm referring to), then pop up a wind dampener to fully protect your team and take away the enemy's turn Sadly, you can only carry a maximum of 3 dampeners but these should be sufficient to use just before the enemy does a powerful elemental attack
A year late to the party, and this is my first smt game, but something I’d like to add is to use your items. I lost my first round against the the first major boss, but when I decided to try out fire and dark dampeners, it literally turned the fight on it’s head, making it much easier to fight it! As a new player I can tell learning how to best block attacks can really turn the tides as it wastes your enemies’ turns.
This is amazingly useful. Thanks for making a guide that isnt garbage. I have watched 3-4 similar videos by other content creators and they literally just lay out 10 things that the game tells you un the first few hours. This guide was actually very helpful.
Pro Tip: Step 1: Use my 300 gold coins in the E-shop I didn't know I had (Which expire in a year) to purchase the increase Mitama EXP DLC. Step 2: Notice an infinite amount of Black Mitama, and kill them. Step 3: Gain 99 Gospels easy, and use 1 for each Mitama you kill to bring you up to level 99. Step 4: What even is the game at this point since I'm level 99 before I leave the first map.
for when you recruit demons, if your stock is full or the demon is higher lv than yours, you can still go through the process to recruit them, when they go to tell you their name they will say either your party is full or your too low lv, when you encounter that demon again with either space in party or you are higher lv, the game will immediately recruit them as you already did that work
I'm finally getting around to pickign this up with the bundle at a discount this weekend and as a series vet this video is both hilarious and informative, so even seven months later thank for for this.
Thanks for the help. SMTV is the best jrpg I've played in a long long time. The enemy design never fails to impress and the world is fun to explore. I like the voice acting too. I'm about ten hours in.
Wow! That fox you mentioned at the end kinda takes the fun out of finding those little buggers… but I am a completionist and I can’t wait to find him lol.
The big bois at 5:08 reminded me of how one day in Megaten 3 i spent an hour trying to transfer the right skills on him.... That was before you could pick which skills get transfered.
Another tip or rather a suggestion. When the enemy gather magatsuhi it help to simply defend on the next turn. It will mitigate a lot of the critical damage, prevent being afflicted by an ailment AND prevent weakness exploit. Aramasa is also a very nice skill early on. 8 weak physical strike, each capable of independently crit, for the cost of 10 MP. It can be gotten from Aogami Type 1 essence which is found not too far from the first boss, along the water stream near Tokyo Tower. Of course each hit will hit around 10 damage at around 24 Strength but that's still 80+ damage, not counting crits which will add a few more hits of damage AND giving you an extra turn.
So helpful! I'll save so much time looking for those little Mimans hiding around the map @9:02 knowing that they'll later be marked on the map! And I had no idea you could just switch resistances with other party members @0:24 , insta-deaths subverted!
A 13th tip I found useful; keep note of the vending machines scattered around the Netherworld. Unlike the yellow treasure orbs, these restock over time, similarly to the Magatsuhi spheres. Their only purpose is to provide you with vending trash to sell to Gustave, so if you hit them up regularly, you can build a pretty massive stockpile of loot that will translate into a big cash reward. Given how expensive it can be just to use the Demon Compendium and recruit demons, and how little Macca you tend to get from fights, it's handy to know.
Just finished the game and my tip is to make sure not to hoard your essences and items! Items are really strong in this game and they get given to you pretty regularly, if you are in a situation where that MP restoration or Physical null will turn a battle around, USE IT! Also make sure not to sit on your essences, especially ones for a demon you have in your party or ones you are close to unlocking. It sucks missing out on an essence from leveling up a demon because you already have it! Also one more thing, if you have a turn in a boss fight with nothing else to do, try throwing out a status item! They will work on everything, including bosses. I made a difficult endgame boss much easier by managing to put him and one of his minions to sleep, which let me buff my party and take out the other minion without any stress and made the fight way easier. You can also shut down a boss's magatsuhi turn if they're unable to act!
Getting this game for Christmas and these tips are dope! Haven’t played an SMT game since IV released on DS and I wasn’t hardcore into RPGs yet at the time to finish it…really looking forward to playing through this game
You really saved me a boat load of time with the Miman tip. I found it really weird that they had map markers but they only popped when youre basically on top of the miman, now I know it's for that fox demon.
Well this video and the op video would have been help several bosses ago for me. This makes me want to start all over from scratch from what i was doing
Surprised you didn't mention that, when using Reverse Compendium Fusion, you can actually get the entire list of potential fusion choices, which are listed from the most expensive at the top to the least expensive at the bottom, so it's always worth scrolling through to see if you can find a more cost-effective or skill-useful fusion than simple Reverse Fusion or Dyad Fusion might offer on their own.
Super helpful guide, im probably going to make a list on all the core demons i want to obtain through my playthrough Aka Special fusions, fusion only demons and exclusive story demons
I'm new to this series, only having played about 30 hours of SMT IV and just starting SMT V, and this whole time i've been replacing passive skills on my demons hand over fist. I didn't realize they were passive, I thought you had to use them on your turn to get the buff. Wow I feel so dumb now lol. Great tips though. Uhh and super great tip on the passive skills. ;v;
I have another tip: I just found out that you can get a total of 26 demons in your party. Most likely during mid to late game, so don't get so fixated on one demon. This gives you the room to explore and improve upon the many demons this game have to offer.
On top of this, demons level very slowly compared to the Nahobino and will eventually lag behind on attack and defense, so it's in your best interest to fuse away your old stuff to improve your party.
Great tips. I just got my third game over, just after the first boss, and it's .... rough. But I'm enjoying the crunch, I've had a craving for a hardcore monster breeding game since .... oh I dunno, Dragon Warrior Monsters back on the GameBoy as a kid. Seems SMT was the series I needed!
when i first playing my mistakes is to go offensive, focus on magic and strength , all offensive skills . but on newgame+ i focus on endurance, like vitality and resistance. back then i waste pretty much rare essence because im so dumb hahah but well its alright, we strive to be smarter after knowing how careless we are before this. on my newgame+ i be following more tips and tricks instead of playing it randomly, this game not just hack and slash its all about strategy and critical thinking.
Thanks for the tips. Leaving the video early cuz I like to find out the hard way. Makes me feel that I'm capable enough when I win. If I fail, at least I know I'm doing my own thang. But I will use your tips about the resistance
I decided to start my first playthrough on hard mode, but only invest in my luck stat. No elemental spells, only instakills and status ailments lmao. Finally got through hydra only to discover all the mobs in the next area will preemptive strike me and instakill my main character lmao
@@BMVfilms well, at this point I'm investing mostly in vitality and and agilty so bosses and ambushes don't murder me as often, but yeah. It's bern very difficult, but with a little luck (lol) the bosses are still doable
Great video! I’m grinding my way through the last area and am wishing I didn’t use my stat upgrade items earlier in the game. The boss fights here are killing me, and grinding is tough.
It's 5:26 am here in Norway, I'm drunk eating some weird polish soup made out of pig intestines (it's delicious), and I find this vid EXTREMELY helpfull. Too much details on my part? Maybe, but still an amazing vid.
This game is amazing and very addictive but dang is it difficult. I dont play many RPGs so there is a lot to unravel here. But thanks for these great tips! What im finding is that somehow im losing magic types such as fire so I have to go back and get someone who had em just to fuse from their essence but I think thats part of it.
tbh smtv was insanely easy for me because as soon as I get amanozako's essence I created a build to resist/null most attacks. In the end I had a nahobino that only resisted two types and nulled or repelled everything else and checking the comments I'm surprised that other people didn't think about this, but I'm also very familiar with the megami tensei series which gives me an advantage ig
Awesome video, what's the name of the 2 demons you used to carry you from mid game to end game (OP healer and magic damage dealer that you talked about)?
Mitama pro tips: Mitamas always null all status effects, so you can't charm them or put them to sleep or poison them Mitamas do have a few fixed spawn locations, so they are always guaranteed to show up there Mitamas always resist almighty damage. They can never null it Mitamas have very low agility compared to the player, so they can never dodge attacks If you have an attack that can pierce resistances, or the skill Impaler's Animus, it will always work on Mitamas. Also, if you made a custom build for any particular demon you can save it to your compendium. Just go to the World of Shadows and when you go to the option to view the compendium, just click the Register to Compendium option and click on the demon you want to save. It will save the demon the exact way you have it set up, with its level, stats, skills and skill potentials. You can even pick between the original demon or your custom build demon if you want to summon it back to your party, at the cost of more macca, but you can only save one custom build at a time. Also, when you go to do compendium fusion, it will always choose the custom build demon for its fusion.
4:03 -- I just fused Alice, so I don't plan on ever dropping this iconic demon. I may save up the items for making her OP. Although, she's pretty much purely darkness, so her attacks get blocked alot
I'm going for a Phys build, at level 43 I have like 55 strength. I regret putting points in anything but strength. I could be at 60~ if I did that. I'll just grind out balms to compensate.
Hi, thanks for your tips, this is my first smt and I'm playing in hard mode. Im finding every small progression quite difficult. Im always lacking money and mana (or magic or whatever is called).....
@@TruePeaceSeeker thanks for your feedback. Yeah, i usually play on normal on most games, but I wanted the challenge this time. Thanks for the tips. Leaving the video early cuz I like to find out the hard way. Makes me feel that I'm capable enough when I win. If I fail, at least I know I'm doing my own thang. But I will use your tips about the resistance
0:34 how did you make all those blocks on affinity? Can you make a guide for that? Please
1st two tips blew my mind 😂😂 I die like 10 times already.
I decided to start my first playthrough on hard mode, but only invest in my luck stat. No elemental spells, only instakills and status ailments lmao. Finally got through hydra only to discover all the mobs in the next area will preemptive strike me and instakill my main character lmao
That sounds like an insane run. Have you been able to maintain that?
This was really good tips
I brought the DLC to farm Gospel and Grimore. The Grinding is too much and I have life man.
Very, very useful. Thanks
I’m late but super helpful. Thanks 🙏
Amazing vids, all of it. But I have a question, How do you get all the resistances as shown in the video?
you da real MVP 🙏
Gold! Thanks man
tbh smtv was insanely easy for me because as soon as I get amanozako's essence I created a build to resist/null most attacks. In the end I had a nahobino that only resisted two types and nulled or repelled everything else
and checking the comments I'm surprised that other people didn't think about this, but I'm also very familiar with the megami tensei series which gives me an advantage ig
Awesome video, what's the name of the 2 demons you used to carry you from mid game to end game (OP healer and magic damage dealer that you talked about)?
Just get to lvl 99 at tye begining of the game and your done
Mitama pro tips:
Mitamas always null all status effects, so you can't charm them or put them to sleep or poison them
Mitamas do have a few fixed spawn locations, so they are always guaranteed to show up there
Mitamas always resist almighty damage. They can never null it
Mitamas have very low agility compared to the player, so they can never dodge attacks
If you have an attack that can pierce resistances, or the skill Impaler's Animus, it will always work on Mitamas.
Also, when you go to do compendium fusion, it will always choose the custom build demon for its fusion.
using a spyglass - huh, I should have thought about it!!!
4:03 -- I just fused Alice, so I don't plan on ever dropping this iconic demon. I may save up the items for making her OP.
Although, she's pretty much purely darkness, so her attacks get blocked alot
Joe Pera Talks You Through a Post-Apocalyptic Tokyo
Man this video its pure stonks in demon economics
I'm going for a Phys build, at level 43 I have like 55 strength. I regret putting points in anything but strength. I could be at 60~ if I did that. I'll just grind out balms to compensate.
Truly a video of showing the path to godhood.
thank you
Damn this is actually useful info
Hi, thanks for your tips, this is my first smt and I'm playing in hard mode. Im finding every small progression quite difficult. Im always lacking money and mana (or magic or whatever is called).....
Dude, I'm an SMT vet and I'm playing in normal rn bcs I know how hard the game can get
Planning to play hard on ng+ tho
@@TruePeaceSeeker thanks for your feedback. Yeah, i usually play on normal on most games, but I wanted the challenge this time. I just finished monster sanctuary which becomes hard in the late game, so I just wanted to keep the challenge up...... But yeah, progression is very hard on hard mode I'm having quite a bit of problems XD
