      @@TheFODRunner no worries Andy very welcome yes it was awesome no PB but all things considered I was happy Alphaflys were great, but as you said in a previous video my view is to keep them for events maybe the odd run in them but I need something else in my rotation. Thinking of the Saucony ride 15 looks a nice comfy trainer.
      Not sure if I will be fit enough for my London Marathon place. I need to lose weight and focus on consistent training. Which to a degree I have been at the same time I have to be realistic. It would be great to also focus on improving my night run time on the Bridge.

    Good race Andy..pacing is the key and not watching other racers..starting steady then slowly ramp up the pace and then kick for the finish..I do look at my heart monitor if I feel I'm cooking it a little bit hot..back off just a tad to maintain the pace, then gather yourself for the kick..especially if you know there's a downhill to use for a boost during the kick..sounds like the others had it paced just right..little tweaks to your strategy will get you right where you want to be..real good to see the saucony pro3 worked well..gonna try a 1/2 this morning in them and see how they work..congrats on a good race..

I didn't realise while watching but you were actually out in front there all that time?!!! And how long/often have you been using the Freeze Roll On? Hi Andy, well done! Can you describe more about how you blew up. Do you think you went too fast for a section, or maintained a pace uphill when you should have slowed? Was it the cumulative effort tripping over lactate threshold or muscle fatigue? The only hint in the vlog was mention of stitch? Did you have any strategy to deal with stitch? Breathing rhythm and synchronising with cadence or anything like that? When you mentally handed over first place to the first guy to overtake do you think there was any other mental game play (maybe telling yourself that his kick to pass you would lead him to blow up shortly and you should draft in behind him)? All planning for future efforts. What a great event though. And a lovely surprise when you turned the camera and Kel was there with you. Well done Kel!

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  2 года назад +2

      Yeah so I suspected it at the time but looking at my HR data when I finished I very much hit my lactate threshold at mile 2 and that’s a pace that the “elites” can hold for an hour max, for us mere mortals it can be less and I reckon for me in past experiences it’s more like 50 minutes….
      But as I didn’t know that at the time, it went like this…
      First 7 miles I felt very strong, next 3 I felt a bit weaker but worked harder to hold the same effort so realistically I was now putting more effort in… mile 11 up the hill I was going ok but half way up my body felt like it just drained of all energy and at that stage my form usually collapses, the diaphragm goes and my form cripples up… so then i get a stitch as my breathing is all out of sync and it’s about being as “upright” as possible and just taking it back a gear and cruising it in.
      I managed to sit behind the first chap that went past me for 100m or so and I told myself to draft behind him but I couldn’t keep up, he paced it so much better.

    • @davesharratt917
      @davesharratt917 2 года назад

      @@TheFODRunner it's sometimes necessary to push just over the edge to see if you can hold it. Better than crossing the line with a strong sprint and wishing you'd given more earlier. Nice to hear that my understanding is aligned... the main new thing I've picked up from your reply is how the stitch can be a symptom of exceeding lactate threshold. That makes sense as it's just another muscle diaphragm) susceptible to cramping and heavily used in running hard efforts! You aren't by any chance at FoD parkrun Sat 3rd Sep?

      Thanks! So it’s a water based solution that you apply 30 minutes / 1 hour before a run and it absorbs into the muscles. It’s an anti inflammatory that helps recovery but you can apply this before a run to “get the muscles ready”… then afterwards I apply the muscle and joint balm to further aid recovery. I’ve used it all training block and it’s been incredible!

    Andy what’s that roll on stuff your putting on your legs fella?

      It’s puresport freeze roll mate, link in the video description…. It’s an anti inflammatory that also acts as a good muscle warmer… it’s water based so you apply it half an hour to an hour before your run… I’ve been using this before every session and long run during this block, magic stuff, along with the muscle balm afterwards… kept my legs feeling ace throughout 💪

    Congrats to you Andy! 3rd place is awesome
    I saw me at 3:25 on the left, went from 1:43 PB in Swansea to a 1:36 here.
    Slowed down at the same part of the race (4th hill) because it got tougher there.
    We can't wait to see what you can accomplish in London 😲

      @TheFODRunner  2 года назад

      It’s puresport freeze roll on, it’s water based and absorbs into the muscles to get them fresh and ready to run, it’s wonderful stuff!
