Congrats, Matt. Takes a lot of grit and determination to consistently put in the work and achieve your goal. Well deserved sub 2:20 and looking forward to seeing your progress continue to improve!
Well done Matt, been following your sub 2:20 journey for a while now. Truly an inspirational journey of persistence and hard work. Kudos from Malaysia!
Awesome work Matt, i have been following for over a year, maybe 2. I dont know you but I’m super happy for you. Youre a core runner and the passion is obvious. Keep being awesome for the sport
Well done Matt ! Thought you could do it this time. I think the extra volume helped for sure plus all the other things you mentioned. Marginal gains and all that. Plus I think you were just more confident this time. Was looking at the tracker and did wonder why the start was quite slow but probably blessing in disguise. Well after halfway it was predicting close to 2:19:00 but then the next one had dropped to about 2:19:45 and a few friends who was chatting with like FOD Runner we were thinking "oh no" but we were relieved to see you pulled it back. Looking at the splits of the WR yesterday with a quite a signficant positive split do you think you might try a "bold" first half strategy next time and see what happens with now not so much to lose as it were.
Amazing accomplishment man!! Been a long time coming. Got a lot of motivation from this as someone who has spent 3yrs, 6-8 marathons trying to break a time barrier and still havent gotten it yet
I said last year if you lost the weight you'd get this and you did. Not saying you reacted to my message but it's obvious if you do the math at your great dedication and fitness this is the result. Congrats Matt.
I saw u on live stats I was so happy that u broke 2:20 depends how hard u work on these last 2 years for sub 2:20. We can't wait for next goal. Congrats mate. LET'S GOOOOO!
I’m so happy for you, Matt! I’ve been following your journey for a couple years now. Thanks for sharing. I just ran my first marathon last weekend and actually got three and a half minutes under the BQ standard for my age group (50-54) for 2026! The last 10k was tough, but I thought of your vlogs for inspiration to get me through.
For what it's worth, I can certify that absolute strangers to whom you've never spoken also screamed at the tops of their lungs when they saw the news that you'd done it; congratulations, you are an ABSOLUTE legend!
Delighted for you, Matt! Smiling seeing you so happy about it. Well earned! I’m looking to beat my PB of 2:26 in Valencia. Your content is part of my routine at this point
I followed your training and saw some things that I would point back to as to why I think you wouldn’t make your goal. But you did it and I couldn’t be more proud of you! Great job!
congrats. clearly in aerobic shape to go much further. good luck getting on top of the cramping in future blocks, look forward to seeing what approaches you take
Major congrats, Matt!! Enjoyed following you and a few others on the tracker app. Obviously it’s not the same as being there but it was great to see you tick off each km on pace to your goal!
Massive congratulations 🥳 I’ve been following the journey for a few years and so happy for you, well done 👏 Hugely inspiring! Congrats to Reem on the PB as well!
Congratulations Matt! Delighted for you! Would you consider doing a video on your food plan for this training block, maybe a video on what you eat in a typical day?
Massive congratulations!! Well deserved! I was surprised by so many slow runners who were between elites and coral D… I’m guessing that people massively overestimated their finishing times so they were placed in faster waves… this led to super congested streets and lots of zigzagging… My Garmin showed “new record” which was running the furthest distance (26.59 😥)… still dealing with post-marathon blues! It’s weird that I too started cramping for the first time ever! Salt stick chews helped some, but I never recovered my pace… Thanks so much for sharing! Great work and congratulations again!!
SO FREAKING PUMPED FOR YOU! I was so happy to see your half split was what you wanted, depending on the packs. The humidity had to have affected you some. STL was so much more humid yesterday than today. But that’s what Indy is for 🤞 Sooooo happy for you and your wonderful wife. Cheers!
Awesome run. Do deserve it. Being light weight works for me too. I drop weight in the month leading up to racing then put it back on in the month after. I don't like saying by by to the six pack but I know it will see it again after the next build.
Compliments ,compliments, compliments Matt.I already saw your great time yesterday on strava site.I was very happy for this special and very deserved result, for all the effort, sacrifices and passion that you always put into the racing and trainings. I only hope to see you and your wife maybe here in Italy to run sometime in a big race.Goodnigth.( Here in Milano are two o' clock A.M. ). Alessandro Difonso Borella Comaschi e Marinella Goberti del Giglio,Italy
Even as a Swede, I can confirm it's crazy to me to hear someone hope it's 0c on race day :D I cook in 20c+, but 10-12c is my sweet spot; would've loved to run Chicago. Well done, Matt!
So stoked for you Matt! Great great run and you've achieved your years-long goal. Congrats Reem on your massive PR as well! What a day and what a WEEK for you both! 💒👰🤵♂I downloaded the BOA Chicago Marathon App to track you guys and Floberg - it was exciting doing the grocery shopping Sunday morning and checking the app and seeing the updates and seeing you right on target. Had the NBC Chicago coverage of the race on YT the whole time too but of course they only show the various lead groups. Fun day following along!
Fun fact: I once filmed Matt and Floberg on a winter run. By the time they were done, both of their mustaches were frozen over. Matt said, this is good racing weather.
Yeah Matt!!! I was following you in the app and actually yelled out "he did it" when you finished. The Mrs was asking what was up 🤣 amazing performance! Congrats!!
I can attest that the heat was a big factor. I was aiming for sub 3 and had a 2 min buffer up to mile 20. Then it got so warm I was dumping water on my head to try to stay cool. Still PR’d but finished at 3:05. Back to the drawing board!
Awesome performance!👏👏Congrats!🙇 That proves once again you can push yourself even in your 40‘s or so. Gives me hopes too, still have some gas in the tank💪🏃

Noticed all your 5k mile averages were within 5 seconds of each other. Very evenly paced throughout. Well done, mate! Congratulations!
Only an American will insist on using mile averages when talking about 5k splits lol
@@delaneypratt Mile averages were all that was available on the Chicago Marathon website. I blame those damn Yanks.
I am fully here for the transition of Sweat Elite from all Pros to Matt's personal running blog!
Lookin forward to
