I appreciate the manner in which you stated your disclaimer/trigger warnings. Normally a video will just state 'trigger warning' in the heading, and that's it. You stated numerous times in the beginning of the video to avoid this if it may not be a healthy thing for the viewer to watch, and didn't even start talking about the topic until 7 minutes in. It gave the viewer ample time to stop the video if they felt it wasn't supportive of their journey. Thanks for your sensitivity to this topic, and good luck on your marathon!!!

Thanks for the detailed breakdown of your diet for this build. I've found that I lose around 3kg (6.5lbs) during a 15 week marathon build. I do track macros and make sure that I'm staying at around 100-200 calorie deficit at most each day. I need to be better at fueling the day before workouts and long runs with harder efforts built in. Thanks for the idea there! Good luck in Chicago.

I usually like watching your videos. I run on the treadmill a lot and gain a lot of motivation from the workout videos, thank-you!
I wonder how many other runners were negatively impacted by your video to lose weight. It stirred something in me, resurfaced an inner drive to be better..to eat less. You had a trigger warning, which was appreciated-but sometimes people who have ED issues aren’t aware they have an ED so ignore the trigger warning. Great topic to talk about. I think runners in general can be a group that is prone to overthink or over obsess over things, which could cause unhealthy habits. Seems like you have a pretty healthy approach.
Big believer in keeping things simple and that your body adapts. In other words. Peak marathon training will probably slim you down a little bit. (Fat loss and muscle mass)
You talk about race weight. Do you mean weight the morning of a race? I could see you weigh in a couple pounds heavier when you do a good carb load (water weight) than say 3 days out.
O and GREAT opiion about the shoes. Talking about overthinking… 😂
    Good luck next couple weeks!

Really appreciate this sober view on such a loaded topic as weight loss. What i wonder is also whether being on low carbs during easy days primes your body to burn fats instead of carbs? I've read some people train on low carbs specifically to train the fat burning metabolism, so maybe this is an added benefit?

This makes a lot of sense to me. I did hit a weight that made me feel uncomfortable in the past at roughly 148 lbs. I was running and working out frequently while eating keto and intermittent fasting. I could not gain weight no matter how much I ate and eventually started incorporating carbs to normalize my weight. That was a few years ago and now I'm on the other end feeling too heavy at 169 lbs. I think I am going to try to get down to 155 or 160 which feels like a sweet spot for me

Taking ketones after workouts also helps restoring muscle glycogen. In low carb athletes nearly the same has level has been measured after two hours without consuming carbs as compared to normal athletes that did consume carbs after workout.

Carbs for recovery are key but I'm not sure it's as important for low intensity training?

As long as you maintain a healthy weight it's fine. Ideally it's just fat loss and balanced out with building muscle. Weight loss can definitely be good to run faster but it obviously depends on the starting weight. If you're going to go from obese to losing 20 lbs it's definitely good. If you're going from a normal BMI to underweight it may not be a good idea.

Thanks for the video. Sometimes I wonder about losing weight and muscle. You have a good muscle volume. Isn't it hard to lose muscle? Outside of my prep, I do bodyweight training = height (72 kg for 1.73 m), a lot of weightlifting, and 30 km per week. During the prep, it's tough to lose weight and muscle. Pale skin, hollow cheeks, poor sleep. I was at 67 kg to do 2h55, 68 kg for 2h45 in Boston, and 70 kg at my last race for 2h45 while struggling...😩

Sadly the fragility of people’s psyche these days has created a diversion from the truth under the guise of “mental health.” No doubt mental health issues are real and mental health is vital to overall health but the term has been used as a scapegoat for some people in denial looking to avoid the tough choices needed to achieve physical health.
