Fantastic achievement, both of you, especially when not feeling at your best! John says it would've felt easier if you'd warmed up properly by doing the parkrun first. 😂 Seriously though, tough grit! 💪
Hi Jess. I didn’t find it quite that bad 🤣 Luckily I’m all recovered now which is good and getting back into some regular running. Well done on your 10k!! I still watch your (and other) channel but have got out of the habit of leaving comments as I mainly watch them on my tv. Hope your next lot of training is going well 😊
Well done Rachel and Rory. It must have been very hard to force yourselves out again at the end of every 4 miles. I knew you wouldn't give up! A great result and in less than 7 hours 30 mins (just). Hope you have both finally got over the cold bug. I look forward to the next challenge.
Thanks Peter. Yes, we’re both much better and the legs have finally started to feel back to normal. We did our first speed session yesterday since the marathon and it went well. We’ve got a trail marathon coming up in a couple of weeks so just ticking over till then. Hope you’re well Peter 😊
The beauty of RUclips, you can find out what you’d like to have a go at, and also the things that you’d run in the complete opposite direction to (literally) 🤣 Well done both on your pbs on Saturday! Excellent running from both of you. We really enjoyed Stratford and will visit again at some point to have another go.
I have never wanted to do an ultra marathon and I can confirm after watching this I still don't want to do one. 😂😂 You are both bonkers. This race won't be on my bucket list 😂😂 Well done both.
Triathlon scares me far more than ultra running 😁 The thought of running a marathon after a 100+ mile bike ride is more bonkers 🤣 I’ve been looking at maybe giving a half or even full distance tri a go next year but the prices are eye watering. Plenty more runs to think about this year so will see how things pan out before I make the leap 🙂
I love running across bridges as part of a half or a full marathon as they seem to rejuvenate me when I come across them in some kind of funny way. And I’m okay with repetition on routes. And so on paper this sort of event would seem to me right up my street. But crikey, the reality of the same out and back over 40 miles in your video hit me hard! Well done to both of you for sticking at it with injuries and bugs and coming in with such great times - that is so impressive!
Hi Chris, thanks. I was quite looking forward to the repetition part of the run, it was probably one of the big appeals of entering. The miles seemed to go past quicker than expected as not only were we counting the distance but also the out backs too. It was a good distraction. It’ll never beat the time in lockdown where I ran loops of my house and garden to complete a marathon. I can’t remember how many but one lap was 34 metres long 😱 …..(even that didn’t bother me 🤣)
That looked like a real slog! Huge kudos to you and Roary for grinding that out! Great running guys! 👏🏅 I heard there was a 200 runner who DNF unintentionally on the final lap because he didn't cross the red box properly on the other side so his final lap didnt count. That's the definition of gutting right there! Look forward to the future ultras Rachel! 😎🤘
Thanks Ben! Hope you’re recovering well too? 😊 Yes, that’s correct, a runner didn’t cross the timing box at the far end and his lap didn’t count. He would have only had one more to complete after that but he ran out of time because of the unregistered leg. Sooooo close, I can’t imagine how he felt. I’m not sure I’d not want to go through that again, just for those last 2 laps 🫤 100 seems doable (just) but I couldn’t even contemplate double that distance.
Wow congratulations. I saw myself doing the parkrun and we did wonder what was happening on the other side. My secret Ultra fuel is choc Weetabix on the go & a PH caffeine gel - always keep for the victory lap!
Hi David, I tried to get a better shot of the runners on the other side. I did stand on the barrier but my balance wasn’t great 😬 Weetabix is the best ultra food. Tastes good and has enough calories to make it a nice extra. Not so much for Rory, he says it gave him a dodgy tummy so I don’t think he’ll be trying that one again 😁
Thanks! We were lucky with the weather. A bit warm but the breeze helped. It had been forecast thunderstorms for the afternoon but we missed them. Not that far away was hit pretty hard with torrential rain. Not sure how that would have gone down for everyone 😁
10 times doesn't sound like a lot. It almost sounds easy peasy from that point of view. Do one rep and you're already in single figures! However, there's no hiding the distance of 40 miles. It's a long way. Especially when it's a bit monotonous. Although I do love that bridge myself, I think it'd be mentally tough. Well done Rachel and Rory 👏
Thank you! We played lots of number games to split the laps and miles up. Luckily I didn’t get too confused in the counting. 100 miles or heaven forbid 200 miles, I’d have to have relied on checking the timing website to remind me how many miles I’d done 😁 We definitely want to visit again but maybe just to take a stroll or take on the parkrun again… for now anyway.
It's not that ultras don't scare me - they do. But an ultra that's 100% tarmac? If anyone needs me, I'll be hiding in the closet. Mega kudos for completing it to you both!
Thanks Marcus. I probably go against the grain, I quite like long distances on the road. Not that I’ve done many. In fact this is probably only the 2nd. I think it’s easier, although I know most long distance runners probably wouldn’t agree 😬
You showed that bridge who's boss! Great running guys! Looking forward to your other ultras 👍🏻🏃♂️ I have some decathlon shorts with the storage pockets around the waist. They're my favourite for every run 😁
Thanks Mark. Yep, 1 nill to us (just) 😁 Yes, the decathlon shorts are brilliant. I wore the short tight version for Newport and I could put all my gels and my camera in easy. The baggy ones are great now it’s warmer. I have 3 baggy pairs and 2 tight ones. At £25 they were a great price too 🙌
@@racheld1844 I think I'll go for the 200 miler instead 😬 I was looking at running the Walsall Parkrun today, but I've had a trapped nerve in my back since Monday, so it's on the back-burner for now.
Wow pretty epic run. It did look like it was mentally tough to run back and forth along that bridge. At least it was easy to get resupplied but mentally I think the monotony would be the hardest part. Also running in a small race like that. Nice work on your overall placement and amazing you did this weeks after a full marathon. Just waiting for my 10k to start as I type this. Enjoyed your video!
Thanks Eddie. Hope your 10k went ok? I really need to enter some shorter events to help get my speed back. I think we were both too worried we’d not finish to think too much about the ‘route’ We both didn’t mind too much doing all the out and backs. Although as we ran most of the 2nd half alone, we had no one to moan too 🤣
@@racheld1844I figure that once you settled into a groove you'd just get over the repetitive nature of the route. Occasionally I'll do my long runs over a repeated stretch. The 10km went okay. I was 3 minutes slower than last year which is disappointing but still got a better time than last week's 10k. I lost quite a bit of my fitness with a medical episode. It's coming back but it's been a slow process
If you are considering giving this a go then I’d definitely recommend it. It’s a real different experience to anything else I’ve done. Might see you in 2026 (next time it’s on) 😁 We have a trail marathon coming up in 3 weeks but keeping the next 2 ultras under wraps for now. They aren’t till the autumn time so we have our summer to properly get ready for them.
Fantastic achievement, both of you, especially when not feeling at your best!

We’ll add it to the list next time John 🤣🤣 but only if you join us for the warm up and the main event 😁
Incredible. I think I would have entered a homicidal rage within the first two hours!

Well done, both! Looked like a big one, especially psychologically. Can’t even fathom 200.
Thanks Mack, all good preparation for Malvern, just without the hills 😁
3 weeks today!!
I'm looking forward to it! Well, the first few miles...@@racheld1844
Brilliant, running. true strength.
Thank you. There wasn’t an option to transfer or defer so we thought, well, we’ve paid for it so why not just give it a go 😁
Good. God.
Fair play to you both.
Thanks Tim. Not one I thought Rory would agree to signing up for, but it was him who entered first 😁
You two are absolutely crazy 😅😂😂 superb effort and that's one I can make sure I never do 😂 epic little event too 😊
