      Thanks sandrinesgallery! I don't think any art supply companies will include the yellow mineral block in their art box anytime soon! :) It would be too toxic of a paint and too expensive as an art box! :)

    I have Chinese watercolors from Maries and I really like them. Unfortunately only the vegetable colors bleach quickly. I started to substitute for it.

      Hi AskiaLuna! Yes, I agree - Maries are pretty good paint (also economical) for beginners. There are more professional mineral paints (like the mineral blocks or color set I've mentioned in the video) if you intend to exhibit your work or if you are a professional painter. Since practice is the key for any beginner painters, it might not be a bad choice to go for tube paints. I also like the japanese paints, they are used widely by Lingnan style painters as well since the art form was influenced by both Japan, China and the West during the 19th century. :) Hope you enjoy painting, add a link and show us some of your work sometime!

      Yes, I have already read of those. www.inkston.com/stories/guides/chinese-colours/
      I like to use the maries to practice. in the west, the pictures always hang on the wall, so I look out there and many colors are also poisonous.

      @@askialuna7717 I read this article a while back, it's very informative. Yes, these colors could be very toxic.

    I have a question, Can we use acrylic paint for chinese painting?

    • @JoyBrush
      @JoyBrush  3 года назад +3

      Good question Amirah! I use acrylic paint on my mixed media Chinese painting but I use a wood canvas instead of rice paper. Generally, acrylic paint is not designed to be used on rice paper and I would not recommend using Acrylic as a Chinese painting medium since it can easily damage the paper and wrinkle during drying process. Chinese painting materials are water based (similar to watercolor) and it is very different than oil or plastic based paint like oil paint and acrylic. That being said - it is always good to experiment and not limit yourself in the creative process as an artist. Hope it helps!
