Is ceramic coating for motorbikes really worth it??

- Having found an un-used bottle of Armor Shield ceramic coating I thought let's do an experiment. Is it really worth it on a motorbike??

I had my bike ceramic coated by a local detailer. He does some bikes but his main work is more high end cars, I know him and he has a very good reputation born out by a long wait list. The bike was more or less new but he stripped it down to give it a really deep clean and did the bike over several days. It was applied all over, including the engine less accessible areas were done using an airbrush adding a little to the cost as the airbrush can only be used once as the ceramic hardens inside. Over a year on the bike still looks good, the bottom end still takes a fair bit of cleaning but looks like new when done. The only downside is protecting the ceramic which means choosing your cleaning products more carefully so no wheel cleaners, citrus cleaners etc.

I found air can be a bit turbulent and tried about five screen set ups, and settled on the Pikes Peak screen. Less protection but cleaner airflow.
Yea I ceramic coated my H2 and got the second skin protection kit fitted too, 15k and five years later, she’s still tip top👌🏽

I think it’s worth ceramic coating your bike. I had mine done professionally by CF Ceramics Chester (MAC Detailing). It takes all day as they deep clean the bike, machine polish and correct any paintwork blemishes. They apply the bike specific ceramic coating (3,5 or 8 year coating, safe up to about 1000 C) to virtually every surface by airbrush.
Cleaning the bike is much easier. I use PH neutral traffic film remover, left on as per instructions and agitated with a soft brush as required. This is followed by PH neutral snow foam, wash that off, blow dry and a quick buff with a soft cloth.
Mine has been on a couple of years now with no corrosion and no sticker mess like ACF 50.
That's reassuring to know. Mine was defo not professional but hope its at least close to a Prof job. I wasn't concerned about paint correction as unlike car paint it's less of an issue for me on bikes. Thanks for commenting Kev

I'm.planning an exhaust camera and mic on the akra full system ridden hard rather than boring cold start shite you see all the time lol. Also doing picos and Portugal tour in May.

Watch getting your left hand switchgear very wet after washing, I heavily washed my rally, day after indicators and red cc lights on dash for week or so, suddenly vanished and it could only be water getting into the switches, bike starts etc but button’s won’t work, all perfect now so I would suggest when you do wash it maybe put some bin liners over the button’s, I’m going to mention it next time I’m in Ducati Coventry, enjoy the ms , it’s incredible 😊

I think the strobe effect is caused by the camera settings. You should be able to choose a 50/60 Frames/second.
In the UK choose 50Hz as this matches the UK Voltage frequency.
or choose 25 fps for shots like this where yoiu don't need need a high frame rate.
50 works best when moving 25 is fine for more static videos.

It's something that will make you think it's good because water all beads up neatly
But really it's the prep that's done that is the main benefit, not the coating
A decent wax will do exactly the same job
Ask yourself why no vehicles come from the factory with this coating on

Have to agree here, and people who CC or PPF their bikes don't ride them in the winter, never putting the product through a proper test...
If it's just dusty and general road dust + bugs on the bike, it comes off easy as anything even with no protection applied with some muc-off or similar.
If it's being off roaded, the mud and sand will VERY quickly wear the coating off anyway.
If it's being ridden in the winter, same story, and it's the road salt that's the big killer...
CC is only useful for making sure your paint doesn't go streaky from rain, that's it.
For winter and offroad use u're much better served by applying some sort of spray on grease/lube like silicone spray or ACF50, this will keep dirt/dust particles suspended so they don't bake/harden onto the surface, and that's the best you can hope for, obviously needs reapplying every deep clean or so.This will also keep your bike from rusting.
100% agree. I ride 10 months a year in the UK and do also use ACF40 and an alternate once called NTX or similar as can't remember at the mo
I had mine done at a reputable company took them all day bike looked amazing when I collected it, can't get wet for a week, went out after a week came home left bike in garage for a week and it had rusted in loads of places either it didn't work or the decontamination went a bit far and was not coated after, never went back just put it down to being complete crap, and yes I know I shouldn't have left it wet but you can't always do it afterwards.
