As someone who's seen that one Japanese dude make an absolute fool out of this entire game with the croc cap on, this takes second place for most blatant and creative abuse of game mechanics yet still done in a realistic way.
I’ve played this game enough times to have mechanics and enemies memorized almost to this extent, but I’ve always loved just being a pure ghost; no alerts, no sightings, no kills, using my binos to watch enemies and moving as slowly as possible, very occasionally chatting with the support crew (usually if I had Snake stop to eat). Always considered it the canon way to play.

I never used the knocking much, but ill never forget first being shown MGS3 and just before getting into the labs walled courtyard my brothers friend sets tnt/claymore, knocks on the door, says "Girl scout cookies!" and dives into some grass. A guard will actually come through from the other area and set off the claymore.
Man I remember playing this back in the day on PS2. I beat this game so many times. This use to be my favorite game of all time. That part where you lure the guard out, climb the ladder and drop down on him from above. I use to do that exact same thing. I had a very particular way of playing this game. Great times. And great memories.

Over the last 20 years, I've gone through each of them systematically, looking for every trick and secret, and posting them on GameFAQs. MGS3 is one of my all-time favorite games, which is not something I say lightly. If you want to get extra creative with the guards, you can also sneak up and attach TNT to their backs. It's especially fun if you have infinite ammo.

@@doejon9424 idk about that I think mgs3 does a really good job of encouraging players to experiment. You probably just get recommended speedruns because we know everything there is to know about the game at this point so speed run content is popular.

I never realised you could shoot the soldier's radios, that's such a good detail. And it gives you a reason to use the 1911 if you're trying not to kill anyone
U can use the tranq gun to shoot them out as well, but u can use the 1911 to body shot them to quickly stun them to then CQC them Longest stun i think is a leg shot, so yeah if ur a non-lethal player u can use this strat so the 1911 doesn't collect dust
Man I still HATE how the closest you got to a crouch walk in this game was using the box and walking. Here's hoping the remake will fix that which I already know it will

Not sure if you know, but you can use the d pad movement in 3 to move silently but slower, this would let you move up close enough to grab a guard without them hearing you. I noticed you shot two guys to give you room to walk up to them, this would solve that issue. Cool approach overall though, I like your style!
Sorry, i mean where you knock into a guy wearing your cardboard box then hit them with your roll while they're still off balance, should end up giving them the weakest stun status or whatever you call it, 3 little stars, I'm speaking out of memory of course, it's been ages since I've personally played, could be remembering wrong or leaving out something, sorry
Yeah i can see why the controls and the control scheme can be very 'foreign' to say the least but if you put the time in and learn it you'll end with one of the most rewarding gameplay experiences you'll ever play it is worth it

I really just wish we could map the controls to our liking, r1 to look first person and then pressing the left stick to pull the gun out, and then hitting square to shoot is just such a crazy control scheme😭😭 its certainly something you gotta take the time to get used to. @@che7293 yeah, coming to the series with MGSV and playing later games was a bit rough. I did play MGS 1-2 before master collection came out though, so it softened the blow for me quite a bit. I recommend playing them if you haven't btw

@@manlymcbeefinton2014 indeed, i found a way to keep it playable with pressure buttons. Im using an xbox controller on the emulator, i just swap the pressure buttons to the triggers that are the only buttons on the controller who have pressure sensitivity, can say its working pretty well

It's a supply room. If you blow it up soldiers in the area will go hungry if you wait long enough. You can then bait them into eating poisonous items you drop like mushrooms, frogs, or spoiled food. In MGS V you can send your own soldiers to do the same but for weapons and protective gear. Only you won't see them doing it but you'll notice it on enemy soldiers in the field have less protective gear.

I was in the same boat as you, but if you press on it will eventually click, and when that happens, boy is it worth it
To me it happened right as I stopped trying to aim right when I was moving, I became way more accurate after that

When in a chokehold you can throw them by holding forward on the stick and pressing circle at the same time

For as janky and unrefined as certain aspects of MGS3 can be, I'll always adore it as one of the most mechanically deep games in the stealth genre. This coupled with what I consider to be the franchise's best writing, makes MGS3 easily my favourite Metal Gear by a mile.
