The London Marathon is 26 miles, this is 30 miles across diverse terrain with about 40lbs of kit on your back, it's just mad to think about. As once said, each of these marines are trained to international athletic level, it's mental.
Basically, the RM's have 32 Weeks of Selection which I think is the equivalent of boot camp. This is done in the final week along with the assault course, the endurace course and the 9 miler.
The lads in the Falklands didn't want to surrender, they had already slotted one Argie and were all for heading into the hills and guerilla fighting for as long as it took for backup to arrive. They were ordered to surrender by Rex Hunt, cos ultimately the sooner the Argies announced they had taken over, the sooner we could mount the appropriate response - which was, mount up, get down there and sort em out.
The Copral was saying the fitness examination etc, we wont probably start until Jan now, as he was saying they run the course twice per year now... quite a long wait but i am going along for a couple of Holding up Troop sessions. I wanna get the forms and apply next Wednesday to be honest, but he told us to have a deeper think about things, try a few training sessions and take it from there.. Im in the Bermondsey HQ..
@xUKxASx the royal marine recruit training is the hardest basic training in the world, dont think you can go into it unprepared, you will be droped after the first 5 minuets if you do. i was training for about a year before i went for my PRMC
what do you mean mos?our training covers everything in 32 weeks m8,theres foundation phase, indviual skills, advanced skills, operations of war, commando phase, kings squad.alot of time is spent on field exercies
floydian218, in reply to your comment below, they dont need motivating. they've been through almost 32 weeks of trainin and its the last task before they get their green lid. thats all the motivation needed pal
I guess for that distance (in those boots) 32 weeks of training will make up for the ankle support that regular walking boots would have provided. I don't know the weight of the full kit? But anything ranging around 10Kg (for his age) may be possible provided he had the mental stamina. These are all variables though :)
He made it sound like he was doing it in his military boots from cadets. Also, he said full kit, which for the 30 miler is around 60lbs... Either way, it's not comparable to anything the royal marines have to do in any part of training.
well ive got a 5 year uni course to pull through lol, and ill be doing a lot of rugby so unless something terrible happens then my fitness should be good enough, cheers mate
my dad served in the RAF gunners in the 50's and grandad served in the batttle of somme, my bro' s in army it was kinda predictable i would go for marines lol!!
@Hoobler94 well iv been a marine for 5 years and i would never give someone my beret and everyone i no would never give it away people keep there lids for the rest of there lifes and even tho its just a beret it means alot to the people who earn them
Hi Guys ! And what do you think about the French Navy commandos ? They have the same drill since our allied trained them in Achnaccary in 1942 ! They were in Number 4 commando ...
Has ever been a "dummy fight" between Royal and US Mariines? It is interesting to know who is the best trained, even if I have read that British officers are very well trained and the most intelligent in the World, but the US Marines have got the advantage to have black people that are athletically favourished
Oue equivalent of the Swedish Paras is the Parachute Regiment I believe (They are elite, but not special forces). SAS, SBS, SRR and the Pathfinders are our special forces.
Non stop.. 8 hours... my God any man who cpletes this i take my hat and socks off to.. i suppose i better start trying more then just 10k then.. LOL.. Mate many thqnks for your advice, any other tips or advice you can give, i would hugley appriciate. Mike.
@yootoobrob this is done over windswept hill of dartmoor and thay have around 48lbs plus the days before thay did tarzan assault course ,nine mile speed march, and endurance course so there bodys are aready fucked
No, walking 25 miles a day isn't that difficult at all, but if you have the full Bergen on like he said he did, it's not happening. Going back to his previous point the boots aren't that good actually, they're pretty much the most below average boot you can get. How do I know this? I have mine.
100 miles in 4 days is not hard provided you have put in a little training. The 31 weeks training would be overkill. I know this because i walked "El Camino De Santiago" - That is a 550 mile trek across spain.
it is alot easier than the other tests . its the last one so the adrenaline gets you through it . xturtlebeach , who ever you are , ive done the course mate and another 10 years on top of that so i can make a comment . of course its not fuckin easy .
After I finish uni Im hoping to be an officer in the marines, anyone have any advice on how to train for this? im starting to train for a marathon as thats 26 miles, difference is that in a marathon you dont tend to carry all that weight with you
Hi Mate, I have decided to go in for the RMR (Weekend Warrior) and i waws told on Wednesday at a briefing that RMR selection process, 3 phases in which you end on a 30 miler, is that 30 miler pur jogging? i ask as im currently running 10k 2 times per week and thats hard enough as it is..! Cheers Mike
@ryanT2792 why is this comment flagged? tea and pasties are british... i'm british and i love both of those things... your getting a click on the NOT SPAM button sir!
Oh good some ex rmc! I'm applying in two years. So how do I get prepared? Any advice? How did u guys train for the PRMC tests and even this? Pls help. Rmc is a dream
heh, even yall compare you army and marines. anywho, wheres the yelling and the stress and the motivation (or false motivation) seems much too relaxed to me.
Because you dont need to be shouted at and motivated, the Royal Marines expect you to motivate yourself, and think for yourself, they treat you like an adult and expect you to act accordingly.
looks easy...? ok, this is close to the end of 32 weeks training... aka not fucking easy. (why foxboy would never be a marine.. or get in the navy lmao noob)
I like to see the USMC do this.
the thing about rmc is that the instructors do some of it with them unlike the us and other countries who just leave them to do it in groups
These boys are incredibly stoical. I really admire their strength of character. Well done.

a cup of tea and pasty i would die in about a minute if tht was wat i was goin on ! massive respect for these guys
Dont worry about training for the 30 miler. Just get fit enough to get in, and they build you up to it gradually in training.
cuppa tea and a pasty this is what Britain is made on, tough as nails
I'm 16 and I've just applied and have started training. Can't wait to get down to business and I really can't wait. Fingers crossed I pass
I'm 16 and I have just applied. I can't wait to start all the tests at the start and really can't wait for the training. Fingers crossed I pass
TheJak94 have u passed
@subway107 theyre feet get used to it and become calloused they rain tons before this so they should be fine

My mates just started his RM training he is about to start his second week, i cant wait to see him when he comes back
we carry,gortex jacket/trousers,spare cloths,socks,emergency rations,water bottle in the pack
press ups- aim for 60...sit ups- aim for 80 and chin ups 6(overhand grasp)
The Copral was saying the fitness examination etc, we wont probably start until Jan now, as he was saying they run the course twice per year now... quite a long wait but i am going along for a couple of Holding up Troop sessions.

Excellent... memories of 1972 & my RM training
the military way to put it is "shuffling" its a bit slower than runnin

Necking the pasty in about 1 minute when your mouth is as dry as a dry thing is the hardest thing about the 30 miler. Gen.
Ive just joined up.And i cant wait
I think it was 40lbs of kit when I did it Harry in year 2000 . All the best.
its better to dont talk if you are running/walking big distances but its more fun
The 30 Miler hasn'' had 32 weeks of training.
tat was exactly wat i was thinking abt
the 30 miler is definatly the best cdo test just drink lots of ogging the night before, tape your feet and enjoy the scenery
floydian218, in reply to your comment below, they dont need motivating. they've been through almost 32 weeks of trainin and its the last task before they get their green lid. thats all the motivation needed pal
I would aswell. But i doubt i'd have the academic qualifications etc. I'd love to try for it someday though.
you learn everything in 32 weeks, but u still train when u get to ur unit when u go on exercise or optag
Congratulations to whom have passed this very test.
@envvvyy it's Nijmegen and you only carry 10kg plus food and water if your over 18
8hrs for commando 7hrs for officer
The foreign legionnaires aren't french anyway they're just people from other countries who go fight for the french

@yootoobrob this is done over windswept hill of dartmoor and thay have around 48lbs plus the days before thay did tarzan assault course ,nine mile speed march, and endurance course so there bodys are aready fucked
@GamersUnite543 Start running? Marine training is some of the hardest shit ever. If you dont think you can do it, you cant
That's not really water. That's tea
No, walking 25 miles a day isn't that difficult at all, but if you have the full Bergen on like he said he did, it's not happening. Going back to his previous point the boots aren't that good actually, they're pretty much the most below average boot you can get. How do I know this? I have mine.
its all a front the reality is that we are under equiped like most armed forces.
I did mine just earlier this week and it hurts.
@Jamietran123 ye its easy to do 14 miles on road but over dartmoor is even hard to walk in some places dead boggy and that

After I finish uni Im hoping to be an officer in the marines, anyone have any advice on how to train for this? im starting to train for a marathon as thats 26 miles, difference is that in a marathon you dont tend to carry all that weight with you
