      I was just about to say this. Also the video shown of the failed press, the player attribute can also contribute to that too. Poor decision, anticipation, concentration and positioning does influence that. Also, training schedule. I recently tested something from The Coaches Book on YT (still testing). Training does influence gameplay. This is brilliant though. This pressing thing has been a bone of my existence because I have seen the AI with some unique pressing shapes (Aston villa). This is refreshing, already envisioning how this would work with a better team Thanks man.

      @@nerdifymusic7322 That's one of the things that I always have a tricky time with whenever talking about player roles and tactics in these videos (talking about player attributes, failed press, etc..). There are so many different variables that go into watching a match play out, that you can't say with a definitive answer what will happen or why certain things played out the way they did. All I try to do is put players in the right position and hope things work out 🤣🤣
      And glad you enjoyed the video!

      @@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I really did. It even gave me a couple of ideas. You're correct, one can't definitively put a finger on why it happens but there's no denying the effectiveness of your idea. I'm not gonna lie, this thing has been pissing me off because I have an idea of how I want to press but certain players especially my forward isn't doing his job in that regard forcing other players particularly my wingers to break pattern. The worse part of it is that I have seen the AI do better with the pressing. The reason I brought up training was the one time I didn't implement my Opposition analysis into my training for a game (since I started to do that like yesterday 😅), my press was crap against a team good at holding onto the ball, a lower league team for that matter. I pride myself in possession so that pissed me off to no end.

The things you say just make sense and easy to understand and I am "relearning" how to play FM thanks to you. You can watch 1000 videos about what roles to use etc. but its usless if you dont actually understand what things do. I am truly amazed with that video. I am always reluctant to change players roles during season to the point where my team's tactic familiarity goes down to less then 80%. I was under impression that match engine punish players who try to mimic real life football - meaning adjusting your system to stronger opponents (which is a problem when You dominate your domestic league while being underdog in European competitions). You've prove me wrong Sir! Thanks, I will definitely try to experiment more :)

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker

      thank you and glad you liked the video!! I've always found that changing tactics could potentially hurt your familiarity, but you gain a lot by trying to take advantage of the opponent. These are completely made up numbers, but let's say your team plays 5% every time you switch to a new tactic, but if the new one makes you 10% better, it's a net positive! (that analogy made sense in my head, so hopefully it made sense haha)

    Very good video! I love how you break down the tactical arrangments and demonstrate them in action against Haaland. Your pressing forward on defensive pressing from the front to the defensive midfield, was truly impressive.
    I have a suggestion for a future video: analyzing Riccardo Calafiori's mid-forward runs. This is a must-see case study for understanding modern tactics. If successful at Arsenal, many teams will likely adopt similar strategies. It would be a great way to gain a deeper understanding of player roles and tactics. This could be a valuable learning experience for viewers.

I won 4-2, 16 shots 6 on target xg of 2.80 and they were restricted to only 3 shots, xg of 0.38. This video actually gave me flashbacks of two different saves of mine:
    1. Sparta Rotterdam save on FM22. Having dominated dutch football domestically, in Europe I was getting close, but not quite. One day on a european match against a bigger opponent, I decided to switch to Attacking mentality. This gave me a 3-0 win on the first leg but the result wasn't the most important outcome of the match. Attacking mentality does not only bring the play to the opposition's defensive third, but the game is played away from your defensive end as well. Your defending players have less defensive work to do and can contribute more on attack. This works well with a gegenpress style of play. The more aggressive you are when losing the ball and the higher you press your opponent on the pitch, the more rewarding it will get. A year later, I won the Europa League and 2 years later, I reached the Champions League final. It also depends on the opponent. If you play against Zwolle for example (no offense), you are prepared to see 11 players behind the ball, so you have to work harder in possession, or even decide to give up possession to them and try to break their formation by making them commit errors. But if you play against Manchester City and have pacy defenders, there's a good chance you'll get a result.
    2. Yeovil town save on FM15. From League 1 to the Premier League, where I gained multiple promotions, celebrated great results and made the team a solid mid-table team that avoids relegation easily, with less than 40% possession. It was all about defending and crossing the ball forward. Great physical players, pacy wingers, ball winning midfielders and a young Kieffer Moore that was able to play as a central defender too. I still remember a win at Goodison Park on FA Cup when still playing in League 1, where I ended up playing 5-5-0 for the last 30 minutes of the game (one of the midfielders was at Box to Box role, so he could get to the opposite box if the opportunity allowed).

      Also, thank you too for your Central Midfielder role video. In the support role, without any hard-coded instructions (HCI), it can be a powerful role especially depending on his traits. I remember watching one of (I believe it was) Zealand's video that one of the five most important attributes for the CM role are his traits.
      Sadly there are no role for the winger (AMR/AML) where there are no HCI. I have a winger with the potential to become a "2-way winger" (can cut inside & become a touchline winger) & although the Inverted Winger seems to be the closest (like you explain on your video & also thank you for that too), I personally don't feel it has the freedom like a CM on support role.

    One of the best explaining videos of how a tactic can work! Congrats! Quick question: Do you use the same players in those different roles? I mean Barkley has been playing as a CM, a playmaker, a CAR and so on. Same with other players. Do you think anyone can play anything? Also I think SI must rename the defensive Winger to Pressing Winger the same way they did with the forwards. And one suggestion: Make a video where your plan didn't work out and how you try to fix it during a match but couldn't. Thanks for your content!

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  2 месяца назад

      Thank you for the kind words!
      As far as the question, I like to use different tactics throughout a season, so I usually favor if someone can play in a position in a tactic over what the exact player role is. I like the flexibility and being able to switch stuff around if I need.
      Using Barkley as the example, he can basically play anywhere in the midfield, but I'll only use him in those positions he is at least familiar with. Meaning I wouldn't use him as the defensive winger, for example (unless injuries, suspensions, etc...)
      He'll still exhibit his playmaking abilities even if he's not necessarily in a playmaking role. In this video where he was the Carrilero, it was hit shot that led directly to the second goal.
      Hopefully that made sense/helped a little!!
      And I think if SI renamed it to the "Ball Winning Winger" or something it'd be the most popular role.
      Also I love that video idea!!! I'll see if I can get started on something; it shouldn't be too hard to fail at a tactic hahaha

    Great video! I just have a couple of questions (that may well be obvious but oh well)
    1. What kind of player is needed for a pf (d) rather than a pf (a), and also does them both being high pressing roles mean they could be in bad positions for attacks?
    2. Is it better to focus on defense attributes or attacking ones for a dw?
    3. Would this work on teams worse than you who wouldnt play out the back as much, and would this be remidied by just making it a possession tactic by lowering the tempo/passing directness?
    Love your channel keep up the great content!

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  2 месяца назад +1

      Thank you! And thank you for the questions!
      1. For a pressing forward, the biggest thing to me in a player is work rate. I can work with any type of player, but give me good work rate who will run. And Luton's two strikers have excellent work rate. In this video, the PF (D) had a work rate of 15 (great for the Premier League) and the PF (A) had 18 (which is world class).
      And yea, they could be/would be less positioned to make an attack if you win the ball. One benefit of using wingers in the midfield, is that more often than not, they'll get the ball and dribble up the field. This gives your strikers more time to get up the field. You could also switch one of the PF to a more attacking strikers (AF/Poacher) if you wanted a striker that stays up the field. FM is all about trade-offs and how you want to manage your defensive, transition, an attacking phases.
      2. For the DW, I'd rather have a player that is well-rounded, rather than being better at attacking or defending. But if I had to choose, give me a player with good crossing and dribbling.
      3. I believe the defensive part of this tactic wouldn't be affected too much by a worse team, but you're right in that a more possession style would probably be better. We were able to move the ball quickly up the field since Man City would commit numbers forward, but if you're playing a team with 8 players in a low block, you may not have as much luck.

    I've just come across your video's today, I watched this particular one enjoyed it immensely and I'm about to go and check out your other content. I've also liked and subscribed. I have many issues with FM regarding tactics, my biggest being SSS(second season syndrome) in which I very much over achieve in season 1 but despite improving my squad I struggle in season 2. What usually happens is that I create more chances(ccc's) than the previous season yet score fewer goals and despite allowing the opposition fewer(less CCC's) chances they score more frequently.
    This has meant that I rarely have a save that goes past season 2, I just get frustrated and end up quitting and starting a new save. Have you witnessed this yourself and if so, how do you go about rectifying the problem? Cheers

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  2 месяца назад +1

      thank you for the support and commenting!
      And I've totally had that second season issue. The big one for me is (usually) if you stay promoted or get promoted, you bring in new player. So you're bringing in new players and it upsets the current team dynamics, since you're old team had gotten a big boost. Now you have to re-do your team's chemistry. I can't remember exactly what it's called, there's a notification on your squad dynamics page and it tells you how your team's chemistry it. This'll give benefits (or not) to your player's position, passing, vision, etc... too many new players will drive this down.
      Hope that helps!

    Just came across your channel and instanely subscribed, so much detail with quality and simple explanations 🤩, i found the channel as i am wanting to try a new tactic that involves DW's as i want to be really aggressive with high pressing and bit bored of using WB's. I am 15 seaons in with Kettering Town and have won last 3 Premier leagues but yet to win a CL and only 1 final in 7 attempts. But i am stuck on the 4 central roles. i want to try 3CB(2WCB)-2DM's 2 DW - 2 CAMS and 1 ST, i am looking for a mix of high pressing and high possesion, which is why i have created the box 4 in the middle. So for the 2 DM's i was thinking RPM and BMW(su) after watching your videos, with 2 SS's. But also maybe i could use 2xBMW(su) and then have a playmaker as 1 of the CAM's maybe an Engache as i also watched that video with Ross Barkley 🤣 do you have any advise or suggestipons for these 4 roles? i have a lot of elite and world class players which is why i am looking to be so aggrssive and mix it up a bit

      Glad you're enjoying the channel!!! and welcome!
      As for your question, this is my personal tactical preference, but I don't like to use any kind of BWM without some sort of protection next to him. So an RPM and a BWM (or two BWM) will both want to leave their position, and could leave your center backs under a lot of pressure. Use a DM pair of a BWM with a DLP(D), Anchor, DM(D), depending on your preference
      If you wanted to use an Enganche, I would try two defensive midfielders with something like an Anchor and a BWM(S), or a Defensive Midfielder (D) with a BWM.
      Or if you wanted the RPM, use an Achor with him. This'll let the RPM go wherever he wants, and the centerbacks will still have protection.
      Of course, you can always just bludgeon the other team and aim to win every match 5-2 or something haha. Good luck!!

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  2 месяца назад +1

      The short answer is I really enjoy changing tactics and switching things up so I'm okay with the hit to tactical familiarity haha
      The long answer is that I don't use a lot of team instructions (I think this one had 3 total instructions?) so when I change things around, there's not a lot of instructions to get re-familiar with. This would be more of an issue if I used a ton of team instructions for a certain style (say a low tempo possession tactic with 8 or more team instructions) and then switched to a complete opposite tempo (a very high tempo, direct passing counter style with 8 completely new instructions) for the next match. Then the team has to get familiar with all these new instructions and that takes time. The less instructions, the less the players have to learn or re-learn.
      I'm also more concerned with my player dynamics than I have with familiarity. I forget the exact screen, but it's on the squad dynamics page and it tells how your playerers will perform on the field together. The better your dynamics, the better their passing, vision, cohesion, familiarity, etc...

      As for your question in the short term, My tip would be to watch one of your matches and pay attention when the opponent has the ball. Ask yourself some questions: do I like when they are able to build up and work the ball into our half of the field, which leaves space in behind to counter? Or do I want to press them immediately and not give them time on the ball, but limiting the space in behind?
      It's easier to figure out how to make your team press if you can get some tangible ideas.. sometimes I'll bring out a notebook or something and right down things I want the team to do.

For great result I had to have all the roles were I can make individual instructions, dribble less shot less, take fewer risks. Roles are swk d, CB, WCB, wb,DM,am,pf 3421 formation. Works great,we are statistically best almost in every area. But of course I would like fancy roles like BPD, regista or dlp, maybe treq, DLF. But seems like all this roles with take more risks just rubbish for this system. One reason this fancy roles don't work it's that it's lower league save. What I mean, will elite trq or ap will still have like 85% pass accuracy?

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  2 месяца назад +1

      Thank you for the support and I love the question! This is a general idea and not necessarily a fixed rule, but the Treq role is harder to get to work the lower the division. This is because of all that is asked of the role (it needs to be a winger, a striker, a playmaker, etc...)
      However, I love that role and you should definitely try to get it into your tactic if you want to use some of the fancy roles! What I would do is in your next match, use a Treq in that AM role and then just watch him for 15-20 minutes. What does he do when he has the ball? Are there teammates to pass to? Is he getting the ball in open space where he can use his playmaking abilities?
      If you're feeling up to it, you can do the same thing in the 2nd half of the match but use an advanced playmaker. Do you like the AP's movement better when compared to the Treq? The AP is more stationary compared with the Treq, so do you like how he interacts with his teammates?
      You will most likely lose some passing accuracy as your team works through a new playmaker like that, but I think you should at least try to get it to work! Sounds like you have a really good squad and can afford to experiment with your players

In my own personal saves in my free time, I like to watch the full match as well. Though seasons take a looooong time to get through

    Does tactic familiarity affect players too? We have to change formations and tactics depending on our opponent.

      For better or worse, I don't pay a ton of attention to tactical familiarity lol. Like you, gotta change tactics during the season. Over time, I think your players will become more familiar with your different styles anyway.
      On the other hand, I pay attention to the "team cohesion" on your squad dynamics page. I think that has a huge affect (it even tells you so if the team has poor cohesion) so that's why I always like to bring in players with good personalities
