  • This shows how I repaired a 50" Emerson LED Television after it was knocked out by a power surge during a storm. It's not too difficult with some help from EBAY and RUclips.

"With the power cord plugged in and fingers crossed"... exactly! So glad it worked out for you! We have the same TV and it quit working.

New TVs have gotten so cheap. But if you feel like a little adventure, grab a screwdriver and see if you can fix yours. There are a lot of board repair services that I found on EBAY. It was pretty satisfying to fix it. Happy New Year!

I recently acquired this same TV and got it working thanks to your video. I also had the get a universal remote. My problem is it won't show the full screen only a picture with black borders.

Hi. Could that be something as simple as adjusting the aspect ratio in the settings menu? Sometimes there’s a dedicated button with a factory remote for appearance, like zoom in or letterbox but I think you can find the same adjustments through the menu button. Maybe? Have a great weekend. Bob

I have the same exact TV and my problem is almost identical, except for that my red light is on and blinks too like normal. The TV wants to turn on and appears to for a quick moment then turns off but the red light is still on at the bottom so I know it still works. My question is, I thought the main board was the green or do I have that backwards? Because I was going to order the main board from eBay but I want to make sure to get the correct thing. Sorry for the long reply, thank you in advance!

Hi, The brownish board is the power board and the green one with the inputs is the main board. The repair place that I found on EBAY (seller, m-tronicz) asked for both boards to be sent. They fixed the board and mailed it back probably within 2/3 weeks after I mailed it. Type in, "Emerson LF501EM5F board repair service" into an EBAY search and quite a few will pop up. I'm not endorsing any particular seller or guaranteeing any service but that place worked well for me. The repair was $27.95, return shipping $10.00 and about the same for me to send it to them. Plus, it was a good feeling to fix the TV myself. (Even though I didn't actually fix the board.) Good Luck!

It would be great to know which components they replaced on the power supply board.

There are videos on RUclips that show how to test components of the circuit board with a Multi-meter but my soldering skills on such small pieces are pretty weak.

I sent both boards to a guy I found on EBay who fixed it for about $50. I didn't go the route of checking the board myself because I wouldn't be good at soldering such small parts. Type in your TV model and add "board repair service". A lot of people will come up that way.

Do the screws need to be in place for the boards to work? or do they just hold them in place

I’m not sure what you mean. When I was done, I put all the screws back where they had started. I’m not a tv repair guy. I just pulled out what I thought was the bad part, had it repaired and then I put it back in. And I was lucky that it all worked out. Have a nice week. Bob

Mine was quiet. If you want to try and fix yours, I'd suggest pulling the 2 boards and shipping them off to a repair service. They fixed mine for about $40.00. Type your brand and model plus "board repair service" into an EBAY search and shop around. Or just get a new 50 inch TV at Walmart for less than $200.00. Take Care, Bob

Hi. I removed mine from the non-working TV and sent it to be repaired. It only cost about $50.00 from a repair service I found on EBay. You could also search eBay for a used board as a replacement. Thanks and good luck. Bob

I have an Emerson the logo comes up and then turns off then back on the off. It keeps doing that. What could be the problem??

    • @bobsworkshop5181
      @bobsworkshop5181  3 года назад

Hi, I'm only guessing but maybe something is wrong with your power board. There are services on EBAY who repair such boards if you're willing to take it out, ship it to them and then reinstall it after they repair/send it back. Expect to pay $40-55 for the repair plus your cost of shipping. At some point, it may make more sense to buy a new TV since they've gotten so cheap. But if you like to tinker and fix things, then maybe the repair service way is for you. Thanks for watching! Bob

@@bobsworkshop5181 I was going to buy a mainboard but for some reason I felt that was wrong. My mind stopped from doing ion and was telling me it was something to do with the power. Thank you for the advice.

The place I used asked me to send both boards. If they can’t repair what you send them for the eBay price, they contact you and send the boards back and refund your money minus shipping. I’m not good at the fine soldering needed on these boards. But apparently if you have a multi meter, you can diagnose which component of the board is bad.

Sorry, I'm not a repair person. I just tried to fix this street-find for fun. A lot of these internal components do just screw on/off after disconnecting any other connections. Maybe you could look inside at the broken part, look for a part number on it and see what it sells for on EBAY. That's basically what I did. I've destroyed a few things while trying to fix them so don't go by anything I say. Take care and good luck. Bob
