This is the best bucket hat tutorial Ive seen. It explains everything so well and thoroughly. Its impossible to make a mistake and her voice is so calm and soothing ✔️✔️✔️
You have the most relaxing voice and teaching manner. I’ve been mostly quilting but this encourages me to get out of that comfort zone and try something new and different.
Wow, thank you! You can do it! Just follow step by step. You already know how to cut accurately so it should be no problem. You can even adjust your settings to watch at a slower speed. - Just turn down the volume!😄. Please check out some of my other videos for easy projects. Thanks for watching.
Purchased this pattern yesterday, made the hat today, best bucket hat fit ever!!! The pattern pcs are properly sized so that it is not a battle to fit the sides to the top nor the brim to the sides. The sides are deep enough for the hat to come slightly over the top of the ears, the brim has a very nice width without being too wide or too narrow. I'm pretty certain I'll be able to wear this hat without having to hold it onto my head when the breezes blow! Absolutely Perfect!!
Glad you like it! I’m not a fan of seeing backtacking each row or having to hide threads if you don’t. This just saves a lot of time if you are producing them. Thanks for watching.😊
This was so fun - thanks, Angela! I'm a beginner sewer (at age 47!) and found this to be easy to follow but challenging enough to feel accomplished when I finished! Can't wait to make one for everyone I know! 😄
Wow wow wow thank you for this!! I've been making bucket hats to hand out for free at a festival I have coming up soon and while they've been getting better the more I make there were several things that could have been better and this tutorial gives me a way to improve on practically everything! Thank you!!

Your video is amazing. You explain everything so clearly and don't take for granted what the sewist knows or doesn't. Well done and I'm definitely subscribing!
Best tutorial I've seen so far thank you! Excellent instructions and very professional yet easy to follow and understand. First one I've seen even mention the grain line too which is great, concerning that I don't see it mentioned in other videos at all, people are gonna end up with stuff sitting really weird or stretching out etc.
I love your videos and just saw this after I’d already made 3 of these hats! I decided that making two hats and stitching them together at the brim and turning through a gap in the lining side seam to be the easiest and neatest method for me 😊
This method is just as easy as you can skip a few of the steps I've shown. You can sandwich the brim between the two and stitch in one go. I still prefer knowing all layers are held together at this seam. Thanks for watching.
Made today, Angela! My daughter is going to be so happy with it (fabric has got cats on it so it’s a definite ‘yes’ 😊). Lovely pattern and great video to follow along the ‘make’ with. Many thanks for your clear and concise tutorial 🙏🏻.
The Video was a little fast for me but after many start, stop and replay I got it. The sandwiching at the end was a bit tricky, have to admit I sewed it wrong 4 times, but was determined to get it right and the finish product turned out great. Thanks for a simple instruction Video.

Looking forward to getting the pattern; my shop bought sun hat is starting to show its age & I need a new one. Have lots of left over fabric from quilting.
You are very good at sewing and making tutorials! Love this video....it helped me a lot and I have been sewing for 43 years! Your process reminds me of Margaret Islander, commercial sewer giving tips to home sewers!
Thanks so much. I have never heard of Margaret Islander but I have also worked as a commercial sewer so speed and finish are what’s important to me . Happy Sewing!
This is the 2nd video of yours I've watched. As I said before you do an excellent job of explaining what to do. In addition, I appreciate your saying interfacing was needed (to give the hat some shape). Other videos haven't done this. I also like the parallel rows of stitching around the brim; they are not only decorative but I think they also add to the sturdiness and shape of the brim.
Thank you so much Angela, I really really enjoyed watching you create this amazing and beautiful hair. I’m going to try this out, as my husband has used my other bucket hat, for work 😡😡😡. So I might just have a try at this myself. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags ❤❤❤
So nice of you. I like this method as it keeps the brim sandwiched in place and no obvious opening anywhere. Please have a look at my new sunhat tutorial. Cheers!
Thank you so much for your talent and creativity! I eagerly await each and every one of your videos. I had no idea that I already own the North American version of your sewing machine (my newest). I love it....🤗
Thank you so much! I’ve spent my life sewing on industrial machines but thought using domestic machines is more relatable for DIY. Thanks for watching. More to come 😊🙏
@@NotchesSewing Did you know that our machine can sew through almost 20 layers of cotton duck/lightweight denim? And 4 layers of leather? In the U.S the ST150HDH is known as a heavy duty machine but I find it to be beautiful for ctton flannel and 100% cotton!
Love this so much thank you! I just started sewing this past summer and making this hat felt like a big accomplishment for me! ❤. Is there a way to transpose this to other sizes or child sizes? Thank you!

Love this vid you make it easy. How can i make the hat a bit smaller as I have a smaller head than the size in the pattern? 53cm. Thank you for a great tutorial 💖🦋🌻
Thank you. You will need to adjust the pattern by reducing the sides to fit your head and then reducing the top oval to fit into sides. Take the same amount off the brim seams as you do the sides. I will have a new video out soon with slightly different style that you can adjust the size a bit with ties. Cheers
@@NotchesSewing Thank you for your quick reply. I'll give it a go as I have had to try make my own due to shop bought ones always too big. Thank you I'll watch that new video too as it sounds great. 🌻🦋🧚♀️🙏
cut the 2 sides and top out of scrap fabric.(just 3 pieces for fitting sample ) pin sides to your head so it’s comfy. Measure what needs to be shaved of each piece keeping ⅜” seams. You will need to shave off very little from the top piece to fit. Once the sample fits, then that’s your new pattern
If you just need about ½” bigger in total, sew with ¼” seam allowance instead of ⅜” as I show in video. If you need bigger than that, then you will need to add to the sides of each piece.
Hi Angela. I bought this pattern and love it! I have a question. If I want to make it a little bit smaller (maybe 1/2”), I know I can increase my seam allowances a bit, but how would I adjust the size of the top piece? Thanks!
Thanks Lisa. You’ll need the make the circumferance smaller for both top pieces. I would cut out one piece out of scrap fabric, cut away ⅛” all around and check if that fits. If still too big, shave a bit more until it fits and then use that scrap piece to draw out your new pattern piece. This might be a bit easier than trying to give you an equation. Cheers!
I'm having issues where when I am trying to close up the brim with the top of the hat, that there is too much excess fabric. Any ideas on how to deal with this?
Which part is too big? Unpick to separate the parts and take in at the seams so it will fit. You may have cut too big or not sewn the same seam allowances. Also parts of the hat are on the bias so the fabric can stretch a bit. Iron the fabric again before stitching together again. Always match the notches and clip in place so it helps to keep everything in place while stitching. Cheers!
Yes depending on the fabric you use, your hat may look very soft and floppy. If you have some scraps you can use to make a sample, then you can decide if you want it. There are hats made without interfacing for the top and sides. The interfacing gives the hat shape and body.
i have never seen anyone sew with the needle to the left before, mine is always to the right, but i am gonna give your way a try because i think the measurements will be better, either that or i have just been wrong all these yrs (50) lol
Up until last year, I only ever used industrial machines. The default on this Brother machine is left when machine is turned on. You can sew with you needle in any position to get right seam allowance. Just move over to get the correct distance if you are using the side of foot as the guide. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
