Are you afraid of making buttonholes or don't like the look of buttonholes made with the attachment? Let me know where you are watching from and if you'll try this method.
This is absolutely brilliant. So much more tailored than the usual buttonholes. I’m in my 70s and I’ve never seen this method! I think I’ve watched every single video you’ve made! Thank you so much-from an Aussie living in the States.
Thank you so much from a Canadian living Down Under🥰
I will be 75 on November 5th. We won't discuss that day other than I have been sewing since I was 9 years and I have never seen buttonholes made this way. They make sense and I think they would be somewhat stronger. I don't care for the way buttonholes looking raggy after they are cut. This looks so much more finished and neater. This lady has so many great ideas. She is awesome.
That’s so kind of you to say🥰. Thank you. One thing you can add is a tiny line of clear fabric glue to the back of those cut buttonholes to keep it from fraying especially on very lightweight fabric. Thanks for watching!
Ditto! Also in my 70’s and sewing since I was very young. This method is incredible and I can’t wait to try it. A big thank you, Angela, from an American living on the East Coast of the USA 🇺🇸
@@NotchesSewing Good idea. I use it all the time on hand locking stitches to keep them from raveling out.
Love it
I was just about to replace my sewing machine because it doesn't make buttonholes properly. I'm so glad I found this video. I am definitely going to make buttonholes this way now.
Great! You can still make buttonholes with just your zig zag function. 2 narrow rows of close zig zag stitches on each side and wide zig zag in place at top and bottom. Thanks for watching😊
I have veered away from making button holes... I'll give this method a try!
Great! let me know what you think😊
This is so great for fussy fabrics!!
It's hard to put buttonholes in fleece. I sure wish I had known this 2 days ago. That's a great fabric for everything but buttonholes.
Another brilliant video! Thank you 💕
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow super. You are great thank you so much
So nice of you😊
I have no fear of buttonholes or using my buttonhole foot, but this method is fantastic and looks so polished- I am definitely going to try this on the blouse I am currently sewing. Thank you!
Great! Let me know how you go😊
Great idea!! Thanks!
You are so welcome! Hope you try it.😊
I really like this method of making buttonholes. It's a great alternative to the regular method. I really like the clean look on your last project. Very clever method! Kudos!❤
Glad you like it!
Ok, I have to say, button holes are a lot easier but this technique is absolutely impressive and so professional looking! And bonus, the presentation could not be clearer and easier to follow. Thank you for this beautiful demonstration!
Thank you so much😊
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!🎉
You’re so welcome😊
I've made great button holes with the old button hole foot, BUT this method makes such neat and clean button holes. I'm so excited! I can't wait to try this BEAUTIFUL method. I think I'm in love!!!🤩🥰🤩💯🎰
Wonderful!
In all my 50+ years of sewing i never learned these alternative buttonhole methods. Thank you! Would sewing the traditional bar stitch over these types of holes be OK for reinforcing thicker fabrics like for coats? Or would it not look right or pucker the edges especially for lighter fabrics? Are these stronger? Super methods and look so nice! Already subscribed and notified...never miss your wonderful vids! 🤗
Thank you. I wouldn’t use this method for coats as the buttonholes should be horizontal. Would use bound buttonholes for thick coats. No need to tack fine fabric if well interfaced and double backtracked
Oh gosh! I’ve feared my buttonhole attachment ever since I purchased an upgraded sewing machine. I would look at it and think, “What am I supposed to do with this thing?!” Now I’ve watched your video and I have to say your buttonhole technique is simple and truly nicer looking! Thank you.
Thank you! But don’t be afraid of your buttonhole attachment. Take out ½ hr from your day and just play around with it on some scrap. Once you “get it”, buttonholes will be a breeze……Try different widths and lengths to see how they look on different fabrics.
❤❤❤❤❤ You always have amazing ideas. I use the buttonhole presser foot easily, but it’s still nice to have alternatives for a cleaner look. Thanks for all the ideas you have posted. Each one is a gem!😊
Thank you so much🥰
You are so cool! Another fabulous video❤
Aw Thank you so much!!🥰
This creates such a tidy look; love it! Thanks for sharing these ideas.
Thanks so much! 😊
As a beginner I really need videos like this. Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful! Hope you love your sewing journey😊
Dear, believe me it took away almost all the fears😅. It's really amazing how easy you made it even for beginners. Bravo!
Just try on some scrap fabrics. Don't be afraid to try.😊
@NotchesSewing Yes, exactly what I 'll do. Thanks
Absolutely genius!❤❤❤.Thank you.
Thanks for watching😊
The last method is great for pillow case closures. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Very nice. So Great and useful ideas that I did not know even though I am a fashion designer. Thank you. ❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤
We all learn something new everyday! Thanks for watching😊
Excellent, well explained, very good tutorial. Thank you very much
You’re very welcome. 😊
Very classy and clean looking the in seam button hole demo. Cannot wait to try.
Glad you like it!
I love this method! This way more neater than what was trying to do for dresses that I make that cannot have any zippers, snaps, buttons. I tried to make button holes to thread shoes laces through as a closure, and also as a way of making the straps extend as the child grows. Thank you 😊
Great idea for the extensions😊
Thanks Angela for your tutorials. They're very informative. I'm always learning something new.
I'm so glad!
I'm making a button shirt for my husband and was dreading the button holes, but this is amazing! So much easier than sewing regular button holes.
Glad you like it!😊
thank you, I really appreciated this.
Glad it was helpful!
Wow! I have been pushing my self to learn new things. This is something I’m going to try. Thanks for sharing!
You can do it! Thanks for watching😊
You're the best. I needed this video. I'm convinced now that I can make buttonholes.
You can do it!
I saw one of those “quicky” versions of this (maybe 20 seconds worth) a couple months ago, no details but interesting result. THANK YOU for this tutorial!!! What a great way to do those dreaded buttonholes and incredibly polished results!!! I’m 72 and blouses were always frustrating since I’m a perfectionist lol. Now I can dive in and go for it! 😊
Vry nice👍👍
thank you😊
WOW! I’ve been sewing for over 55 years and these buttonholes are a revelation!!!! Your videos are so great, your instructions are clear, there’s not a lot of extra chatting, just getting down to business and your voice is so soothing!💕❤️
Thanks so much😊
That is so clever
Video for shower curtain button holes... quilted with very light batting. Your videos are done so well. Calming and educational and easy to follow.
Thank you . New subscriber ❤❤
Thank you for the kind words and welcome!😊
What a brilliant idea. Thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome!😊
This is wonderful. I have been sewing for 65 years and have never seen this. It's amazing. I think this is great because the buttonholes look very sophisticated. They look much neater than a cut buttonhole. Tad more work but so worth it on the finished item. Thank you so much for sharing. This I will definitely use soon. I need blouses and I caught this at just the right time. Again, thank you.
So glad you like it. Let me know how you go with your blouses.😊
This is amazing, thank you so much.
Thanks for watching😊
Two videos in, and I’m hooked. New subscriber 🎉
Yay! Thank you!🙏
Angelia!! Wow that is amazing!! I’ve never thought of that. So very cool thank you for sharing that!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks Kathy😊
WOW. What a game changer. I love it.
Thank you!
❤❤ I can make all kind of buttonholes. By the time I get to the buttonholes I am dreading the process. This is a great alternative.
Hope you give it a try. Let me know what you think😊
Thanks very much those methods will help me a lot❤
Glad to hear that
Although I’ve made a zillion button holes, using a button hole attachment ( like you showed in the beginning) It often falls short when I need to made a buttonhole in fabric that is thicker than a light/mid weight one. The bulk catches and messes up the buttonhole attachment. The method of making them in a seam is brilliant!
thank you. 😊
Excellent as usual. However, I'd really love to see a tutorial using the 'dreaded' buttonholes foot! 😂😅
I’ll put that on my long list of requests😊
This is fantastic! I’ve watched several of your videos and find them all well done and very informative. Your directions are very clear and straightforward making them easy to follow.
Thank you so much. I appreciate that😊
Brilliant!
You are brilliant!!! Thankyou for sharing your talent ❤
Thank you! Cheers!🙂
wow, that is beautiful and results in such a lovely finish. Thank you!

Nice!!
Thank you! Cheers!
no fear of the buttonhole foot but i will file this in my mind for next time i made a formal shirt. it looks very elegant!! thank you!
You’re welcome 😊
thanks for the great tips
Thanks for watching😊
I use to make button holes with just a satin stitch before button hole machines.
It looks like a nice way to make neat buttonholes. It's kind of confusing to me though. I would have to watch several times to do it without getting confused. I will look you up when I need to make some buttonholes.
you are basically just leaving small openings in a seam. Reinforce the fabric with interfacing. You can also adjust your settings to a slower playback speed. Have fun!
@@NotchesSewing - Thank you very much. I've always avoided buttonholes because I always made a mess of them. I definitely will try this next time.
Of course, I was curious how to avoid making button holes..
hope you try it😊
عالی عالی❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
thanks for watching🥰
Hi, I have never come across this. Everything is very clear but does this mean I need to install the buttons before sewing the dress parts together?
You will need to adjust your pattern so that you have seams for the buttonholes.
I have never liked the look of button holes. they're so messy, and cheap looking. THIS way is much cleaner and straight forward. Thanks. I'll be using this, instead of avoiding that dreaded, UGLY stitched hole.
Let me know how you go😊
Hi would this method work on a man's short? I make lots of shirts for my dad but I hate doing buttonholes and have ruined many a shirt at the last gasp by the machine chewing up the buttonholes, or sewing them on the wrong side, or uneven spacing. You'd think I'd learn and not do the same mistake twice but that's not the case! I may try this method. Thanks, I'm in Dorset/UK
Yes it will work but will give it a slightly different look to it. Have fun!
Thanks! I might have a wee practice on one for myself first.
Great video by the way 😊
Thank you!
❤
Thanks again Wendy!🥰
💝💝💝🌼
Im not sure how to use the button hole bit on the machine I see you didn't use yours it would be helpful if you could show how to use the button hole on the sewing machine
I will put on my list of requests😊. Always follow instructions on your manual
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🙏
Thanks so much for watching😊
At the beginning I was thinking, no thanks I will just learn to master the button hole attachment
But then I remembered you saying that some people don’t like the look of the extra stitching that the button hole attachment makes.
So I think with an article that you’re not going to use the buttons a lot this would be a really nice way to do it
Just think if you are going to be using it for a jacket I prefer the sturdiness of those zigzag stitches
Yes I wouldn’t use this method for jackets as the buttonholes are horizontal. Bound buttonholes would be better too.
@@NotchesSewing oh duh, horizontal 😂😂😂 it’s been awhile since I’ve made clothing
Ok…echoing everyone else here….WOW! There’s always another way if you look hard enough!
Thanks for watching. Hope you give it a try😊
