  • Up to 50% of women will experience some level of prolapse throughout their lifetime, with vaginal birth raising the likelihood. Prolapse occurs when one or more of the pelvic organs descends into the vaginal canal. It is a common occurrence among women, especially those who have experienced a vaginal birth.
There are a few types of prolapse:
    Uterine prolapse
    Bladder prolapse
    Rectal prolapse
    Vaginal vault prolapse
First, it’s important to figure out what kind of prolapse you are experiencing. In this video, Get Mom Strong contributor Jeanice Mitchell, an expert pelvic health physical therapist, uses aids to show you how to identify prolapse.
    In this video, Mitchell offers:
00:25 - 1:03 - A explanation of the anatomy of the female pelvis
1:03 - 2:45 Review of how organs are supported by the pelvic floor
2:45 - 3:35 How to check for prolapse in a laying position
3:35 -3:50 How to check for prolapse in a standing position
3:50 - 5:00 - Tips monitoring prolapse like journaling, exercise and medical care
There are treatments for pelvic organ prolapse that don’t require surgery. Proper body mechanics, pelvic floor muscle coordination, exercises and muscle releases can help treat your prolapse and improve symptoms significantly. Ashley, founder of Get Mom Strong guides you through all of this and more in the Strong Like a Mother (SLAM) app.
