I have had three Corvettes during my life and the last one I flew to this factory in Bowling Green, KY (via Nashville, TN airport) and after a tour of the engineering, museum and factory drove it home. What a thrill.

Went through the Corvette plant 25 years ago when the Museum opened. Very cool to see and a totally different car today. Looks like the same thing today with colors, you'll have a run of 10-15 come through that are red, then 10-15 that are black...etc,etc.
Wow seems to be an understatement! Love my Corvette, made in America. It's just awesome to seeing these workers doing their thing! The final inspections and fit / finish is awesome.
I spent three years on the assembly line at Tarrytown N.Y. 1957. 1960 Part of that time was on the Chassis line talk about a. Dark , dinghy , cold in the winter ,sweltering in the Summer place to work sparks flying , smokey deafening noise. This plant looks as clean and sterile as a Hospital Nice working conditions and good pay.
"this plant looks as clean and sterile as a hospital" get yourself down to Specsavers mate because you need your eyes testing. Crowded. very little to no PPE, shit left in walk ways etc
We have been there a few times. Last was when we went to pickup the wife's '03 Anniversary coupe across the street at the Museum. Watching them being built never gets old. Especially like the special tour you get with the Museum delivery. The wife even got to do the "First Start", she enjoyed that. Keep up the good work that you all do. Maybe we will see ya soon, C8 coming.
She must have really enjoyed that!. I've taken the assembly tour several times (The Buick GS Nationals is in BG) and got selected to do the initial start and drive off the line. That year they were doing the initial Blue Devil car; It was in the troubleshoot area off to the right after the start-up. I plan on taking the tour again, when they resume the tours...
I built some of the tools used in this video and sold all of the lightweight cranes used. I've been in most of the US auto plants over the last 20 years, and it's pretty cool to see all of the cars and trucks be built.
It's not a car assembly plant but it was once a GM facility. Have you been in Nexteer Automotive (which was Delphi before and before that Steering Gear). It's in Saginaw, Michigan
I just got a new C7. Only 500 miles on it. I researched the hell out of it's competitors ( most of them foreign) and I went with the new Vette because its a raw V8 rear drive sports car with a great manual gearbox and it looks incredible. I'm not sure watching this video makes me feel better or worse about the reliability I am hoping for with this car. It's not so much the uniforms they are not wearing but watching a 22 year old kid in jeans and a T-shirt screwing together my 70k sports car is an image I'm going to have to forget. This is what has kept American car quality in the low ranks for decades. And I'm from Detroit saying this.
My home town. I live about 10 miles, from this plant. The city has Corvette reunions, a couple of times each year. Bowling Green gets filled with Corvettes. They are everywhere, during these events.
There is no skill involved! This is an unskilled trade. That is why it pisses me off to think how much these factory workers are making. It is an insult to skilled trades. Every single thing is engineered and set up ahead of time. The engineering and organization of the assembly line is impressive. A worker does one repetitive thing all day. It would drive me insane.
I work at a Chevy Dealership As a Tech. Ive driven quite a bit of these newer vehicles. They are truly amazing, very well crafted, the owners dont seem to use them though, the most ive seen is 30k miles on a c7 stingray.

It’s so awesome GM let’s their employees wear comfortable clothes while working... it makes such a difference. All the fools saying they need uniforms must be hated at their jobs if in a leadership position. Employees want to be comfortable. They will also work better that way.
why are people bitching about not having uniforms? uniforms suck, and the general public dont even see these people working, aside from this video, so why tf would they need a uniform?? I work for a Company Called Alliant Techsystems (ATK) and we produce the vast majority of police, military, and sporting ammunition and we dont have to wear uniforms. It's the best part about the job. you just go to work, no worrying if your uniform is cleaned, or ironed, or any of that BS, and the workers are generally happier about it. I sure as hell am. I couldn't imagine going back to a job that required a uniform now.
In a car plant, a uniform has advantages. Jeans with rivets, large metal belt buckles and the like, can scratch paint and interior trim pieces. Most car companies provide uniforms for this reason. I'm kind of shocked they are not used here.
Yup. it removes the elements of danger to the employee as well (loose clothing equals danger, and depending on what they wear, it might get them hurt if metal pieces pinch or jab). I'm surprised you don't demand your company to supply uniforms. I hate to get my clothes worn/dirty while at work. Company should pay to clean them as well. Then you wouldn't have to worry about cleaning or ironing your clothes and you would have less stress at work :)
I work with highly explosive mix that has green dye in it and i dont worry about my clothes. We have a dress code- no baggy clothes, must be at least 60% cotton to reduce static, and we have to wear the supplied denim aprons. I love being able to wear my own clothes to work. Uniforms suck. And there has never been an incident due to someones clothing...
***** lol, what are you even doing with that comment? The only reason my name is BMW Guy is because I had to link with google + and put in a "Real" name. I've owned 1 bmw, the E30 in my profile pic. I have never stated that I was a BMW know-it-all. I just like the car. But go ahead and keep trying to rustle my jimmies...
I think working in a place like this is fun but really really hard work. They should be proud of working in an assembly line for the real American Super car the Corvette!!!!!!
Back when I was a automotive supplier in 1979, the original Corvette plant ( 8 JPH) was part of the mammoth GMAD St. Louis, MO assembly complex. The Corvette plant was the smallest building next to the large assembly plant building Pickups (50 JPH) and Chevy Caprices (70 JPH) (AKA: B car). This was GM's biggest production plant in the North America at that time. GM moved Corvette production to an all new assembly plant Bowling Green, KY only because the St. Louis city government refused to help and provide a Tax break to GM for a new plant in St Louis. so GM closed the old plant down and left town. Now look at that part of the city in St, Louis, it's a big open eye sore for the city. BTW, when the new plant opened, all Corvette employees were offered a chance to transfer to Bowling Green, all expenses paid by GM. That was a best decision GM made.
I work for a Japanese auto manufacturer and I'm so jealous of these guys being able to wear t-shirts & shorts. It's mid 90's outside & we gotta have long pants on & our long sleeves all the way down and in some areas Kevlar sleeves on top of that oh and now stage 4 cut resistance gloves which are really hot 😪
If I hadn't seen that this is a new Corvette (2013 model year), I would have thought this was the mid 90s seeing the line workers' dress and hair styles. I am shocked that they are allowed to dress like this. Total trash!
Hydroboy35th, I worked for a third party offshore crane service company. They furnished us with very good quality jeans and shirts but we did not wear them as they were treated with a 'fire-retardent process, they simply were hot as all get out cause the material could not 'breathe'....
Esse carro é top Não é a toa que é o carro madrinha da fórmula Indy nas 500 milhas de Indianápolis Na minha modesta opinião é o melhor carro da montadora e eu como sou fã da GM para mim é o melhor do mundo.
Seeing that guy at the end of the line gapping the hood fitment reminded me of seeing a, then, new 1975 Ford LTD with a trunk lid that didn't line up and was kittywompus from side to side. Couldn't believe it. Nice to see now the attention taken to a detail such as hood fitment.
So strange how negative comments have become the norm, people can't find any real issues to complain about so they resort to comments about lack of uniforms or the slow speed of the line.. Try doing that slow speed for 12 hours straight as opposed to watching a 8 minute video.
Electric Caddi on 22's And they want to bash on the one company that really keeps the hot Rod spirit alive with their engines. They still build an engine that the average man can understand and hot rod or swap. And computers that can be custom program very easily I’m pretty sure they do that stuff for a reason. If they ever start building 32 valve double overhead cam over complicated junk like the ticking exploding coyote 5.0s they will loose my respect. Keep up the good work guys.
Its funny when they make 40,000 corvettes a year but over at Dodge in the Vipers 25 years the total run was 34,000 for 25 years!!! The Corvette is the fastest produced sports car in the world. No other manufacturers build half as many of their hi performance types than GM does with the Vette.
I worked on the assembly line in different capacities for 35 years to break up the monotony of doing the same thing over and over. Having a dress code is rediculous it doesn't help to build a better car. It helps to think positive and not be so negative like some of the people making comments on here.
@118183191667495357028 Obviously by your remark I would say its you who doesn't think. Engineering has made as many problems as they correct. I didn't say what I did on the assembly line so don't assume my intelligence Mr. engineer. In a lot of cases I have seen the assembler on the floor pointing out a problem to an engineer and then they correct it and get the glory.
I just watched a video of the Fort Wayne GM truck plant and read almost nothing but negative comments. They are junk trucks, built by robots and so on. Now I watch the Corvette plant that doesn't appear much different in processing and the comments are almost all positive. Oh the proud UAW craftsman. The production is poetry in motion. The Corvette an amazing machine. People sure have interesting perceptions of things.
I had a tour of the assembly plant in Kentucky. The first thing I noticed was a man about 30 years old, high top sneakers, flower print pants that he purchased on the boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ., a sleeveless untucked t-shirt and a butt hanging out of his mouth. We asked the guide, “how is this possible?” He replied “The UAW. Negotiated it” So there you have it! And more robots to do the work that was once done by people. If you ever watched “A Bronx Tale” Sonny says “Nobody Cares”! And that my friends is why we will become a third world country. And BTW I had 5 Corvettes, 1989, 1995, 1995 ZR-1, 1996 Grand Sport, and a 2000 with A Caravaggio interior and a car on Vette Magazine cover. The new Stingray is the best looking car on the road today. I hope GM can keep it all together. Reports show the auto industry is heading for the crapper!
I've only had very good results with my GM autos .. unlike the German brands I used to own. I'll never, ever, ever .. buy another foreign car .. and no one paid me to say this. Cheers ... hava grt day ~b
Just to prove that everything is anecdotal, I've never had any major issues with my German cars (currently on my third) but my North American cars were garbage and I'll never, ever, ever buy a domestic car.:)

BMW Guy
The last time I was at the BMW plant in Spartenburg, they were wearing uniforms.. But you'd know that, being a BMW guy and all.
It is hard and it's hard on your hands, feet, knees and legs too!
Aguynamed Ricky yes indeed
The Dodge Viper ACR was the only true American super car !!
Corvettes are literally a dime a dozen !!
Drive the Arc in the curve then see who's the King
@@bryanh9695 Drive the arc into a curve ?? What does that even mean ???
The Chevrolet is a great production conglatulation for the vídeo!
Anybody have a big lunchbox and building a 'Vette one piece at a time" ala Johnny Cash? Something to aspire to.....
I work for a Japanese auto manufacturer and I'm so jealous of these guys being able to wear t-shirts & shorts. It's mid 90's outside & we gotta have long pants on & our long sleeves all the way down and in some areas Kevlar sleeves on top of that oh and now stage 4 cut resistance gloves which are really hot 😪
who do you work for? I'm Intrigued
change jobs....choice is yours...big country. MAGA
If I hadn't seen that this is a new Corvette (2013 model year), I would have thought this was the mid 90s seeing the line workers' dress and hair styles. I am shocked that they are allowed to dress like this. Total trash!
@@SteveWhiteEEAMPS Only used his first and middle name. Anyone want to guess the last?
Hydroboy35th, I worked for a third party offshore crane service company. They furnished us with very good quality jeans and shirts but we did not wear them as they were treated with a 'fire-retardent process, they simply were hot as all get out cause the material could not 'breathe'....
Esse carro é top
Não é a toa que é o carro madrinha da fórmula Indy nas 500 milhas de Indianápolis
Na minha modesta opinião é o melhor carro da montadora e eu como sou fã da GM para mim é o melhor do mundo.
Amazing workers.....😊👍
Seeing that guy at the end of the line gapping the hood fitment reminded me of seeing a, then, new 1975 Ford LTD with a trunk lid that didn't line up and was kittywompus from side to side. Couldn't believe it. Nice to see now the attention taken to a detail such as hood fitment.
Three reasons the Detroit Three AND M-B & BMW HAD TO improve quality: 1) Toyota, 2) NISSAN, 3) Honde aka: 'Free Trade.'
@@theaveragejoestinkeringand4407 yup the heart beat of china!
Its funny when they make 40,000 corvettes a year but over at Dodge in the Vipers 25 years the total run was 34,000 for 25 years!!! The Corvette is the fastest produced sports car in the world. No other manufacturers build half as many of their hi performance types than GM does with the Vette.

The internet is full of losers that don't work and Bitch about everyone else.
I love my 1964 Corvette Coupe.
Good to see a lot of people involved.
I worked on the assembly line in different capacities for 35 years to break up the monotony of doing the same thing over and over. Having a dress code is rediculous it doesn't help to build a better car. It helps to think positive and not be so negative like some of the people making comments on here.
thats why you work on assembly not in engineering apartment. just cont to screw things on to body, and dont think.
Ron K thank u for ur hard work. God bless u
"ridiculas"? "inteligent"?
...... keep gettin that union representation, buddy.
apparently Spelling was not a needed talent for inserting bolts into holes
I wish i could work here or the camaro factory . Love chevy
Set your sights higher my man. Manufacturing is dying. All these factories are on borrowed time.
Looks like a lot of professionalism and pride in their work to me. Great video.
The best all around sports car in the world. BRAVO GM FOLKS!
Biggest fan of chevy love the chevy corvette stringary assembly factory
I have stayed down that way before to see my kids but I never know about y'all so cool 😎 Chevy game 👏👏👏
