    A few weeks ago, I found these Camallanus Worms in my 29 gallon aquarium.... Maybe better known as Death Worms..... These are a red parasites that can be seen sticking out of your fish’s anus. By watching this video, you will hear about my experience with Camallanus Worms and what I did to eradicate them from my fish tank.

    Should I remove the gravel? I've separated my fish into groups. The two that have the worms visibly sticking out are in one container(no gravel), the one not showing any signs in the original tank with gravel(he's been in the tank for just as long as the visibly sick ones so I assume he already has it), and 2 females are in another container(no gravel). I've been doing water changes daily since I noticed the sick fish. That's when I separated them. I'm not sure if all of them are sick or not but I'll treat them all just in case. For the original tank with the one fish inside of it should I take all of the gravel out so I can vacuum the worms as they drop? And does fenbendazole only paralyze the worms? So they would all need to be vacuumed up?

    I’m still so unclear as to how much of the medication to use. I currently have 3 bettas that have these worms and I’ve been treating them with this medication for two weeks! They have the ends eat out of them like your fish does but I still see some worms too! They still eat but they are loosing interest in life, I can tell. I’m going to lose them soon if I don’t get this done!
    I also am using aquarium salt, I am getting epsom tomorrow.
    Anyway, I have them in a 3 gal treating tank, heater and sponge filter. How much of this medicine do I use? I have been using 50 mg and really felt that was a lot! I’ve treated them by soaking the food and dosing the water and doing water changes every few days.

  • @dancaraya
    @dancaraya 3 года назад +1

    For treating the water too - how much you would put in a 55 gallon tank? One packet in the tank water? Also, would you add it to flake food, or frozen food like brine shrimp or blood worms?

    • @LongIslandFishGuy
      @LongIslandFishGuy  3 года назад +1

      1-2 packet directly in the aquarium with the correct food dose should be fine. Feeding is ok, but don’t overfeed. I would suggest flakes or pellets, not blood worms

      Jesus Sandoval Levamisole doesn’t kill the parasite, so you would either need to gravel vac extremely well or use another medication with the levamisole. The more medication you use, the more stress that will be added to the fish.

    Levamisole or levamisole HCL can treat food or water (2 ppm), febendazole treats food only because it has low water solubility. Epson salt acts like a laxative, which can help pass dead or paralyzed worms - just make sure your fish are not epson salt sensative. Correct that levamisole is light sensative and fish must be retreated to target larvae that have hatched that missed the initial treatment.

    What's up boss, I have a 65g aquarium and I'm most certain this is exactly what one of my angelfish is suffering from. Should I quarantine him??? I'm not sure if any other fish have this but at first I thought it was dropsy, but shes active and eating so it cant be it, shes not pregnant, and I defently only feed once maybe twice a day so I have no idea how these worms got in her. The funny thing is that my smaller angel pooped and it looked like the film that gets stuck on the filter along with lil tiny tiny red strings like 3 separated from each other attached to the film. I dont want my fish to die. I have a 10g quarantine ready to put her in it

    • @LongIslandFishGuy
      @LongIslandFishGuy  5 лет назад +1

      Michael Moreira I would NOT remove the fish. You would only contaminate another tank. I’d treat the tank with the angel fish right away and hope for the best. The angel fish is most likely going to pass, so the goal is to ensure that the parasite hasn’t taken up too much space in your other fish. Typically by the time you see the worms, it’s already too late.

      Michelle Davey I doubt it’s “stuck”. The fish probably didn’t take all the meds or the worms are still alive. Once the camallanus die, the let go of the fish’s intestinal tract.

    I started treatment today with JBL Nedol, moved my shrimp and snails to another set up, stripped down the first tank I noticed that was infected and placed all of my fish into quarantine. Now the thing is, would I be able to treat my snails with something similar to the JBL Nedol as well because I read up in a forum that they can serve as hosts as well, apart from fish. I was only aware that fish served as hosts but by seperating the fish they'd die in plus minus 2 weeks.. or is it just fish that are the hosts? I have 4 tanks ranging from 40-380liters and I'm planning on treating and stripping all of them but I have assassin and trumpet snails which I'd really like to keep but now I've found very conflicting opinions on the internet. Would you be able to help me, please 😢 my animals are my life, without them I don't think I'd even be here today, euthanizing is not an option for me as the infected fish only came into my care about 3 weeks ago, I had to euthanize them sadly because more than one worm was already portruding from their anus, but the fish that's been with me since forever still has a massive fighting chance. Thank you!

    • @LongIslandFishGuy
      @LongIslandFishGuy  5 лет назад

      Kayla Davids Hi Kayla, sorry to hear you’re going through this 😢 unfortunately the survival rate for this is very low. Moving fish, snails, or shrimp between infected and non infected tanks is a dangerous move. I would recommend treating any tanks that have come in contact with the infected fish. Use different siphons and buckets as well!

      @@LongIslandFishGuy thank you so so SO much for responding! I've stripped down one already, I'll be dipping my plants in diluted bleach as well as the tank and I'm going to get new equipment to start the nitrogen cycle again, the other tanks I will be treating all of them. This morning I spotted some MTS in my medicated tank, alive and well - I transported some of my horwort to keep possible ammonia levels down and to provide my betta with a top resting place.. now I'm wondering if at very low dosages I might be able to treat my shrimp and snails as well, I will be watching the MTS for about a week to check if they're fine and then I'll consider taking a chance. Thank you for the info, very informative channel as well 👍

I'm freaking out. The fish have also been pooping stringy white almost see-through poop sometimes but not constantly.
