    I have been using levamisole for years to also paralyze those pesky substrate worms, such as detritus worms and planarian worms. All of the paralyzed are happily eaten by the guppies. I dose levamisole every week for a month to call it victory in a planted tank. Thank you Girl Talks Fish

She gets kind of bend when she is swimming near the water surface but her appetite is normal and I have seen the stringy white poop. Now time to buy the medicines.

    Regardless of any symptoms of this parasite, do you recommend that we treat Levamisole during the quarantine period [of the fish]?

    • @GirlTalksFish
      @GirlTalksFish  4 года назад +7

      Good question! I personally am going to stick with the quarantine medication trio. However, if any fish dies even after treatment with the med trio, then my next step is to add some more minerals and definitely consider dosing levamisole next. I had some dwarf chain loaches that looked a little skinny in quarrantine and I treated them with levamisole. Turns out they just weren't fed enough at the wholesalers or fish store. With a little extra food during feedings, their bodies are now nicely rounded and much healthier looking. :)

    Hey I just watched your video as my Plattys are going through this same thing for the hundredth time here in the UK we have flubendazole but I was just wondering on what you said about the salt bringing them back to normal after using meds. Did you use such a low amount of salt that it didn't affect your plants? Because I know you said you didn't want to use salt because you had plants and I've used salt in the past and it saw all of my plants off near enough

It looks like their handwriting on the glass - Absolutely love that place ❤️ I wish I would’ve caught this video about 2 months ago when I lost half my guppies in my new mutt guppy breeding tank before realizing they likely had parasites. I was about to call Greg Sage for some levamisole but luckily my second round of General Cure did the trick! As a doc, I’m always curious about some of these meds - metronidazole is an antibiotic for bacteria in the human world, but always referred to as an anti parasitic in fish world. Fascinating. Another great video! Thanks so much!

    Hey, I know it's unrelated to the topic of the video but I noticed you have red algae and green spot algae! I fought the same algae for a couple of years in my tank. That red stuff especially would grow on everything and it looked exactly like what's in the video.
    I just recently managed to mostly get rid of that red algae after I started injecting CO2 to the tank about 2 months ago. I never realized this until just before I setup CO2 on the tank but after a few hours of running the lights on my tank on my old setup with Seachem Excel and no CO2 injection, the pH would rise to over 8.0. This meant my CO2 was near 0ppm, even with the heavy surface agitation I had. Overnight the pH would drop to around 7.4-7.6, indicating CO2 was around 5ppm. If you're able to measure your tanks pH and kH, or you know your local water supply's kH, you could do the same tests on your tank to see what the CO2 levels are like (should come up if you search "pH kH CO2 chart" on Google). For me, within about 2 weeks of adding CO2, the red algae actually stopped reproducing! With CO2 now around 25ppm, my pH is 6.7 and I think the lower pH stops the red algae from reproducing. I Increased CO2 slowly to 25 ppm over about 4 weeks though, to minimize stress on the fish and they never really seemed bothered by it.
    I have a theory that the red algae is some type of red cyanobacteria since it's sometimes a bit slimy and it peels off in sheets.Though other times it's a bit dry and fuzzy so it could also be a type of BBA...or some nasty combination of the two. I read online that cyano can only reproduce within a certain range of pH values so this perhaps explains why lowering the pH stopped it from reproducing. However it could also be a type of BBA, in which case fixing CO2 levels also usually stops BBA from reproducing.
    I had to manually remove the red algae but after that, it was almost entirely gone! There's a few dying spots near my filter outtake that I couldn't clean properly because it's latched on there really strong but other that that, it hasn't grown anywhere else in the tank!
    Similar situation with the green spot algae, it stopped growing as well, I just had to manually remove as much as I could.
    I run medium-high lighting about 7 hrs a day. Also, I started dosing NilocG Thrive all-in-one with a 50% water change weekly (used to do 30% weekly) and I'm also using Seachem Advance for this week and next week to help my plants develop roots and bounce back after being suffocated by algae. I also increased the amount of biomedia in my filter because I heard that could help with cyano. The tank is definitely starting bouncing bank now, it's mostly algae free and the new plant growth is looking lush and healthy. The plants were in really bad shape before I fixed the algae problem.

    When i have fish i have like neons and hatchet rasboras and im noticing that one of the neons looks distorted body like a little bent, that fish died and suddenly 3weeks later another neon like that appear and then also died, i did medicate general cure but on the meds many of my fish died during medication after that seems ok but suddenly a month later a rasbora with distorted body i found swimming and noticing that now my rasboras are getting fewer. And also i have pink zebras but those zebras get those distorted bodies like 4months after. i transfer the remaining zebra fish to another tank and medicate them with same med and after that no one died with that symptoms again. I did washed with soap and change substrate from the main tank and change sponges, and after that the remaining fish did do well now

    I’m fighting TB in my fish tank. I already lost 10 fish. Can you make a vid about TB? Thank you !!!!

      @GirlTalksFish  4 года назад +2

      I'm so sorry to hear that! From what I understand, fish TB is a form of mycobacteriosis. Aquarium Co-Op just did a video on mycobacterial infections in neon tetras, but it also applies to other kinds of fish. ruclips.net/video/l7uK_YYljTY/видео.html
      Here is the article he referenced on the disease: fisheries.tamu.edu/files/2013/09/SRAC-Publication-No.-4706-Mycobacterial-Infections-of-Fish.pdf

      Michael, I would suspect the vendor supplying Petco realizes if customers could breed their own, Petco wouldn’t need to keep buying from them. Just speculating, I have no information to support that view.

      Thanks for the information. I lost two wild caught bluefin killifish that had those symptoms. I used a general cure as you did, but it didn’t save them. They were part of a wild caught community tank of fish that are not showing those symptoms. I may contact Greg and follow through with treatments for my remaining fish.

      Michael! My best guess is that the females are boring looking and don't sell as well? Or people are afraid of getting overrun by babies?

    Anyone in UK know any meds to use?
    Ive lost 15 Guppys and 5 Platys in last month or so , no marks on them but ive only lost Livebearers, my Otos and Corys etc are fine and water tests are perfect.
    Im going mad and so stressed, ive tried all sorts of meds but not this one in the video but cant find it in UK so anyone know what to do????

      All of these great meds are not available in Europe sadly. I treat my endlers with methylene blue and feed them regular flakes soaked in water with epsom salt and it works.

      Yes, I added Greg's suggested amount of 1 Tbsp per 5 gallons. Not sure if that will hold true for all plants, but it was weak enough to not affect mine at all. 👍

    Unless you know the history of the fish cos in some cases it might just be old age 🤔

    • @sakaynafilms4904
      @sakaynafilms4904 4 года назад

      It isnt usual for a fish to die from old age because age simply makes them more susceptible to disease that usually ends them. I see what you mean though! I also had this problem and thought it was old age (which was likely the reason they easily got it then died)
