If you get a P261C code, start at the cheapest part. The R1 Cooling system (ENG W/P) relay. It is in the engine compartment driver's side, top left of the box. This part is $17. Normally, the faulty water pump should throw a P251B code.
I bought my new pump from a Toyota dealership. Sure I could save $60 buying the OEM brand pump from rock auto but I want to have zero doubt my part is good and it is built to the latest Toyota specifications. If the pump fails on these cars, good chance your going to blow a head gasket. I got screwed by a remanufactured water pump on my Nissan pickup years ago as you did. The bad pump was exchanged on warrantee but the whole days labor was on me. Never again am I buying a cheap auto parts store water pump or thermostat.
So was the original water pump bad? I see that the replacement was bad. My problem was both the water pump which apparently caused the R1 relay to weaken. I replaced the water pump first and still had an intermittent P261C that caused the car to go into limp mode. When I moved the relay to another Prius, I was able to duplicated the P261C verifying that the relay was bad. Replaced the relay and all is good!
My question is going to coast the car can't not go over 40 like if I do drive it over 40 going up to 60 going see the gauge wising up fast . But when I scan it I do have the code

Can you just switch relay with another one from the box and see if it works?
