I'm a music teacher and I always stress how impactful and important video game music is to my students. I'm also very big on motivic writing in music and leitmotifs, so the Colgera theme literally made me weep with happiness when I first heard it. Music and video games are like my 2 biggest passions so any chance I get to talk about video game music is one I'm taking.
i hate hollywoods reliance on licensed music for movies. i have issues with the mario movie and a big one is the music. most tracks are original which is nice. but any time the movie used a licensed piece of music instead of something from the franchised re-worked, it COMPLETELY ruined the scene for me. thats why zelda music hits so hard. they have motifs that are connected to the world so well and its reworked in a way to fit the narrative. zelda is a literal masterpiece. and then you got sonic. the middle ground. no motifs but still make original songs that are BANGERS and fit the vibe almost 100% consistently.
Great video, music is vital to successful emotional storytelling. I can't agree more with the TOTK example. One recent instance of the force theme being used effectively in Star Wars was ep 5 of Ahsoka when Hera and Jacen are looking out over the ocean. It helps that it's a new arrangement of the theme as well, and not overused in that show otherwise. Personally I think Andor has great emotional music as well, for being all original and having self-contained themes and through lines within its first season
you know i really have forgotten you existed for a while but i still love your videos, im so glad your almost at 1k subs, i hope you make it as a not so old comment said: ''this *GUY* deserves more subs''
Been thinking about you a lot lately! So happy for you and yours and that you’re doing videos you love. Zelda has a lot to do with my childhood but I’m not as knowledgeable on the new stuff. So this was interesting!
Ah. This explains it. Off camera, the mug handle broke. So fitting it's on the one I should have started with. Music theory is just words for sounds and ideas you already know!
