In the “BAND-MAID genre” of music you always get marvelous TWIN VOCALS: harmonies, call and response, and individual lead vocals, depending on the situation.
You'll find that Band-Maid doesn't rely on over- the- top stage productions to deliver killer live shows. Their stage energy and musicianship IS over the top and allows Band-Maid to play 700 seat venues like the one I went to in Charlotte, NC, to the 17,000 seat Yokohama Arena which they'll play in a few weeks to wrap up their 10th anniversary tour.
They are a solid as can be studio band but when they are on stage and live is when they really shine! All smiles live with different solos! They are truly a live band! I highly recommend their live official stuff! Pure musicianship!

Literally the tip of the iceberg for Band-Maid! Miku Kobato, the rhythm guitarist, second singer, and main lyricist, took the story from the anime this was written for.
Thank you for your reaction. My musical journey with the Maids started with the MV Manners and they have transformed the way I think about music. Typical I would go back and listen to the rythm section as it holds so much of their musical compositions. In return I suggest official live No God or Puzzle. The online live with Manners and Black hole is also a good introduction to Band Maid. Have fun! :)
You'll only get the light shows or pyro at their bigger concerts. They have a big concert coming up near the end of November where they probably will have a pretty elaborate production with lights, etc. As for other songs from band-Maid to check out.... I would do "Moratorium (Live)".
Band - Maid are extremely talented and are considered one of the best hard rock bands in the world ! These ladies shine when performing live so i would suggest "Real Existence" Official Live or "Dice/Hate?" from the Lollapalooza 2023 concert ! The drummer's name is Akane and shes the best in my book ! Thanks James Nice Reaction btw Band-Maid always uses real fire in their MV's
They also have MV's with the story being 'acted out' or with visuals that match the lyrics - Warning, Afterlife, Start Over, Endless Story and The Dragon Cries for example - these 5 songs are very different musically which pretty much sums up one of the great attractions of Band Maid, their incredible talaent for variety and versatility.
Welcome to Band-Maid! "...rock, metal, punk crossover.." "...something a little bit different...", yes. The band is known for powerful playing and catchy choruses with a great live personality. For an example of their stage show in a large venue, I suggest "Puzzle" Official Live Video. It's from their Tokyo Garden Theatre show in January and features a song from a few years ago. You can't miss with any of the suggestions the fans are going to make, though. If you're looking for narrative lyrics, you may face disappointment. The lyrics (by founder, rhythm guitarist and secondary vocalist Miku Kobato) tend to be metaphorical, and usually upbeat. "Puzzle" does have a story but you will have to pick it out of the phrases. Best rock band on the planet. They can play ANYTHING and are a genre into themselves. Their live recordings tend to be better than the studio recordings. Even if you don't react to them again keep following them, it's an extremely satisfying experience.
its an ending for an anime called Kengan Asura so that explains the weirdness of the story. They have done other songs for anime but with about 7 albums they are by no means an anime band. Except for " the MV for Unleash!!!!!" which they literally are an anime band. Their live shows are awesome and only one of them that i can remember had pyro. They dont really need it.
I don't think there is such a thing as an anime band. Unless you mean Kessoku Band (the fictional band in Bocchi the Rock). Bands that have songs in anime are just Japanese bands. Take Yoasobi. Two of their 3 most popular songs are anime theme songs but the other was their first hit and came out first. They got the chance to do anime after they were already popular.
Written by the band for the ending theme for the Netflix anime Kengan Ashura second season. So naturally the lyrics will make more sense for fans of the anime. But the lyricist Miku writes in both English and Japanese just to make the lyrics worth reading many times. The costumes based on Maid Cafes that are popular in Japan that Miku worked in before creating the band. Miku (red rose) does most pf the backing vocals. The band have been together for ten years so the costume or 'battle dress' has evolved over the years. Brilliant musicians and writers. Well worth revisiting as they have such a wonderful collection of tracks. Truly unique live as well.
This song was commissioned as an anime theme song, so the lyrics were written specifically to reflect the anime. As for live shows, when they tour in Japan, they have a fairly elaborate stage show: HUGE video screen behind the stage, lasers and lightning, smoke, but no pyro (at least not recently). Overseas, their shows are stripped back: big banner behind them and house lighting.
BAND MAID simply has a huge catalog (approaching 150) of really great songs and has been entertaining us with music and antics for over 10 years. They are jus the best hard rock band currently around, bar none. This song was done for an anime (a great honor in Japan) but clearly stands on its own. Not many bands can pull that off.
Welcome to Band Maid 🎉 This is an exceptionally diverse group of musicians. No way to understand what they’re about with less than 10-12 songs. I call them “Hard Rock Fusion,” because they blend funk, punk, metal and pop; but also have several ballads, slow jams, instrumentals, and more. “Shambles” is one of their hardest hitting. “Rinne” and “From Now On” would be others. The rest of their material is often wildly different. If you liked this? You’re in for a ride. Personally? “Shambles” isn’t even in my top 20 Maid compositions. The best thing is that they excel in the live setting. I mean over the top excel. Recommendations from fans will most often be live performances. Band Maid sometimes have extended intros (“Play”) or extended solos for everyone (“Domination”) I saw them live earlier this year. It was one of the most fun, exciting and entertaining concert experiences I’ve ever had. And my first concert was KISS in 1978.
Very good guess! This song is written for the anime "Kengan Ashura", thus the lyrics reflect the story of the anime.😁 If you are interested in checking out their live performance without post-production, I suggest their live performance of the song "HATE?" at Lollapalooza 2023: ruclips.net/video/OvtKRZ9xt3E/видео.html Have fun!😉
Search "Shambles drums only" for Akane's drums extracted. Then never again diss her ability. Not just the pure skill and composition but the incredibly subtlety.
Don't feel bad for their drummer, Akane Hirose. She is the happiest drummer on the planet in the best hard rock band on the planet! Check out some of their official live videos and you will see her either smiling from ear to ear or making funny faces at the other hand members. She is living the dream!
Akane, the drummer, is called "The Gorilla" by her band mates. When they were in England years ago Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin fame had to go back stage to meet her. He was very, very impressed. Watch Freedom live if you want to see a nice drum solo.
Nice reaction! I really like your style. You pick up on a lot of details. They do have a lot of production on their bigger Japan shows but smaller shows or shows in US they don't have us much production/special effects (I assume for logistical reasons
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, that’s pretty typical when it comes to smaller shows and big tours of the US. We don’t see a lot of big production/special effects heavy shows here in Australia either. Definitely a logistical reason.

@@J-163 Here you go. Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead. Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku had her agency contact her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and there is 2 versions of this, the first is, Kanami literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her, the second is Kanami called Akane and asked her. (Akane has said in 2 different interviews that 1: Kanami called her and asked if she could come over and 2: in a second interview Kanami just came over) Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. The 3 of them then "Auditioned" for the record company and passed the audition. Now we have the "Core" members. The 4 members worked out some songs provided for them by the record company, and a setlist and they had performed 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. They then auditioned several singers. Miku heard Saiki rehearsing in a room across the hall and asked if she could be auditioned, the record company then had Saiki audition. Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. She had been a member of a group with 8 other people as a backup singer and dancer, and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music. Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool/cute Clothes"(I've read it translated either way), and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until the day before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. (Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well) So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance. And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD! ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!! Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which failed to chart, but later after "Thrill" it was reissued and charted to #26 in Japan.
Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning" On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"... The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited) This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album charted at #64, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band. MISA had also just started working with Mochi to Cheese as well). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their RUclips channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill. Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid. If you have any questions , please feeel free to ask. I and many others would be glad to answer them.
Due to being almost completely ignored by the music industry/promoters/music media (aside from Spotify and You Tube) in North America and Europe, Band Maid is not yet wealthy enough to bring the level of lighting/staging/back screens, etc. that they use domestically to their foreign tours. At least for the moment, you'll have to be satisfied with their musical brilliance, compositional acumen, contagious energy and overwhelming charisma in their overseas "lives".
Lead guitarist Kanami is the principal melodicist and arranger, and she's always testing drummer Akane to see how many BPMs she can give her. Beyond that, though, Akane composes the drum parts, pulling forward and backward, as the song requires.
Excellent reaction. Yep, it's an anime opening. I've seen them live and the lead singer has good pitch control. Impressive in a two hour show with one song after the other with this intensity. There has obviously been some pitch correction, especially with the second vocalist (even in their "live" recordings), but they do wonderfully in person. Pitch editing is so ubiquitous today that you just can't put something out there without it. I've seen bands with better live vocals, but not many. What really comes through in person is the relentlessly complex arrangements, in many of which the vocals fit it rhythmically and melodically as pieces in the ensemble rather than singing a separate vocal melody over the top. It's difficult stuff that Kanami (lead guitar) writes for the band. The others make maximum creative contributions. The bass player and drummer write their own parts in line with Kanami's demo and the rhythm guitar/second vocal writes the lyrics. The lead vocal reviews everything and works with the second vocal on the vocal arrangements. Kanami is a genius but these are really Band Maid songs. To hear them extend theirselves, react to Black Hole (on a 2 song video with Manners) and From Now On. For more different sounds, check out Blooming and Influencer. All their live recordings are great too, even with the modest license taken in post.

Welcome aboard the Band-Maid train !! Some people get thrown off by the lack of English lyrics. To me, that's just shallow. Music is meant to be listened to in the language it was written in. I'm so in love with Sai chans tone & the bands musicality.....she could be singing about anything, it wouldn't matter to me 😮 just saying ! 😏❤️🎙🎸🥁😎🤘

Awesome! Thanks for sharing your experience and insight! I really appreciate it. It’s great to know there are new bands out there that are able to garner such a supportive audience. I’ll definitely take your recommendations into consideration 🤘
It’s nice to have subtitles, but they’ll always fail you for Band-Maid. Their lyrics are a little poetic and packed with references and allusions and stuff. I thought the same thing about it talking about characters, but Sai and Kyo is a reference to a chat they had with their audience at a show one time, where the lead vocalist (blue rose) was making fun of the rhythm guitarist/vocalist (red rose) for saying “sai and kou” instead of saikou (the best). So this is “sai and kyo” instead of saikyo (the strongest). So it’s just a little in-joke for the band and super fans that know about that particular show. I suggest ignoring the lyrics completely until you’re ready to do a deep dive. Shura is a reference to a deity, and Kiba is a reference to a title given to a certain faction’s strongest fighter, generally regarded as the strongest fighter overall, in the anime this song was commissioned for. That all said, the story of the song is about you, doing your best, and making your mark on the world. It’s the basic message of a lot of their songs. Nice reaction, by the way. Caught a lot of stuff in one listen. It’s a fun exercise to just count all of the drum fills they packed into those three minutes.
This is a nice (relative) start for a reacter. There's something there that I think will be interesting to watch develop over time. Some suggestions, take them for what you paid for them. First, when you pause to talk about the music/video, tap the left arrow key 1-2 times to back up 5-10s. Often in the time between "Oh, I have something to say" and the actual pause, you miss what may be interesting bits of the tune. If you back up a bit, it gives you and your viewers a moment to re-focus back on the music. Secondly, you spoke about not catching parts of the lyrics, though this applies to any part of the music. Don't be shy about listening to things more than once. You're going to listen to it at least one more time during the edit, so if something comes to you then, drop in little text notes. If you feel it's important enough, film a little cut-in. Each video is not a statue, carved in stone, once you stop filming. It's an evolving beast which can be plussed up in editing. "First time reaction" is a big draw, but it's more about your physical reaction in the moment. Quality analysis can come at any step of the process. The goal should be the best possible finished product, not solely the freshest possible take. Good luck with your channel, and thank you for checking out BAND-MAID!
Are they the Beatles of this generation? Hear me out first. Lead Bass playing during compositions, check. Synchronized spot on drumming with constant change ups during fills, check. Magical harmonies singing meaningful lyrics, check. Short memorable killer rifts and solos in songs that move you, check. Trend setting, breaking through barriers, fans know every member by name, feels like family and most importantly, have their own cartoons. check
I've got some bad news for you. You have a case of yellow fever now, which is incurable, but it's treatable by listening to band made daily. Welcome to the ride, maidiac

As for live shows, when they tour in Japan, they have a fairly elaborate stage show: HUGE video screen behind the stage, lasers and lightning, smoke, but no pyro (at least not recently). Overseas, their shows are stripped back: big banner behind them and house lighting.
Tip of a large iceberg😂😂😂
Great reaction and commentary. Looking forward to seeing more Band-Maid reactions going forward.
Thank you, I really appreciate it. More to come!
Great band. Live shows are awesome. Can’t wait until they make it back to the US again.
Welcome to Band Maid 🎉
This is an exceptionally diverse group of musicians.
Band Maid sometimes have extended intros (“Play”) or extended solos for everyone (“Domination”)
I saw them live earlier this year. It was one of the most fun, exciting and entertaining concert experiences I’ve ever had. And my first concert was KISS in 1978.
Very good guess! This song is written for the anime "Kengan Ashura", thus the lyrics reflect the story of the anime.😁
If you are interested in checking out their live performance without post-production, I suggest their live performance of the song "HATE?" at Lollapalooza 2023: ruclips.net/video/OvtKRZ9xt3E/видео.html
Have fun!😉
Welcome to the Maidiacs, James.
The song I always recommend to Band-Maid padawans are Domination Official Live.
Search "Shambles drums only" for Akane's drums extracted. Then never again diss her ability. Not just the pure skill and composition but the incredibly subtlety.
Hej James, welcome to the world of Band-Maid.
Glad to have you with us on this journey !
Welcome to Band-maid rabbit hole. Waiting for your next BM reactions.. ,🤟
Thank you, more coming soon!
Check out their song Puzzle live this group is amazing
Welcome to Band Maid's rabbit hole. It's a journey of joy and world class music.
Thank you! I’m looking forward to it 🤘
Congratulations on discovery the best band in the world today. Enjoy the ride! 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂🕊
Band maid is a super live band
If you get into them, you will definitely notice the bassist, MISA.
Welcome to the Band Maid wormhole! Your universe just got better 🎉
Thank you! Definitely looking forward to checking out mor BAND MAID
Great! I really recommend the studio MV of 'Dice' before live versions...gorgeous guitar arrangements. My most-played Maid Rock banger 👌💪👊🤘🤘🤘
Thank you!
Many people are suggesting the live performance video of Dice/Hate, so it’s good to know that I should check out the MV for Dice first 🤘
Non-fiction Days, Warning! have something in common with shambles. What is it?
trivia time everyone!
Those flames were real. You can see the making of the video on their website.

(Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well)
So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing.
Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning"
On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"...
The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited)
This became the seminal moment of Band Maid.
Sound like the perfect bandmate relationship!
Thank you for sharing 🤘

Well if you want see they potential live check this year Lollapalooza festival show Band Maid Hate 😉
Awesome, I’ll definitely keep that one in mind!
🤘🤘🤘
😁
Kiba means teeth (show your teeth) shura is kind of spirit
This is meant for an anime
Are they the Beatles of this generation? Hear me out first.
Lead Bass playing during compositions, check. Synchronized spot on drumming with constant change ups during fills, check. Magical harmonies singing meaningful lyrics, check. Short memorable killer rifts and solos in songs that move you, check. Trend setting, breaking through barriers, fans know every member by name, feels like family and most importantly, have their own cartoons. check
Interesting…. You make a compelling argument but I’ll have to dive deeper into the Band-Maid catalog before I can agree or disagree!
I've got some bad news for you. You have a case of yellow fever now, which is incurable, but it's treatable by listening to band made daily. Welcome to the ride, maidiac
500 me 😊
